I met Phil and Dime back in 1992. The were opening for Skid Row. They didn't have a hotel room, they stayed on the bus. We banged on the windows until they came out . Rex and Vinnie stayed on the bus. They signed autographs and talked with us for an hour. Phil was so likeable and real, and Dime acted like you were his best friend for life. Seeing the still of you with Phil brought me right back to that time. Way to go girl! Big score!
That tour was the first time I saw Pantera, and they were absolutely amazing! *Phil diving into the crowd off a 20ft high stack of speakers was beyond crazy, and it's no wonder he has back problems! BTW, they completely blew skid row out of the water, can't imagine having to follow Pantera on stage!
This is incredible. This is the first. Video I’ve seen of yours AND it’s fantastic. I’m going to see them VIP etc at the GA show 9/12 and this makes me even more pumped. IT will. Be even more interesting after seeing this video. Great job! Make more about Pantera!
Wow, that's f'in impressive. So cool you got to see that first hand. It's what every guitar player dreams of! As for noisegate's...i HATE them, you're correct...they'll rob you're gain. Awesome video !
Ask yourself this: How many other guitarists could Pantera call who already knows most of Dime's work? Not surprising you're on the short list. Congratulations!
@@ericvandrutenthere is one awesome guitar player that has written incredible soli and he didn’t have half a century of « high profile touring experience » and will never be allowed to. His name was Dimebag.
You’re right when you say Grady was a fifth member! He totally was. Kat with Vinnie too. And Big Val for security. Anyway… So happy for you girl! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I was in Austin and right in front of Rex. I had seen them Friday in Arlington and got invited to the Sunday show so I sold my Metallica Sunday ticket and I went! I snagged a pick from Rex and gave it to some kid. My buddy Dave is their photographer and he handed me a setlist and I’m already extremely solid on memorabilia and I knew it would mean a bunch to that kid. After the show I see the Kat and he asked me how it was and then gives me a Rex and Zakk Pick. Karma paid off! It was such an unforgettable weekend. I saw Pantera back in the day and this tribute was excellent. I really appreciate the Anselmo’s generosity! And I’m so happy for everyone involved.
I remember the 1st time I noticed that Dime didn't have any pedals on stage. When I looked at the back of the stage. I could see Grady on his hands and knees manipulating the pedals. Like Kayla says, it takes massive talent to be able to sit back stage and effectively work the effects pedals and be in sync with the guitar player. People want to give other bands sh!t for using laptops. Not everyone has a Grady. He truly is the 5th member. What a beast!
I think that laptops on stage with live bands shade was like 15 years ago. Being in bands for 30 years, I can say I seen it all, yes the first technologies that get integrated into music has always got shade from beginning, from instruments turning electric around the jazz, and acoustic country w/ room mic, to moogs and synths, to wireless stuff, to using digital recording gear instead of analog, using computers to edit tracks, and learning the software, to home studios around desktops, with USB, midi, highz, and being able to play something and it automatically writes your chords, and notes, taking engineers jobs away learning to punch in/out, clip mistakes, to adding effects to certain parts and needing the computer to be part of your rig, it's always evolving, but is so much more complicated now, but yet easier for a single person to learn, and make their own music.
Super happy that Grady is deeply involved in this “tribute “ Pantera tour ! Before anyone knew he was gonna do it I was really hoping that would happen! Cheers 🍻 Grady ! Thank You for Everything Dude ! Don’t worry too much Kayla you will meet most of these people again soon enough anyways… in the near future When You are on the stage ! You are well on your way to greatness in your own right ! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻You definitely deserved to have a wicked cool night like that! 😊
My band A Dank Season got to play with Superjoint Ritual once in Ybor City, FL. We got to hang with the crew backstage. Smoked with Hank III, etc.. Unfortunately, Phil was kind of stand-off(ish.) But it was really cool to experience the behind the scenes work that most will never witness. I was lucky enough to see Pantera back in 2000 or 2001. I don't remember the exact date, but it was in Orlando. One of the funnest shows I've ever experienced. They were touring with Morbid Angel and Soulfly. This was a fun video to watch. I'm a guitarist and I play live on a Gibson SG Voodoo. Keep up the good work.
