Writing with the Apple Pencil is the main reason I left my MacBook Pro and went all-iPad Pro. You can easily erase text, move text, color text, etc. All while walking around in a factory. PLUS, you can do word search years later and find your stuff! MY MACBOOK PRO IS HISTORY.

Instead of getting the new Magic Keyboard case for my 11” M4 iPP, I’m using a Bluetooth keyboard & mouse and a foldable stand for the iPad.
The keyboard is thin and light with full sized backlit keys and stellar battery life from the internal, usb-c rechargeable battery.
The stand cost about $30 from Amazon.
The mouse is an old Logitech mouse I’ve had for a few years.
This setup cost me half as much as a new Magic Keyboard case. And it’s more ergonomic: the iPad is a little higher than it would be in the MK case so I’m not bending my neck down as much. Plus, the keyboard and iPad screen can be positioned independently from each other, another ergonomic win.
But the MK case is clearly more convenient and easier to travel with.
When I’m traveling, I just bring the bt keyboard. The ipad case I have is also a stand, and I just do without the mouse.

Hi, (I will assume you have an iPhone at least iPhone X so 1 oled screen), is the iPad Air screen really that yellow compared to your phone ? I didn’t like the m4 and am thinking of buying the air but I heard that the screen makes everything darker/yellow

@@-S-JM I have an iPhone 13 Pro. Turned True Tone off on both and held side by side while typing this. The iPad is cooler (more blue) and the iPhone is warmer (more yellow) to my eyes.
Both displays are very nice in their own ways. The only way I could see what you’re referring to is if True Tone is turned on in a room with lighting that biases the screen to be more yellow. But any of Apple’s products with True Tone would do that.

@@sleepyengineer679 ohh, then it’s perfect, tbf I don’t really understand the oled hype, was kinda disappointed since the colours aren’t familiar although my iPhone also has an oled screen.
Since I watch on my laptop who isn’t an oled I guess that’s the kind of screen I’m comfortable with, I’ll go as soon as I’m free to compare the pro and air (I should’ve done this from the start), budget isn’t an issue anymore however the speakers on the m4 disgust me, 4 is too much, I don’t know if I should wait next gen air who’ll probably have an oled screen which won’t bother me as long as it’s not two layers but I’m afraid they will add 2 other speakers
(I wonder if they’ll give it M4 chip)
To not get sores eyes, headache, tired eyes you have to put the screen at full brightness (because the flickering give headaches) and it’s impossible, at half brightness the screen was too bright already, when I put it at max brightness I felt like watching the sun.
I don’t often watch dramas, documentaries and others stuffs with read world content, im more into anime so having the best quality (deep black for ex) isn’t that much important, what I didn’t like of how the light colours became darker which doesn’t make sense
I’m an artist so that the only thing that require oled, I hate my life and my pessimistic nature, procrastination and other stuffs
I have another question for you, did you before had another iPad that you traded for this air ? If yes, which one and how much did you get for it (I may do this if I decide to buy an iPad this year)
The worst part about the m4 is reading a text, white lines on black screen is horrible

I couldn’t keep using my 10.5” iPad Pro. Or at least I really didn’t want to.
It could no longer fully support all iPad features. Primarily Stage Manager.
But the display was just too anemic as well.
As I got older my ability to read text on it, especially if I went outside or just needed to work in a bright environment, was just too limited.
Even the performance of the old iPad was a bit limiting.
The M4 iPad Pro Display brightness is astonishingly good. I can even enjoy watching movies in a bright environment.
But my ability to work on it anywhere is the biggest difference.
It’s quick. It’s bright. No problems reading manuals or anything else. The keyboard is great (though a bit heavy and not well balanced).
I haven’t gotten hooked on the Pencil Pro yet. I’ve been taking notes on a keyboard for a very long time. But I’m planning on adding hand written notes because sometimes I really need to draw graphs. And I don’t like switching back and forth from keyboard to pencil.
And, oh my gosh. The 5G is killer.
But will somebody PLEASE fix the iPadOS file management?
To me this upgrade was a complete no brainer.

I have the M4 iPad Pro and am quite happy with it. I do not have any version of the Apple Pencil. ipadOS is fine for what I use it for, although the lame way it handles files and file-systems is annoying. It wants to believe that users have only a few files to work with, while at the same time it is providing hundreds of gigabytes (or even terabytes!) of space. I'm using it many for entertainment and for controlling the few devices I have in my Apple home. Given the nature of the work I do, I could not use an iPad (or anything similar to an iPad) to do my work.

