One simply has to watch Hannah and Her Sisters, then Bullets Over Broadway to realize how gifted and versatile she is. One of the greats.
Yeah. & dont forget Parenthood or Rabbit Hole, were funnily enough, she plays a mother in both.
A tie between Tilly and Wiest would have been marvelous.
It's a pity that Uma missed this win, but there's absolutely no question in this second win of Dianne. She was the core of that film!
Then what’s she doing in the supporting category?
Dianne's immortal line in Bullets over Broadway: " Don't speak!"
I love Tommy Lee Jones's old-school presenting. Even-toned, dignified, not calling attention to himself.
Her performance in this is film is possibly one of the best performances I have ever seen in film. Dianne Wiest is quite extraordinary in this movie. Just looking at this video and also thinking about her perfomance in Edward Scissorhands, it is mind boggling how different she is in Bullets over Broadway, her voice I think really does the trick.
Really? Maybe it was because she had to act so theatrical all the time because of her character. Still, it's a wonderful performance.
Certainly one of Woody Allen's best films. It's a very funny movie.
@@gustavchristie9215 who do you put in first, second , third place, etc between these actresses?
Dianne Wiest, Jamie Lee Curtis, Robin Wright, Sally Field, and Uma Thurman
2:19 Tilly’s like “yah ok, fuck off, i should have won” 😡
Yep, she straight up looks pissed. That’s kind of sh***y, actually. It also says a lot about what kind of person she is.
I don't see that at all.
@@sstavskycool
One of the most deserved best supporting actress Oscar Winners of all time, imo! she also deserved to win for Hannah and Her sisters, imo! both directed by genius and Legendary Mr. Allen! ;D
She was the scene stealer in both of those movies and very different roles and performances.
Sigourney's like "...bullets over Broadway? Ha!", "I'll show ya some bullets into Aliens".
"I'm Helen Sinclair!" Dianne Wiest gave one of the wittiest performances I've ever seen in Bullets over Broadway, playing to perfection that jazz age diva whose theatricality extends even into her romantic life. Those who think anyone but Wiest should have won this award are delusional. "No. Don't speak! Silence!"
It was great reading a review where she begged Woody to get another actress that the acting wasn't working. She then decided with Woody's direction, to "lower" her voice in all her lines. And voila! Her second oscar. Congrats, and so funny!
It would've been great if Dianne and Jennifer tied. They were both amazing. "Thrilling, turbulent, a page turner. Charmed. Charmed"
I was Sam Cohn's executive assistant at ICM for 5 years and knew Dianne well. She was as nice and sweet as she was talented.
It should have been a tie with Jennifer Tilly, they’re both EXTRAORDINARY in the film, both equally HILARIOUS!
She bought myself and my work mates crisps in Jim doyles pub in bray co Wicklow Ireland in about 2000, lovely lady 🇮🇪
I loved her in The Birdcage and in I Care A Lot.
I remember seeing Bullets Over Broadway in a cinema when it first came out. I don't think the audience stopped laughing through the entire movie. Great Flick.
Jennifer Tilly looks so pissed.
I think she was nervous. She got a lot of criticism from ppl saying she didn't deserve her nomination.
@@moviehound4191 She absolutely deserved the nominated, have you seen the movie lol?
@@badrtaib730 I am not one of the skeptics. I love Tilly. I was just stating that at the time she got critized for the nomination.
this is one the best performance by an actress, she's really amazing, Jennifer Tilly was really good too.
I'm here from chucky s02e04
Clearly, Tiffany still hasn't let go that Jennifer didn't win.
Also ironic/coincidental/humorous that Gina Gershon went to work on with Allen recently.
Loved her as the mom in The Lost Boys.
1:41 oh come on she won? Wait, the camera is focusing on me, I will clap louder to disguise
Well deserved. I love Dianne!
5 maravillosas actrices en 5 excelentes perfomances...no hay discusión en este merecido Oscar a Dianne Wiest
How Uma Thurman never won an oscar is beyond me.
+TheMrAwesomeDx Umm... maybe because she's only okay, not outstanding. But in truth, her acting in Pulp Fiction is among her best.
+Ryan Perez Not quite. She's still no Dianne Wiest who was brilliantly funny in Bullets.
I think she deserved it for Pulp Fiction
TheMrAwesomeDx I could say the same for Jennifer Tilly.
I assure you, you are alone in that thinking.