Holy shit... there is no words for how happy i am for you, this must have been a crazy and almost once in a life time thing to get invited to.. wow, this is amazing.. :D
This was a great deep dive into what the techs do in the back. I knew absolutely ZERO about Grady's role in the back before today. It would be awesome if you could do a documentary or something showcasing all the different techs to guitarists out there, and how they allow the players to do what they do. Seems you've got a real passion for it, and you've got a hell of a start already with this video. I mean, Grady reached out to you. The guitar tech for one of the biggest fucking metal guitar players of all time looked you up. Holy shit tits, how amazing was that? This could be a stepping stone to something very cool. Fantastic video. Thank you so much.
yea, theres not much out there talking about what grady specifically does so i really wanted to cover a lot of that in this video. it was a learning experience for me too!!!
It would be cool if they took Dimebash on the road and had players like Kayla and Ola each doing a couple few songs and others Dime inspired, Zakk was Dime’s contemporary and he was the guy to do the job, but players like Ola and Kayla picked up the guitar because of Dime it would be cool just to celebrate Dime and Pantera’s legacy and give these new players a chance to shine and pay respect to their hero as well.
@brandonjackson5865 Ola changes his allegiance to his so called heros depending on who he gets an interview with. One minute his hero is Dime the next minute it's John Petrucci.
Your more recognized than you realize, if your on phil and grady's radar, im sure zakk, charlie and rex woulda known who you were, keep doing what your doing and you may find yourself up there for a song, grady is definitely the keeper of the flame and underrated, if i recall correctly, they ran the 2 whammy rig with dime and most of the time it was grady on it, rewatch the dime guitar clinic video and watch what grady's doing. So cool you had such an in depth experience, and having Phil's positive appraisal of your playing. You're just glowing happy, and it looks good on you. Whatta perma-grin.😊
That's awesome. You ended with the best seats in the house. I got chills from your story and watching the footage you got backstage specially the bits with Grady working the rig while the band was playing. Thank you so much for sharing.
Wow thanks for giving Grady the props that he deserves and his longevity with the band!! Amazing video! Also what a payoff for all ur hard days practicing, you got to go backstage for Pantera!!🤘🏻🤘🏻

So happy for you Kayla. You deserve it. 👍 And thanks for sharing your experience with The Dragon. I'm glad this was your focus and not just star struck footage. The wizards behind the curtain so often go unseen. And hopefully this will enlighten some folks on the fact that being a guitar tech is much much more than just tuning guitars ;) A tech's job is to oversee every piece of equipment being used by that performer for the entire show including in ear monitoring. Its their job to be ready for anything and be prepared with backups. And with a production and catalog of songs like this being performed live, it is a very overwhelming task. Hats off to Grady and hats of to you Kayla 🤘
What a delightful and well-deserved treat. Go Grady! I'm sure we'd all love more with him any time. Cheers! (the DigiTech Wammy is a true living legend, as well \m/ )
I had Zero idea that Grady did as much as he does. It is truly a performance. Without him there is a tremendous amount missing. 5th member would NOT be an overstatement. He is the MVP in my opinion. I am so glad you were treated to such an intimate experience. As a once working musician myself for 2 decades I know what goes into much of what you saw. It is no small thing.
So much t say but I'll keep it short: 1. WE ARE SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! you so deserve that experience.2.thanks for the insight as to what the players need to be so successful as a whole. 3. yourself and Ola are the two who have helped to make the deserving Grady shine as well. thanks for that! 4. you have been told hundreds of dozens of times that you are the top shelf for keeping Dime alive and his legacy growing. they are all correct. 5. thanks for remaining composed during your presentation of that amazing experience Miss Kayla, because I was not able to just watching it. So Happy and Proud for you!!!🤘🤘🤘 don't get a big head please. KIDDING.
Holy crap!! What phenomenal experience!! I'm so happy for you! I always thought Grady was a cool dude based on the Home Video's. Man, what a compliment Phil gave you. How could you even think straight after that?? \m/
This is one of the most amazing videos' I have seen in a while! Thank you for this. I'm really not surprised you ended up on the short list for PanterA. I'm glad they invited you out and gave you the family treatment. I honestly wish they would have let you play at least one song with them. They should honestly fly you out to a few shows to guest spot. I really think it would get such a positive reaction. Stay the course and keep that momentum alive. This is coming from a local friend and fan, and lifelong Dime and Vinny fan.
Extremely happy for you and I like the way you talk about it all... spontaneously, no stupid self-censoring, just pure excitement and bliss for being there to witness it! 🤘🏻
Well deserved, all of it. I'm not even that big of a Pantera fan, but I subscribe to you because I'm amazed at how well you can play ALL of their music. Happy for you!
