I love how she was taking it until he went after Telemachus. Then she was “you can talk crap about me. You can talk crap about Odysseus. Don’t you DARE talk crap about the boy!”
Wasn't the shell from the Roman Version/the painting "Birth of Venus"? If memory serves me right, Aphrodite was born due to the fight between Kronos and his father Uranus. Uranus blood that was spilled on the ground birthed the Erinnyes/Furies (and the centaurs, iirc), while Aphrodite was born from sea foam, when Uranus cut off scrotum fell into the ocean.
@@derskalde4973you know, whenever I remember how Aphrodite was born, I can’t help but both laugh from the absurdity and cringe from thinking about the cutting of Uranus’ man bits
@@WishBone-ht2mx there's this one video I watched about Aphrodite (overlysarcasticproductions) that describes her birth as "the ball sack sea foam bathbomb" hihi
Love the difference between Athena's approach towards Aphrodite with her touching her shoulders and speaking softly and her approach towards Ares because these two have been fighting since forever
Makes sense too because she’s also appealing to his nature. Ares and Athena share the domain of war but represent different aspects. Ares embodies the brutish aspects of war, the combat, the bloodlust, the carnage.
@@Draftsman_MC1300That is true but not entirely correct. In simplest and shortest way possible. Ares is god of battle. Athena is goddess of war. Ares is god of warriors, Athena is goddess of soldiers. Not every warrior is a soldier, but every soldier is a warrior, or at the very least should be. Ares as a word literally translates as Strife, ruin, bane, and later turned into battle. Greeks believed Athena was patron of everything that included war. Tactics, glory, training, equipment, etc. Ares on the other hand was more of the god of killing. Very specific and ugly job but nevertheless important, because how do you do war without killing? Hence why he was disliked so much.
not among the Spartans who were a military society known for being more violent then Athenians, fact also that their war music is opposite to what we think since their battle-hardened a lot that they need calming music to focus@@michasalamon8315
I absolutely LOVE the feathers and snakes slipping out as Athena gets worked up. Really lends to the idea of multi-faceted gods with more instinctual or wild sides to themselves. While presenting a human appearance to mortals and among polite company of fellow gods, Athena also could lose her temper and switch to a terrifying bird lady that will solve a problem with not her mind-just her sharp talons.
Iirc one version of the trojan horse had a guy and his sons killed by snakes for damageing the horse as it was concidered a monument to athena as goddess of battle tacktics so snakes fit there and owls are connected to her trough the wisdom thing
@@sonjavilenius8976From what I read, the Trojan horse was supposed to be a "stallion" for Poseidon. However, the man and his sons were killed by snakes sent by the furious Apollo (the man was his priest and broke his vows, for which he was punished).
I believe you're right, i've also heard the greeks considered it a genuine gift for Athena in the sense that the trick itself was an offering to Athena by using the symbol of her rival to play a trick ancient greek tales are so facinating with the multiple interpretations based on the reader and the regional differences in every tale lead to alot of fun stuff.@@ThopazOnyx
Dove as a censor is so great especially since they are symbolic of purity and this Aphrodite is more indicative of her characterization with her Pandemos epithet, who is very much not about all that. Love it!
ok so i hate being that guy who comes a month later just to correct but. the epitet that was about purity was Ourania which mean "heavenly". the Pandemos epitet meant something along the lines of "for all the folk" so that was quiet literallly the people's Aphrodite. Again i am really sorry about being a dick and correcting but i feel like it's good for the people to learn just a bit more trivia about this messed up dead religion we all have fun learning about. but i do agree that the dove as censorship was a fantastic stylistic choice
@@breadseal5586 Uh, the religion isn't dead. It's been revived. There are plenty of people who worhsip the Greek gods still, and some of us prefer to reconstruct the old practices as best we can with just some modern updates. Also to be a bit...picky, Ourania doesn't refer to purity. It's about whether that deity was on Olympus/in the heavens or not. It had nothing to do with purity or any similar concepts. Ouranic deities dwell in the heavens/Olympus. They were typically the Olympians, though there were others referred to as Ouranic outside of that. By contrast, you had the Khthonic deities, usually associated with the earth and the Underworld (Gaea, Demeter in some roles qualified, Persephone, Haides, etc). The Greek word for purity was hagneia. Usually as an epithet it appears as "Hagne" or sometimes you get the similar in meaning one of "Parthenos." It's why you see these epithets used with Artemis and Athena a lot as they were chaste goddesses. "Athena Parthenos" is literally what the Parthenon was dedicated to. Hence the name. But as far as I've seen, never were Hagne or Parthenos used for Aphrodite. She actually... has a lot of ones about how attractive She is, how She inspires lust, and a few that refer to Her as a war goddess. And before you ask how I could worship these terrible gods that do awful things, myth is not the same as religion. They can influence each other, but the myths aren't our Bible equivalent. They're just fun stories, and if you're pulling from Ovid's retellings, he wrote those to be scandalous and offensive. But if you want to know more about Hellenic polytheism (yes, that is the name for the religion), there are podcasts and other resources.
@@Kitchencrittergaming Ancient Greek religion is not dead. It has been revived. The epithet Ourania (heavenly) is not about purity but is just a reference to Aphrodite being an Olympian. Epithets that actually referred to purity were Hagne and Parthenos. Finally, the myths are not the equivalent to the Greek Bible. It is very important to approach the myth and religion as two distinct things that have some crossover, but mostly the myths are just fun stories, not religious teachings. Finally, Ovid wrote his myths to shock and horrify by his own admission. So being horrified by the crimes in them is the point.
I love how the very nude Aphrodite doesn't feel oversexualised. This sentence should not make any sense but she feels very confident throwing herself around completely naked the body language is really well done. Also in the end when they're defeated by Athena Aphrodite's body language gets a lot more closed off she is stunned and it almost makes her seem ashamed Really well done animatic!! Edit: omg also Athena looking like Medusa with the snakes coming up behind her!! Love all the references
Thank you so much!! I think it does make sense that a nude body dont have to be sexualized. I have drawn life-drawing croquis, which have taught me to see the nude body in a non-sexual way, I guess? Hehe and If I wanted Aph to be overlysexulized I would probably make the shot angle more sus 😏
@@anniflamma1496 I think it works really well especially because Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty, and while most push for the romantic side, there can also be an element of self love in there. After all, what’s more powerful than the goddess of love and beauty, knowing it and loving herself? It makes sense for her to be confident and natural about it rather than hypersexualized like a lot of portrayals make her.
