Olivier Fichant Films Hello. I am replying to you one month into the future and hoping you have notifications on so you can see this. Basically if you’re watching RUclips in Safari, then you are limited to 1080p as Safari only supports the older H.264 codec, which is now limited to 1080p. If you want to watch in higher resolution, you’ll need to use Chrome or Firefox, both of which support Google’s newer VP9 codec, which goes all the way up to 8K 60fps HDR. However, since macOS does not natively support VP9 codec, it could cause the fans on your machine to spin up as it’s trying to decode the video in the browser.

Then effectively, my macbook has begun to fan super hard as if my computer had catched fire :) Now reading your message, I am reassured that it is not broken. But what is less cool is that my mac doesn't read the new VP9 codec!! How's that even possible with all the hype around this brand?
Worth to mention that in October 28 2019 the S1H has been officially approved to become the first mirrorless camera that can shoot Netflix 4k Originals contents. I mean, this is huge! Great review my friend!
Finally a review that mentions whether the S1H has the 96 MP High Res mode! I’m an architectural shooter who also does videos. This is going to be a great body with the Sigma EF adapter that allows us to use the Canon Tilt-Shift lenses.

The v-log and colour science of the S1H is intended to be the same as Panasonic's Varicam and Varicam LT, which are high end cinema cameras that cost tens of thousands of dollars. For example, high budget Netflix movies and shows are often shot on Varicam. To have this kind of video quality in a far less expensive mirrorless body is amazing.

Awesome job as usual. From my perspective as a GH5, GH5S, G9 owner.... Its all very well being able to shoot ISO 12800 (at least 2 full stops better than the GH5), but my best GH5 lenses are 2 stops faster than anything available for the S series (excluding the singular 50mm 1.4). So the expenditure doesn't add up at the moment, and the G series is more portable. I love what Panasonic has done with this camera but I think the GH6 will be here soon. For people with a good selection of fast M43 lenses at their disposal, I suspect the S series is going to prove a hard sell for quite a while. And if you need good autofocus, you need to invest in another system aswell. For me the best kit combo continues to be Panasonic M43 and Canon full frame. And as you mentioned in your video, the colours between the two brands are similar.
Thank you, this is intended for different type of users. There is a lot of F1.4 lenses available for the L-mount. I hope that the GH6 will be available soon, but I there is basically nothing happening in MFT, so I am not sure what will happen.
@@juliancroot Sorry but Voigtlander F0.95 you must 2X crop, so it is cca 1.9 depth-of-field to FF comparison and no AF, but yes it is relatively (I had experiences of colour shift on 0.95 on Voigtlander and really not very good sharpness:-()good lens for micro 4/3 if you dont want use Speedbooster.BTW.S1H is only one and first mirrorless camera on Netflix list of cameras and it means something!;-)GH5 has super video specification -I love it- but I am sorry real quality of picture is not equal to APS-C and FF sensors-real dynamic range main(and of course lowlight etc…)….

That is difficult tell since there are no light wide angle L-mount lenses available and longer lenses are more difficult to stabilize. I would probably say no, if you want to use S1H on a gimbal, get the Air 2 or Ronin S. If you want smaller setup get the GH5S and AirCross 2 or Weebill S.
Does the fan ever kick on during long exposure stills? Seems like that could be useful for long exposure night and astrophotography applications to reduce signal noise.

Thank you, Sony and Panasonic have very different approach to making cameras. You can do that using the VFR, but better option is to use timelapse mode and let the camera render the timelapse afterwards.

But basically the S1 of the SH1 is not much different except for the cinematic options, the tiltscreen and the on / off button. I am not sure if an upgrade is worthwhile for me. I'll try the 6k files on my computer if they work or my computer explodes. On the other hand, the S1H of course has all the fotospecs I appreciate as a photographer also the S1. AF looks good. I like the smooth focus changes and the lock-on seems solid. I still would prefer phase detect though. But this is far better than the first S1 AF reviews.
I noticed a bit of judder with most of your moving shots, but all of that disappeared with your gimbal shot at 10:27. ( something was different with the 10:27 shot ??? ) I am watching with a Samsung 65 inch 4K HDR calibrated TV.
@@TheHybridShooter I don't think the gimbal is the problem. The gimbal shot at 10:27 looks great, but earlier shots have that jittery shake to the movement. I am wondering if it was a camera setting or something about how the earlier shots were processed, because all of the problems are gone in the gimbal shot at 10:27. ( I was worried that it was a camera problem, until I saw that the 10:27 gimbal shot looked fine )
@@SewTubular I don't see any specific shaking in other shots either, so I can't tell what might be the problem. This video is exported with very high bitrate, so it might have something with playback or processing.
@@TheHybridShooter When I watch them in 4K it looks like the image is vibrating ( which reminds me of the bad old "jitter" from the GHx cameras ), like it's jumping back and forth at a 1 pixel level as you walk forward, but all of your footage from 10:27 and beyond looks fine. I will check it again tonight when I get home. Maybe it's a RUclips encoding thing ?
Correction: The Panasonic S1 camera doesn't use a BSI sensor, and I don't think the S1H does either. Doesn't affect real life use much since it holds up just fine against Sony BSI but just a technicality to keep in mind.
@@TheHybridShooter Theres no official confirmation of that being the case but I agree its a high probability with the measurements being so similar. The S1R does use a sensor resolution different from all the listed Sony sensors though. I guess it doesn't matter as much as the results.

