    Watching this video 10 years later...good stuff!! So many good titles for the Dreamcast. I can’t help but think piracy contributed to the short life of the system.

      It's pretty stunning that Bob and Doug McKenzie's signature way of speaking (two fictional characters on SCTV over 30 years ago) sparked this phenomena where citizens of USA firmly believe that that's how Canadians actually talk. And this stereotype has lasted these 30+ years. Quite stunning indeed.

    • @ArchaicStigma
      @ArchaicStigma 10 лет назад

      JanetStarChild Is that seriously where it came from?

    • @BigDaddyZakk420
      @BigDaddyZakk420 10 лет назад +5

      Chris Pie All No...Believe it or not, it's a stereotype for a reason. A lot of Canadians say eh

    • @JanetStarChild
      @JanetStarChild 10 лет назад +1

      Porco-Dio FIlm
      Uh.. no. That's like saying everyone from USA is a product of incestial conception.
      Stereotypes don't always equal truth. Usually they are fabricated by fiction and extreme exaggerations in pop culture.

    • @BigDaddyZakk420
      @BigDaddyZakk420 10 лет назад

      JanetStarChild I lived in Canada for three years, mate. Hate to burst your bubble but it's the truth, a lot of Canadians say eh, I didn't fucking say "all" now did I ?
      Deal with it, who cares anyway ?

    The dreamcast must have had the best ratio of good/bad games of any system, I cant recall any that were truly dreadful. So many great games,the sonic adventure games, crazy taxi, shenmue, soul caliber, toy commander, revolt, the one like wipeout but with hoverboards, snow surfers, jet grind radio, dynamite cop etc. Everything about the system oozed quality, from the great joypads with vmu to the built in modem. If only it had a dvd drive, i think thats what gave sony the edge with the ps2.
    My day 1 launch model still works perfectly and due to the lack of copy protection can play any of the 100`s of game iso`s floating around online, so building up a nice library is easy. I even have a motion controlled fishing rod controller for it (years before the wii).
    One of the best consoles ever.

    • @nerdman67
      @nerdman67 5 лет назад +3

      It was a hell of an effort by Sega. By all accounts it deserved to be a huge success, it’s a shame how things work out

    • @BawesomeBurf
      @BawesomeBurf 5 лет назад

      Not sure I would call the controllers great. Many people find it to be uncomfortable, it has a slippery analog, and for some reason only has 4 face buttons. The VMU slot was pretty neat though, and I loved how certain titles had minigames you could play on the VMU itself.
      But yeah, an amazing launch with probably the best lifetime ratio of good versus bad games. It's a shame this system couldn't save Sega, because they had done almost everything right.

    • @haroldhall1517
      @haroldhall1517 4 года назад

      @@nerdman67 it's funny because I can't remember wny great games on it. Just that it was the most expensive system at the time, my cousin won a free one from a raffle and we never had a good experience of any gamea he ever got for it. He never got any RPGs for it so the rpgs could have saved it, but everything else was done better on other platforms. Dreamcast was just expensive with no games to justify the price. Sonic??? Lol that's the joke, the only gimmick that game was originally praised and built upon was able to be achieved through any other consoles already

    I'm WAY younger than you guys but the Dreamcast is actually the very first home console I ever saw, and it was such a bizarre thing. I must have been 4 or 5 and we went over to a family friend's house, who had a guy living with them who had the console and the box in his room. I can never forget how awesome that box looked, with the photo of the Earth and the light coming up from behind it. I didn't play any DC games until long after but man that might be the most amazing console box I've ever seen to this day.

      Yea man it is a shame that Madden snatched up the exclusive license. They knew when 2K5 came out they had serious competition. Especially with the price difference. They couldnt afford to let 2K keep competing. I fuckin loved the 2K games. Used to play them over the madden franchise. I like madden as well though, but I really enjoyed 2K. I believe my family hadn't had the 64 for long when that friend brought over the dreamcast. The graphics were so much better than Mario Kart and Smash Bros.

It's the only system I've bought at launch (had it preordered 4 or 5 months before release.) And it was just too good! Brought it over to a friend's, played some Power Stone, TrickStyle and more. I only got a Dreamcast 3 years ago - my brother lent me all of his consoles and games while he was moving and when he was finished he just told me to keep it. Couldn't believe it - I got a DC with two controllers and two VMUs as well as Shenmue 1&2, Phantasy Star, Headhunter, Tomb Raider, GTA2, Vanishing Point and some other games... I was almost glad when I got sick during the next holidays so I had to stay in my room xD

    I've had a move around in my house as Im now using my HDTV as a screen for my PC on my desk - all my consoles are sort of sitting to the side of me waiting thier turn to be called upon - but the Dreamcast is still right there in front of my screen. How I love that system. I'd really recommend it to anyone who's never had one and looks at these videos and goes "Hmm!" SO many great arcade games! Its good to discover older systems - I never had a Saturn at the time, so I have a yen for that now..

    I played my dreamcast just yesterday. I played WWF Royal Rumble, Virtua tennis and NFL 2K2. Good Times. I have a cable to hook it up to a vga monitor.

    Haha. These things always put a smile on my face. I'll keep my memories to myself though, in hopes of making my own video on it someday.
    All I'll say is that I got my system about...6 years ago and love everything about it.

    LOL.... it's funny remembering how much Rob spent on the Dreamcast at launch, "..Over $500 dollars..."
    Man oh man, I was in line to buy the PS3 when it came out, $599 and no games, nor second controller. LOL. My how times have changed. I love these videos guys, please keep it up.
