I got countless hours of fun from those psp's. Movies, music, gems like Dissidia and monster hunter. Ahhh the days of learning to homebrew. Good times. I'd but another one, I would... got no money though lol 😆
As a huge fan of the PSP it makes me happy to see people still recommend them in 2022. I still own my original Piano Black 1000 and God of War 2000 versions. They were WAY ahead of their time.
It's hands down the most impressive Christmas present I ever had as a kid, it felt futuristic to me when I got it, and was a source of many happy gaming memories.
i was an adult and got mine while i was in rehab/halfway house. it was really great to have it. psp is the only handheld to actually blow my mind. i couldnt believe i could use that thing and look at websites and listen to music, pop in a movie, then pop in a game, and do all that on the same device. truly ahead of its time.
The psp had so much potential and the graphics for its time was insane. This could’ve been a game changer. But I hate how Sony just gave up on it. Imagine using it with the ps5 now if it was updated.
@@spidey1809 lmao… how so? It’s capabilities are well beyond, was just poorly advertised and didn’t have enough games produced for it. Incredible console with a poor execution
@@spidey1809 The Vita was BETTER than a PSP....technically speaking. It had some great games, it had a touch screen and back touch pad that were used surprisingly well in a lot of games, it had a second analog stick, and it had a bigger screen. The biggest issues the Vita had were it's crappy marketing (I mean hell, I didn't even realize the Vita was it's own console until a few years ago. I always thought it was just another PSP Go situation). It's dumb proprietary, and expensive memory cards. And the fact the Sony dropped it entirely too soon. Add to all that, that nowadays we have CFW on it. With the Adrenaline app, you pretty much have an entire PSP built into the Vita, home screen XMB, psp plugins, and all. All the games (PSP and PS1), from my understanding and from what I've played, work and run nearly identically to how they ran on an original PSP, except now you can play 'em on a bigger screen. Some games even have plugins to take advantage of the right analog, and the ones that don't, can use a Vita plugin to remap camera movement controls (like using L and R to rotate) to the right analog. There's literally no reason to buy a PSP instead of a Vita in 2023, outside of nostalgia. And to add even more to all of that, with CFW, people are STILL making stuff for the Vita today. Pretty regularly releasing ports of Android games and decomps, making new homebrew apps and plugins, updating existing apps and plugins. Like, the Vita is a REALLY good handheld that just happened to get shafted by Sony.
I remember being 5-9 years old and I took my PSP everywhere with me. I loved it so much. I had a Nintendo DS and a Game Boy Advance. I wish i could climb through a window and go back in time to this era one last time.
Growing up as a kid my parents really starved me off any of this stuff. Watching my classmates play with their is about the first time the little me learnt what is envy. Now in 2022, twenty years later, I finally had my own. And wow the excitement did not fade.
I don’t know the story of your parents, but I have two kids now and let me tell you as much as I would like to buy them video games, toys, it can be difficult when you don’t make a lot of money and children will NEVER be able to understand that because all they think about is how cool the toys are, and never how hard the parent has to work. Nothing is black-and-white in the world there’s always a reason for both sides to be the way they are and if your parents didn’t buy it, I can only assume part of it was because they didn’t think it was necessary, but they at least give you other things that were, this is just my opinion based on my experience in the experience of my family, for all, I know your parents could actually be evil people according to you
@@IRLSuperb get your kids a freaking iPad Pro used for like 400 bucks and I can play any of the top mobile games on highest graphics if you can’t even afford a $400 gift then you need to work on managing your money better. Also to the guy whose parents didn’t buy him a PSB I’m really sorry to hear that my parents got me the PSP when it came out and I even got a $250 4 gigabyte memory card to go with it as well. PST was amazing you could even go on the Internet it was basically like a computer in your pocket it was amazing because you could also play video games multiplayer just like mobile games nowadays
The PSP was definitely the most fun I've ever had with any console. The homebrew scene during the 1.5-2.8 era was absolutely mind blowing. I bricked mine in the early days of custom firmware but then the pandora's battery/magic stick exploit was released a couple years later and brought it back from the dead. I still have that battery and memory stick with me today.