They have a very nice relationship in the myths, for God standards. Aphrodite chose him as her lover and he never gets violent at her other lovers. Most of her children are with Ares.
I love, and I mean LOVE, the actual affects they can inflict on each other. Aphrodite is all about emotions and distractions, but since Athena is notably a celibate Goddess, it doesn't distract her. But when Athena stops time to get Aphrodite to focus and appeals to her with emotion rather than logic, she does end up listening. Then Ares shows up. And she has a visceral reaction to him because they're the two sides of the same coin. She has to hold herself back but knows that Ares won't appeal to logic or emotional honesty. He reacts to Pure. Fucking. FORCE. Because Ares is a bully, and Athena can hit back.
Ares is the opposite of Athena he is the violent side of the war so he will always oppose Athena because he does not want her to get what she wants, for him it would be a defeat
My interpretation is that, as the god of the admittedly more brutal side of war, the bloodshed and suffering, Ares does things in a more brutally honest method. He's not the god of generals or strategy, he's the honest truth of war, and he doesn't mess around with flowery language or politics. In his verse, he's quick and to the point. He says exactly what he thinks of Odysseus, why he disapproves of his him, and nothing more. Athena has to respond in turn, giving her argument swiftly and concisely.
The fact that Ares is just in Aphrodite's room with his helmet off and only puts it on when confronting Athena. I know they're lovers but I also wonder if her room is sort of like a safe space for him. The fact that theres like a lift that goes to the room as well...does that mean that each god has their own domain 'floor' cos thats a cool concept. Aphrodite being in a shell is perfect and her nudity doesn't feel in your face or sexualised, it just looks like she feels comfortable and she'd just lounge about like that. Athena's different approach to them is brilliant, the snake/feathers at her anger *chef kiss*
Mythologically, Ares has a very youthful face much like a baby face he is unable to grow a beard so he hides in his helmet so taking off his helmet in his lover’s room would be showing that it’s a space where he is comfortable to take off his helmet, it’s so cute!-
@@MiriamAidAres is the most handsome of Zeus' legitimate children. But is hated regardless. In contrast to ugly Hephaestus who everyone likes and depends on.
I love the Ares turning into a snake, he was known for being associate with dragons/snakes in myths. His entire look here is amazing. He also was associate with dogs, boars, bulls, roosters and vultures. Imagine Ares monster form that has head of a wolf, fangs of a boar, hands/claws of rooster, scales of a snake, legs of a a bull, and wings of a vulture. It also would be cool if he and multiple faces/heads. He was called ‚Facing all sides’, meaning he attacked in every direction. Damn. Now I want each Olympian god have a 40k monster/chaos god form.
Umm, I'm going to write all of this down! 👀 But I can tell you that I have some ideas for all gods in this animatic to have multiple forms. I was thinking about incorporating the woodpecker into Ares' design. I don't know how. I probably will just have Ares with a woodpecker as a pet instead.
@@anniflamma1496 not necessarly needed to have woodpecker as Just his pet. Do you know theory why Woodpeckers were sacret birds to Ares together with vultures and Owls? One theory is that its because they have Red feathers on their heads similar to war helmet’s plumes or what we would today call irokez hairstyle. Second theory is that it symbolised positive, fatherly aspect of Ares, woodpeckers basically create homes and feed their families by themselves, and if there is one thing everyone can agree on Ares is that he was pretty good father to his kids. Third, and in my opinion the coolest theory, is because the sound woodpeckers make, is the natural drumming, similar to war drums being hit when going to war. Imagine Ares going to war/showing up with hundreds of Woodpeckers making drum music as his intro. So maybe make Ares form have Red strip of fur or feathers on his head like a woodpecker Please take a look at this sticker’s picture because I think it is very Cool and inspirational. I do little art myself and it helped me when I was drawing my own picture of Ares www.redbubble.com/i/sticker/Ares-Woodpecker-by-tiels-and-mages/82815170.EJUG5 Other than that, I await very eagerly to see your next work. @@feliperoa5821 I was thinking something more alike Manticore but that fits too. Especially if they are standing on two legs and dog’s head. In Warhammer fantasy, manticores were thought to be manifestation of Khaine, god of war blood and murder. I find it fitting for Ares too
When Aphrodite moved it was as if she was swimming, and I love it considering in several myths Aphrodite was the daughter of Uranus, but was born from sea foam, she is part of the sea as well
That moment when you see the faintest glimpse of Are's head and hair before putting his helmet on to go to war with Athena. Then his immediate intimidation of advancing on her, and his cloak billowing around her to assert dominance. In other animatics he's like a stolid soldier, but in this he's the warrior with bloodlust. Your portrayal of him really shows him as an epitome of aggression and war.
There's so many details here I love. The doves, Aphrodite's dramatic poses, the switchs in the atmosphere. Also, how Athena is implied to be less human than she presents herself as (with the animal traits giving the impression of something more dangerous lurking in) whole Ares is more human than he presents himself as (when we see his figure, he's not yet wearing his helmet and looks like the figure of a almost normal man, but were not allowed to see the details until he puts the helmet on, hiding the human face that could be underneath. Also the... Scar, for lack of a better word, is in the helmet, not his face
Ares being closer to human makes sense. Strategy and cunning is not a strictly human feature. All being employ it some extent to survive. On the flip side, wars are seldom fought for survival. They are fought for things we as people hold important, and animals don't don't do that. Wars are distinctly human, and thus so is the god of War.
@spandanganguli6903 Wars are absolutely fought by animals though. Even if we restrict it to organized struggles between groups of animals (so nothing about the instinctive raiding and extermination that's endemic in eusocial species such as ants), you have stuff like the Gombe Chimpanzee War, where a troupe of chimps in Tanzania split apart and began a four-year long conflict which saw all the males of one of the clans killed and further skirmishes with other clans once the fighting settled down. It's believed to have started over a power struggle between three males over females, and it's not a unique situation among chimp troupes. War, if fairly primitive tribal warfare, is endemic to them. Bonobos, despite their reputation as being very chill, are also often violent in nature.
