    I'd say you have done everything right. Recovery using water is much more efficient than dry washing. Electric motors are more efficient and reliable than gas engines. The tailings is where the gold is at because over the years the oversize that went through the old timers dry washers has been broken down by weathering. Nice design of equipment. My guess is that you had years of experience prior to this project or you did a lot of research. I have run a larger battery/solar trammel for over ten years, it is the only way to go. Thanks for posting.

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  7 лет назад

      Thanks for the kind compliments Steve ! It takes more effort to set up, but "going wet" is definitely the way to go. You are correct regarding the tailings. Most of the good gold is on the surface and easy diggings. I have a theory that the bedrock material was the last thing they processed, which naturally would be on top of the pile. They also never had the convenience of a gas powered shop vac to suck up the bedrock crevasse. Finding lots of good "pickers" down there ! I've been a lode and placer miner for over 35 years as a hobby. I also build model airplanes and telescopes. Hope you've been successful with your wash plant over the years, and wish you good luck in your prospecting adventures !

    Wow that is really cool it looks like it works You should let everyone know that when recirculating material you will lose about 35 gallons per yard. If it is hot or windy that number will increase. Looks like a simple quality product.

      Mark, I'm flattered to hear from a popular mining manufacturing company. Thank you for the kind compliments and comments. As you can tell, I'm using one of your A52 Sluices. I really like the fine ribbed matting on the head of the sluice. Traps a lot pickers ! Your comments regarding water usage is correct. I've also noticed if the material contains considerable moisture (substantial rain this past month) the water replenishment is reduced. Bone dry summer material will definitely be a different story. Thanks again. Best wishes in your prospecting adventures !

      @@allansgoldmining That's amazing, it is a good and cost effective design, no wonder why it would be so popular.
      There prob. are alot of pottery needs for clay, just that shipping might get in the way.
      On the other hand, bentonite clay has alot of antitox properties - so as health remedy use, there is benefit. Not sure how much refining would be needed or if bentonite clay only comes from certain areas. I see here it says volcanic ash clay ... no volcanos in the area I take it ?

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  2 года назад +1

      No volcanos in the area. Just extrusive or intrusive granite and ryholite. Most of gravel containing gold are metamorphic. My spoof on the cosmetic value would be it contained particles of gold to preserve beauty. 😆 !

      Thank you for your kind compliments. Wish you good luck in your prospecting adventures ! In one of the washes on my property, I have found good gold in red clay. Very difficult to extract with a dry washer. Wash plant definitely makes a difference ! Due to high silt content in that clay, the feed rate needs to be reduced to give time for the dewatering trommel to catch up.

    Great video Allan. Very unique design the way you are filtering the water through the bottom trommel. !/2 gram per yard is fairly meager unless you're able to crank out the yardage. The part I wouldn't like about reprocessing tailings is that there is little likelihood of ever hitting a nice nug. The nice part about it is the digging is much easier than virgin material.
    Maybe you'll find a nice stretch of unworked bedrock full of big stuff. Nice work. Keep it up!

  • @cwellingtonrose
    @cwellingtonrose 6 лет назад +1

    Genius!
    My only concern was that the water flow across the sluice box was not uniform and laminar...it seemed to all rush to the right side (when looking uphill)...which then created a turbulent ridge of water all the way down the sluice box.
    I have always had the highest recovery when the flow profile was the same from wall to wall in the box...and considering how long I take to tune the box to find the "sweet spot" between angle, flowrate and riffle/moss sizes...the last thing I want to introduce is a wildcard like crazy flow.
    I think it boils down to the effective flowrate of the feed hopper/scrubber/spray head is not the same as the effective flowrate across the sluice box...you almost need a short circuit for some of the water leaving the first trommel to go directy back to the hopper/scrubber...maybe a dewatering screen over the flare end of the box into a secondary pump feeding the hopper..
    You won't lose any gold, not even flour gold...because the water and any suspended sediment never leaves the system...and eventually it will all travel down the sluice.
    I know when it comes to gold mining, everyone thinks they are an expert...and at the end of the day, the proof is in the pan...but since you too are a fan of Gold Rush, see Season 2, Episode 7 to see why I am so crazy about sluice box flow.
    May you hit the Mother Lode!

There are hooks attached for the trommel and sluice to rest on. These remain on site and pre set to the proper angles. Each time I arrive on site, I simply drop the equipment into place. Recovery rate is about 98%. Best wishes to you and your prospecting adventures.

    Hi Allan, I really liked your set up. A few years ago I thought I would love to be doing what you are doing, it looks like fun work with a chance of a Jackpot. It beats setting at home on your butt. Your equipment is well designed and except for your water trailer it doesn't look like you have a lot invested. Although you would never see it, but being born under the sign of Aries I can be a very impatient person, so the panning would be work for me. LOL A few years ago I came across a built gold reclaim machine called "The Gold Lab". All the parts including the battery fit into a plastic tote. Once you classified the pay the machine did all the work. I did go back to their website and it looks like there hasn't been much activity in several months. I could see this machine going hand in hand with your machine. Plus 'The Gold Lab' doesn't use much water. If you haven't seen the video's on 'The Gold Lab', you might enjoy watching how they had designed the machine. They said it caught all the gold including the 'flower gold'. Take care and be well. The Best of Luck. Bill

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Bill. Thanks for the compliments and ideas. I checked out the Gold Lab videos. Quite an interesting set-up for feeding a Blue Bowl. Normally, I pan the sluice cons with a Fossicker Maverick Pan (sold by Snake River Products) which makes quick work of ridding the light stuff. From there, I classify the cons into 20, 40, 60 mesh, then feed into the Blue Bowl. So much easier than panning all those fines ! The panning in the video was for demonstration only. Wish you good luck in your prospecting adventures !

