Pure nostalgia, this is man. No one can ever compare the feelings you get from hearing that PS1 Intro, and remembering your childhood, and the good times. Still glad I still have and play on my PS1, and PS2 till this day. Nothing will ever be like this, how I wish I could go back to the good old days. How time flies honestly. Let alone, next week on the 19th of April, I'll be 20. Still going strong in 2022, as I play these iconic PS1 games.
lmao 20? Dude the way you were talking I thought you were an adult, you are still a kid and still in the good times now. You will realise that when your turning 34/35 like others in the comments here lmao.
I live in small city of 15k people in Greece and luckily we had a video club that also had like 10 playstations and 4 nintendos 64 with big tvs. It literally had over 500 playstation 1 games. You could play whatever you wanted and the price was 300 drachmas for 1 hour, which is like 0,60 euro in today's standars, which is a really good deal in my opinion. I have so many memories of 4 player Goldeneye 64, Mario Kart, Twisted Metal 2, Red Alert, Mortal Kombat, International superstar soccer (that later became PES football), Resident evil and many other games. I think it was somewhere around 1997. Later they added 3 PCs with dialup connection and we played online for the first time with players from all over the world. Starcraft brood war. However the computer price was very expensive , something like 4-5 euros for 1 hour.
also here in the Philippines.. not every household owns a ps1 . so anyone who has money to buy & empty spaces on their house can open up a video game place. 20 pesos per hour. and seeing other kids having good times even when they are just watching you play is such a happy memory. Even those who own a PS1 chose to play outside.
I just love how you could walk into gamestop and have a hard time choosing what game you wanna get that day. The game’s selection were that good back in the ps1 and ps2 era. Ps1 was just something else and a definite classic
Fun fact: The main reason for the fog in silent hill was to hide the low draw distance... A lot of games had to work around this problem... This is compounded by the ps1 lacking hardware polygon sorting. It was up to the developers to tell the hardware what polygons to draw in what order. One interesting solution to both this and culling, is in the old crash bandicoot games: each level had presorted lists of polygons to draw at any given point along a level. It used more disc space, but ended up helping the lush graphics of the crash games really shine at the time...

I appreciate the focus on how important Tomb Raider was at the time, it really catapulted the concept of 3D gaming to branch outside of shooters and racing games and into the world of platforming. And the trilogy is still so fun to this day. Really excited for the remasters announcement for that trilogy ❤

I want to disagree with the assertion that PS2 and PS3 consoles can play PS1 games, mainly due to some issues I've run into in the past with trying to do just that. On the PS2, there was this issue where sometimes the PS1 games wouldn't play at all, and those that did play on it had a tendency to corrupt memory cards when saved through the PS2. As for the PS3, I found the aspect ratios were stretched and squashed, and similar to my PS2 experience, the save files would frequently get corrupted. The PS2 models I've had so far have been SCPH-15000, SCPH-39001(refurbished) and SCPH-70000, and the PS3 model I own and still have to this day is CECH-3001B. That said, I know that not everybody's experience will be the same, and perhaps mine is a rare case of repeated mishaps that have lead me to mistrust the act of combining PS1 games with PS2/3 hardware. If people would still rather play that way, I'm all for it! Just be aware that there is a greater chance of mishap that way. That's all I have to say. Great video! This was very entertaining!
I completely agree. I would also like to add that the PlayStation 3 doesn't play the PlayStation games out their native resolution. They run at 480i which they end up looking blurry compared to how they originally did on the hardware As games were made to run at 240p
PS2 slim also has a top loader for CDs (and DVDs). I know it's a revision, but it can still count :D Also, first iteration of PS1 console SPCH1002 has more connectors from the back (red, white and yellow) and the best soundchip - so many turn their consoles into hi fi systems. If you ever want to tackle this theme again, there is so much stuff to talk about.. Otherwise, great video! ;)

minor add-on point, before the first DualShock controller there was a 'dual analog' controller which had only 1 rumble motor in the Japanese version and didn't have any rumble motors in the west. It also had slightly longer grips than the DualShock / DualShock 2 controllers. The dual analog also had inverted joystick caps more like modern controllers instead of the bubble shaped caps that we got on the DualShock, DS2 and DS3.

