    The cav problem is one of the reason I run Xorberx’s Legacy mod with deadly horse charges. It calculates the weight and speed of your horse against the trampled troop and the unit’s armor. It makes cavalry dangerous again but not to the point of over-correcting RBM does.

    I think cavalry in this game should have a knockdown effect when they are charging into the footman and deal a lot of damage, especially when the cav charges into the back of them. It's like being hit by a full speed motorcycle in real life.

    yeah i find the best way to use cav is just dismounting them and using them as infantry a lot of the time their horses are just increased party speed and tools to get them in and out of position quicker. Their higher tier equipment since a lot of them are noble units actually makes them more effective on foot despite their lowish athletics. shield and shock (thank you) is also a favorite due to their horses being pretty good meat shields.

      Faris and Druznik champions are among my favorite to use on foot due to their 90 and 100 athletics but cataphracts and banner knights are really good on foot too. Horse raiders are an honorable mention since they’re the only sturgian skirmisher

      Oh and also dealing with horse archers (khuzait mainly) I use my cav to come in behind them before they fallback and smash in and take a few kills since they’re one of the top enemies i have in my aserai campaign. I hold husn fulq and razif so they’re right on my border.

Even when the enemy is fighting defensively it's so easy to flank because they have one big traunch of units once you take out the Cav.

    My method to correct cavalry is simple, I went into the files and started fiddling, added a flat 20+ to the charge of all horses, gave them the good lances, played with the stats a bit, changed some equipment then *booooom,* cav is truly devastating when used correctly . I don’t know why more people don’t do this it is not remotely difficult.
    I noticed that, even in unedited gameplay, charge cav do extremely well if the enemy is in loose formation or moving, especially moving towards you. Once they stop in a firm formation, they really have issues, which I’m fine with but it must be combined with a robust morale shock system. Bannerlord simply doesn’t simulate morale shocks well, and morale shocks were *essential* to heavy cav tactics.

    • @HeadlessHorsemanProductions
      @HeadlessHorsemanProductions  5 месяцев назад

      Yep, you've nailed it. Cavalry was more intimidation than actually annihilation. Same thing with early firearms. You speak of editing the files easily, well pretend I'm a golden retriever or little child and explain in simple terms how to 'add some charge' damage to my cav. Does this require coding skill? it’s a vanilla roguery perk that makes bandits always offer to join, so you are able to quickly recruit hundreds of light cavalry and light horse archers for free.
      it feels like it should be an overpowered strategy, but I am facing a pretty difficult time getting good use out of them. I figured with your experience and the weak army series, you’d have the know how to best extract value from this recruiting technique on the campaign.
      Maybe it would be open up different tactics, because these units are kind of unique by virtue of being free and easily replaceable at scale.

    Charges have become more powerful in vanilla over time, but spear cav in particular (as you have exhaustively demonstrated) are just terrible offensively. Add to this how terrible spears are generally (the speed requirements for effective spear thrusts are stupid) and there's a lot of fixing to do. More powerful cav would require more anti-cav abilities from troops (like stakes, or even just proper spear bracing) and suddenly you have a long list of fixes and additions to add to the long list of fixes and additions this bare-bones game desperately needs.
    The devs just expect modders to fix the game at this point. Let's be real: there will never be a satisfactory finished version of vanilla Bannerlord.

    While it is true that cavalry is very weak compared to irl, it needs to be weaker because its also much easier to get than irl. Very true - but given their serious handicap in crowded battlefields or choke points AND their weakness is siege, it still doesn't make sense for them to be butchered in the open by archers. I'd love to see them do double or triple 'charge damage' against archers, or something to that effect, but obviously you're right - and RBM shows how when they are the same PRICE as infantry and archers but totally crush them in battle, most RBM battles start to favor heavily the side with the most cavalry.