Hhehehe.... Very true!... I bricked my PSP-1000 which I loved SO MUCH!... I thought it was fucked forever, and I had to let it sit on a shelf for about 2 years.. Then, One day all my praying that finally been answered!! PANDORA memory card and a "modification" to the battery!. BAAAAM, I got it working again!! SO HAPPY!... I still have the very same PSP to this day!. One day I will buy one more PSP-1000 and put a raspberry in it.... :)
When the first PSP came out I could not believe how amazing it was. Such a small device can hold so much data. Graphics were amazing, add music, videos, themes, internet and battle other PSP users. I am still mad at them for not supporting the VITA better.
@Dr. Peach Guy the switch dosnt get alot of essential games, no gta 5, no red dead redemption.. thats what lets nintendo down, if they would get all games like the playstation does then i would agree but until then psp is still the winner imo. i own both
@Dr. Peach Guy yet the Switch continues to lack lots of heavy hitting modern games. The ones it does have are typically shitty cloud versions that crash after 5 minutes. That said, NieR: Automata is being treated right by being a native port. Now if the Switch Lite had a bigger and better screen than it has I'd get one, until then I'm sticking to my OLED (which is the closest to the original experience Somy was trying to sell with the Vita).
I grew up dirt poor but managed to get a PSP. That thing literally lifted me out of some dark times man. I didn’t have a phone, computer, etc. but I had my PSP and that was a big deal.
Ive been playing games on my psp for well over 10 years now without any problems and it still is a lot of fun. Im very grateful for keeping it as it gives me a strong sense of nostalgia everytime i turn it on. My favorite games which i recommend you to look for are GTA vice city stories and liberty city stories, Assassin's creed bloodlines, God of War Chains of Olympus, Flatout, Tekken 6, Manhunt 2, SSX On tour and theres probably much more i forgot to mention and some i never got chance to play. If you can find a psp in a good condition you should definetly go for it and buy one.
I loved my psp to death while growing up. Not only did you have the psps awesome library, but it could emulate older console's as well. That's why I'm excited for the Steam deck. It won't fit in your pocket, but it will have by far the largest gaming library on a portable device. I hope they make smaller variants in the future. :)
Take that same argument, toss on a left Thumbsticks, an OLED Touchscree, an entire next-gen library (coof Vita) and, in short you can keep your PSP. I love my Vita more.
@@Ichijoe2112 I own a Vita as well. But I mainly used it to play psp games. I dont like the over priced proprietary memory cards. You can hack it, and use a Micro SD card adapter, But it's annoying to set up. I actually Use my android phone to play psp, and gamecube games in higher resolution now. If you have a powerful phone, I recommend the ''Gamesir X2 USB type C'' android controller.
Yeah that steam deck looks huge. Not exactly my idea of portable. Like, technically it is a handheld....technically. My switch already barely fits into my daily camera bag without a case of any sort. The deck would weigh a lot more and I don't think it would fit at all. I'd have to go up an entire bag size (buy a new 350 dollar camera bag because I only like this particular model) and that would nearly double the cost of the deck for me if I wanted to use it the way I use my switch on my daily commute or while traveling.
When the pandemic hit, handhelds were something I became interested in. I picked up a PSP Go and I love it. Small, pocketable, and a pretty cool form-factor. And with homebrew, you could play even more games from different systems. Definitely one of my favorites and I’m so glad people are talking about it
Love it stuck in doors during lockdown due to the pandemic and your mind wants portable on the go devices hahaha i was the same stuck in during lockdown but bought car parts but knowhere to drive hahaha
Hey bro, I used to have a PSP go too and it was amazing! But just be careful because they're prone to breaking due to the sliding component it's made with. The video ribbon cables can snap on you one day, so if you're ever wondering why your video input doesn't work but it appears to be in fine condition remember this comment. I miss my PSP go so much but in it's place I got a PS Vita with adrenaline being used to play PSP games, it's awesome!
@@user-yk1cw8im4h I'm sorry where you in a different lock down where everything wasn't shut and where told to leave the house for drives you couldn't even leave your town fool
The same thing happened to me aswell to be honest I love the psp when I was a kid back then and that nostalgia hit during the lockdowns in 2020 it still a great handheld system and it has the best titles to this day!
That psp was AMAZING for its time. Most People didn’t even know all the stuff it could do. Remote play was so under reported on. With the ps eye on my os3 I could look into my living room while at work.