The best reasons to own a ps1 in 2022 according to me. 1) easier to work on compared to a ps2 or ps3 if the laser goes bad if you’re using physical discs. Just 6 screws and a ribbon and you’ve pretty much replaced a laser on a ps1. 2) the lower resolution makes the visuals look softer and hides more of the ps1s visual flaws, especially on games with pre rendered backgrounds like Resident Evil. Its more of an upside if you’re playing on a smaller tv though, cant really say the same for playing on a big flatscreen 3) less input lag. Playing ps1 games on a ps3 tends to have a noticeable amount of input lag for some reason. Cant say the same for original hardware. So if you are desperate to play Parappa, an original ps1 might be the least frustrating option
That second point goes like, quadruple if you're trying to run a modded PS1 with HDMI out (or emulating it with an upscaled resolution). Man, PS1 games do not look good when they're "clean". They work best on an old, mildly blurry, scanline filled, curved CRT.
I wasnt big into video games , until a 1994 Sega Genesis console was in a shared apt with 3 other guys. Mortal Kombat was the onky game 🎮 i remember playing then. I was a great stress relief after working on a tedious laboratory for 9 hours. Then came the Sony Play Station 1 in later on 1997/98., it was a heck of improvement in graphics display, especially playing Tiger Woods 99, oddworld: Abes Oddessy, Bassmasters, and Duke Nukem Atomic age i sold the console after 4 years 😢 with those games in 2002. Still miss it now and then.
I wish I had my ps1 today…wish I never sold it but I still play the ps2 today.. playing it more the next gen system ngl.. I have a good game list for anyone is interested to for that system
I once made a video of a PS1 controller working on a PS3 and someone commented that it was fake because the PS1 controller doesn't have analog sticks. Turns out the launch controllers don't have analog sticks.
Just a quick correction: Not all Playstation 2's or PS3's will play original Playstation games. I know this because I own one of them; a game called Poy Poy 2. I had to buy an original Playstation just to play it again. You can find a list of Playstation games which can't be played on PS2's or PS3's (I'd link to the websites but my comment would be removed as spam). Nice video anyway, I got my Playstation from Christmas in 96 and was actually one of the first kids in my school to get one (they were still expensive here in the UK at that time).
The ps1 was a true revolution in the game scene of 90s.until then,we had sega mega drive and snes with big and stupid cartridges. And baaaang!!!Sony released ps1 and the kids were absolutely speechless...todays gamers cannot realize the impact of ps1 because the worst console they've seen is ps3...Respect for the daddy!!!God I miss childhood
I would just like to correct the console you have showing on the video is not a PlayStation one it's a PlayStation PlayStation one was a white small unit more curved sides... I don't know why everybody gets this wrong I think it's because it was the first PlayStation... PlayStation in my opinion was more superior to the PlayStation one as if you get hold of a PlayStation and put a empty memory card into it you can pull back every single game data thats ever been played on it... so smart bunnies/ love the video... we are keeping the art alive👍
The dual shock 1 controller became legendary after they gave it dual thumbs ticks which were super grippy and durable. The ps2 ds2 controller had better paint where it had a flake effect to it and was just as durable. They cmqde the controllers cheaper and less colorful as time went on. I hate the ds4 and ds5 thumbsticks. The convex design was superior for me.