Natalie Portman should have gotten a nomination for Leon the Professional.
Xtimespro 22 but as a lead actress
same with gary oldman he was amazing in that film !
She is Leading in Leon.
@@fulanodetal7229 who do you put in first, second , third place, etc between these actresses?
Dianne Wiest, Jamie Lee Curtis, Robin Wright, Sally Field, and Uma Thurman
Ralph Fiennes should have been the presenter...
Gary Oldman should. & TMJ should have been the presenter back in 1992 when Marisa Tomei undeserivingly won.
Di Caprio should be
@@HAL-vm3wn no, leo was not the best. Ralph finnes was.
@@drstrangelove6558 undeservingly?? Guess you haven't see the movie
@@rianfadhillah3269 I've seen the movie recently and I still think Marissa Tomei didn't deserve to win for My Cousin Vinny, she's funny and she has moments where you feel like she's giving an Oscar-winning performance, but when you look at the other nominees you realize that Miranda Richardson for Damage and Judy Davis for Husbands and Wives were better options to win.
I could listen to Tommy Lee Jones say Bullets over Broadway all day
Half the nominees went on to work with Woody.
I had to check the settings because I thought I had it in 1.5x mode
She’s simply Amazing ❤️❤️
Her performance should be in Leading Role. So that Jennifer tilly could win the Oscars.
I agree.... her performance was obviously a lead..
She is in no way, shape or form a Lead of Bullets.
then she wouldn't have had a chance
@@Rankutubuki88 that’s simply not true.. John Cusack was the lead.. there’s tons of the movie that Wiest’s character is not in
Her role was supporting and Jen didn't deserve it.
She is amazing!!
One only has to look at the expression Sigourney Weaver’s face to get really good laugh!!
No pueden mostrar los clips debido a derechos de autor
Me gustaría más si no editaran los clips de las actuaciones, por favor. Cuánto más puede durar? 3 minutos? Thanx anyway!
Sigourney Weaver looks beautiful in her prime.
Dianne Wiest has great acting in Bullets over Broadway.
Ralph Fiennes should have been presenting this award.
What a great speach!
What song were they playing at 1:36?
Toot toot tootsie goodbye
She deserves this!
Dianne Wiest is (currently) the last actress to win two Best Supporting Actress Oscars
what song is playing as she goes up to accept her oscar?
Toot toot tootsie goodbye
A Gorgeous Lady 🌹🙏🏻
Diane Wiest is wonderful but Virna Lisi should have been nominated and would have been a deserving winner for Queen Margot. Pity these awards are so American and English-film centric. That Virna Lisi won the Cannes Film Festival over all the leading ladies for Best Actress (including Gong Li, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Isabelle Adjani, Irene Jacob, even Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction also in contention) and did it with an essentially minor and supporting role in Queen Margot showed the power of her work here. Not many people in America saw this film, which is admittedly full of flaws, and the performance itself is transcendental. Evil but also vulnerable and sad and tragic, on par with the Glenn Close’s not dissimilar role in Dangerous Liaisons, but a totally unique species.
No way. Queen Margot is sad and forgettable and nothing Lisi did even compares to what Weist did.
Love her, she's such a sweetheart. But she's thanking the creeps of the film industry. She didn't know what was to come.
* merveilleuse personne!*
He has not aged well or looked well for years but you are right. In '95 he did look good.
The crowd claps were lackluster until Jennifer Tily and Diane Wiest.
Jennifer Tilly looks gorgeous when she's pissed @2:26
"Don't speak....don't speak..."
If I made an All Time Oscar, this role would win
Charles Boyle brought me back here 😂
TLJ is my ultimate crush,he's like a grown up Josh Hartnett
Loved her in Parenthood, & Law & Order👍😎
I like her in The Lost Boys
Jennifer Tilly looks pissed. lol
One of only two women (the other being Shelley Winters) to have won two Best Supporting Actress Oscars.
She is soo cute
Top marks for the humblebrag there: 'Oh, don't you know this is my second Oscar? Fuck you, I have two now. You hear that, two!'
Jenifer tilly or uma deserved that award
hard to think sally field didnt get a nomination
Jennifer really did a great job
@@Gencturk92 for me, sally field speech
fell bad in the academy, and she was Banned for Almost 30 Years.
Diane stood out more in her movie and gave the best performance.
It just occurred to me. Crossing the stage in that dress, she looked like Ruth Bader Ginsberg on her way to court.