Even with all the modern emulation handhelds coming out recently, I still think the PSP Go is the ultimate handheld for emulation. Not only can it do anything from GBA and older, but it runs PS1 games natively and you get the whole catalog of PSP games. It has a gorgeous screen even today, the buttons are just perfect in my opinion, and the analog stick is a pretty nice too. And the PSP Go is so perfectly portable. About the size of a smartphone with a case on it.
Honestly when I was younger the PSP was the best thing i owned. I successfully homebrewed it and was able to download the game ISO files and was playing some Monster Hunter with some friends. I loved the wireless co-op gaming. Really was ahead of its time. Today Android phones can do the same thing + more but they just dont have the ergonomics of the PSP
I just bought my first PSP a few weeks ago. I got lucky and found a used one for only 25$, and even luckier, it turned out that it was modded and had a pre-installed library of hundreds of classic NES and Gameboy Advance Games.
As a PSP lover, I can confirm that this is one of the channels that actually has sense. I have a PSP 3000, and it is one of the finest gadgets for its generation. I still play on it today.
I regret selling my PSP 1000 back in 2014 to 2015. I didn't care about the library till years later, I started looking into the library and realized theres more games that I have never tried. Such an amazing handheld back then ; still is.
Bought a 1000 shortly after launch, sold it to pay for gas and a date back in high school then luckily got the silver 3000 for Christmas a few years later. Absolutely love it and still carry it daily. Lately I’ve taken to collecting UMDs. Awesome history lesson!
@@XXXXX8 maybe to you bro but some people find value in things others don’t. For example “ one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” applies to your mom too
@@davidguerrero5917 imagine finding sentimental value in fucking PSP umd. The worst format to watch anything on. You might as well collect GBA movies. Also, you're subscribed to worlstar hiphop. Nobody gives a shit what you say.
The PSP was and still is my favourite handheld. I still own the one I bought in 2005 or so. And it still works flawlessly even after hundreds and hundreds of hours of playing Monster Hunter, Disgaea and Valkyria (well except for that bloody corrupted data bug, but well...).
I bought mine by this time too, but it simply doesn't run anything any longer. The wi-fi connection is a joke and it barely reads the sd. I'm trying to find a way to fix it, but it's been an impossible task 😞 If you know any nice videos around, would you please recommend them to me?
@@FABCASTLE WiFi going to hell is the result of modern WiFi standards updating and rendering the protocols the PSP uses obsolete. The only way around that that I have found to work on a consistent basis is to get an Android phone that will allow you to make a hotspot without a password then connect your PSP to it. As for your memory stick not being able to be read, that could be one (or multiple) things between your memory stick and/or the reader itself. Iirc the memory stick reader isn't modular, so replacing one I'd leave as a last-ditch effort (personally I don't like soldering). I recommend testing your slot by getting a microSD to memory stick adapter and sticking it into your PSP to see if it recognizes it. Remember to use a tool like guiconfig to format the microSD to FAT32 so the PSP can at least see it (if it sees this and not your other card then copy all your data over to the new card and try it again).
Yup, I still have my original release version PSP. It still works perfect, and I mostly just use it now as a backup gaming system when the power goes out, and as a music player in my car. The only problem I had with it was a battery that refused to charge anymore, but once I replaced that battery, it worked fine again.
The PSP was the best console ever. It was amazing with home brew. Could get any game for free, emulate other consoles, even play any PS1 game. Having all that in the palm of your hand was unbeatable in the era that the PSP came out.
Had a blast with mine. Also shout-out to the modding and homebrew community for making this thing capable of doing pretty much anything. I even remember just using it as a wireless PC controller for a while because I didn't have one. good stuff
I actually have a modded Vita that can run Adrenaline which turns it into a better and faster PSP. All the wicked homebrew that comes with it as well. Not that the PSP is bad, I just feel the Vita can do all the things the PSP can and more. Awesome video thanks for the upload, was a great watch.
After 8 years, I still use my PSP just recently got it out of my safe box to play some JRTS/JRPG and I feel like I was 13, also it can emulate a lot of consoles, NES, SNES, PS1, GBA, GBand you also have the entire PSP library that in my opinion is totally worth.
I had a sky blue one from Japan that a dear friend bought for me as a gift, that thing went with me everywhere. Psp has one of the best libraries for rpg lovers imo, hands down. Love it.