I love how Athena needed to use a different strategy for each god. Hera had to be handled tactfully, since she was queen of the gods. Aphrodite needed an emotional appeal, and Ares... well, he's Athena's little brother, and every eldest sister on the planet knows how to knock some respect into their brothers.
they're Half-siblings same horndog Father very different Mothers ironically though moth their mothers were married to said horndog Athena's mother was Metis a 2nd generation Titan with domains in Wise Counsel, Justice, and Cunning(basically Athena without and war Domains) Ares however was mothered by Hera
I also love how ares called Odysseus pathetic and weak, but ares canonically spent two days sitting in a pot screaming because he got a little hurt in a battle.
Athena is probably the best represenation of an asexual/aromantic in myth. Through all of her stories, she never shows any interest in a partner or romance of any shape, never marries, heck she was born fully formed from Zeus having a headache so she isn't even a product of a sexual/romantic relationship.
@@josephperez2004 as far as I know she was born from the head of Zeus because her mother died during Hera's revenge. Zeus took pity on her and carried her in his body for the remaining 3 months. (I may be wrong. And forgive me if I write incorrectly, I use a translator)
Haha, Aphrodie being pointed at with her "What did I do?!" expression. And I love the fact that you worked snakes into Athena's more wild side, showcasing her older symbols that were attempted to be erased but couldn't help but sneak in.
@@theultimatefusion7265Yeah she was either given to him default to get people to shut up or because Hera was trapped so makes sense why that doesnt really count as heartbreak to her
Ares gets a lot of bad rep in mythology (mostly because those cities and peoples who actually likes him didn’t write stuff down) but here he makes the same point Athena made. Athena might have made all these great plans, but Ares is the soldiers god. He understands that if you don’t have the stomach for the often awful things you need to get the job done, then you get everyone killed. He’d watched the Trojan war for years and he knows how warriors and soldiers think. But Athena’s heroes are more heroic, winning victories and kingdoms, and suffer tragic ends later on, while Ares’s drown cities in blood and burn them down, leaving a terrible story, but happy ending.
(Mosty beacause those cities and peoples who actually likes him didn't write stuff down) ☝THIS! My biggest grief in my life is all history that were lost and destroyed, and all we have are the smal pieces. For exempel, in the anicent city Taega, they had a festival were (men wasn't allowed to join, only women) honoring Ares and called him, "the god feasted by women". Celebrating about when the Tegean women won a battle against the spartans when their men starting to lose. So the women armed themselves and beat the Spartans. The first guy who wrote it, just wrote a couple of lines and then moved on. So all we have is what he wrote down and it wasn't much... And Im sitting here on the floor and wished for more details... 🥲
Well, they did write stuff down, but those writings and records were deliberately destroyed by their enemies. Mostly consisting of the Athenians, and the other cities we do have records from.
Honeslty despite being a war god he's surprisingly non misogynistic. He killed the guy who assaulted his daughter, loved his dragon children, and was a patron god of the amazons. I really want to hear a story of Ares and Artemis begrudgingly working together as patron gods.
Everytime I hear this song i just think that Athena is internally going "Ares you're just mad because you lost the war. Just admit you got bested by Hermes and we can move on"
I feel like Aphrodite flashing her jewels was an equivalent of a middle finger.😂 On serious note, this animatic is absolutely great, especially Athena's transformation
I love how even though Aphrodite was 100% nude I didn’t feel uncomfortable watching this at all. Her body doesn’t feel sexually pleasing to look at, just nude. It was a “good” mix between being nude but not being sexual. Great job balancing that.
You're on hella thin ice with that Aphrodite design, like damn... Also, WOW, Athena does not like her half-brother in this one, huh? Like, that was borderline Sabbaton levels of holy sh*t. I mean, I get the Greeks didn't like him all that much, but still... _GAWD DAMN_
The Greeks viewed Ares representing the horrors of war, in contrast to Athena, who symbolized strategic warfare. Ares was often depicted as impulsive, brutal, cowardly and get easily wounded. Which usually isnt a posetive thing. However we will never truly know what everyone in ancient greece thought of him. We know that Sparta liked Ares alot but we don't really have that much surviving texts about Ares from there.
@@anniflamma1496 what i know is that the most records about Ares are from ancient Athens. And the protector of Athens was Athena, whose competitor was Ares. So that's the reason most don't write so well of him.
@@foufoulo._.z To my knowledge, Ares was indeed barely worshipped aside from soldiers and obviously the Spartans. As mentioned, Ares embodied aspects of war nobody generally liked. Additionally, his appearances in the mythos aren't exactly stelar either. Ignoring the one where he gets trapped in a vase and it takes his divine family days if not weeks to notice he's even missing, there his also his part in the mythos of Sisyphus. After the capture and imprisonment of Thanatos, Ares is the first to notice the absence of Death, since there is neither fun nor a point to a war where nobody dies.
Love how Athena went from SUPER ANGRY GIANT WITH FEATHERS AND SNAKES to NPC standing emoji 🧍🏻♀️ when she was done. The clear sibling beef between Ares and Athena lmao petition to have the Greek gods have their own Kardashian show
0:31 the way shes so much bigger than ares and how she only vaguely looks human is amazinf! Not to mention how Athena THROWS Ares around so easily and the contrast to how she speaks to Aphrodite is amazing!