Tobi The SH1 is a run&gun cine camera.The BM you need to rig up significantly before you can really use it: monitor, batteries, gimbal etc..Plus, with the SH1 you get a fantastic FF stills camera on top.

Its liturally only lacking a XLR port and internal ND's to be the perfect video camera. It's just incredible!
You can get DMW-XLR1 expansion unit to get XLR inputs and very decent controls.

Yeah, that would be great, but external RAW with Ninja V is still a great option.
SD cards are not a great fit for 6K RAW recording, and you can always shoot ALL-I if you want the same ease of editing that ProRes gives you.
Black Magic Raw suport would be nice.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to test that due to the short amount of time that I had for testing.

You can use Sigma MC-21 adapter for Canon EF lenses, so that is not a problem.

I noticed a bit of judder with most of your moving shots, but all of that disappeared with your gimbal shot at 10:27. ( something was different with the 10:27 shot ??? ) I am watching with a Samsung 65 inch 4K HDR calibrated TV.
No, I shot all of those shots on a gimbal, because I haven't had time to set up fluid head and a tripod.
@@TheHybridShooter I don't think the gimbal is the problem. The gimbal shot at 10:27 looks great, but earlier shots have that jittery shake to the movement. I am wondering if it was a camera setting or something about how the earlier shots were processed, because all of the problems are gone in the gimbal shot at 10:27. ( I was worried that it was a camera problem, until I saw that the 10:27 gimbal shot looked fine )
@@SewTubular I don't see any specific shaking in other shots either, so I can't tell what might be the problem. This video is exported with very high bitrate, so it might have something with playback or processing.
@@TheHybridShooter When I watch them in 4K it looks like the image is vibrating ( which reminds me of the bad old "jitter" from the GHx cameras ), like it's jumping back and forth at a 1 pixel level as you walk forward, but all of your footage from 10:27 and beyond looks fine. I will check it again tonight when I get home. Maybe it's a RUclips encoding thing ?

Correction: The Panasonic S1 camera doesn't use a BSI sensor, and I don't think the S1H does either. Doesn't affect real life use much since it holds up just fine against Sony BSI but just a technicality to keep in mind.
Wrong correction. It is Sony IMX410, so it is BSI and that is also why it "holds up just fine against Sony".
@@TheHybridShooter Theres no official confirmation of that being the case but I agree its a high probability with the measurements being so similar. The S1R does use a sensor resolution different from all the listed Sony sensors though. I guess it doesn't matter as much as the results.
S1R sensor is most likely not manufactured by Sony, and it is not BSI, but the S1 uses BSI sensor.
Thanks for your video(s)!BTW.S1H is only one and first mirrorless camera on Netflix list of cameras and it must mean something!;-)My God and I have so many E-mount (also video zoom) lenses(and A6300, A7RII), not really cheap!!! and Sony make NOTHING new for its FF cameras ,still poor 8bit codecs etc, so no way to "broadcast" quality in 2019!!!Shame!I really dont know, when I see this S1H ,I dont want to give away my money to new ecosystem, but I am afraid of Sony marketing:-(F..ck Sony!!Sorry, codecs is not issue for events, youtubers etc, but for indie makers...f.e.for me personally I have dream to make short (or longer?;-)) film to festivals or even to TVs, but with this poor codecs I am affraid no way, even HDMI output is only 8 bit. But picture quality "by my eyes", on my monitor, from my sony cameras- main in log2- is absolutely super for me, BUT codecs sucks :-(I was long time waiting for A7RIV and again the same 8bit! Sony A7S line was also hope but nowadays I begin to be sceptical about this :-(
Sony has FS5, FS7 and FX9 cameras for those who need professional codecs, 8-bit is more than sufficient for vast majority of productions, even in TV.

Tobi The SH1 is a run&gun cine camera.The BM you need to rig up significantly before you can really use it: monitor, batteries, gimbal etc..Plus, with the SH1 you get a fantastic FF stills camera on top.
