There is no way the 2004 had less top speed than the 1998-2002 ! I owned all of them, and the 2004 was a big step ahead of 98-02 performances wise !

Style wise, i dont really like them either, but the engine performance is great. Yamaha won a lot of championship in that period with 6 and 7 gen r1, thanks to its m1 derived crossplane.