This is so amazing! There are so many details to love! Like Aphrodite is first lounging all sexy in a clam shell in in her birth photoshoot painting, the way she bounds into flight by pushing off with one hand, the bird cameo-cencorship! And the way she sits when Ares is doing his bit with Athena, just casually like a fully normal person, I love it! And Ares, I love that you first showed him putting on his helmet, like he's just now getting into the mindset for the argument and needs his helmet for that! And his bit with Athena is so dynamic and confrontational! I just adore how everything flows! Capes and hair from the strength behind their movements and how Athena's body does a lil' bounce when she returns to her typical size at the end. And Athena! I love what her eyes are like when she's under a command spell, and how her color flickers from red and blue as she breaks it. And she went so massive! With feathers like an owl and snakes coming out from her pauldrons, both of her animals are literally a part of her! There is just so many small details you've put into this, even the way Aphrodite flexes her foot like a model when she spreads her legs are amazing or how Athena's fingers sharpen to claws at the end, or the absolutely dejection on Aphrodite's and Ares's faces when they realized there was no winning here. And I haven't even mentioned how the colors changed so hauntingly when Athena begged Aphrodite, the shadows hiding both their faces but we can still feel them both! Athena is pleading, while Aphrodite is unwilling to even show her eyes. And the split second of disgust on Aphrodite's face when she says 'rot', I had to go frame by frame to see it because it passed by so fast with her moving, wow! And Ares turning into snake, moving so fluidly like shows itself! I've been rewatching this beauty while writing this, and I noticed another something! I really like how you showed Ares without his helmet but didn't actually show his face. He's the god of war and during battle all you see of your opponent is the helmet and sword, a nameless person to defeat before you move on to more bloodshed. Even his helmet hides his face entirely, not a single bit visible from beneath the shadows, not even his eyes. Athena's helmet, on the other hand, is similar in the front but more open, showing her face and eyes, implying she is still ready for battle but more willing to allow herself to be recognized and known, and similarly willing to recognize and learn her opponent. Her being the goddess of both warfare and wisdom, it fits her so well! And I love how you made Aphrodite not a 'perfect stick figure' body! She was a bit of a tummy, and when she glomps onto Ares you can see a fold on her side, I love it! And that end credit scene is so cute! Ares and Aphrodite immediately move on to more fun things while Athena is fully 'ick, I'm out!' I love it! And this comment turned into an essay, wow. But there's just so many details in this, you must've reseached so much, I know I had to google several details I've noticed. I salute you! 💙❤💗
Omg omg! It was so nice to read it! Thank you! I actually re read it over and over. And it makes me so happy that you like it and all of the details that you brought up! Oh man all I can say is that I really liked drawing Aphrodite and the scene when we first see Ares. 😅
@@anniflamma1496I truly do love it. I honestly can't stop staring at Aphrodite, her body looks just so natural. I love that aphrodite and ares are scared of Athena in this animatic. In my mind, it pays homage to the prophecy that Zeus once heard that the child that turned out to be Athena would be powerful enough to overthrow him, but Athena has no want for the throne
@@ChildOfCosmosWell, the prophecy clearly said that the son of Zeus and Mother Athena could overthrow Zeus. A son, not a daughter, that's why Zeus didn't kill Athena when she was born because he knew she wasn't a threat to him.
Actually, there are two prophesies; one where Methis (Athena's mother) would bear him a son craftier than him or Kronos. The other is Thetis would bear children destined to kill the father, thus both Zeus and Poseidon backed off. Imagine having "+1" ovaries!
I ADORE the way you portray these gods. Athena's almost unbridled rage the INSTANT Ares gets involved is BEAUTIFUL. Ares absolutely GRILLING Athena only to immediately be put on his back foot is so well shown here. Your designs are fantastic for the gods, too! Especially the end cards for Aphrodite and Ares!
OH, and of course I can't forget. The SMOOTH animation of the snake is phenomenal. I actually found this after watching your Ruthlessness video. I love these so much!
Oh my gods. there's so many thoughtful little details I love how you used the initial beats like it was an elevator to Aphodite's "floor", the refferences to "The Birth of Venus", also how we never got to see Ares's face, and how Athena start to lose her humanoid form when she deconcentrates on it Absolute masterpiece! (PS: have you thought about putting cupids singing the "Aphroditeee!" part?)
Oh yes I actually had ideas to have the Erotres singing that part. But then realized that meant having her sons on the bed with their nude mother doing poses and I didn't felt comfortable with that 😬 so I yeeted that idea pretty fast. Also I was to lazy to draw another 3 characters...
I absolutely adore your design for Aphrodite especially how she moved around Athena. I also love how Ares’s part actually overwhelmed Athena until she snaps out of it and then she begins to rage, showing a more primordial form and then quickly reverting to her normal self - like nothing happened. Love! Love! Love!
I love how Athena actually takes ares seriously because in other animatics she just looks annoyed or is apathetic and just letting him get it out But it takes ares insulting her friend to snap back in to focus Also love how Aphrodite is drawn as naked because she absolutely would
I like how ares first complaint was about how He had power to protect his allies but ended up holding back. I always thought of ares as a god that cares for soldiers, in the sense that, if they were gonna die in war, it should both be by fighting and because it was inevitable. so when ares saw Odysseus didn't act to save people when he could have, or when he refused to even attempt to kill or even hurt scylla for taking members of his crew. of course he was gonna be angry. now does that mean Odysseus made the Wrong choice? not necessarily. But from ares's perspective? he would have.
Yeah, Ares is also protector of mistreated women. Ares killed Halirrhothios (Poseidon son) when he raped his daughter. Even Athena vouched for Ares for doing that.
Yea, even if sacrificing 6 soilders to get the rest out alive and back to Ithica was the right play, we understand why Ares finds it morally reprehensible
I love love LOVE how inhuman Athena goes here and how physical the argument between her and ares is, it's not a full on fight but it's intimidating in the right way. These are GODS on equal footing
YOU'RE SO REAL FOR APHRODITE ! Like its only logical for her to be naked, she's the goddess of love, beauty and nudity, like why would she bother with clothes 🙄 Also i love the medusa reference for Athena !! Every detail is incredible, im in love with your animatics
I really like how Ares' helmet doesn't show his face, like saying he's completely consumed by his identity as a soldier. While Athena's half-shows her face, like saying she is in a warrior, like Ares, but isn't as heartless as him.
Ugh I love every little minuet detail of this! The dove censor, Ares and Athena shapeshifting, Aphrodite and Ares getting steamy at the end! Ugh I love all of this!
I love when Ares shows up Athena appears to twist into a gnarled rage, its like a preview of her deeper nature before she straight up turns into a cthonic mass of sepents.
