Incredible live performance of Curtain Call at SXSW 2009.
all her records are amazing!!! shes a goddes!!! i love her!!! shes perfect
Thank you so much for your answer.
agreed, best new song by T i've heard. love the rolling melody of the piano, very forceful. it "takes you" with it. nice.
Tori you look so fab. I'm so exicted for this album. I think it will be better than the last & that is hard to do.
Great recording of this most awesome song. Thanks a ton for sharing!
I totally agree. I miss the old Tori on the older albums.
this song, really this performance, is growing on me, so powerful. tori, never leave us. i don't care if its beekeeper forever, i never want you to go.
This is the old Tori we love. THANK YOU COME AGAIN
I love how you can tell she is really into playing. Tori live=bliss.
True. It's telling that Toast is one of the strongest (and simplest) songs. As we know it was a late addition to the album in response to a personal tragedy. So spontaneous, so beautiful and sad. I can't wait to hear the album version of this song. No matter how much it evolves beyond what I fell in love with Tori always manages to strike a chord deep down.
it's incredible!
gives me hope for this new album
such a meloncholy song. She is good at that type of song -like Jackie's Strength, Hey Jupiter (Dakota Version) and my ultimate favorite, Winter. I'm upset she's not coming to Ohio on this tour. I saw her on her American Doll Posse in Cleveland.
thank you!!
Stunning love this x thanks x
This is a good one, and is getting me excited for the upcoming tour! :-)
You were right. Have you heard the studio version of this yet? It's different...I like this stripped-down version much better. Another example I can think of is The Power of Orange Knickers--so much better live than on the record.
I guess it is simplistic. Nothing changes the fact that when that piano and that voice come together with one of her beautiful melodies... it's sublime. I just she was as good a producer as she is a musician. That's the critical ear she needs; a producer that lets the music speak for itself. She did an absolutely amazing job on Pele and then everything since has been a little bit too polished don't you think? Ah maybe it's the effects of living in dull Cornwall - I should know I live there ha.
This is the best video I've seen of this song yet. You got some GREAT shots. Thanks for this! :-)
i think its confessional. and i love it.
Tori's HERE~ haha I'm loving it'
This feels confessional and honest, the 'old Tori.' I enjoy the theatre of wigs, but this seems relevant to the REAL TORI's life. Curtain call = aging in the entertainment industry? I'd listen to her sing kid's lullabys and even frickin worship music if it's honestly how she's feeling. Glad to glimpse the real woman. This is AWESOME!
I hope the new record is more pared down. I think there was too much going on in Beekeeper and Doll Posse, instrumentally. I'm still super excited though.
its definantly extentions, her own at the top but extentions to make it fuller
I liked the beekeper and I find it to be one of her best albums as far as instruments go. I love the Organ so .. And ADP wasnt my favorite but it wasnt bad by any means. So the finger to those who dont like the past 2 albums.
I know exactly what you mean as far as the "getting to that point bit." I couldn't have said it better myself.
Yes it is. Her hair is alive and well she just enjoys dressing up with wigs. The rumors about her being bald are silly.
Labeling someone's song as average is a little simplistic. If you don't feel the song, that doesn't make the song average. To someone else, that song is magical. Having an intelligent discussion about songs that come from another plane doesn't really work. It's not cerebral, it's so much more than that. And it's totally okay to discuss everything, always!!
Tori has produced some of the most beautiful music I have heard - guess that's why it's so disappointing when she produces something average. It would be so interesting in places like this to see intelligent discussion of Tori's music. Like what makes the plateau of Icicle 'I could have..I should have...flown you know, well'....so much more effective than ....'driving in my car on my way to Ireland'....For example. I think the last time Tori tapped into her genius was in the song Toast.
Althought I acknowledge the difference between the 'old' Tori and her new productions, I really like the new album (much more than ADP for sure). There is only one think that really annoy me: in her last records, she does not give her legendary vocal performances. Many says that she is loosing her voice, but in her live shows her voice is as powerful and strong as before (even if different, and that's normal: voices change with age). So, why in the records her voice is so 'shy'?
is that her real hair? for a queen, i'm so bad at telling. It doesn't look like a wig but maybe extensions? Doesn't really matter but I'm just curious. Excited for the new album, wigs or not!
AAArrrg, sorry, I meant to give to give you a thumbs UP. I agreed with your point about 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. I hit the wrong thumb.
Yes, I don't like the polished sound. Also, she doesn't sing out on the records. She keeps it in and it sounds kind of constipated. But the new stuff does sound promising... Fingers crossed.
....why isn't it ok to discuss weaknesses in Tori's music? I don't think it serves anyone in any circumstance be it work, debate, creation, to be surrounded by sycophants or yes men/women. So many Tori fans just seem to gush about everything she puts out as though it's all perfect and this just degrades her. She's human...she's immensly talanted and has given us all pleasure..but she's not there to be worshipped like some messiah incapable of doing any wrong. She would be the first to say this.
Got ya ;-) I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed. I must admit - I've zoned out by half way through Welcome to England each time i've listened to it but I do like this live version of this song. I just hope it's not completely sterilised in production. Does anyone else feel like when Tori comes on stage these days she seems really defensive & severe? Gone are the warm smiles from the RAINN/Glasto gig days I just don't think she's enjoying herself anymore. Just my opinion. Makes me sad.
oh man I totally agree with you. She's amazing but she's not perfect and neither are her records. I own and enjoy every one of her albums, I've been to every tour since 1992 but I far and away prefer the stuff with sparse production. Scarlet's walk was the last album that I found really inspiring and that's my opinion. It's a bit creepy to get to that point as a fan where objectivity goes right out of the window.
Yea me too I like around 50% of all her albums now. Even Beekeeper. It seems to be all about quantity and not quality for Tori. I mean the ideas and the melodies are all there still but they're surrounded by so much filler. And all the remastering crap/The Piano etc. I mean I know she's against bad quality downloads but they're only about making money. I might be shot for saying that! The songs weren't broken so why fix em? This song does sound pretty good though, better than the single.
Does anybody know what this song is about? It seems to be about a girl who is in drugs and a kind of enterteiner? no?...
