- Today I compare the Sigma MC-21 to the Viltrox EF-L, to see which works best on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K / Full Frame. The answer may surprise you.
When I purchased my Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Full Frame (FF), the first thing I needed was a way to mount my EF lenses, so I ordered the most popular, the Sigma MC-21, but after trying nearly a dozen lenses, only one lens seemed to work the way it should.
So, I ordered the Viltrox EF-L, even though everyone said the MC-21 was better. See for yourself, why I'll be using the Viltrox from now on.

literally the exact video I need rn, thank you joe you have gained a fan
I'm so glad it was helpful. It's not perfect, but it works on just about every lens I have and the Sigma still only seems to focus with one of my lenses.
My next step will be to try updating the firmware on the MC-21 using the Sigma Lens Dock, but for now, the Viltrox is the clear winner.
Thank you for the video 😀
Thanks for doing this, its exactly what i needed to know.
I'm surprised that Sigma adapter is so popular. I couldn't get it to work with most of my lenses, including my Sigma lenses, which was even more surprising. The Viltrox seems to work with just about everything.
@ I bought the viltrox and I’m very happy with it on my canon and sigma lenses
I'm looking forward to using the new studio to re-launch Idea Of The Day. That Viltrox is so much better than the Sigma MC-21. It's also less expensive.
Thanks very much for your useful video: I thought Sigma adapter is better but you helped me from wasting my money.
Yeah, I was surprised too! It seems like the Viltrox worked much better for me. What surprised me most was that the Sigma adapter didn't even work well with my Sigma lenses.
Sigma intends the adapter for their newer lenses like their Art line, not those much older designs even though they designed them.
The strange thing is that everyone says the MC-21 is the best option, but thus far, it has only worked with 1 out of about 14 lenses I tried, and the Viltrox seems to be working with all of them, regardless of how old the lens is. Now that I have the Sigma Docks, I'm planning to try updating the firmware in the MC-21 to see if that helps.
is this viltrox ef-l? not pro ef-l?
This is the EF-L, not the Pro. The Pro version should work the same, but it also has a security locking mount.
@AskJoe Does the viltrox ef-L adapter work well with most EF lenses on BMCC 6k? (especially with electronic aperture control) I've seen many complaints on the blackmagic forum about it not working properly
@@머리속에수레바퀴 I have the MC-21 and the Viltrox and so far the Viltrox seems to work with just about all of them, and the MC-21 doesn't seem to handle the focus with most of them.
@@AskJoe Include electronic aperture??
@@머리속에수레바퀴 Yes. Focus and aperture worked perfectly with my lenses.
Great review. Thank you Joe!
Thanks. I'm optimistic about all the potential lens options that are possible since Blackmagic decided to use the L Mount, but it's been frustrating trying to get my EF lenses to work as they should.
Thankfully, the Viltrox seems to work with every lens I've tried so far. One thing I know is that out of about 14 lenses I've tried so far, only one worked with the Sigma adapter, which makes me wonder why it's more popular. Perhaps they will address this in firmware. I'll test that in an upcoming video now that I have the Sigma Docks.
I'm also hoping to get my hands on some other adapters to see if there are other options.