I have no doubt that this generation iPad should really make Apple think about rebranding their computer line. The iMac should revert to the Macintosh or "Mac" name. Leaving the iMac name available for the "mobile Mac" the renamed iPad. The designs already effectively mirror each other. If the Mac, closed up its bezels, rounded the screen edge to match the corners and dropped the chin while increasing size to 27" standard, then the Mac and iMac designs are nearly identical, other than aspect ratio. This would give Apple the opportunity to slowly phase out the MacBook lineup and leave a very simple line of incredible products. I would also love to see Apple drop "Pro" and "air" branding and just align all similar models into one design and just allow for internal customization to the desired or necessary capability.
    Mac 27" and 32"
    iMac 11" and 13"
    iPhone 6" and 7"
    iWatch 45mm and 50mm

    • @techmaester
      @techmaester Месяц назад +1

It is unfortunate that iMac is no longer a thing in terms of the 27" with the best display of any computer. The M3 24" is basically a glorified MacBook Air. Sure, it can't handle advanced rendering or heavy graphic design work, but then it's not a $6 Grand-and above product.

Great vid! The honest approach is def refreshing! So I have the M4 IPad Pro - and really like it! But like you say, it needs a touch-enabled desktop OS. I understand that MacOS on an IPad could cannibalize the MacBook market, but it’s the equivalent of what MS is doing with the SurfacePro - and Windows laptops and desktops still sell. And given that the IPad Pro is nearly the same cost as a MacBook now, it would just give users more options in terms of which hardware appeals to their workflow/lifestyle the most.

This is not necessarily a bad thing, as Sidecar allows your mouse near the edge of screen to appear on iPad. This is handy, but the drawbacks are the iPad be tethered to the USB or Thunderbolt, and getting the mouse back to the connected computer is a bit finicky. Nice feature and all, but I think this is mostly for those who want to work on a second screen. Think of it with the dual screen on Nintendo DS.

Thanks for the video... I agree. Apple needs to create a (dare I say) "Dex" Mode... Call it OS Air, or iOS Pro, or Mac-Daddy iOS, whatever... I've wanted a touch-enabled 2-in-1 Apple device ever since my first Lenovo Yoga. I miss the Apple of Steve Jobs... closest thing to Flynn we've had :D.

I have the iPad Pro 13 M4 LTE + magic keyboard and I got it to replace my gen 1 ipad pro 12.9. Its good for quick photo editing on the move but I get so frustrated with the OS for everything else. So I defer to my Thinkpad X1 Yoga LTE. When travelling I take both, but when I can only take one device, its the X1 Yoga its lighter, bigger screen and superior keyboard, despite the magical dual OLED on the Pro. Apple needs to invest in the OS!!!!

I love ipad and iPadOS. I dont even touch my old retina MacBook Pro. Yes iPadOS can be better but it’s good for me. I’m upgrading my 2018 11” iPad Pro to the M4. I wanted a better screen and that its on the 11” rather than just the 12.9 is a plus. Honestly I want the M4 pro in mini form but thats for another topic

I have the 2018 iPad Pro 12.9, and am doing great with it. But now i am running out of storage as i unfortunately only got the 64gb model back then… if the software took advantage of that new m4 chip, it’d be a no brainer for me to upgrade now. Plus that beautiful screen is calling my name…. But until that happens with ipad OS, it will be a test of how long I can stretch my remaining 6 gigs of storage 🥲

I've gone with a similar daily loadout since getting my Surface Pro a month ago, but with the older A12Z Bionic iPad Pro from 2020. As much as I like my 16-inch MacBook Pro, having a lighter load has been great, but I too find myself wanting macOS on the iPad. Honestly, if Apple were to finally announce an iPad running macOS, that's when I'll replace my now four year old device.

Hey Bud, Nice video. I hope what I am writing makes sense. I understand the frustration you maybe going through on the IOS vs Mac OS’s. It would be so much easier for all, if we could toggle from one OS to the other like the Samsung Dex. Pretty much the reasons I would go with the M4 iPad Pros is that, we know the prices aren’t going to going down anytime soon. I am thinking that if we purchase any older version of iPad that we would regret it later on. Seems like everyone is saying to purchase the older versions. Yes, that will save some money now but, we know apple will update the software and the way apple is abandoning the older iPad products. You will need to purchase a new iPad in the future if you want the newer iPad functionality. Right now I have the 2018 - 10.5” version of iPad and can’t even use Stage Manager, I would love to use the multi tasking option. So, if you purchased the older M2 iPad, how much longer would that last and what functionality would you lose in the next couple of years? Then…. How much more would the newer iPad Pro cost in the future from what is being charged right now? The cost in the future would get you the entry level iPad Pro in the next couple years. Compared to what you are paying now for a 512GB model. Just a thought.

