@@MakingBigMoves bro who does you cut. I am in fort tottem
Very good overview. I live in VA, but I have lived in MD also. Don't bother coming to this area unless you make over 150k. It is extremely expensive. A small condominium in DC or northern VA will be over 500k. Single family home will easily be 800k+ Md is slightly cheaper than DC and VA for the same type of dwelling. A home in Silver Spring, MD will cost you 600k+, and the same home will be 800k in Springfield, VA. Alexandria, VA or Arlington, VA or Bethesda, MD or Potomac, MD you will not touch a single family home under about 1 million. You can even spend 10 million plus in Bethesda, Potomac, Chevy Chase or Annapolis, MD. Similary, you can spend this in McLean, VA or parts of Arlington, VA. Prince Georges County, MD is cheaper, but more crime and schools are not as good.
You are one hell of a salesman! I just started thinking about moving to DC recently. So I’m on my “living in DC” binge watch mode on YT. I think I’ve had enough of Nashville. DC is def on my list! Thanks for the insight! You got a new subbie!
Thanks for the Sub and view!! Yeah, i just try to be honest. And honestly speaking, DC is like that. It really is. I’m sure you’ll love it if you make it this way.
What did you decide? 😊 Did you decide to move to D.C.?
Don’t forget upper Montgomery County (Gaithersburg, Germantown, Clarksburg). We have low crime here (I live in Germantown). Bethesda, Chevy Chase and the like are not very diverse. They are wealthy, either White or Jewish. But they do have some great restaurants. Also Rockville. This is where to County Seat is located. Great restaurants and shopping. Gaithersburg has the Crown and the Rio. Very good restaurants, shopping. Upper Montgomery County can be affordable. Very diverse! Just had a Salsa Dance event in a local park that was free. It’s a great place to raise a family and most of the schools in MoCo are excellent. I’ve been here since 1969. I love living here. Moved here from DC.
Hairline mad crispy
Don’t forget Prince Georges County… the suburbs of DC ( Top Richest Black county in the US) You can get a suburban lifestyle and city feel with DC 35 minutes away and Baltimore 45 minutes 🙌🏽 oh, VA not far as well.
Make sure your spot is in upper Marlboro, Baltimore Ave Hyattsville. Bowie, laurel Lanham. Pretty much just stay out of any cities that's just a hop and a skip from dc....even though Baltimore Ave does turn into Rhode island NE, still better off
Not Capital Heights, District Heights, Suitland, and other ghetto areas in PG County. I will take Montgomery County over PG any day.
I'm from New York and have been visiting the area for about 3 years now. I plan to relocate to Silver Spring MD eventually. I agree with your list. I just wanted to add my personal pros. The first one is the cab drivers. They're always been able to navigate through the traffic. Also I've learned about the area because of them. Then I like the ability to walk to the store without having a bunch of people on the side walk. And the people are a little more friendlier than New York.
I agree!!! It’s for sure not as packed as NY. I think the people are a little nicer too. It’s a beast in NY!
Your forgot that (almost) every bm in DMV area is DL. To say the very least..since I’m choosing to be respectful here

Thank you much for watching! I have a 3 year update video releasing soon. My perspective on a few things have shifted!
Love your videos! Watched this one and Austin review. Would love if you could do an LA and Dallas one taha I’m deciding where to move ;)
The timing of this video is CRAZY. I was literally watching your older videos on DC and using LinkedIn correctly this morning, and was looking at apartments in the DMV area last night!
That’s crazy!!! I’m happy i got cha. If you got any questions let me know!
i was looking at apartments last night too!
Did you ever decide to move here?
New subscriber. Enjoy your videos. Very informative.
Thanks for the drop. Currently in Atlanta, considering moving to DC proper.
Moving to bmore, definitely happy to have dc close-W VID❗️
Thanks so much for this video. I’m considering moving to Virginia…I’d love to know more about it.
I agree the traffic is wild around here. Alit of side by side driving
Yes the food is deeeeelicous your absolutely right about that ❤
I hope you stick around here for a while, maybe even for the long run. Growing up here, and moving around this whole area really has a lot to offer for you and even for kids too.
Super accurate video haha
Very convincing!!
Great video the only misconception is that we definitely have beaches here.
Your hitting it on the Nail Dmv is extremely diverse and beautiful ❤
For some reason, the greater Seattle area is never mentioned in terms of cost of living. If you can survive here, you can for sure survive in DC
I agree. Also nowadays everywhere is getting to be like that.
Seattle is where it's at. Been living in Seatown for a decade and don't see myself moving. But unfortunately black folks just don't mention Seattle for some reason. Maybe they're scared of the "constant cloud coverage" 6 months out the year or the ever looming danger of Mt Rainier blowing up...either way PNW is awesome.
Ik a lightskin girl I used to go to school with here in Northern Virginia that move to Seattle and used to be like ahhh you’re going to where Icarly lives all the white folks. But I seen some videos from CharlieBo313 yeah there’s a lot of blk folks in Seattle.
Love this video! Thank you for the information :)
Thank you much for watching! I have a 3 year update video releasing soon. My perspective on a few things have shifted!
@MakingBigMoves There's a high chance I will be moving to DC for work (which is crazy because it's never been on my top places to live). There's also not much DC content on RUclips so I'm happy to have discovered your videos. Can't wait for an update :) Thanks again!
Thank you hun I'm from Philly too 😊
I hope not in the Kensington and West Oak Lane areas.

