Thank you my brutha, I certainly appreciate you making this video. As I’m currently in the process of moving to DC. And, thankfully all the points you touched I’ve been aware of and some not as versed on. Yet, it has helped me secured my decision! 👊🏾😁💯
Again with the drivers. be assertive when you drive. some drivers get pretty hesitant with traffic, people aren’t gonna wait. know where you’re going, use a turn signals and use the merge lane to speed up/ slow down appropriately. be good at judging the conditions of traffic and adjust them. cooperate with traffic and traffic will cooperate with you. it’s all about judgment. other drivers can sense your hesitation, and they will bully you for it. lived here my whole life, i’ve never had a problem merging. you need to be assertive, not aggressive, and do not hesitate especially when merging on the highways. I’ve had to almost stop for some drivers trying to get it together to make a simple merge. people got things to do, they won’t wait cause mostly likely they running late. fyi in that situation some people will flash their hi beams, that means “come on, go ahead”. people share the road just fine and they are pretty cooperative if you show that you are serious. if one person spots your hesitation, they all will spot that. don’t worry about the government, this area has tons on security agencies on all levels, some people have never heard of. that’s also part of the reason traffic moves the way it does. Dc is pretty safe from international interference.
I am from Baltimore. The problem with DC is there are very few DMV natives so they bring their bad driving habits with them. Just because you have MD, DC, and VA license does not make them drivers of that jurisdiction.
Stop moving here our food sucks food with less taste. People are bitter due to high rents.. everyone is fake rich.... the real rich stay in potomac,MD and middleburg,va...
I grew up in the DMV, lived in Ny 5 years, Atlanta 10 yrs, Calabasas ca 5 yrs My heart is still yearning for the DMV I love that he said it’s the most underrated place in America, this is 100%

Put Egypt there cousin
I completely agree with your positive view of the area. My favorite aspect is the blend of experiences: you have DC proper alongside the vibrant, developed cities in Maryland and Virginia to explore. When you think of DC, it’s only natural to think of the entire DMV region. Personally, I cross state and city lines almost daily! It’s also great that you don’t have to venture far from DC to find a quieter, more reclusive atmosphere.
Dont forget about Frederick, MD - hidden gem
Awesome. God bless you and your family!
He aint lie. Not one lie told. But who in tf would rather live in DC rather than the suburbs. Shit..smh Must be crazy.
The night life is horrible in DC. Everything starts at 6 pm and close at 9 pm and people only party only on the weekends. Its so dead during the week and you will constantly find your self driving +30 minutes for a venue.
Colombia, ❤ thnak you for coming
Na... you deadass made me shed a tear with this one. This morning I came across your video on the pro's and con's of DC, while doing some research. Recently I found myself in a situation where I have to leave NYC and given that I have been here all my life (29 years to be exact, still living in my childhood apt lmfao) I've been so hesitant on making the move until i came across this video right here, you don't even know the level of conformation you just gave me. I have been in the social work field for 8 years now and i've managed to move my way up in my career without a degree, not to discredit anyone who went to school for one but given that I have made it this far without one, I always felt like it was possible for me to keep excelling without a degree and hearing your journey set that in stone for me. Apart from your inspirational story of your up bringing and leaving NC, there was so much similarity in hearing your story I felt like watching this I was exactly where I needed to be. I also lost my mom at a young age. I also had to navigate my world all on my own while taking care of a young sibling and leaning on my 2 older ones (it was 4 of us as well) and you being a scorpio too?? Lmaoooo I was like na hes the boy version of me! None the less I apologize for this long as comment but I just needed to let this one out and let you know that if there was ever a moment in time where you felt like quitting this or not doing it anymore, I say push those feelings aside and keep doing your thing on here. Your content has defintely done something positive for me, especially at this stage in my life. Idk you (yet) but I am sending you so much love and light your way and you MOST DEFFFFF got a subscriber in me lmfaooo.
And reading this comment made me almost shed a tear. You don’t understand how much it means to see something like this. Hearing your story also! I know my story isn’t the worst, it’s just mine, and so many people go through tough times. Thank you for the motivation, I’m trying to be more active on here and have a bunch of content scheduled to release soon. You should follow me on my other socials @_BlackRob_ or @MakingBigMoves. I’m more active there and still make content.
Anyone that disses DC is mad because they could not make it in DC all those upper middle class blacks look at this Jealous bamma 😊
lol i didn’t diss DC if that’s what you are implying. Overall, i gave a rating of the area at the end of the video. I just gave my honest opinion on the pros and cons
Could you share your experience when you lived in New York? How are things in Philly cheese steak country . Love your channel .. Peace
Ca-Kay-Das is INSANE LMAO! It's Si-Cay-Duh hahaha. And they do the same phenomenon many places around the U.S. lol.
🎉u killed it!
The most thing about this area that i don't like is the prices. Northern VA is expensive af for no reason.
The MD Merge- Cross 4 lanes of traffic without using your turn signal cutting everyone off to get off at your exit
I'm sold!!! I'm moving!! See you soon!