Dude, this is a great video! Love to hear about the backstage stuff that goes on. Had no idea how busy Grady is. Really rad of you for documenting this. Cheers, Kayla!
I’ve heard about the guitar being controlled off stage but it’s very interesting to see how it’s actually done. Thanks for taking us backstage for a rare glimpse. You’re awesome!
That's fucking insane how much work Grady is doing. Way above and beyond what the average tech does for sure. And congrats on being recognized by being on the short list of Pantera guitarists. This is a great example of what happens when you just focus on doing what you love and work hard at it.
Wow! What an amazing experience!! I saw some photos on the Pantera 2023 tour Facebook group, photos of Rita and Grady sidestage and I could’ve sworn I saw you hanging in the back!! Of course they invited you!! Thanks for the stories love hearing all of this!! 😎
WoW Kayla what an amazing experience. So happy for you that you got to experience that. What Phil said, I'm convinced it's 100 percent real, we've been telling you since the beginning of your channel that you are amazing and that's the truth.
Thanks for the inside information on what goes on behind the scenes. I had no idea Zakk was using Dime’s guitar tech for the shows. It only makes sense after seeing your video.
Congratulations! What an experience! As someone who was fortunate enough to see Pantera with Dimebag, and again a few weeks ago with Zakk... nothing can compare to being invited backstage with the band. And as someone who made the comment on one of your videos a long time ago, about how I think you'd be a shoe-in as the fill-in guitarist for a Pantera reunion... I wasn't joking. And apparently, the crew thinks so as well! What an honor! And again, congratulations 😊
IDK where to start, This is absolutely amazing. Pantera is my favorite band and you crush it! Thank you for this insane behind the scenes footage and look into what really goes on at the show WOW! What an experience, I'm so happy for you! I saw them a few weeks ago in Camden NJ, I was really blown away by the performance. I was lucky enough to see Pantera twice back in the mid to late 90's best shows of my entire life. I could go on forever lol Keep on Keepin on Kayla you freaking ROCK!!! GETCHA PULL!!!
This actually brought a few tears to my eyes, Grady is a boss and was so integral with Dime's sound. I'm so stoked you are finally getting the recognition you deserve! PS your older originals are bomb! Never stop! 🤘🤘⚡️
I’m a huge PANTERA fan. Your video is inspiring so many people to pick up the guitar and play . Definitely inspiring younger musicians. Backstage culture is quite crazy… and you did a great job making this video. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
When I discovered your channel/videos a few years ago I was blown away, and I've been watching ever since. Dimebag was/is my idol and I've still never seen anyone nail his style like you. Seeing you reach new heights is incredible, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for ya. Getcha pull!
Coolgratulations 😎 from what this sounded like you might get the chance to rehearse in the coming future, when ever they finish a tour and didn't start a new record yet. Also so surreal to me still that both are gone, Vinnie and Dime, but the people who were there seem to have completely filled those two's shoes when it comes to energy and positive attitude. Zakk standing there with this big smile at the end connecting with the audience was beautiful.
talking about th song "becoming", i saw them back in 94 at el Paso TX with sepultura and prong, Dime threw me his pick during the verse, it´s my tresure! congrats Kayla you rule!
As a proud Texan this was truly an honor to see! I remember Pantera coming home to Dallas and being in Deep Ellum watching the master work. I’m living vicariously through you because I would be geeking out so hard just seeing the band and seeing the markings left by Dime. Amazing video!
This is such a good video and you're awesome for making it! These backline guys make the shows awesome! Guitarists would just be tap-dancing at their pedal boards if these champions weren't back there helping keep things flowing.
Great video! I loved hearing about your experience at the show. And when Phil said you were in the running for guitarist, I was delighted, but not surprised. You fucking kill it with the Pantera songs. It's not just about the notes, it's about the vibe and attitude which you have 100%. Badass.
,,,,,NO FFFIN WAY ,,,,...............so cool...congrats,,even they noticed your skills......so happy for you............keep chugging,,,pat, land o' lakes,wi..
you actually made my eyes tear up on this one....what a great life moment, you deserve it.Pantera crew has always been down to earth to the fans like DIME AND vinnie were!!
Wow who could have dreamt when you started doing these videos that THIS would be the result. What a wonderful thing to happen to you! Glad SOMETHING good can still happen to good people. What a story.