Awesome video, my Brother!!

Still in the DMV, but living on the Maryland side now in Howard County. Maryland is more of my culture and cup of tea, lol.
Great for you to relocate here, you will really love the area for sure.
Love your videos interesting and informative # native southern californian lady
I love the DMV....
The shape up is tough. But yea the crowding. The dc Baltimore metroplex is up to number 3 population wise in the country now just passing Chicago…that a lot of heads waking around
SuperFANTASTIC 🔥🔥🔥…
Another pro is the amount of entertainment available. And the amount of nature and activities.
I’m glad you like it I was there on a travel
Assignment in la plata md. I’m in austin now I cannot wait to LEAVE
I hear you! Don’t ever want to see another tarantula, scorpion, roach or rattlesnake again in my life.
Born and raised in southeast. I live on Columbus, OH and the population density is crazy. Columbus has a population of over 900,000 in the city proper, but is spread out. Dc is smaller but definitely doesn't feel like it.
This video was such a pleasure to watch! Thank you for all the information and the honesty on the cons. Really making my decision feel so much more special. Despite the price I fell in love with the DMV and I’m from the Tri-State. So much nature and culture!
Thank you for watching! I really appreciate it. Honestly it’s hard to dislike this area. The prices and the drivers are my biggest pain but the pros offset it by far.
Your videos are convincing me. Thinking about moving from Cali!
I promise you'll love it! It's really a great place to live.
Did you ever move? 😊
Please let the people know about PG County as well.
Find roommates and split mortgage equally. Can payoff in 2 years or so. Each person can have their own bed bath suite. Then will only owe like 3k yearly for taxes utilities yearly per person, 3k for groceries and 600 yearly for bus pass
I would add so many colleges also.
I disagree on somethings, but still appreciated your video.
I work in cyber security and I have family in the DMV. I’m really thinking about moving. I’m also super paranoid. 🙃 Do you have any tips for a paranoid person like me?
Been wondering how Austin vs DMV gonna stack up.

