I totally agree...there isn't any real model shops here in Salem, Oregon anymore... The last one that I know of closed a year ago and I don't see any opening up around here, and the closest one is up in the Portland area...

I lived in Louisville in the late '80's and '90's and this shop started in the basement of an old home that had been converted to commercial property (I think the main floor was a dentist's office). It has come a very long way.
The last hobby shop like this in my area that I had frequented for 20 years turned into a Hobby Town with a rather small collection of scale model kits. You are so lucky to have this shop.
I sure would like to find the old universal studio monster model sets from the sixties.frankenstein, Dracula, mummy, Wolfman and phantom of the opera.you could even get them in glow in the dark models.

Myself and a few friends come to Louisville every year for Wonderfest. We discovered this shop a few years ago, and even though there are a number of good shops around SE Michigan, this is now a regular stop on our yearly visit.
Really nice place, Wish we had a good hobby shop around the Chattanooga TN area. Everything we HAD closed the door and left.. REALLY SUCKS 😞 Great video tour of what looks like a great shop. Thanks 😎👍

So great that some still exist! I owned a hobby shop 20 years ago, for 3 years. At that time internet purchasing was relatively new and I started getting asked to compete with online prices, more & more as time passed. But of course I was expected to provide the service, that the shop had provided in a smaller town, for 20 years prior me owning it. Small shops were unable to go online as cheaply & easily as they can now,. My policy of service (almost only) what I sell, helped people remember the service, that they were missing online. I'd spent countless hours in magnificent shops as a kid, hoping to recreate that for some kids in my shop. Single mums sure appreciated the help. But I took the overall hint and sold out, for what it had cost me to acquire. After making a modest living for 3 years. Other shops came & went since, all learning it's not so easy. Now everyone sells online regardless of size etc. That transition period to online selling, was very difficult for many. Also my risk tolerance for small retail is & was low, I'd never be betting my house on it!
Bundaberg City, Queensland Australia. I also grew up with a local shop back in Sydney, that was family established way back in the 1960's. Their whole family worked in that great shop and they'd be in the park on weekends having fun with customers. The simple Good old days!

We're lucky to have this shop here in Louisville. I lived within walking distance of Scale Reproductions and I would often go in just to enjoy being there.
Every time I go to Louisville I always stop at this hobby store. I always buy kits,paints,and what ever I fancy. A hobby store such as this is a rare jewel to savior.
Wow,reminds me of the Hobby Shop I grew up in back in Clearwater,Fla,The House Of Hobbies,only more clean! The 60’s was a good time to be a plastic modeler!
It's a great store run by a great group of people. It's worth the drive, with good local places to eat. All departments are very knowledgeable in their inventory, if you don't see it, they more than likely can get it. SEMPER FI
I talked to a shop owner in Richmond Indiana, he said if people don't start supporting the shops that are still open. Then there will be none for the next generation, like a lot of other things. Btw, I'm from Greensburg. So this place will be a road trip for me in the near future lol.

After I picked myself up off the floor I finished watching the video ..... then I thought about the incredible amount of aftermarket parts and supplies and the money a guy could save if he was able to purchase his parts and supplies under one roof ..... and the savings in shipping, not having to buy things online. The hobby shop display at the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) museum in Muncie, Indiana is great. It’s a recreation of a 1950s era shop specializing in flying model airplanes.

I've just randomly come across this video.... Wow! My local shop here in the UK is fairly large and well stocked, but I think that the entire shop would fit in just a 3 or 4 of the shelves shown here...
I haven’t been in a hobby shop for years and I’m 67 years old , as a kid the shops had the basic kits Revel , Monogram etc . Nothing like today , all of these great extras and add ons . Very cool . Sadly the eyes and hands do not work like they used to but it’s nice to see how these other hobbiests go the extra mile on their kits to get that realistic feel
Ahhh go on... get a magnifying lamp, good pair of tweezers and a kit or two and just have some fun! Even a walk through a shop like that makes you feel energized - although it does make you want to buy everything in sight!
I used to do models, but as I am older now, I have no time or room for them. Have about 30 models as I used to work in a hobby store. The new models are amazing in their detail, also their cost too.
I made it 5 minutes in and couldn't see, because there were so many man tears in my eyes. 😥 I'm out in So. Cal. and I haven't seen a hobby shop that magnificent in years! There are still a small handful of good, small shops I can go to, but I remember one roughly that size back in the 80's and it was heaven for me. I hope that things may turn around, and the hobby gets the kind of attention and support that it used to. It's possible. I have a nephew who's about 17/18 and he was heavily into Lego... now I understand he's very much into plastic models! Hope for the future. 😉
This is my local shop. Great for everything. I switch hobbies all time and they always go the ones I hop to. Rc first, then model cars, then gundams, painting, etc etc.
Great shop! As far as the HO & N scale locomotives and cars, the model railroad industry went through a marketing strategy change a number of years ago. The manufacturers now announce what locos and cars they’re planning on releasing well in advance of the actual production, often more than a year ahead! If it’s something you’re interested in, you have to “reserve” how ever many you want, and then wait a year! Production runs are very limited, and if you don’t reserve what you want, you’ll likely never get one! The days of display cases stacked full of a wide variety of locomotives are long gone!
Awesome! I have at least 150 model aircraft kits. A mix of 1/48 and 1/32. All top of the line brands. I wonder if they’d be interested in seeing them? I’m going to sell a bunch here soon. Love these kind of shops.
Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove, CA and Pegasus Hobbies in Montclair, CA used to be like this. But no more. They stopped carrying a lot of the aftermarket stuff.

Great shop! As far as the HO & N scale locomotives and cars, the model railroad industry went through a marketing strategy change a number of years ago. The manufacturers now announce what locos and cars they’re planning on releasing well in advance of the actual production, often more than a year ahead! If it’s something you’re interested in, you have to “reserve” how ever many you want, and then wait a year! Production runs are very limited, and if you don’t reserve what you want, you’ll likely never get one! The days of display cases stacked full of a wide variety of locomotives are long gone!

Awesome! I have at least 150 model aircraft kits. A mix of 1/48 and 1/32. All top of the line brands. I wonder if they’d be interested in seeing them? I’m going to sell a bunch here soon.

Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove, CA and Pegasus Hobbies in Montclair, CA used to be like this. But no more. They stopped carrying a lot of the aftermarket stuff.
I've always heard good things about Pegasus Hobbies, I have always wanted to go there.
