That what I was literally thinking in my head cause I remember watching when Metallica ruled the world and James if I remember said lars put out an ad looking for musicians to start a band. They definitely fumbled the first question
I saw a danish interview with Lars yesterday where he said he put the ad in the paper, so the first one is not true. Lars said that the first meeting didn’t go that well though, so they only met each other again after almost half a year in the fall of 81
Right? And the wording implies that Metallica existed prior to Lars being a member, which is incorrect. These guys definitely have the wrong answer on this
@@jeffoulton4540 Yea I'm like 99% sure that they got the wrong answer on that. Lars was a founding member, and I believe the paper he put an ad in was a well known one for musicians in la at the time
Yeah that is i think 100% correct. I remember solely from a sort of documentary that aired in i think the early 2000s called when Metallica ruled the world
Video Idea: Ask A.I. what metal bands look like based solely on their names, show Jared and/or Austin the results and have them guess which band is which in each photo.
Lars put an ad in The Recycler which was a small sort of newspaper/magazine in the LA area searching for musicians that were into bands like Motörhead iron maiden diamond head and tigers of pan tang
Fun Fact for the last one to go along with: System of a Down’s Toxicity release show in 2001. They were to play a parking lot that would accommodate 10-15,000 people, but an estimated 30-40,000 people caught wind of the event showed up, and the event was cancelled and fans and the band were pissed
Lately I gained the habit of "singing" or hummimg Mario Brothers theme song whenever I am leaving the room to signal to my cat that I am ending the play time or leaving home. This was sort of a training thing to do because he often hides to ambush me or waiting me to throw his toys so he can jump on them, since he was a little cub. Now he knows what it means so I'm sticking with it forever. But I often also fill the silence humming that music while I'm alone.
A couple of other neat facts about James and Lars respectively, James was also the Finntroll in the episode of Metalocalypse (episode four if I recall correctly) where they wake up a troll sleeping in the bottom of a Finnish lake; lots of people know that one though LOL... a fact about Lars that a lot of people seem to not know at least in the wider world is that he's also a pretty good tennis player because he's actually from the third generation of basically the best tennis players ever in the history of Denmark with his grandfather and two of said grandfather's sons one of whom was Lars' father all being Olympic level world champion tennis players.
The first piece of music misprint was on the Metal Massacre 1982 Compilation album that had a bunch of metal artists on it, Metallica's Hit The Lights was included, but their name was mispelled as Dickey said, with two Ts.
About the artist behind the Load and Reload artworks, he already was a known artist at the time and recently his probably most famous piece have been circulating in media. This was the guy who made Piss Christ in the 80s and the artwork that was chosen for Load was part 3 in a series of similar photos. So the artist wanting to be anonymous is false but I think the band didnt want people to know exactly what was on the cover.
To be fair, the Rod Stewart one was a free New Years Eve at Copacabana in Rio. Mel C (yes, the Spice Girl) currently holds the record at more than 3.7 million at Sao Paulo Pride 2019.
This was a lot of fun to watch and the Disney clue definitely brought back a lot of memories since I loved that show when I was younger and I think I remember watching that episode, good times
This was great! Metallica was one of the two bands that introduced me to rock/metal. That was over 20 years ago so I'm excited to have learned new things!
They brought it up on a podcast episode that he doesn’t like dealing with the mess so he would be down if he could find a spot that will clean it up for them
I did pretty well. I honestly don't believe *any* car can survive a nuclear blast, so I got that one wrong. I didn't know the world record one, but got it correct by deduction.
I've always been a huge Mettalica fan, and considered myself quite astute in their trivia, but finding out Load, is actually a Load, has blown my mind.
The country singer mark collie called my mom drunk when he was trying to call his brother we love ine the same county thought it was hilarious he was frakin gone man
Lars: *cymbals keep falling off during audition* I swear this never happens. I’m way better than this. (40 years later) Also Lars: *Can’t play his simple “Sad But True” snare part live*
The people saying lars put out the ad aren't quite right either, theres several interviews where they've both said that they we're the only 2 people putting out an ad under the heavy metal category and eventually decided to meet up after a lack of response from anyone else
I really hope that Lars is like the most stuck-up art snob you'd ever find but also one of like the nicest people.... Like, he'd be willing to show you his drum setup, give you a house tour and stuff but if you don't know who Monet is he'll try to beat you up. That would be fkn hilarious.... 🤣🤣
A few errors in the facts. Metallica was spelled wrong on the first pressing of the Metal Massacre Vol 1 compilation, not a press release. Lloyd Grant who did play guitar on it was never part of the band thought and it wasn't re-released because he was replaced. Also Metallica were not the only ones playing in Russia. There was also Pantera, Ac/Dc and the Black Crows. Also the number of people has been growing over the years. It was originally estimated to be around 750000. About 10 years ago it was at around 1.2 million.
No it wasn't due to the cold, but due to noise restrictions for the protected wildlife :) but yeah, everyone had to wear a headphone. Sort of silence disco.
I don't think it should count because one it's all covers and two it wasn’t recorded in a specific time span. Most of the covers were pulled from b-sides, some were pulled from the garage days demo, some were recorded for that album. I would consider it a compilation album not a studio album.
@@georgewalker3702 I can see that. True, disc 1 was a compilation of old covers they did, but disc 2 was all new covers at the time, recorded in a couple studio sessions. That's why I would count it.
@@Lord_Raptor that's actually backwards (disc 1 was new covers and disc 2 was old covers) but your line of reasoning still makes sense. I respect it, though I still disagree.
Right off the bat, question 1. Lars is the one who put the ad in the reader looking to start a band, not James
That what I was literally thinking in my head cause I remember watching when Metallica ruled the world and James if I remember said lars put out an ad looking for musicians to start a band. They definitely fumbled the first question

