I mean, its not the worst "substitute" solo I've ever heard, but yeah, its not really close to the original's feel. At least he doesn't obliterate the original like Gary Holt did to Hanneman's solos.

Still goes to show that Zakk is no Dime. Can’t finesse it like Dime did. He pulls off Randy’s stuff with Ozzy pretty well but when it comes to Dime he’s only about 40 percent ability with Dimes stuff haha. But it’s only fitting to have Zakk play in Dimes place bc they were such good buds.
Funny thing about that, his tone here sounds a touch more articulate and less washed out but overall yeah, tons of better choices that would have done Dime far better!
I was only talking about Zakks stage appearance. The playing became way better over time and he might be the perfect fit because he had a real life connection with Dime and a history with the band. And I have to accept that people become old. Zakk's old now. In the late 80 he was jumping and dancing across the stage. I saw Pantera in the 90s and the energy on stage was different. Zakk's just standing there nowadays. Anselmo's guitarist from The Illegals for example is way more agile. In the end I'm fine with Zakk. Don't want to talk too much crap here. Who am I to say how this band should be put together.

Zakk refused to use Dimes rig, Randall Solid State rigs. Ima tube guy myself like Zakk, but the tone AIn’t there man… Dimes tone was his sig Randall Warheads that he loved and worked on developing for years… Zakk DOES NOT SOUND LIKE DIME, sorry.
The one good about this is that Zakk doesn’t use that horrible, electronic, computerised guitar tone Dime used. Sounded so artificial live. Always something that bugged me about them back in the day.

I always thought they’d sound better live with a warmer, more rich guitar tone. They were heading that way on Reinventing the Steel… I’d love to have seen what came after that but we’ll never know.