I’m expected to move there March due to work, but I didn’t realize how bad crime was. Even the luxury apartments say the wheels were stolen or break ins and most of these luxury apartments have reviews (mostly negative) and say they have roaches and mice! I canntttt! Is this true… or you think it’s just people being petty? I’m looking into Alexandria, Arlington, Waldorf, Kingstowne. Any advice anyone who is CURRENTLY still in the area??
Mau-ra-tus 😂 dude come on. Do your homework and get it right.
lol i did, just couldn’t pronounce it 🤣 thanks for watching though 😊
Dude…I’ll give you 1-5 but the (6) driving dude? Comon….
I grew up in the MD suburbs and moved to NYC in my 20s. I'm now in my 50s and have decided to move to DC. NYC is great and all... but it has changed and I have changed too. And being a NYer as an old person is a very different experience than being a NYer as a young person. It seems to me that I am less and less inclined to experience the city and have basically just relegated myself to merely existing here but with all of the inconveniences and high costs of being in Manhattan. I work remotely and am a few years from retirement so I could theoretically live anywhere. But I chose DC because a) It is close enough to NYC that I could back at any time without too much effort. b) World-class museums and cultural institutions, most of which are free. c) It's a beautiful, clean city with access to 2 (or 3 if you count BWI) international airports. d) It's cheaper than NYC overall. I live in a tiny co-op apartment in NYC now but am in contract to buy a townhouse in Georgetown and I can't wait to finally have closets and rooms and a back yard. DC has also changed a lot since I was a kid, but in many ways I think it has changed for the better. I look forward to long walks on the National Mall and biking through Rock Creek Park and the C&O Canal. The weather in DC sucks but it also sucks in NYC as well.
Grew up outside DC...pros and cons spot on.
you sound like you smoked enough weed to immobilize a herd of elephants
DC traffic is bad because we don't have as many left turn lanes as we need. Basically, most ppl will drive in the right lane because if you drive in the left lane, you'll end up stuck behind someone turning left. Also, during rush hour, on major streets, there's no parking along the curb lane. However, a car will inevitably be stopped there. So, again, you're stuck unless you just drive in the right lane (where everyone who got stuck will try to get into). Plus, some lanes turn into turn-only lanes with little warning. Also, you have to be comfortable with parallel parking, yes, traffic circles, and leaving at least 15 minutes cushion for driving around to find a parking spot.
As a semi-native and current resident of DC, I would say a major con (that perhaps proves cons outweigh the pros) is that a lot of people leave. I have several friend who I've watched come and go. DC has some enclaves of generational natives, but unlike many cities (like my native New Orleans), many if not most ppl come here for a job and leave for another job or to start a family. DC can be quite lonely, especially once your peers start getting married.
So where would you go to live. What’s better than Austin???????
I want to move to D.c
This video really helped me with my decision so Washington DC I will see you soon. Thank you sir for making this video
Same here...
how would you compare it to Atlanta? would love to see a video of dc vs atlanta
Word. Nailed it. Plus, you said honest things that nobody here would ever say They are stuck in the koolaid. Lack of diversity. So called "nightlife" sucks. Practically zero hip hop clubs per your example. Public transportation, yep true. And no public transportation west of 1/Mopac. The lack of diversity and culture, It DOES seep into everything and I'm commenting here as a person who grew up in California and lived most of my life in the Bay Area, for other people who expect there to be things like good radio stations, or places to dance to dance music, , old school, r&b, hip hop, low riders, they are not here, as well as alot of other things you are accustomed to like people being used to diversity. I know your video is 3 years old but still wanted to add another perspective and testimonial. Austin has had alot of growth and change over the past 10 years and has less of an identity now than ever. All people have a personality of some kind right? Well Austin has people so it must have a personality but does it?
2023 crimes is nothing compared to 90s crime in DC
No where to run just have fun Austin
No where to run just have fun Austin
Homeless every where
You remind me of my friend Robert in High School. Robert is a math wizard we studied AP Calculus through high school. God bless you Robert.
Life long DMV (MD). Proud Maryland driver. I think you got it almost all right. Thank you!
I’m planning leave mass to dc or Maryland
None of these cons got ish on LA cons. I loved DC when i visited and i plan to visit a few more times in 2025 to confirm whether i can live there. Thanks for the video. Every city has their things.
He’s so wrong about the food. DC has a lot of really great restaurants and food. Take a look at the Michelin food guide. It’s just not accessible to everyone. You gotta pay to eat well in DC and have reservations.
i moved to SE DC district 8 and I've already had a lady threaten me for trying to warn her about a parking notice posted on our apartment, been spat at on the train because i look white, been accused of being an undercover cop for asking a police a question. Witnessed a domestic assault and had to give a neighbor my phone to call the police after her lover assaulted her and i have only been here for a little over a month.
I think another problem in austin is a very small black population. And they are mostly on the east side. Its very segregated.
I'm from PG and all 3 areas have bad drivers. DC - wreckless MD - careless VA - clueless Take your pick you'll be pissed at least twice a day driving around someone 😂
I grew up in Washington. I can confirm this list is accurate.
We were in London last Spring and loved it. Great transportation and also a very walkable city.
DC also feels bit culture-less, a bit sterile compared to other cities. Maybe that’s because of the large federal government presence, the tourists and the transitory nature of a large part of the population.