I’ll be honest I did research and I will be traveling out that way ! Just curious how is cultivating friendships out there ? I just have a sense of women like me trying to up one each other or have a superior attitude
What's best for families with small children, not as crowded but safe
It’s crazy because natives hate the public transportation and I’m like y’all don’t know how good y’all have it. It’s really lovely. They are spoiled. I haven’t been driving as much due to gas and I’m saving so much money getting to work and other areas 😂
Yes, we natives hate the public transportation because we have family members who work for the system who will tell you try to avoid the transit systems because of it's lack of safety. Employee's driving the trains while talking on the cell phone at the same time. Nope, I don't trust it.
I'm from NYC and live in Silver Spring, MD, so there's nothing about the DMV that feels "packed" or crowded. I think D.C. is not too bad to navigate and parking can be doable depending on the part of D.C. you're in. I like NYC over DC, but I like the D.C. suburbs (Rockville, Bethesda, Arlington, etc.) more than the NY suburbs (Long Island, Westchester, etc.). Public transportation in D.C. is okay, but it was much better prior to COVID.
I respect that. I would like NYC over DC to. It’s just the price, congestion. But NYC is one of the best cities in the world. Dc is highly underrated
Certain areas in Maryland are INDEED congested with traffic and people. Langley Park, SS, parts of DC.
😂😂😂😂 then you haven’t been to northern Virginia because the dc metro on the Va side aka Nova is part of the reason the Dc metro is so big and crowded. Nova starts from Arlington/Alexandria goes all the way down to Spotsylvania County which borders Central Va 804 Richmond area. Fairfax county being the largest county in the Dc area at 1M and then Prince William county being Half a Million. It’s most definitely crowded here may not be as crowded as NYC but it is definitely crowded. Like Nova itself is crowded compared to the rest of Virginia that’s why a lot of folks from nova are moving to Richmond.
The DMV is the best metropolitan area on Earth. Let’s be real. And it is the best geographical metro area in the states when you factor in its possibility for potential growth. With the metro continuing to expand in every direction, moco being a suburban paradise, pg county future development, the revitalization of Baltimore, skyscrapers redevelopment coming to SE Washington, and with northern VA rapid sprawling growth, the next 50 years here in the DMV area is looking very promising. Don’t be surprised if the DMV-Baltimore area population surpasses LA and NYC in the future. DC is a human-scaled city that you have to see to believe. DC is really just the Manhattan of the area. You have to explore all of it. I ride around seeing tourists taking pictures in aww 😮. This is a very slept on area that people visit and never want to leave. And Tysons in northern VA looks like baby Atlanta now (one of the many dmv suburban cities). I love it here 😢
@@bnb8277 I've lived all across the country and DC and NYC are close to my least favorite metros but obviously plenty of people disagree with me.
I’m moving to northern VA from Cleveland, OH so I’m used to the potholes and cold weather lol. It’s actually warmer over there and Cle since the lake is here. I’m just not looking forward to paying a mortgage prices for a 1 bdrm apartment 😩
I moved from Akron and I completely understand what you're saying.
Cleveland sucks
@@aiddeen21 I’m in CLE are you in DC or surrounding area?
Uj! What a handsome guy! Well weather is not a issue for me cause i'm writing from scandinavia where i live in 17 years now, but i'm from Wrocław where temp was sometimes from -20 to +30C degrees. I'm going to visit MD this fall. Could You pleas mention some cool destinations there?
Great Falls, Potomac River, all of the monuments. It's too many to name!
I don't know why some want to combine Washington, D.C. with the states of Maryland and Virginia. I live, vote, and pay taxes in Washington, D.C., not in the state of Maryland and Virginia. The weather in Washington, D.C. is similar to Philadelphia. I constantly speak with my aunt living in West Oak Lane in Philly. The weather in Philly is basically the same as in Washington, DC. I haven't been over in the state of Virginia in 4 years and I was traveling to North Carolina for a funeral. I hate Virginia and I never cross the bridge to go over into Virginia. I live in upper Northwest D.C. close to Silver Spring, Maryland in Montgomery County and I travel there regularly and parts of Prince Georges County, Maryland. Baltimore, Maryland is it's own city in the state of Maryland plagued with crime. As a Morgan State University Alum, I rarely visit Baltimore due to violent crime. In reference to diversity, yeah, we have lots of illegal aliens from El Salvador and other Central American countries in the D.C. metro area. How dare you say, you think DC is the downtown area of DMV. Washington, D.C. is a city of it's own and I am sure Mayor Muriel Bowser and the 13 member D.C. City Council would disagree with you calling D.C. as the downtown area of the DMV. Boy, bye. Please go back up to Philly and report on all the shootings, killings, and other violence occurring in the City of Brotherly Love. Native Washingtonian
Yeah if folks want to go to the beach the closet beach near the dmv area is ocean city but it’s not all that for real. Only other beach “close” to the dmv not really close but not that far away is Virginia Beach which is a lot better than ocean city only problem is it’s 4hrs SE from the dmv area.
I said the same thing im from Richmond va but Dc is our downtown lol 😆 ive been coming to dc for years for shopping and restaurants and entertainment my second home .
lol 2 hours to go downtown! That’s brutal! I need to explore a little more of Richmond
@MakingBigMoves well it's not 2 hrs by high speed rail it's like an hr or when there light traffic it's like an hour an a half lol 😆
Thanks for this video, Rob I'm looking into this area heavy for graduate school. I do have a car and have heard the taxes for a car is expensive, in DC any thoughts on that.? Also, it seems on my research that DC is a little less than the surrounding areas. between $1800-$2100 for a 1bed/1 bath apt. Any follow-ups would be helpful, thanks Rob.
That’s shocking you saw that! Typically DC is more expensive than the surrounding areas. Especially when you incorporate parking garage fees that are hidden in small tiny letters that say $250 a month. As far as taxes on your vehicle, it depends on the vehicle but i drive a Infiniti and my VA taxes aren’t that much. I think it’s a larger percentage in DC though.
@@MakingBigMoves Thanks bro. So, you think I should jump on the lower cost DC apt. It's in Northwest DC. The other areas like silver spring I was looking at, was easily $300-$400 more. Also, I've lived in more suburb style housing my whole life and I'm looking for more action. Lastly, would you say DC is younger than surrounding areas, or older.?
@@MrDetroit15 dC is definitely younger and more lit. If you looking to be surrounded by things to do and cool people. DC is solid. North west is a good area to. Or Navy Yard.
As far as I’m aware, and will be moving to DC in 3 weeks, MD & DC do not tax personal vehicles, only business vehicles. VA taxes personal vehicles though
@Vera Gordienko Well, after your car gets stolen in DC, you will not have to worry about that. Or worse, gets towed by the police for parking on the wrong side of street or not having a parking sticker..
It took me an extra hour to drive home after a show at the Kennedy Center just because the White House Correspondents Dinner let out 😅
The prices are too high for food, rent, clothing and the grocery store and the metro sucks!
Hmmm I’m tryna decide between Maryland and Georgia… based off price definitely Georgia but idk 🤷🏾♂️
Yeah Georgia you get a bang for your buck. Here you’ll get your moneys worth if you are a person who likes to be outside. Or don’t like to drive, etc. it has its trade offs
Spot on for everything especially scenery& water (my reason for move), except the food. Other than local crabs the food scene sucks. Lacks flavor, ethnic variety. I’ve like ed in 4 states, mostly NYC. Even preferred Charlotte NC restaurants to DMV. May have to relocate for better food & weather (humid, cool)
Aye Philly!