Grady is and always will be Dimebag's "Grand Champion" and responsible for Dime's sound from opening and shutting his NoiseGate,Reverb and doubling on his MXR Flanger/Doubler,Obviously his Wammy Pedal was split up between Dime and Grady!! Grady was Dimes Right and left hand man!!!
I'm so happy for you Kayla !!! You're an amazing player and you absolutely earned this honor !! I hope they consider bringing you on tour I would love to see that !!!
Absolutely *beyond* thrilled for you, Kayla!! You've got every right to be utterly giddy proud of everything you've accomplished so far and you've got so much more ahead!
Wow. Awesome video! Alot of answers here about the secrets of the Pantera sound! Congratulations on the recognition too by everyone in pantera! Thank you for this!
Holy BALLS Kayla! You made the best of an amazing situation and I'm really glad you got so much appreciation and recognition from the people you admire. The best part is that you didn't take it for granted and are very humble about your experiences. So many people would make it all about themselves, which is why I appreciate your content 👍
How freaking cool is that?? You deserve the accolades too. You've kept Dime's spirit alive and always done it with a smile on your face. That's the most important thing is remembering them as if they never left. Carry that experience with you always! -gary/texas
Wow it's awesome to see that! And thanx for sharing the experience! well deserved your a true fan ❤ and great guitarist Kayla thank you sister of metal!!
Glad you enjoyed yourself.😊 I saw Pantera during the 90s a few times and dont think I will be seeing the tribute shows. Im not knocking it or Zak and Charlie but its just not the band I have so many fond memories of thrashing to in my youth. That being said Grady and The Kat are both key pieces to Panteras sound and it was awsome for you to get to see how Grady worked his a$$ off to make Zak sound so good! I was hoping they would have done a revolving guitarist spot for the tribute with folks that were influenced by Pantera and I thought of you in my top two picks ( the other being Ola Englund ) and yes I do think you have not only learned the songs but have captured the feelings expressed in their work. Overall glad they reached out to you and had you along for the show. Keep thrashing 🤘😝🤘 you are awsome!
Congrats and well deserved! I was stoked for you watching this after you put it up. I can only imagine how badass it was to hear that from Phil himself. And I also love the detail you put for behind the scenes on Grady pretty sweet to see what alot of people don't know how much he really does. Keep it groovy. Also you made it in an article on " Metal Sucks " haha
I went and seen them in Utah. It was an amazing show. I seen them in the 90s. It was amazing. I wish the brothers were still around, but they sure are nailing it. So cool that you get to even be part of what you were part of and that you jam Pantera so well you are amazing. Take care, freckles you rock!!
Hey you are so informative and awesome insights. I jus want you to know you got a new viewer..... crazy how much goes behind the scene makes you wonder how groups sounds just straight pure no soundboard stuff
Hi Kayla. Your videos have been popping up in my feed for several months now and I enjoy seeing you play. It does my heart good to see the next generation play Dimebag's music. It speaks volumes to your worth that Pantera's guitar tech would personally reach out to you and invite you to a show. I hadn't planned on seeing the current Pantera tour either but a former coworker wrote a FB post about having an extra ticket, I took her up on it, and although we didn't sit together I had an awesome time. There was a tent that housed three of Dimebag's guitars. Seeing them up close gave me chills. My story doesn't compare to yours but I found it relatable. A few years ago I attended a family wedding in Dallas/Fort Worth and found out Arlington was only half an hour away. I invited three of my cousins to go to Moore Memorial Gardens Cemetery to see the graves of the Abbott brothers. Vinnie Paul had just passed two months prior. My cousins were all good musicians, two guitarists and a drummer. I'm an amateur guitarist at best but we all looked up to the brothers and it was a deep experience for me. My family of musicians paid tribute to another family of very great musicians. And your music pays tribute to that family as well. Best to you.
That is badass to hear that from Phil! You really are a badass with the guitar and it sounds like Dimebag!! I was at that Austin show with my 13 yr nephew and we had a great time! Been 20 yrs since I last saw them and they still rock it!!
Actually recognizing the work from the crew on your behalf is top notch class act on your behalf 🔥 thank for that “gear head” footage, so happy for you for going and experiencing the show. Also, Phil is a sweetheart. Party on dude!

Congratulations, sounds like one heck of an experience! All your hard work is paying off.
Oh yea he did everything..Dimes sound
I’ve heard about the guitar being controlled off stage but it’s very interesting to see how it’s actually done. Thanks for taking us backstage for a rare glimpse. You’re awesome!
