      I'm sorry David, I'm still having trouble finding factory parts for mine. However, you may be able to find a suitable replacement bearing, acme rod, nuts, and cable on this website www.mcmaster.com/

    What it the thickness of the bearing plate you made? 1/4”? A previous owner removed the one from mine and my ratchet pawl keeps loosing contact.

      Yes, that plate is 1/4". It may be a bit overkill, but I only wanted to fix it once.

    Thank you for the video! I have a 1999 Coleman/Fleetwood camper with the exact same lift system as yours, and luckily I haven't had any issues other than normal wear and tear. I am in the process of replacing the thrust bearing on mine as the internal rubber/plastic portion has deteriorated, which is causing the whiffletree to move a lot, and bind when lowering the top. I'm in the process of removing the PITA shear pins now.

      To repair the top I need to remove it. Unfortunately I don't have a place to store the camper while the roof is off... So she sits in limbo.

    Great video. I have the same camper (no AC) and luckily haven’t had the same problems however, I do need to replace the cargo deck. Did you get around to replacing yours? What material did you use?

      I'm sorry to say I haven't gotten around to doing much repair on the camper yet. And It may have to wait a while longer.

    Do you know anything about roof repairs? I have an E3 that leaks.

      Sorry, if your roof is like mine, repair is not an option. My roof is made of 1/8th inch thick plywood, plus 1/2 inch thick styrofoam, plus a very thin skin of aluminum, with a seam that run lengthwise down the center. The only way to fix the thing is to replace the thing, and I haven't done mine yet.

    I love your rant... it's very sad that some American RV manufacturers continue to make junk and never seem to learn where to over-engineer and where not to.
    Also if you don't mind my rant, as long as employers treat their people as an expense rather than an assets, RV factories like this one will have more uncaring employees. The business I run have great employees or I get rid of them. I'm known to treat all of them very well so I have no shortage of people hoping to go to work for me. It really does work both ways. Smart people want to work for smart bosses and smart bosses know they need to take good care of their good employees. If managers don't understand what a great employee should act like and do for their company they should have never become part of the management team.
    Okay, my rant is over.... I'm looking forward to any more videos, thanks for this one!

      I understand completely. If you have good workers that take pride in their work and make the company look good in what they produce, it's wise to do anything within reason to keep them happy and on the job.
      But I'm afraid in the case of my E2 Camper the priority for the folks in that business administration was just make it look good and get it out the door.

      I agree... its about profits at the expense of people!

    What is a wiffletree?

    • @LittleshopintexasSV
      @LittleshopintexasSV  7 лет назад

      The whiffletree is the crossbar, with an attached nut that accepts the acme rod which passes through the middle of it. This crossbar is where the cables from all four corners are connected. The acme rod that passes through the middle of the bar acts as a jack-screw which raises and lowers the camper top when turned. According to the manufacturer these part together make up the whiffletree. The point of this video is the show the importance of the thrust-bearing to prevent bending the jack-screw. If the screw can't turn, the top doesn't move. Thanks for the question. Have a great day.

    Way too many cheap parts. Shame on the RV Industry for producing so many poor products.