I love Tommy Lee Jones's voice
Who was the main actress? LOL
I saw dianne west in movie title edward scissors so pretty in 1990 but why in 1995 too much change? I saw this movie Sept 2020 in Hits movie cable tv..
Sigourney...1:40...awkward...
I was never really of Woody Allen until Bullets Over Broadway. Diane was fantastic, but Jennifer Tilly BLEW IT OUT OF THE WATER!!! It as a very tough call between these 2 performances. It wouldn't have been bad if Jennifer had won. Olive. Charmed.
+Mikey Trahant I don't know nothin' about blowin' things out of the water, but Jennifer Tilly had the better part, and she made the most of it. Wiest's task was to overact, but Tilly's task was to _act_...a much harder role.
+The Buzzer Channel
Bullshit. Wiest was electric.
+Mikey Trahant
Anyone who is not a fan of Woody Allen has zero sense of humor and should probably stick to moron movies.

Well that is a bit insulting, because i am far from a moron , and my taste in film, i think is far superior to some. I don't love all of woddy's movies as i don't love eery Coen Bros., doesn't make me a moron or anyone for that matter.
Neither Sally Field nor Robin Wright nominated? Really?
Renee Zellweger looks like her. Are they related?
Richard gere too lol
I'm in the minority of people who think Uma was really not the deserver here.
Number one has really won here, my close second would have been her co-start Jennifer Tilly, that performance was just HILARIOUSLY brilliant.
Youre out of your mind if you think Jennifer Tilly deseved to win over Uma Thurman. Weist is the clear winner here, but what Thurman did in Pulp Fiction was acting. What Tilly did in BoB was just be herself for 20 minutes. I like Tilly, but she doesnt act.
I'm sure that woman had an unexpected visit from a killer doll that night 🔪😈
Era para Jennifer tilly
3:03 LOL
She probably didn't like the camera in her face watching her clap. LOL But that's what you have to expect at events like that I guess.
Am I the only one who is here from Brooklyn 99?
Tommy Lee Jones ftw
For the 1992-win for Jfk. Not for 1994
natalie portman should’ve gotten a nomination for leon
I saw this actress in a TV movie as a very young girl. She played an abused house wife. Finally she got fed up. Her husband came home and she went in the kitchen and turned the stove on and lit a match and blew both of them up. She is such a fine actress. Does anyone know the name of the film.?, Thanks

Great Finale 3:30 :)
Uma Thurman deserved the Oscar more that year
Diane was more unique, and her character stood out more.
I love Pulp Fiction, and Mia's character, but Wiest was phenomenal.
1994 remains one of the strongest years for movies but my god, it was a LOUSY year for actresses. This category slightly better than the lead one.
1:33
i loved the caracter of Mia Wallace.
Jennifer Tilly's career has greatly declined after being nominated for Oscar
She was in Bound after that which is a better film than Bullets Over Broadway.
Well she admitted many times that Chucky was something of holding her career. We all know she was more famous by becoming the iconic Tiffany doll. But we cant deny that it limit her exposure and career. She said in her recent interviews that, she could went to be the next Cate Blanchette then Chucky came🤣
@@Rankutubuki88 did she say that? she was very good in this movie, I liked her a lot as a comedian but not at the level of cate. that's too much Jennifer!
HELEN MIRREN!!!
Jennifer Tilly should have won for multiple reasons. Thats all I have to say.
At least two
I wish Rosemary Harris to win this one.
Then of course we have My Cousin Vinny winner and Norma Rae winner, we get a Holy Trinity................!!!!!
Uma Thurman should have won.
No she shouldn't have. Dianne Wiest deserved this Oscar.
Tarantino fanboy spotted
I like Tarantino but not for him I wanted her to win the Oscar. I think Uma was outstanding. That's it.
+Felipe Dumas Varon
Bullshit.
for wearing a wig and a pant suit?
He stunk as a host.
Give it up!!! It's time to stop running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thansk to Harvey thats funny
Still wasn't as bad as the 1989 show (61st Academy Awards). That was fucking horrible.
should of been jennifer tilly
"Don't speak"
No
Dianne Wiest wasn't supporting actress in my opinion
Uma. Oprah.
Jennifer tilly should have won
I love dianne but thus oscar was for Uma
I can’t believe how Hollywood typecasted this versatile actress into kind mom