That's fucking insane how much work Grady is doing. Way above and beyond what the average tech does for sure. And congrats on being recognized by being on the short list of Pantera guitarists. This is a great example of what happens when you just focus on doing what you love and work hard at it.
That's awesome. I'm happy you got to do that. You have the right people's attention, who knows what could happen.
Wow! What an amazing experience!!
I saw some photos on the Pantera 2023 tour Facebook group, photos of Rita and Grady sidestage and I could’ve sworn I saw you hanging in the back!! Of course they invited you!! Thanks for the stories love hearing all of this!! 😎
Liking and commenting for the algorithm to get some more love out there for Grady. What a beast.
Too awesome for words !!! Congrats!!
Wow! Just WOW!! I can't put it into words. Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 You rock. Maybe you'll play beside some of these guys in your own project one day 🎸🖤🤘
i think she'll be up on stage with Pantera before this current tour is over IMHO.
That is a ridiculous experience! Congrats on the invite and that they had you on a short list! Phenomenal 👏👏👏👏
LOL I love how much you geeked out during the show and took videos of all the guitar/gear in action! What an awesome experience! Thanks for sharing :)
Every time I see Grady here and there I always feel Dime's presence in him. The man is a legend and a "Champion" in our hearts forever and ever.
This was a freakin great video!
Such a good insight into the work Grady (and other crew members) do behind the scenes. Thanks heaps Kayla🙂
Very awesome. Glad you got to do that. Grady's a good dude.
I remember reading Dime saying Grady operated his whammy live and also refered to him as a fifth member. What an experience for you
When I discovered your channel/videos a few years ago I was blown away, and I've been watching ever since. Dimebag was/is my idol and I've still never seen anyone nail his style like you. Seeing you reach new heights is incredible, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for ya. Getcha pull!
Credit where its due from the Pantera crew, Im so happy for you! =)
Love that you are getting these opportunities. Keep up the awesome work, beautiful!
What an amazing experience, so awesome!
This is rad. Congrats!
Phil gave me a hug at Soundwave here in Aus and I'm still recovering from it.
You deserve all the things!
you actually made my eyes tear up on this one....what a great life moment, you deserve it.Pantera crew has always been down to earth to the fans like DIME AND vinnie were!!
You're not just an amazing guitarist anymore.... you're a scientist of music!
I saw them on their Far Beyond Driven tour and Biohazard and Sepultura opened for Pantera and it was one hell of a concert
It kinda looks like Grady is piloting a helicopter. So cool that you got to see the show from that perspective. Rock on K.
That’s possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. How awesome for you!
I’m soooo Fuckin happy for you!!! Human Noise Gate - Grady Champion
And thanx for sharing the experience! well deserved your a true fan ❤ and great guitarist Kayla thank you sister of metal!!
holy shit!
Very happy for you man. It obviously means a lot to you and I think it couldn’t have gone to someone who deserves it more.
You're really THAT good, Kayla..no one is suprised you made the shortlist for possible Pantera guitarist.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I did read in an interview with Dime where he gave the guitar tech props for working his pedal off stage.
Thank you to Phil & Rex for keeping the music alive. The Lads are smiling down!
Well deserved praise, you absolutely shred Kayla!!! And Grady is just outstanding... Thanks for sharing this, keep on rocking hard! 🤘🤘🤘
Thank you Kayla for sharing your heartfelt enthusiasm and insight. Your channel is outstanding and this was a particularly great episode !!
CONGRATULATIONS & PROUD FOR YOU!!!
GOD BLESS GUITAR TECH!!!
DIMEBAG DARRELL & VINNIE PAUL FOREVER!!!
🙏🤘🥲🫂😭👍🙌
Official rockstar. I’ve been following you for a couple years. You put in serious work and you’re going to be a got dayum star.
Also Thank You sooo much for making this video, its amazing!
What an amazing experience, thank you for documenting this! Can't wait to see them in the UK. STRONGER THAN ALL!
Actually recognizing the work from the crew on your behalf is top notch class act on your behalf 🔥 thank for that “gear head” footage, so happy for you for going and experiencing the show. Also, Phil is a sweetheart.
Party on dude!
Wow , Amazing story !!!!! Being on the list as a potential guitarist for Pantera is unbelievable !! I wish they let you play one song with them .
Wow what a wonderful experience! I'm so happy for you! So cool to get a peek backstage too. Really heartwarming to see these guys (including Grady!) back out there kickin' butt. And what an honor to have been considered! That is so cool haha!