I love the PS3 controller. The only thing I don't like about is the plastic feels cheaper than the others. The DS4 controller is by far the worse. The DS5 could've been better if they designed the joysticks differently. They don't match the overall design imo
To me the ps1 -3 were the same controller. The short handles cramped my hands. The ds4 and ps5 controller are major improvements. But I still prefer the Xbox placement of joysticks. Even the wiiu placements are more comfortable. I hate having to bend my thumbs down uncomfortably to the middle of the controller for the sticks on a PlayStation controller
Whilst I doubt this will even get read, I'm gonna try and give you some feedback from a viewers perspective: 1. Talking over a completely black screen when not for some sort of dramatic effect feels off somehow. 2. Your pacing is all over the place. When you're speaking in one take, there a good few points where your natural rhythm shines through, and it feels intentional and allows the content a chance to breathe. 3. Seeing as you're halfway there, how about using some categories? This would allow you to group facts. Lastly, as most facts are pretty much copy and pasted from Wikipedia, or other videos, if you're going to stand out, it would require you to either find new facts, or the talk about your opinion or experience with said fact. You have BAGS of potential to be up there with the best video essay channels, good clear voice, clearly know how to edit, all that's left is a bit of polish and your view count will be going off like a frog in a sock.
just bought a collection today, 60$ for the console (9001), a dual shock controller, and 17 games that included monopoly, life, soul blade, south park rally, gran turismo 2, test drive 4 and 5, need for speed(2 i dont rememeber which this is all off the tops of my head) star wars episode 1, and a few other games. Ps2 is a better system to invest in but im collecting retro games, and 60 for that collection is better than roughly 200-250 for a ps2 collection currently
Great video! How reliable overall and overtime is the launch PS1(SCPH-5501).? I bought it on launch day in the 90s and was great. Then haven't owned it in so long, until this past week I bought one in mint condition. I hear alot of good things about it except The laser in the disc reader can sometimes not read disks over time or give up. But I heard the same issues for PSone model as well. As for hardware, it has great performance and no heating issues. It's a great classic console!
I kinda have a problem The screen is black and white. Why ? How can I fix that ! The game is black and white I just got it, is it because it’s used or ? A year later and no one decided to help. Thanks
The Playstation logo on ps1 games is out right ear gasmic. I realized that it's on the cd and not the console when I played ps1 games on the ps3 and ps2. I cry every time I hear it.
Not to brag, but me and my family had all the PlayStations, not the smaller ones, but not any other game system, I just don’t know if we actually have or had the 2nd one- But my top 3rd/2nd one, from experience, is the PS1
CORRECTION!!!!!! The PS1 CPU clock speed is 33mhz or 34 rounded, not 39! Google - The main microprocessor is a 32-bit LSI R3000 CPU with a clock rate of 33.86 MHz and 30 MIPS. Its CPU relies heavily on the "cop2" 3D and matrix math coprocessor on the same die to provide the necessary speed to render complex 3D graphics
My brother has had his PS1 since 98 he has never had any other console just a PS1 and still plays his exact same 12 games he has had since 98. He mostly plays though legend of dragoon his all time favourite game but the 1st disc has nearly rotten away from all the use. I have actually gotten him a super slim PS3 500gb and have put HEN on it and I have put isos of all his games on the HDD I'm gonna give it to him this Christmas so he doesn't need to keep using his rough discs and horrible shape Ps1 anymore I'm also going to give him some PS3 games so he can play something new for once.
Why aren't these sold new anymore? If I had a lot of money I would figure out a way to manufacture play station 1 consoles and sell them. That would probably be a good business.
No reason to own a PS1 in 2022? I'd say there's a lot of reason to own it:) Didn't age well? It's all a matter of perspective. Having said that, I really enjoyed the video, especially the history of PS1.
I used to have more discs for ps1 until my home was invaded by terrorist and everything were lost and I couldn’t get ps1 only ps2 but I gave it to Aunty cause there is no same wires for tv it’s just different.
In truth, PS3 cannot play every PS1 game. There are a few that won't do anything once you reach the start menu (I've had this issue with Greatest Hits versions of Tomb Raider, as well as with Swagman). Some games have really bad sound glitches. I think there are some issues with PS2 as well, but usually, if it won't work on one, it will on the other.
Ps2 seems to be for the most part consistent with every ps1 game that i have played. And i have tried a few hundred including some pal and Japanese games. Only game that had a issue that i can think of was MK Trilogy where once you beat the game with a character it black screens. Really the best thing about owning a ps1 is getting that startup when you boot up a game. The ps2 cuts off alot of the ps1 intro sadly.
