More courteous? That's got to be a fucking joke. Phone zombies fucking RUIN THE GYM now. Do you know how many times I have to sit and wait for some 140 pound fucktwit to finish his phone conversation while they sit and do NOTHING while having four sets of dumbells sitting at their feet the whole time... After 20 minutes of talking on the phone, they do one set and then leave all their shit for me to pick up.
Have to go either super early in the morning or late at night now to get any serious work done.
The gym has become a beacon for inconsideration and disrespect.

Eh, not all gyms are full of phone addicts... Gym I go to is a oldschool bodybuilding gym and people there are pretty serious about training, even some of the older people just put their head down and work