AAAAAND YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!!! Love the fact that Aphrodite is naked cause she isn't ashamed of any sexual lustor her body, she's the hottest and she knows it and doesn't mind showing it. And how she actually gets pissed at Odysseus leaving his mother heart broken. Unlike other versions I've seen where she's just snarky, here she is being very passive aggressive and really showing how she cares for women who were scorned or were deserted with a broken heart. Ares, Holy jimminy christmas, only 10 seconds and I can feel his raw power. Yeah Athena is a war god of tactics and strategy, but he is the god of the brutality, death, destruction and hate of war. He is what we see war as today, horrifying, bloody, destructive and unnecessarily brutal and deadly, and you can tell even Athena gets paralyzed with fear initially, or just his raw power and strength forcing her to be still. He has no face because you often never see the face of your enemy in war. His snake form *chefs's* *kiss* Perfect! And Athena, no words, just amazing, how the atmosphere just changes in those brief moments where she has control over Aphrodite and Ares really shows her cunning and strength when she wants something. She changes tactics for each god and goddess and it's perfect! Also, love the fact she calls out Ares and Aph being lovers and in an affair despite Aphrodite (who looks dumbfounded when called out) being married to Hephestus (Who really got the shaft when it comes to life XD) Gotta say it, this is my favorite version! AGAIN! Please do Divine intervention I gotta see how you draw Zeus, Apollo and Hephestus! Your art is too good!!!!😍😍
Thank you so much!! 😊 I'm thrilled that you enjoyed my portrayal of the three gods. Your insights are spot on! I really want to do Divine Intervention, I have some fun ideas for that song. Though I'm planning on making Ruthlessness next once the new album is released. At least sketching out with the snippets we have currently... I really want to do Poseidon! 🌊 Thank you again so much!
I love the way Aphrodite moves at 0:21 it's like she's swimming through the air and the way her hair floats a little bit after, a nice nod/reference to how she came from sea foam
Amazing Afrodithe, so sexy and playful and cold! I love how Athenas neckless medusa scream, Athenas transfomation! Ares is so powerful, with blood on his cape, and the detail when he put his helmet on to confront Athena. Soooo good!
Everything in this animation! Athena’s gorgon form, her necklace that I assume is a reference to Medusa, Aphrodite’s shell as a birth story reference, Ares’ transformation, it’s all so gorgeous! Can’t stop rewatching
I like how you did Ares as a black snake in a certain point of the video, it also gives a highlight to what once he did to Cadmus, he made a remark that angered Ares, who then turned him into a black snake, according to a version of that story, but it also shows Ares' actual power, when he's at his "peak" as I'd say. Also, I like the details on Athena when she's confronting Ares, where snakes start to show from under her armor, they were a symbol of Athena's power of victory through death and destruction of the enemy, sort of like Ares, but then as a symbol of wisdom, feathers, I assume they were owl feathers, start to show from her armor as well, as a highlight to Athena's spiritual animal. I really like the mythologically accurate scenes in a single music video, well done!
I love how well you demonstrated the difference between Athena being focused on strategic warfare while Ares cares more about getting the job done straight on, a lot of people don’t pay much attention to that aspect of the differences in their domains
I keep coming back to this animation because of how you did Ares. The first thing we see other than his shadowed form is the scarred helmet at his side. Then he puts it on, but we aren’t shown his face, because that helmet IS his face. There is nothing but shadows beneath the cheek guards, and yet despite looking so similar to Athena’s helmet, it is a completely different beast. It’s larger, harder, more worn. While both are gods of war, Athena has other aspects that run off, while Ares is war in its brutal totality. Even when he transforms the helmet doesn’t go away, the eyes of his serpent form are!’ this eyes, they’re the skits of his helmet turned into eyes, scar and all. When Athena goes off on him, the sweat is on his cheek guard, not under it. It’s such a cool thing. I also really like the brief animation of his snake mouth at ‘TRY to kill her.’ It was neat.
I love the fact that Aphrodite takes the side of filial/motherly love. As a goddess of love she is always associated with carnal love but love has many forms!
0:02 Great lighting. 0:18 Dove protecting our purity. o7 0:21 I love how Aphrodite's hair forms a fish tail while she moves as if swimming 0:39 I love how us not seeing Aries move (just one frame of him starting to run then cutting to him in front of Athena with the only movement in that shot being the whiplash of his cape), really sells how fast he is. That he is so fast we can't see him move, but also he can stop instantly. Fucking fantastic. That's my favorite part. 0:42 Love how goopy his transformation is. Also, how his armor does not morph just his... flesh? The armor remains solid until it instantly turns into black goop. Also, the snake's eye scar matching the rent in his helmet is great. Interesting how both his eyes in his humanoid form are fine. 0:571:12 I love how different Athena's partial transformation is compared to Poseidon and Aries. She does not turn black, and her body contorts so unpleasantly. Really sells that this is involuntary unlike the others. Also love how the background showing the ceiling lets the viewers know the "camera" in this shot is facing upwards and that Athena is looming over the once looming Aries. The loomer has become the loomed. 1:02 and 1:09 Her face XDD 1:14 Love how the "camera" (what is the right word? Viewpoint?) swings down to follow her shrinking and the two smear frames in the wide shot. Though she might've actually been shaped like that so those aren't really smear frames. Really cool. And then how the downward motion of the close up shot continues in the wide shot, overshoots, and then brings the "camera" back up? Fantastic! Captures the motion brilliantly with so few frames. 1:21 Snerk.
I love this animatic but my absolute favorite part is when Athena had enough and did her solo at the end the silhouette, camera angles and facial expressions where just awesome I especially loved how she just yeeted Aries XD
I like that Ares has to put on his helmet. It shows that he didn’t go there to fight Athena and hints at the openness he has with Aphrodite (if we’re operating on the assumption that he rarely takes off his helmet).