Thats true I have a ps3 super slim model incompatible with ps2 but ps1 games could be played and when I played destructions Derby 2 the gameplay was OK and so was the car sound effect but the menu screen made a scratching weird error like noise
The other two I remember having issues with on PS3 were Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time (sound) & the original Broken Sword (extreme frame rate drop to the point of unplayability). Broken Sword 1 is fine on PS2, but I think Bugs Bunny is one of the rare titles that has minor issues on both.
Is it worth buying today? I mean....I dunno. It's a hard one. For me, I grew up with the PS1. Well, I grew up starting with NES, but you know what I mean. PS1 was my absolute jam. I can go back, now, in almost 2023....and have a ton of fun just playing PS1 games all day. Crash Bandicoot, CTR, Spyro, MGS, Gran Turismo, Tomba, Tomb Raider, Tony Hawk, Resident Evil, a handful of good Disney games, Doom, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and so many others. But here's the thing. The Playstation 1 generation didn't exactly age well. Let's face it, if you aren't blinded by nostalgia, and look at the games, most of them kinda look like crap. They fall into that in-between, where they're not quite as nice and clean as pixel art games can be on the 16 bit generation, and not as high quality as PS2 and later generations. It's a weird in-between where everything still kinda looked janky. Where they were still learning how to make 3D games, and it was early enough in the technology that everything still looks like a blocky mess most of the time. I love it, but like I said, I grew up with it. It's 90% nostalgia for me. On top of that, as good as the games are to me...there's gonna be a learning curve for a lot of games if someone's new to the console. Things aren't quite as smooth, or as well thought out as they are today, when it comes to gameplay and controls. Not every game is an issue, but a lot of games take some getting used to. After all, it was still fairly early on for 3D gaming. So, like. If you're nostalgic for the console, or you know for a fact that you can enjoy plenty of jank and iffy graphics and learning how games work. Then you'll probably like it. But if you're completely new to the console, and you come from modern PS5s and Xbox Series consoles, I'm not entirely sure you'd have a great time with it. And really, as much as I love the console, a lot of the great well known games on the PS1, have modern counterparts. Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, HD remakes of Crash, Spyro, and CTR, the modern Tomb Raider trilogy, Resident Evil 4-8 and the 2 and 3 remakes, the modern Doom reboots, Final Fantasy X, X-2, 12, 13, and 15, plus the Final Fantasy 7 remake. Are there a lot of good PS1 exclusive games? Yes. But they come with that classic PS1 jankyness that I don't know if new players would really be fond of. It'd be like growing up with PS1, then trying to go back and play some Atari 2600.
For me ps1 have the best start up ever
100%.
Ps2 is a good contender
For me its Dreamcast
For me the sounds freaks me and scares becuase it's creppy with those sounds in the background.

You can buy one again 🎉❤
And now i go buy one. Thanks!
What I remember the most regarding the PS1 was the massive game library.
My PS1 has a mod chip in it that was done in like 1999 or 2000 and it still works very well.
I once made a video of a PS1 controller working on a PS3 and someone commented that it was fake because the PS1 controller doesn't have analog sticks. Turns out the launch controllers don't have analog sticks.
How can this video be 3 yrs old when 2023 was last year??
Great video!
Found an unopened Play Station 1 console at Amazon on the Stow Floor. What a trip...
😊❤🎉Good job Nathan.
I recently bought one.... Where can I find the power cord and connector for video?
my dad had PlayStation 1 when he was college student
I would just like to correct the console you have showing on the video is not a PlayStation one it's a PlayStation PlayStation one was a white small unit more curved sides... I don't know why everybody gets this wrong I think it's because it was the first PlayStation... PlayStation in my opinion was more superior to the PlayStation one as if you get hold of a PlayStation and put a empty memory card into it you can pull back every single game data thats ever been played on it... so smart bunnies/ love the video... we are keeping the art alive👍
Pls make video about how you edited you all videos
Sure, it would be fun!
