  • Along with the Falcon in the shop, my Father In Law is trying to get this old Franklin back on the road this year. The scene in the gas tank was horrific, so he opened it up cleaned it out, and asked me to weld it back together. I'll always take the opportunity to learn something and get better. This old, rusty, thin metal on this tank was the perfect opportunity for some more practice on the TIG. The MIG was blowing holes through it left and right just trying to tack the panels in place. It had to be TIG, and it worked out wonderfully. Using my Eastwood Company TIG200 set at about 50 amps DC (but definitely using the foot pedal to feather the amperage), a 3/32" 2% Thoriated Tungsten, some .045" ER70S filler and a #7 gas lens, I was able to get the job done! Check it out!

Nice video, thanks for the details on what tips / rods you're using. That's very helpful info.
Franklins are way cool and mostly unknown. They had an air-cooled straight 6! Pretty interesting idea!

Charles Hunger Thanks man! I figured you’d appreciate the Franklin walk-around ;). They are super cool! I honestly didn’t know they existed until he bought this one.
