Columbus did not ‘discover’ anything. People had been living throughout North and South America for thousands of years before Columbus. They were the first people to discover America. He was not even the first European (probably Leif Eriksson). He did open up the Americas to begin a huge migration of people and for that he deserves credit. Like most people, Columbus was a combination of good and bad. Unbiased historical recording is very rare, but records of what people wrote who were there provide the best incites. Las Casas, who transcribed the journals written by Columbus and provides many illuminating accounts of what he saw, is one source I strongly recommend.

The word discover is debatable. He obviously didn’t discover the land but for the Spanish. That’s why they say it. It was on perspective. If they really wanted to say that he indeed discovered the land they would’ve never mentioned the people living there. Honestly I think it’s misunderstood. He discovers it, but in the eyes of the Spanish considering they didn’t even know it existed. Now I’m not defending his actions obviously but the word is depending on how people would’ve looked at it. That’s how I see it at least.
I acknowledge and celebrate Columbus Day every year... I go to the local grocery store and get lost in the spice aisle...

My dad was a biology professor. He was an expert on a specific protein (not medical related). His research consisted of 14 years of college (4 years for bachelor’s, 2 master’s at 2 years each and 6 years doing his Ph.D). Then there was 4 years of post doctorate work and another 4 years of being a professor and research associate before people considered him an expert and he was called to consult a lot. After school that’s 8 years of work. Including graduate school we’re talking almost 2 decades of work. Please tell me how does 2 hours online equate to 2 decades of work?

I doubt it. Most space travels currently offered don't fly far enough from earth to actually see the whole sphere. They don't circumnavigate the world either. Irving would probably say that he only saw a "bowl shaped" portion of the earth.

Most homeschooled kids do NOT belong to religious families and most are able to focus on their studies really well because they are typically not exposed to the problems that kids face in thigh school like drugs, bullying, bad company and so on.