Thanks man you are the best
Just put a extender on the sticks bud, bam! Instant Ds1 control lol
Deathtrap Dungeons and Broken Helix were one of the creepiest games during my childhood gaming days.
Whilst I doubt this will even get read, I'm gonna try and give you some feedback from a viewers perspective:
I just bought a ps1 and I'm so exited I can't sleep
omg my mum said she had a ps1 back when she was younger in the Philippines, she played silent hill and she described it gave her the creeps😮
Buying this again I regret trading mine in years ago
just bought a collection today, 60$ for the console (9001), a dual shock controller, and 17 games that included monopoly, life, soul blade, south park rally, gran turismo 2, test drive 4 and 5, need for speed(2 i dont rememeber which this is all off the tops of my head) star wars episode 1, and a few other games.
I still have my receipt from 1998 when my mom got me the ps1 for my birthday
CPU was 33.8688 MHz
the most charming console ever made 👍👍👍👍
PlayStation 1. 1998 looks cool
I love PS1 I still have slim model and classic but my PS1 disc tray doesn't work
I kinda have a problem
The screen is black and white. Why ? How can I fix that !
The game is black and white
I just got it, is it because it’s used or ?
A year later and no one decided to help. Thanks
Video keeps cutting out for me :(
The Playstation logo on ps1 games is out right ear gasmic. I realized that it's on the cd and not the console when I played ps1 games on the ps3 and ps2. I cry every time I hear it.
how can I play a PS1 on a modern TV?
Can I use some of your footage for a video? I just want a good stock footage with PS1 and can't find it. I don't want youtube to block me :/
May someone help me find a site that sells the Playstation 1 consoles for under $50 (just like he said in the video)?
As well as a top loading cd drive
Just bought one for 20$ dollars at flea market man I hope it works with two controllers and one game cross fingers it works lol
I'm looking at my original 7/1997 PlayStation right now.
That PS1, is the reason why so angry about my Dad, four years earlier he threw it away, and never get to see it again 😡
Not to brag, but me and my family had all the PlayStations, not the smaller ones, but not any other game system, I just don’t know if we actually have or had the 2nd one-
But my top 3rd/2nd one, from experience, is the PS1
I never experienced ps1 or ps2 as a kid me being born in 2005 my first and only playstation was the psp from 2011
2005 lol so you're 17.. Rip you missed out 😂
I still play Spyro and crash on the ps1 at least once a week
Like you do not understand how autistic i am over Spyro
You could of cleaned the crud off your PlayStation before filming!🤣
Dead AF😂😂
CPU was 33.9 not 39.9 :)
Why cant Nintendo just renegotiated or cancel the contract with Sony instead of go to Philips in secret?
CORRECTION!!!!!!
The PS1 CPU clock speed is 33mhz or 34 rounded, not 39!
Google -
The main microprocessor is a 32-bit LSI R3000 CPU with a clock rate of 33.86 MHz and 30 MIPS. Its CPU relies heavily on the "cop2" 3D and matrix math coprocessor on the same die to provide the necessary speed to render complex 3D graphics
Bro how many times will you say top loaded cd drive??😅
The one that started it all 💙
We came along way
My brother has had his PS1 since 98 he has never had any other console just a PS1 and still plays his exact same 12 games he has had since 98.
I wonder why this video isn't getting more views. Consistency of uploads is the key!
It will soon, besides my past two videos on the ps3 and ps2 are gaining so many views in about a couple of hours, I’m pretty sure they are blowing up.
What would it be like to play it in 2023?
Bro predicted everything in 2021 ☠️
A legendary ❤❤❤
Brought mine today
My favourite ps1 game is syphon filter 3
Love that series
I had that when I was 5 years old
I still have my dads ps1 2day
og playstation the goat.💪🐐
I like playing games on the original hardware
I play on a PS1 every day when I come home from school.
3/4 of the video has nothing to do with the video's title.
It's not actually the playstation one that's the playstation classic 1994 the playstation one was released in 2000 and it look a little bit different
My favourite game have jacky china
Outstanding game🥰🥰
