    Is there a benefit to using individual rectangles for the memory chips around the GPU, instead of using a strip of the same size? I.E a single strip for the 4 chips on each side and the 3 chips on the top?

    Is you're card still running? I noticed in this video you had already cleaned all the stock thermal pads off ahead of time. I'm curious if you used a heat gun or anything like that in the original separation. I've lost 4 FTW3 Ultra 3090s after applying this water block and backplate. Each time the GPU would work amazingly with really low temps for ~ 1 month and then suddenly die. I have the revised water block with new stand-offs and didn't have any particular trouble separating the board from the heatsink but the disassembly is the only place I can see it going wrong. So far EVGA has been good about RMAs but who knows when they'll stop being cool.

      I just upgraded from a 3080 ftw3 to the 3090 ftw3. Same ek block fits both. My 3080 ftw3 has been running fine with the revised stand offs. Has your 3090 been working fine since you replaced the standoffs? Anything I need to worry about with the install? Sitting on a sealed 3090 ftw3 ready to install and dont want to fuck it up

    • @FlavorIII
      @FlavorIII 2 года назад +2

      @@teemohnay @Tyler _ never really got it resolved. Like I said each time I installed the water block it worked for approximately a month then would die. I feel strongly that I've installed the water block correctly each time too. At this point to be honest I think these EVGA FTW3 cards are just of a poor quality and they break easily during the disassembly. When I get my new one I'm going to run it with the same OC and stock cooler for at least 90 days before attempting the water block again.

      I run front and back. Temps with a 25 deg C Full Loop hold steady at around 38 deg in Timespy.. Can't get the board to go above 44 Deg even after 5+ hour sessions. Trouble is my board won't pull more than 410 watts in bench - EVGA issue.
      Clocks at +255 core +1000 mem 119% power. (XOC bios)
      Benching: Core stays at around 1925 to 1950MHz.
      In game it's more like 2050MHz and it does pull more power occasionally up to 415w. GPU Ram never goes above 45 deg.
      If they allowed us a proper unlocked bios This would be a monster setup... c'est la vie
      I would ABSOLUTELY recommend the active backplate if you can find one... I couldn't even touch the back of the board when it was air cooled 80 deg+ in the same case.... Those ram would have been COOKED in no time

    Im in the process of this. Or more like cutting the pads most of the time. As a professional machinist I was chocked to see the block. The finish of the contact surface to the chip is something worse than what a student would do. The very basic job of creating an even and smooth surface failed due to time saving method. This was passed thru all the inspecting entities from the worker to the EK representive and then on the market.
    Not only that, but this block actually has no spring mechanism of any kind for even contact. Its 4 bolts, a screwdriver, questionable block parameters and your skill of tightening all four bolts very evenly!
    First revision of this block had its stands sitting on GPU components around the screw hole. The second revision still has the D-RGB jumper with no room to plug a wire to it.
    And much more.
    Sweating my ass off with this thing and no idea if the card is already broken or how are the contacts if its not.