I like Dex for some stuff (file transfers to my PC, making a display a makeshift laptop for casual use), but as a whole, for an OS, it's practically useless. Apple knows what they have with MacOS. It could be achieved easily on an ipad air/pro, but I feel they would do it as he speculated, only the top tier pro would have the option someday

Using the M1 iPad Pro for now. I’ll wait for the M8, or M9 iPad, maybe then there will be enough iPad OS improvements. Maybe also they will be starting with 256GB/16GB as base, and maybe also they decide to stick with one pencil and not make the new iPad incompatible with older pencils. Who knows 😂

Yeah me too I have the M1 IPad Pro as well but I might upgrade the next version that comes out, I had a iPad 6 or something and only upgraded because I wanted 120hz. Now I really don’t see a need except for a renewed battery and better screen and longer battery life.

To justify the extreme price tag, iPads should do that much jobs! But all I can do with iPad is writing notes. If I can do programming, run 3D modeling and video editing programs, and play games on iPad Pro, I will understand the price.

You can do all of those things, they’re just limited compared to desktop. Swift playgrounds for programming (you can build your own app from scratch and launch it directly from your iPad). There’s sketch up, shaper 3D, valance 3D, nomad sculpt, and even Zbrush is coming this year for 3D work, as well as octane for path traced rendering. Davinci resolve, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, Luna fusion, etc. for editing. And you can even play death stranding, resident evil 4 remake and assassins creed mirage on it

There are interviews from the iPad Pro release of Apple saying they have no interest in turning the iPad Pro into a windows 8 or windows whatever PC, and it makes sense. That will bring forth a highly compromised experience. Some people just can’t see that for whatever reason. Think about it deeper and you’ll realize it would never work. iPadOS is totally fine and a great OS. It’s an on the go OS for a machine that is made for true portability. Not much it can’t do. Learn the system more and you’ll find that out. Plus, it will keep adding features over time and this convo won’t even be a thing eventually. Can’t compare a 40 year plus OS to an OS that hasn’t even been around for 2 decades.

    • @commentarytalk1446
      @commentarytalk1446 2 месяца назад +2

No that is not it at all. Let's put the facts on the table first:
      1. For MOST users, iPadOS mobile-os is more than enough and currently sells as such: This includes the line-up of iPad Mini, 9th/10th Gens, iPad Air (both sizes) and some degree of Price Laddering and Premium Goods market of customers who max out on the top of the line range models with iPad Pros.
      2. For specialist users such as creators and business pros in such industries then iPad Pros maxed out are the go to Tablet and sell in this segment reasonably well.
So commercially there remains the business users who are left out of the above. Apple's solution to them is get 2 devices: Both a Macbook and an iPad and an iPhone to again boost sales and some of the others as well.
Now here's the real kicker talking commercial business interestings for Apple: If they did and they easily could provision a 2-in-1 iPad they'd CANNABALIZE their Macbook sales considerably as that is the main segment of customers who would switch to this device even more than business people running office apps on windows laptops which also some of which would migrate.
That's the fundamental reason why Apple does not provision an "iPad Ultra" line - yet.
If you try to argue that "technically" it's a bad experience equivalent to Windows 8 we can quite easily gather enough evidence that disputes that claim:
      1. Remote into your Macbook from your iPad: The experience of using MacOS on the iPad is absolutely fine to use on an 11" screen. It's not even optimized and mainly you'd be running it with a keyboard and touchpad or mouse.
      2. Which is precisely what the Magic Keyboard does and even looks very similar to a Macbook when docked!
      3. Context-UI is easily to dev such as Android eg DeX on Samsung and works fine so you can actually run your device like a tablet with touch-UI or like a Desktop with Pointer/Type/Windows-UI also.
      4. MacOS itself is aligning a lot closer in design language to iOS.
The main technical reasons against it currently are: Memory Allocation and background processes, CPU scheduling variations, kernal differences, different file system and a suite of user space restrictions eg virtualization, app installation, multitasking, file access rights etc.
Those are none of which are insurmountable technically. So in terms of both user design or technical specifications those are all solvable in some form. The main reason is business sense which also includes lucrative App Software margins to devs and purchases 30% apart from hardware sales of more devices.
Do note with the M4 chip or even the M1 it's so powerful you'd barely sacrifice the mobile-responsiveness or trouble the efficiency of task management in these devices already to say nothing of future M5 chips etc...

If you absolutely want the new Pro pencil, go for the air. If you need for a heavier workload go for the M2, the pro chip is more than capable and will receive updates for the next 4-5 years, especially with the higher screen refresh on the Pro. I was debating this exact scenario but opted for the M2 Pro and there are opportunities depending where you are to get the M2 Pro for cheaper than the M2 Air (particularly if going with a refurbished model).