Still have mine from 2008 it's in excellent condition and I use it almost every day. It really was the Walkman of the 21st century, way ahead of its time.
As many others have said: a modded PSP was really amazing device back in 2005. It was a lot better multimedia device than 2005 smartphones. Graphics were really impressive for handheld (many PSP games still look great). Physical design and and the UI are still nice as well. They don't look "aged".
I always wanted a psp when I was a kid but couldn't afford it now I hv bought ps5 with my own money and it feels soo good to finally own it. I wish everyone who dream of owning a Playstation gets it.
Great video. For anyone interested in a new battery that actually works, the Cameron Sino is by far the best. The "new old stock" Sony batteries online are fakes. Just a heads-up.
I probably have a fake one but I found out when my system was not in use for 2 weeks the battery would be completely drained but now that I take the battery out first the battery last for over a month with no power loss so that helps a lot with the battery draining too quickly any ways cheers..
Got a 1000 on release day in 2005. Still have it now, works flawlessly, put some CFW on it a few years back to really unlock its potential. Some of the games are simply outstanding even by todays standards. Great system to pick up and play when you have a bit of spare time.
My favorite game on PSP is FlatOut 2. Hands down, it was one of the most successful ports from PC to portable consoles - zero lags while playing, great graphics and controls, perfect combination!
PSP and PS Vita are my favorite handheld consoles. It's nostalgic and such a great system. Both of their library games are amazing and very enjoyable. Sorry for my english :)
I remember having a PSP 3000 series. Skype was a new thing so I wanted to try it. I think the joystick on the device is very revolutionary and should be used in Playstation controllers today and on going. I had Liberty City Stories, Tekken, and Midnight Club Dub Edition. I got a 80GB Playstation 3 about a week before the slim 120GB version was released. I really liked using the Playstation as a hub for a bigger monitor. I also liked using the psp as a controller but a lot of games I had didn’t support the psp as a controller. I also liked playing music while playing my game on the go. The small form factor was a bit worrisome because back then, you wasn’t cool anymore with a DS. I miss being with Playstation. I had every console accept the PS4…. which I may get considering I can’t get my hands on an Xbox Series X due to scalpers, and People are getting PS5 faster as well. We will see.
@@gamestopholdmusic or wait a few years til the PS5 stops relying on the PS4 back catalogue with its lacking original title lineup. the next gen launch was shit for that, you have next to no reason to upgrade apart from you have a shiny new system to play your OLD games.
i got a used ps4pro last year. I dont see much reason to spend over 4 times as much on a new ps5. The system is great, games are still releasing with barely any difference, its still being officiallly supported and the systems library is both vast and good with some of the best games ever made. Best bang for your buck right now no contest.
I still have my psp 2000( slim) and it still works. Although yesterday I ordered a new battery and charger. Easiest hand held console to hack. Only physical games I have are Socom Fireteam Brave 2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Madden 07, And others. I recently ordered another psp slim and in slight new condition for $130 😎👍🏻
I have one still in the box - never opened. I usually buy two of everything. One to be used for fun and the other to maintain resale value. Same with cars - I bought two corvettes - one for daily driving and the other for showcase and resale.
I still have this the only console I still have in 2022. I still love it and originally used it for games, movies, photos and music when I got it in 2004. Although my screen has a massive scratch I still play on it regularly and it runs just as smoothly as originally. Best game console I have owned.
@@lynneldridge7661 thank you for the suggestion. I didn’t really think of it as the scratch isn’t deep and you don’t really see it when actually playing the game. But will have to give it a thought now. 🙏
Its certainly one of the best portable consoles ever made, second only to the gameboy in my opinion. Ive had a slim and lite since new, hacked it last year for ps1 games. It continues to serve me well after more than a decade.
I had both the PSP and the DS. The DS was okay but I didn’t really care for it all that much. The PSP however was a game changer. I didn’t even care to play on the console until the ps3 was released a year later but before then I lived on the psp. Not just playing games but you legit browse the internet, go on RUclips, download music, it was a little handheld computer and what smartphones are today.
PSP was the first ever console and I still have it, and the first game I ever played is GTA: Vice City Stories. I didn't buy it, my uncle bought it at 2008 and gave it to me at 2015. It gave me memories of being addicted to it. Thank you.