    Hallo Allan, I can't take my eyes of your invention!.. I keep coming back here to see and to observe the simplicity of your work art!.. The gold is where is...but surely having the good equipment does prevent you from feeling disappointed most of the time. Set up is so good, it would probably pass our BC regulations where you can't dump the tailings near the running creeks, and this is mostly where there is lots of floating flakes and dust. I am wondering if this set up would allow to keep the flour gold as well?.. I using the pan, found areas where the flour makes the black sand almost yellow, but seperating it,....is another story!.. Thank you for sharing your invention, and explaining the whole process and materials used!.. This is very informative.

    It looks amazing. Seriously! I am trying to get a recirculating set up build that fits on my trailer so I can take it around and prospect in san diego. My question to you is, how do you deal with the specific gravity of the water changing over time? I notice that my recovery rates start to go to junk very quick. I have been working on a cyclone separator in hopes of getting a better separation of water and material. Once the water collects enough material and the specific gravity goes up all the flour gold is lost and as we both know thats MOST of whats out there to recover. How much recovery do you get off air sifted tailings must be super nice to scoop right off the top with no over burden.

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  7 лет назад

      Thanks for your compliments and questions. I have a considerable amount of flower gold on my property too. Your concerns regarding water viscosity are very important. I generally purge the water (about 40 gallons) every half yard. This may vary depending on silt or clay content. For example, this past weekend I was working bedrock, which had low silt content, so I ran the plant most of the day without purging. I like your idea of a cyclone. Would certainly do a good job separating, especially if you could get it to work with a 200 mesh screen. Wish all the best in your prospecting adventures !

    When I complemented you on finding gold in tailings I should have clarified that more. In dry climates caliche often cements some of the gravels. Some of that caliche cemented gravels would have been oversize to the previous dry washers. After decades on the surface the oversize cemented gravels become weathered and easily release their gold when washed.

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  7 лет назад

      Hi Steve. I understood what you meant. I just got off track a bit. These piles were created back in the 1920's. So, your comment is very true. I have peeled off the top layer of the coarse tailings, down to the sedimentation level. By golly, I found gold there too !

  • @offgridbc6810
    @offgridbc6810 7 лет назад +3

    I like the simplicity of your build and may have found a new project for this winter. I will disagree with your explanation of how the riffles work, though. They don't create a suction, if they did then all the light material would get sucked in first and just load up the riffles. What actually happens is, they create a "dead zone" or "drop zone" which drops out all the heavies and the light material keeps flowing through and off the end. But good video anyway.

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  7 лет назад +7

      OffGridBC Thank you for your comments. Actually my analysis is correct. It's simple property of fliud dynamics. As a fluid, including air, flow over a barrier, it creates a pocket of negative pressure. As velocity increases, so does this negative pressure (suction). What's happening within this zone is key. A vortex is created. For those of us who fly airplanes and gliders, we call it a "rotor". This rotor keeps the riffles from packing with black sand. Gold being heavier engages this vortex (rotor) between the boundary layer and is pulled into the riffles. Lighter material is expelled.

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  7 лет назад

      Hi Dan. It's amazing how much more gold I'm recovering "going wet" compared to my dry washer ! You are correct. There is a certain amount of silt that accumulates. Generally, I run approximately 1/2 ton before purging the primary and secondary tubs (approximately 40 gallons). Also use Jet Dry. This acts like flocculent, causing the silt to settle, significantly reducing any becoming recirculated. The gold panning at the end of this video is one of three (3) pans of sluice concentrates, after running about 500lbs. Let me know if you have any more questions. Best wishes on your prospecting ventures !

    • @dsullivan9797
      @dsullivan9797 7 лет назад +1

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  7 лет назад

      Hi Dan. Depending on how energitic I feel, it takes about 2 hours to process a half ton. I I muck the tubs with a shovel, then replenish with fresh water. That's a 500 gallon tank used to haul water to my remote ranch house. For processing, I generally only fill it half. Although this wet process requires considerably more equipment than dry washing, but results are impressive.

    Love this thing have made first trommel outer cylinder but I'm having difficulty fitting the pillow block bearings to the conduit w/o alot of grinding . Was that your experience? Maybe manufactures vary some?

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  6 лет назад

      The inside diameter of the conduit is about 1" depending on manufacturer. In order to adapt with the 1" bearings, I purchased a 1" x 18" swamp cooler blower fan steel shaft from Home Depot. Cut off 4" and inserted about 2" of this shaft into the conduit. Then drilled a hole perpendicular to the conduit / shaft, and placed a 10/24 bolt to hold things together. This made it easier to use swamp cooler bearings, collars, etc. You can purchase bearing that will fit the conduit perfectly, but they much more expensive, plus you would need to machine you own collars. Hope this helps.