1:51 Are you sure on that? I remember James saying on interview that lars put out an ad, he responded to it, and thought his drumming was kinda weird.
Right? And the wording implies that Metallica existed prior to Lars being a member, which is incorrect. These guys definitely have the wrong answer on this
@@jeffoulton4540 Yea I'm like 99% sure that they got the wrong answer on that. Lars was a founding member, and I believe the paper he put an ad in was a well known one for musicians in la at the time
Yup. The listing specifically said "Drummer looking for other metal musicians to jam with Tygers of Pan Tang, Diamond Head and Iron Maiden."
Yeah that is i think 100% correct. I remember solely from a sort of documentary that aired in i think the early 2000s called when Metallica ruled the world

Good to see more Donkey Ding videos being uploaded 🙏🏼
Question #4: Simpsons technically is a Disney property as well, correct?
Correct, 20th Century fox is owned by Disney
At the time it was made, no. Disney only acquire the Simpsons in 2019 when they bought Fox.

I really thought Lars put in the ad, and James answered too!
I'm pretty sure the misspelling of their name was on the original Metal Massacre
Jared was right with the story after question 1. Lars was the one who put the flyer and James called, and James said Lars’ technique was weird
Yeah, I do it too (filling silence with mario music) and I do the level 1-1 song mostly, even though level 1-2 is my favorite.
An idea for an intro:
*Welcome to the Dickey Dines Show where we Dine on Dickey’s!*
Simon and garfunkle did the free concert in NY
The country singer mark collie called my mom drunk when he was trying to call his brother we love ine the same county thought it was hilarious he was frakin gone man
Euronymous lol
What did you call me?
Just got off, new Dickey dines? Yes sir
System of a Down did a free show that got shut down by the police. Don't remember which city it was though.

No mention of the proposed 'Metallica' video game? 😂
Actually ACDC headlined that Russia show

Yeah that first one's 100% wrong, Lars put an ad in a newspaper which James responded to

Doing this same thing but with Pantera would be gold, Dimebag has done some real things that sound made up

Jared, why you look like a Chucky doll? Cut them hairs. Austin... Larry The Core Boi. Thank you, good night.
LETS GOO! MORE DOODLE DIMES SHOW
Well when u play in a city outside that means tge whole city is in attendance.... of course 3 million
Omg I literally do the Mario music too!! 🤣
Tryna gaslight my knowledge saying it wasnt lars that started the band.
You guys are so entertaining 😂
God of War axe??? 🐐'd
Super mario brothers tune all the time and the exact same one that jared said.
100% think of the Mario song randomly
Metallica posted a video of them playing in Antarctica and everyone had headphones on because it was too cold for the speakers
No it wasn't due to the cold, but due to noise restrictions for the protected wildlife :) but yeah, everyone had to wear a headphone. Sort of silence disco.
1.6 million was capacity at Moscow...
A classic rock band like Led zeppelin would be a fun band for a video like this.
Somebody hook me up with the sauce on where Austin got that fucked up version of the story for question 1 lol.