Dude I still have my psp use at work people think I’m crazy but got another coworker to bring theirs too so now it’s like 5 of us lol we just basically have a community game and movie box to pass the day helps a ton!!
The PSP was definitely ahead of its time, and some of those games are STILL better than a lot of mobile games for Android or iOS. For example, Fight Night Round 3 on the PPSSPP emulator is by far the best boxing game you're gonna play on an Android unless you're using a cloud gaming service like Stadia or GeForce Now.
I bought a PSP1000 week one, yeah I know I'm old. The 1000 is a real chonker weight wise compared to the 2000, which I picked up because it had the added benefit of being able to plug into the TV via an RCA cable. So you could watch your UMD movies at DVD (well close) quality and you could play your games on a big screen (albeit letter boxed). The 2000 is a bit slippery compared to the 1000 due to its shiny finish but its got a better screen with less blur. The E1000 last model is probably the best for 2022 I'd say, no Wifi chip (but remote play was always poor), rear door for loading UMDs is a bit rubbish too and it doesn't plug into a TV. But its got a better 1000 style rough finish, and a much better screen than any previous models (PSP Go excepted). My son, age 10, regularly games on the E1000 I picked up for him a few years ago. PSP GO is lovely, but ergonomically flawed, screen is amazing, especially for 2009 tech.
Yes Sir !, still have my 1000 and my greatest achievement was finishing Ridge Racer ! (the first version), ahhh to see the ending of Ridge Racer is a sight to behold !
This is my favourite handheld. Still haven't tried a Vita, but until then, this is it. The store is closed but we can buy digital games from the PS3 and then access the store through the PSP and download them. 🙂 I had mine moded but now I wanted to try the official thing and bought some great games. There are only digital gems that deserve to be preserved.
Someone walked off with my PSP. I considered getting another one, but I decided to upgrade to a Vita. Does everything the PSP can do and more. Adrenaline homebrew program turns your Vita into a fully functional PSP. You add insane homebrew ports on top of everything (GTA Trilogy, Max Payne, Bully, etc..) and you've got no reason not to pick one up.
I loved my PSP. You would have thought companies like Microsoft would have came out with a portable system. With todays tech a modern psp would be awesome.
I had a PSP when I was a teen. This was when web streaming services like RUclips were in their infancy and services like Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+ weren't even a thought yet and videos were not easily accessed via portable devices over the web due to them just not having the software capabilities. Yes it served me well as a Gaming Platform but my primary use of it was browsing the internet. It was a basic pocket sized computer. Actually it was the only access to the internet I had. We weren't a family who was able to afford to have a computer. I also used it as a portable media player loading my favorite music onto the Memory Sticks and sometimes a movie file. They were great handhelds that served a lot of uses whereas other handhelds at the time were very basic and solely was gaming only as the best offering.
Great little handheld, I still have mine. The only thing I would change is the analogue stick, great though it is I'd put it at the top of the console face rather than the bottom. Other than that it's great, especially for emulation
Had such a blast on my PSP 1000, Playing GTA multiplayer over direct WIFI, the CFW was a game changer too, a constant cat and mouse game between Sony and hackers. The homebrew community was also awesome, I even had a little Silverlit RC helicopter that I could control using the IR blaster, as well as use it as a remote for the TV. It's also the first media device I had and used it as an MP3 player and watched movies on it. It's such a versatile device and way ahead of it's time. I still have it to this day and would never get rid of it! Good times!
I still have my psp 1000 black, around 20 games for it. Been in the hospital alot so got a new battery and take it with me in the hospital, still fun to play!
The was an amazing handheld for its time with a solid catalog and even better after homebrew. It's a shame vita did not get the same support, but as much as I love the psp I would recommend the vita to those interested.
Huge fan of the PSP back in the day. Just came across my old one a few months ago. 'Virgin 1.5 Firmware' never upgraded. Played more emulated stuff than I did purchased games.
Watching few of the people recommending this in 2022 kinda makes me happy. Owning one back in 2012 reminds me of my friends hurriedly running from school just to play the game Tekken.
I gotta say it was one hell of a unit back then, I was blown away being able to watch clear videos and internet browsing. It felt wild being able to connect to wifi and go on the internet
Remember playing the absolute crap out of a PSP when I finally got one in 2007. By that point custom firmwares and ROMS were a thing, I had a huge library of games and movies and such. Honestly wish Sony would bring back the PSP I'd buy one it was the switch before the switch
@@nrgonline I got one a few years later but yea CFW and roms were so much fun was great to have not only all the PSP games but also SNES, NES etc in my pocket. Tons of fun was had.