OH MY GODD I love how Athena and Ares actually looked like two gods of war fighting!! I replayed the part where Athena grabbed him by his scarf thingy so many times!!! Gah so much to munch on with this video, you did a great job
I love the little ending bit of Aphrodite and Ares just being like "welp that's over with, let's make out" and aroace queen Athena(not to be confused with arrow ace queen Artemis) is just like "ugh nope I'm out" cause like it's even canon that she's one of the few people who's immune to Aphrodite's influence like yeah of course she can stand the closest to Aphrodite without just falling for her she's too on that grindset.
I've watched this about a gazillion times and it hasn't even been out for a full day! I love the designs of the characters and how you stay close to the myths, and how you really show the temperament of each God, and manage to emphasise how different they are while being the same. I'm sure there's other little details I've missed but one I'd like to point out is, as Ares is singing "as his friends get devoured", the black of his other form is creeping up him. Kind of implies him being a hypocrite lmao Truly wonderful!
Thank you so much! One of my favorite thing making these animatics are designing the gods! I do think that each god have different forms for different occations. Like, Aph do have clothes but she is naked here cuz she knew that Ares were going to visit her and she wanted to surprise him or something 😅 And I like to add weird details
Wow, the way Athena has the gall to grab Ares and fling him around like a rag doll, I love the way she’s able to adapt to the person she’s speaking to. It makes her so lethal. I also love how she legit LOSES her own temper in order to get through Ares’ thick bloodthirsty skull. She knew very well it was the only way he’d listen to her. That’s probably my favorite detail is even Athena has weak points and Ares seems to know exactly where to strike to get a reaction even out of the ever calm Athena
Some part of me wants to assume Ares is also internally just going "YES, FINALLY, YOU'RE ACTING LIKE A PROPER WAR GODDESS NOW!" While externally doing his absolute best to keep his joy at this hidden. Because on all levels, she did not even remotely answer a one of his accusations other than the idea that Telemachus was weak. (Unrelated, I think we have located who Odysseus learned to give apologies from considering his "apology" to Poseidon)
The literal mythological refences/connects to when Athena had the snakes and feathers is brilliant. The snakes are a connection to medusa and her history with the gorgon and how she became one. Thanks to a broken vow. As for the feathers that shows her connection and symbolism with owls. She was deemed to be the goddess of war and wisdom, an Owls throughout his represent as a symbol of wisdom. So yes, this is fantastic.
0:20 Love the detail of Aphrodite's arm moving that way. I've watched this thing a dozen times and the exact way her arm moves adds to the unsettling energy she has that lies under the surface of her whole shtick. Also, love how Ares uses a snake to represent his power. Snakes, famously targets of birds of prey, such as owls. Like in many modern tellings of myths, Ares really did not think that through.
Additional detail I noticed: Athena tries to talk to Aphrodite through Aphrodite's motif ("he was busy fighting" and "please reconsider this" both compliment her part of the song) but returns to her standard style (which I can only describe as "triumphant and orderly fanfare" every time I hear it) when butting heads with Ares.
I really love Ares' entrance and his entire part of the song that was really well done, I also really like how you don't really see his face. My fav has to be the end where Athena kinda loses it on both of them and has a bit of a transformation and then at the end she's just chill❤❤
the difference in style not just in how she interacts with each of them, but the animation style changing, especially the eyes!!! this has got to be my favorite animatic of this song, and possibly of the god games in general so far. the difference in the eyes gives away exactly how Athena feels about each of them, and how she knows to approach them, and you can just *feel* how enraged she gets and,, ugh this is so BEAUTIFUL
I love how you used the imagery of Aphrodite Pandemos, sultry and all, but the lyrics actually match Aphrodite Urania who held motherly love most sacred. Way to address the duality.
I love how Ares had his helmet off when he came in, like he went to Aphrodite's room expecting a calm time with his lover...then he sees what Athena is pulling and is just like "[Sigh], alright, GAME TIME!"
I really like how Athena and Ares' designs mirror each other; it shows that, despite their disdain for each other, they're both aspects of the same thing in war (Ares more the dirty, on the ground combat, Athena more clean, at a distance tactics and strategy)
This is definitely my favourite, mainly because of the Ares part especially where dashes over to get in Athena's face it's so short yet so much effort was put into it and the background detail with Aphrodite's expressions while Ares and Athena are arguing is just 👌, tbh I had to slow some stuff down to truly appreciate the effort put into this. Thank you for creating this masterpiece
I note that this one, like Ruthlessness with Poseidon, does the thing I really love with your animatics which is the gods' humanoid form being very fluid and more like you're dealing with a physical embodiment of a aspect of the universe. Do they normally take humanlike form? Sure. But that's convenience and they can and will change themselves to their own convenience like humans use body language. Also, the post clip part makes me think Aphrodite is entirely aware of Athena's lack of interest/awkwardness with her purview and is deliberately posing just to wind her up in addition to her verse. Just the sexy equivalent of "Oh, is this *BOTHERING* you? I didn't notice~
I love Aphrodite’s nudeness is literally pure innocence, almost like a child. Ares shows his bluntness, put also tactical in his own way for dealing with his sister
LOVE how as Athena loses her temper and becomes more and more frustrated and angry with Ares, and gets more emotional in the song, she becomes less and less human? Both the medusa esque snakes appearing (which is also a stroke of genius in how it mirrors Ares), but also in the feathers becoming visible?? Right up until she collects herself once again, and returns to normal!! Absolutely brilliiant!!!
I love how Ares is portrayed in this. In recent times Ares has become less of a threat than I think he really should be, but in this one his raw intensity overwhelms Athena for a solid bit, until he says something that snaps her out of it. Which makes total sense given that while she is the more logistical side of war, he is the more animalistic and brutal side of it.
Holy crap, I love your animatics for Epic, but this one is by far the coolest yet! The way you show all of them transforming, never staying in a single form, it really drives home this idea that their human guises are just what they adopt to keep from driving mortals mad. The way owl feathers and snakes kept "leaking" out of Athena's armor as her emotions got the best of her was beautiful!