I hate to be that guy, but Chicago has the second largest transit in the US. The CTA covers almost twice as many miles and has more stations than the WMATA.
The WMATA is the second busiest transit system.
Edit: In your map I just noticed it included DC and Baltimore. Even with those two combined I believe the Chicago CTA and Metra combined is still the second largest.
Nah, your not that guy. You want facts presented. I understand. I googled it before i said it and all sources was saying DC from my search. Rider wise and square miles wise. @@MakingBigMoves I been in Atlanta since 2005. I love Atlanta, but it’s going downhill. I believe a big draw to Atlanta was the cheap cost of living. Now Atlanta don’t have that edge. There are hood apartments that had roaches (water bugs) and was going for $550 back in 2008, now they put lipstick on a pig and want $1,400. Atlanta’s rent is on par with Tampa and Miami and to me it’s not with it. Lenox (upscale) mall installed metal detectors and closes at 8 now due to crime. Atlanta changed a lot.

Your comment about Miami was funny! You haven't been down here lately. The prices are CRAZY down here. Restaurants are expensive, rents and real state are unaforable for locals, traffic insane and everyone is rude and unapologetic. Salaries are miniscule as well a job culture. Texas vs Dmv?
That'll be released on December 4th, 2023!
@MakingBigMoves I like Texas but it is not for me.
I'm a Marylander and prefer Virginia. I like some things about our state but it is overpriced, small, lacks broader interest, and drivers here are terrible. I used to think VA drivers are worse, but all the highway accidents are usually on the Maryland side and cause most of the hold ups during commute, and Maryland's road systems are worse like having 'metered ramps' on exits now.
Virginia has more diverse career opportunities and better jobs in IT, science, labor, and medicine, while Maryland is full if so much retail. Hogan is a great governor, Montgomery County is our state's wealthy pride, and the further east you go out in the Chesapeake is wonderful, but there's a lot more I would like to see happening with this state.
If you want to be honest anyone who lives on the east coast from Maine to Florida really can’t drive. I-95 has been ranked the worst highway to drive on so it’s not just a Maryland or Virginia thing
@@JabrenHarris98 Then I guess that explains it.
Virginia is southern Maryland is northern
Crowded 4 sure smfh
I hate the traffic, rude ass people and unfriendly people

You are soooooo cute❤
Why thank you! 😊
@MakingBigMoves You must visit Richmond one of the most underrated cities in America it's has some similarities of Dc parts that remind me of Dc the fan district, Scott's Addition, shokoe bottom, and the museum district .
I love the DMV, but you will pay for the privilege. It is very expensive here, and the taxes are off the hook. Crime has risen all over, but DC proper has gotten ridiculous. I would hesitate to move a family there unless you could afford the "safer" areas. Be prepared to drop at least $750K for a house in DC in those areas.
bruh my family bought a lil place for near 500k 20 years ago in annandale va and there's still shootings every couple months, robberies reported regularly, and gang activity down the street. it's real confined to specific parts, but with all the money spent here you'd think it would be less of an issue. i completely vouch for mentioning the rise in crime. sometimes it doesn't add up, but it's real albeit not that bad unless you're living in a spot everyone knows to avoid
@scubasteve6175 Agreed. The money people spend to live in certain areas in spite of the crime rate is ridiculous.
As a DMV native I'll just flat out say don't come here it's packed as hell already and getting worse. People can't afford rent or buy a house here( NoVa and MD) and people who are coming here with high salaries aren't making it any better.
😂🤦🏿♂️ bro. Literally every city I’ve lived in the natives have said those same things. Be more welcoming. Blame the companies for bringing jobs here. Stop hating on the people who move to better their situation.
Is Fairfax Va a good place to live? I heard VA can be pretty racist.
It seems like racism is everywhere now sad.
It can be. But if u think about it, it's the very first colony and where slavery started.
Fairfax cool. It's pretty close to DC. It's not that racist. VA gets racist around Charlottesville. Like a hour and a half out.
DON'T MOVE TO BALTIMORE!!!
This bama can't handle DC
Lol I'm from here n honestly I wanna leave cuz of ppl like u. Like dc don't always have to mean hood shit. Like think bigger bruh damn.