I remember 8-9 years ago when I got it I was mindblown! I could play computer level games on it! Like God of War, FIFA, some Naruto fighting game. The sound system was clear and loud, way better than even some modern phones. Battery that holds for 5 hours in an intense gaming! psp 2000 and gba sp are my 2 favorite handhelds. cfw really unlock the psp full potential and intended purpose because lets be honest, most kids and even adults couldn't afford all the games and movies. i really wish ebay memory stick pro duo adapter was more sturdy and didnt break every couple of times i remove the flash memory
Just purchased a PSP 2000, I’ve never really owned a Sony gaming product of this type. Grew up around the Nintendo DS family, and I’ve owned a series X for almost a year now. Wanted to try out the PSP because I always wanted one as a kid, and finally came around to get one. Any recommendations for it? I’ve heard homebrew is almost a must, but wanted to get any opinions or game suggestions.
I just found my three kids psp , they had forgotten about them all ready. Got three now, will keep it for our grandkids. Don’t forget the mods by Dark Alex back I the day. Thank you for the video.
So glad it is still appreciated, Japan do wonders with refurbished tech so if you’re looking for one they never disappoint. As much I adore my 2003 series the e1000 allows for thousands of games to be played on the go. Bring back this tech, nostalgia.
I still have my 1000 today and occasionally get it out to mess around with. Loving the ability to emulate older systems. Having most famous games from the Playstation on the go is legendary!
My mom bought me the ps vita when I was 12, she waited at gamestop at 12am to buy one of a limited number that was available. One of the best gaming consoles i have ever owned. Countless hours on it and gaming on the go was just an added feature. I sold it a year later to buy a skateboard. This video has me wanting to buy it again. Definitely ahead of its time.
Convinced my parents to buy me one as a kid and it was so much fun it's still circulating amongst my cousins. I don't even know which one has it anymore, but I know they're enjoying it.
I can only say thank you for making this video, so much nostalgia I got from your video, and what an amazing device it was, still own mine and I love it ❤️
I actually brought my 2005 psp on a European road trip this year just played vice city stories but still I was shocked that it still worked and held charge so well
Should do a PS vita next, it does everything a PSP can do with PS VIta, SNES, GBA, N64, Android Ports and some really cool plugins like Overclocking the CPU to 500MHz and Display out through the USB (all assuming its a Modded PS vita with SD2Vita). PS VITA is my absolute favorite console of all time. (specifically the 3g model)
S0NY have proven that they don't have a clue about either handhelds, or as of late Virtual Reality. Which really has me scratching my arse as to the announcement of a new PSV-VR for the PSV (e.g. The PSQuint). The first PSP was abandoned shortly after launch because the PS Tribble was in such an unfit state, note the Failbox 360 had already been out for some time. So most of what we saw here in Europe was Movie, and Audio Discs for the Vita, and the odd Game for 60€, when they should have been more like 40€ max! Which is exactly why the PSP failed here, and also why the Vita died almost the same day it landed here. Nevermind the special Memory Cards needed to actually use the retched thing. The only ones more upset about that, were the ones who either never heard of the PSP, or never had one, to care. That said the there is no need for a Vita2 electric boogaloo as the old Vita can already do all of this, plus PSP, and everything that could do as well. If I needed better than the sad answer is to get a Switch. Which I might yet do at some point.
@@aqwsderxz But, your PSP can't play Vita Games. My Vita however can run Adrenaline, which means my Vita by proxy does EVERYTHING your PSP can, and as a rule.... Better.
Oh man this brings me back, its almost like I completely forgot about the hundreds of hours I put into Madden 08, Need for Speed, GTA, Medal of Honor, Ratchet and Clank, Thrillvile. What a time of my life, I'm 23 now and boy do I miss that.
Psp is probably my all time favourite console, mostly because it introduced me to modding. I loved the console, but once I hacked my 1000 it opened up a whole new world to me. Not only could I now play all my favorite old games, I was totally hooked on modding. There's something totally exhilarating about making a console do something it wasn't meant to, with that little risk of bricking your console in the back of your mind. It's addictive.