I didn't know this snippet was this long, I only heard it before until "pathetic and weak like his son". Now I can't get over Athena defending Telemachus and calling him her friend😭❤🩹❤🩹❤🩹
I love how frightened ares and aphrodite look when athena start showing her power as a warning, it makes me remember in the illiad (or was it the odyssey, dunno) when ares picked a fight with athena, was totally destroyed and then aphrodite came to help him beat athena just to be totally destroyed as well, in the end both of them ended agonyzing pathetically on the floor, something tells me when athena starts growing they had some flashbacks and remembered their places. Also, I like that when athena stops talking she just shrink back into her classic form and they just stare like "I almost died here", they definitely remembered what happened last time😂😂😂😂😂
The dynamic poses and amount of emotion portrayed is so amazing here- And Aphrodite's motions are so fluid and Ares is so aggressively done, it's so good! I love every bit of characterization you gave all the gods - this was beautiful and I can't stop watching it
Nice animatic!I like how threatening you portraited Ares as, he's not alaways given a lot of respect, probably cause most the source are from Athens, so, y'know.I also like how different the approach Athena has with both, she just outright looks willing to strangle Ares, but is much gentler with Aprodite.I was surprised when you had snakes appear ON her. the Owl thing wasn't surprising, but while she sometimes is portrayed with snakes due to the Aegis(wheter that thing be a cloak or shield or wahtever), but never on her. Also, you're probbably the artist who draws nude people the most casually, you did it in There are Other Ways after the ending of Done For, and that short with Jonathan. I don't think those are the only one's you'll do it to either....

Well said!

Polite company and Greek gods are words that do not exist together
Iirc one version of the trojan horse had a guy and his sons killed by snakes for damageing the horse as it was concidered a monument to athena as goddess of battle tacktics so snakes fit there and owls are connected to her trough the wisdom thing
@@sonjavilenius8976From what I read, the Trojan horse was supposed to be a "stallion" for Poseidon. However, the man and his sons were killed by snakes sent by the furious Apollo (the man was his priest and broke his vows, for which he was punished).
Actually the snakes might be a reverence to the aegis, a goat skin with a gorgons (often medusas) head attached to it, that is often worn by Athena
Love it!
The dove was also Aphrodite's sacred animal, and her chariot was pulled through the sky by a flock of them.
ok so i hate being that guy who comes a month later just to correct but. the epitet that was about purity was Ourania which mean "heavenly". the Pandemos epitet meant something along the lines of "for all the folk" so that was quiet literallly the people's Aphrodite.
@@AppleStrawberryLovecan i get a cliff notes of this?
Also in the end when they're defeated by Athena Aphrodite's body language gets a lot more closed off she is stunned and it almost makes her seem ashamed
Really well done animatic!!
Edit: omg also Athena looking like Medusa with the snakes coming up behind her!! Love all the references

Her body language is definitely horny, but at the same time not? It's a really difficult balance, and the animatic pulls it off very well.

Ikr? It’s amazing!
Yes!!!
@@TarsuyapoyAlso she was literally created to be his replacement, so of course he isn't very fond of her either.
I never considered it before but I really adore the idea of Aphrodite's room being one of the only places Ares feels comfortable with his helmet off
Mythologically, Ares has a very youthful face much like a baby face he is unable to grow a beard so he hides in his helmet so taking off his helmet in his lover’s room would be showing that it’s a space where he is comfortable to take off his helmet, it’s so cute!-

All the gods are part sapient being, part force of nature. Athena chooses to resemble the humans she leads and inspires.
@@spandanganguli6903 THIS!!!
(Mosty beacause those cities and peoples who actually likes him didn't write stuff down)
☝THIS!
Ares feels like a toned down version of Poseidon. "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves"
@@vismaykedilaya1318yeah, both war and the sea are both personal and unrelenting.
1:01 I love how Aphrodite just looks baffled that she's included in Athena's anger
Bro copied me and got more likes 😐
@@Auroramyth I literally do not know who you are
Everytime I hear this song i just think that Athena is internally going "Ares you're just mad because you lost the war. Just admit you got bested by Hermes and we can move on"
I feel like Aphrodite flashing her jewels was an equivalent of a middle finger.😂 On serious note, this animatic is absolutely great, especially Athena's transformation
Of course Ares would come to the aid of his love, plus he loves butting heads against his half-sister just as much as he loves Aphrodite.
It's a 2 in one situation!
That's a win-win situation for him! He gets to go to the aid of Aphrodite AND butt-heads with his half-sister, Athena? A win-win!
I appreciate how Ares looks like a darker reflection of Athena. It's a fitting contrast for the God and Goddess of War.
I love how even though Aphrodite was 100% nude I didn’t feel uncomfortable watching this at all. Her body doesn’t feel sexually pleasing to look at, just nude. It was a “good” mix between being nude but not being sexual. Great job balancing that.
Yeah still very pretty even when nude
You're on hella thin ice with that Aphrodite design, like damn...
Also, WOW, Athena does not like her half-brother in this one, huh? Like, that was borderline Sabbaton levels of holy sh*t. I mean, I get the Greeks didn't like him all that much, but still...
_GAWD DAMN_
What gave you the impression Greeks didn't like him? That's a genuine question, not trying to be intimidating
@@foufoulo._.zThe myths involving Ares are.. far from flattering
Love how Athena went from SUPER ANGRY GIANT WITH FEATHERS AND SNAKES to NPC standing emoji 🧍🏻♀️ when she was done.
The clear sibling beef between Ares and Athena lmao petition to have the Greek gods have their own Kardashian show
I support the idea only if it includes their children as well. Including Athena’s adipted kid. I want Demos, Phobos, Eros, Enyalus art sooo bad.
@@michasalamon8315 Mmm yes Erichthonius, Eros, Hercules, all the jazz 😏😏😏 adds to the drama
People are dying, Eros!
Anyone would be annoyed, Hercules!!
Keeping up with the Olympians is a show I'd watch
:0 so good, I LOVE HOW ATHENA ALMOST LOOKS MEDUSA LIKE AND ITS ALL JUST SO UGH.
Also the dove censor is just funny 😭
0:31 the way shes so much bigger than ares and how she only vaguely looks human is amazinf! Not to mention how Athena THROWS Ares around so easily and the contrast to how she speaks to Aphrodite is amazing!
She is not bigger than him in this scene, he is just far away, he rushes to her face in the next scene and he is taller
I love how in ares beginning when he starts his verse, he just zooms towards Athena like “we squaring up?”