Wish I grew up with the PSP... The device looks incredible! I was so late when it came to these devices. By the time I got my hands on hand held devices like the Nintendo DSI and the Nintendo 3DS, it was far past its glory days and slowly coming closer to the plug being pulled for the the online and server features. Never owned a PSP but these older hand held devices regardless still seem to pack a punch in there own ways and games even till today.
I had to change the battery a few years ago.. But other than that it’s not much different than when it was brand new.. I got it simply for Sid Meiers Pirates which I used to play on my computer when I was a kid..
The PSP is great for gaming especially if you jailbreak it. It runs a lot of retro consoles. Love it. It's a great buy even to this day but if you can buy a vita it would be better. The PSVita can do all what the PSP can do (except play UMD disc) and play Vita games too.
@@PaperChase04 if you want to play Vita games too then PSVITA is the better choice but if all you want is to play PSP and PS1 only then buy any PSP model.

You right that‘s why I modified my old vita
I got countless hours of fun from those psp's. Movies, music, gems like Dissidia and monster hunter. Ahhh the days of learning to homebrew. Good times. I'd but another one, I would... got no money though lol 😆
So stupid how many ps2 games and psp games weren’t on the ps3
As a huge fan of the PSP it makes me happy to see people still recommend them in 2022. I still own my original Piano Black 1000 and God of War 2000 versions. They were WAY ahead of their time.
I remember god of war on psp!
I broke my original 1000. Went to the store to buy another one and they had 3000 models. I still have it.
Nice, Have my God of War edition also! Spent so much time on Monster Hunter Freedom Unite!
Still have my GOW PSP but it’s needs a new battery
me too!
It's hands down the most impressive Christmas present I ever had as a kid, it felt futuristic to me when I got it, and was a source of many happy gaming memories.
Fr my dad got it for me on my 5th birthday. I was so happy dawg.
🙌
How did it last
i was an adult and got mine while i was in rehab/halfway house. it was really great to have it. psp is the only handheld to actually blow my mind. i couldnt believe i could use that thing and look at websites and listen to music, pop in a movie, then pop in a game, and do all that on the same device. truly ahead of its time.
Lol mine was an escort cosworth
The psp had so much potential and the graphics for its time was insane. This could’ve been a game changer. But I hate how Sony just gave up on it. Imagine using it with the ps5 now if it was updated.
U do realise that the ps vita exists right?
@@toffy7598Yeah but the vita is not as good as the PSP
@@spidey1809 if you get *Adrenaline* you literally can turn the vita with better screen and processing speed into a psp
The PSP was such a monumental step forward in gaming its almost hard to believe it was released that far back.
I remember being 5-9 years old and I took my PSP everywhere with me. I loved it so much. I had a Nintendo DS and a Game Boy Advance. I wish i could climb through a window and go back in time to this era one last time.
Man, just one more time.
Nothing is black-and-white in the world there’s always a reason for both sides to be the way they are and if your parents didn’t buy it, I can only assume part of it was because they didn’t think it was necessary, but they at least give you other things that were, this is just my opinion based on my experience in the experience of my family, for all, I know your parents could actually be evil people according to you
@@IRLSuperb its just parent
@@IRLSuperb get your kids a freaking iPad Pro used for like 400 bucks and I can play any of the top mobile games on highest graphics if you can’t even afford a $400 gift then you need to work on managing your money better.

Still have my Pandora battery and Magic Memory stick too.
@@chadwickhell you
I got even luckier, since i picked up a later model, which dispensed with all the gymnicks and could be hacked with a simple software "update".
It was so crazy it seemed criminal even before jail breaking of the first iPod touch
When the first PSP came out I could not believe how amazing it was. Such a small device can hold so much data. Graphics were amazing, add music, videos, themes, internet and battle other PSP users. I am still mad at them for not supporting the VITA better.
@Dr. Peach Guy Steam deck? Absolutely but the nintendo switch is no where as revolutionary as the psp
@Dr. Peach Guy you just included the switch because you are a nintendo guy lol.
@Dr. Peach Guy Yeah but it doesn't even come close to the multimedia capabilities of the PSP and PSVita
@@Whatsup_Abroad Every Steam Deck model comes with a carrying case. :)
The problem with the Steam Deck is that you have to have Internet access to use it to play games.

Man, watching this vid made me wanna dig out my PSP from my closet. I still have the UMDs!
I still have my psp street from like 2012 or so and i loved it.

The psp was way before it’s time man.
Good times!
It's a legendary device still now!!

I gotta say it was one hell of a unit back then, I was blown away being able to watch clear videos and internet browsing. It felt wild being able to connect to wifi and go on the internet

@@LG-ro5le yea it was a pretty well established scene by then. Some good times were had.
Ugh. Jail breaking them was popular right when they came out. I remember playing snes Roms on it in 2005.
@@nrgonline I got one a few years later but yea CFW and roms were so much fun was great to have not only all the PSP games but also SNES, NES etc in my pocket. Tons of fun was had.
PSP is the greatest handheld of all Time. S tier handheld. System was ahead of it's time. I had some of my best and most memorable gaming years and moments on the PSP
I remember 8-9 years ago when I got it I was mindblown! I could play computer level games on it! Like God of War, FIFA, some Naruto fighting game. The sound system was clear and loud, way better than even some modern phones. Battery that holds for 5 hours in an intense gaming! Damn even laptops couldn't keep up with that) Oh and it never crashed , like NEVER!
In the end it left pretty warm and fun experience. Thanks for rekindling those memories💓
Ever since it 1st came out, it was my dream portable console on the go. Didnt getbit then, but just ordered one and I'm super excited! This portable gaming console was truly ahead of it's time.
psp 2000 and gba sp are my 2 favorite handhelds.
cfw really unlock the psp full potential and intended purpose because lets be honest, most kids and even adults couldn't afford all the games and movies.
i really wish ebay memory stick pro duo adapter was more sturdy and didnt break every couple of times i remove the flash memory
Nintendo only cares about mario / pokemon
I just found my three kids psp , they had forgotten about them all ready. Got three now, will keep it for our grandkids. Don’t forget the mods by Dark Alex back I the day. Thank you for the video.
Me and my brother had some good times playing Monster Hunter on PSP. Those were the days.
Great video as always my man! Keep up the good work!
5:45, actually, in a remote play, you could only play a very limited title from ps3, not AAA title, but ps vita does
I remember my aunt bought me a psp 3000 and my dad would bring it with him when going to the toilet to play Ben 10 or God's of war
I can only say thank you for making this video, so much nostalgia I got from your video, and what an amazing device it was, still own mine and I love it ❤️
Just bought a rare imported psp from Japan and I’m really happy people are still using the psp
I actually brought my 2005 psp on a European road trip this year just played vice city stories but still I was shocked that it still worked and held charge so well
Pulled out the psp from the gaming storage box, in process of ordering new games for 2024.
Don't forget 60fps patches for PSP games!
The only "bad" think is that you need an app to send stuff from pc to psvita
Normal psp can do that too
S0NY have proven that they don't have a clue about either handhelds, or as of late Virtual Reality.
Thrillville 👐🏽👐🏽👐🏽👐🏽👐🏽👐🏽👐🏽👐🏽 that was the game right there man!
Intoxicating, really.
As someone who sells refurbished PSP's, I couldn't agree more ;)
Wish I grew up with the PSP...
Fact that my PSP still runs after 8 years is amazing! Can't wait to use it for the next 6 years :D
Mine broke after 3 years I had the special darth Vader edition and I miss it :(
I had to change the battery a few years ago.. But other than that it’s not much different than when it was brand new.. I got it simply for Sid Meiers Pirates which I used to play on my computer when I was a kid..
great video but honestly a ps vita oled is the way to go
The PSP is great for gaming especially if you jailbreak it. It runs a lot of retro consoles. Love it. It's a great buy even to this day but if you can buy a vita it would be better. The PSVita can do all what the PSP can do (except play UMD disc) and play Vita games too.
So what’s better for gaming
@@PaperChase04 if you want to play Vita games too then PSVITA is the better choice but if all you want is to play PSP and PS1 only then buy any PSP model.
@@commercialfree thanks !
UMDs are utter shite and completely overrated. Also they are s l o w. . . .
My favorite feature on my old PSP was the Internet radio. Found some awesome tracks on that thing.
The worst part is I dig out my modded PSP from time to time and end up pushing the screen to do things! One of my favorites. One of the best? I think the best handheld. And I am a Microsoft person.