She has folds, when she's on her back and br3asts spread and move, and she even does the leggy! XD
Later, when she's sitting, you can still see all of that and I just love it so very much, it's so rare to see! [hugs tight] I truly love it. ^_^
Love the sibling vibes between Ares and Athena.
1:16 I really love the Aphrodite holding ares so he doesn't spring back at Athena 😭
I love that aphrodite and ares are scared of Athena in this animatic. In my mind, it pays homage to the prophecy that Zeus once heard that the child that turned out to be Athena would be powerful enough to overthrow him, but Athena has no want for the throne
If she wanted, I do believe she could overthrown Zeus. Girl fought against the Typhon, she did get all broken, but she held her ground.
Zeus is very lucky, because she is pretty competitive
@@ChildOfCosmosWell, the prophecy clearly said that the son of Zeus and Mother Athena could overthrow Zeus. A son, not a daughter, that's why Zeus didn't kill Athena when she was born because he knew she wasn't a threat to him.
Actually, there are two prophesies; one where Methis (Athena's mother) would bear him a son craftier than him or Kronos. The other is Thetis would bear children destined to kill the father, thus both Zeus and Poseidon backed off. Imagine having "+1" ovaries!
1:02 I love Aphrodite reacting like: “wtf I thought I was done. Leave me out of this”
loving how you drew Aphrodite and showed off her beauty
same
I ADORE the way you portray these gods.
Oh my gods. there's so many thoughtful little details
I love how you used the initial beats like it was an elevator to Aphodite's "floor", the refferences to "The Birth of Venus", also how we never got to see Ares's face, and how Athena start to lose her humanoid form when she deconcentrates on it
Absolute masterpiece!
Yeah that makes more sense lol
I absolutely adore your design for Aphrodite especially how she moved around Athena. I also love how Ares’s part actually overwhelmed Athena until she snaps out of it and then she begins to rage, showing a more primordial form and then quickly reverting to her normal self - like nothing happened.
Love! Love! Love!
I love how Athena actually takes ares seriously because in other animatics she just looks annoyed or is apathetic and just letting him get it out
But it takes ares insulting her friend to snap back in to focus
Also love how Aphrodite is drawn as naked because she absolutely would
I like how ares first complaint was about how He had power to protect his allies but ended up holding back.
PREACH MY FELLOW ARES APPRECIATING FELLOWS! PREACH!
Like its only logical for her to be naked, she's the goddess of love, beauty and nudity, like why would she bother with clothes 🙄
Also i love the medusa reference for Athena !! Every detail is incredible, im in love with your animatics
Athena and Ares are giving
"Tall little brother an Short older sister"
Ok but can we talk about how Ares had BARS
I find the fact that the Aphrodite part is the most replayed amusing.
Also, absolutely amazing animatic.
Me, casually checking out Ares' design.
Can we just talk about 1:09 where Aphrodite looked so sad but cute just like "oh shit she's mad, please don't kill me kill Ares"
APHRODITE'S DESIGN IS GORGEOUS
She looks huggable and warm.
So beautiful, and the hip dips??
Too much 😭❤
AAAAAND YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!!!
Also, love the fact she calls out Ares and Aph being lovers and in an affair despite Aphrodite (who looks dumbfounded when called out) being married to Hephestus (Who really got the shaft when it comes to life XD)
Gotta say it, this is my favorite version!
ATHENA LITERALLY WALKING OUT AS SOON AS THEY MAKE OUT IS FUNNY TO ME 😭✋🏽
I love the way Aphrodite moves at 0:21 it's like she's swimming through the air and the way her hair floats a little bit after, a nice nod/reference to how she came from sea foam
Ok but the moment Ares approached Athena was...WOAH!! Felt to perfect, so natural! The cape fluttering, Ares movement, everything was perfect!
Yupp, it's Medusa! Got my inspiration from the ancient arts itself, there Athena have the head somtimes embroiderd into her clothing
I've watched this video at least 10 times, and im not just noticing Athena's wearing a necklace with the head of Medusa on it- love that detail, 10/10
0:02 Great lighting.
0:18 Dove protecting our purity. o7
0:21 I love how Aphrodite's hair forms a fish tail while she moves as if swimming
0:39 I love how us not seeing Aries move (just one frame of him starting to run then cutting to him in front of Athena with the only movement in that shot being the whiplash of his cape), really sells how fast he is.
0:57 1:12 I love how different Athena's partial transformation is compared to Poseidon and Aries.
1:02 and 1:09 Her face XDD
1:14 Love how the "camera" (what is the right word?
Kind of implies him being a hypocrite lmao
Truly wonderful!
I love how Aphrodite has red hair because it's seen as beautiful in ancient Greece
I always imagine that Ares is a dumb jock when it comes to bickering with Athena.
@@anniflamma1496 it fits with what we get (although what we get is biased towards Athena, because almost all of it is Athenian)
I love in the thumbnail. Aphrodite's hair resembles the planet Venus
Also, when the bird was covering Aphrodite, I burst out laughing😂
Athena: **Ticked off at Ares**
Aphrodite: Am I... gonna die?
The way Ares got in Athena's face like that was so cool, like something out of a marvel movie
I absolutely adore how Aphrodite has hip dips!
I love how after Athena goes all big, she just shrinks back down and looks at them like "im done 😁"
Ares: I am two sides of a face.
*puts on helmet*
*starts violently rapping*
I really like how Athena and Ares' designs mirror each other; it shows that, despite their disdain for each other, they're both aspects of the same thing in war (Ares more the dirty, on the ground combat, Athena more clean, at a distance tactics and strategy)
That woosh of Ares cape is amazing. I love this animatic so much! Just all the imagery and how well its portrayed and executed just *chefs kiss*
Also I forgot to mention the CRAZY amount of detail on Athena's face especially near the end
I LOVE HOW ATHENA'S FEATHERS WAS FLUFFING OUT WHEN SHE'S FURIOUS AT THEM (THIS VIDEO IS REALLY WELL-DETAILED AND ACCURATE
This is Litterally my favorite god games animatic 😭
