Good technique! I think one body movement that both boxers and grapplers do really well against striking, that Aikidoka don’t practice as much if at all, is to roll under a punch. Moving your head is one of the quickest and easiest ways to not get hit, but for some reason Aikidoka act like their head is immobile. Moving under and in to the outside opens up a lot of Aikido techniques to deploy. Food for thought! Keep up the great work!
Jesus Christ even your wife is built like a tank... your nephew is built like a tank... everyone there is built like a tank... LENNY, WHAT ARE YOU PUTTING IN THE DOJO WATER FOUNTAIN?! ALSO, this is a really simple but dope technique! Think I'll get a mate of mine around next weekend or something and see if he's not up for practicing it for a bit outside, great video dude. Last but not least - your wife seems a sweetheart! :)
Lenny I'm glad that you're showing your wife how to defend herself and possibly your kids. Because you know that you're not always going to be with her and them. That's awesome that she's willing and want to learn. I believe everyone should learn some type of self defense no matter what style or system. Kudos to you man 🤙. As always love your videos and your style of Aikido. Peace bro 🙏
The instructor has lots of patience & it's great to have a student like that to build it. She seems like such a sweetheart but in a life or death situation it's better for the female to give the beating than be the next rape victim. Instant SUB IMHO.
Thank you for telling me the name of the throw. I knew it was a judo or bjj throw. In aikido we do something similar but it’s more over hip and back so it would be a koshinage
Awesome video guys. The funniest part was...when it cut to commercial...it was a kit kat commercial. This is a great video for women's self defense. I have seen videos where men strike a woman. I also seen men grab women a lot and I'm interested if the second video has defenses against a grab. Women: don't be a victim! Stand up and fight. Protect yourself. Protect your family.
Great video champ 🏆 this shows that to be the best you have to learn from the best and you're the king of the self defense jungle my man, to many more years to come brother 🐼.
Lenny, Jenna picked this up very quickly. Like most of the techniques, you have shown through the years, they are direct, to the point, and flow very well if one takes the time to get off their asses and practice somewhat. The haymaker movement is the same when the suspect punches or attempts to strike with a weapon. The flow of this technique remains the same. As a cop, I attempt to finish with the suspect on their stomach. Do have any suggestions about how to keep my firearm from hanging up on their mid-section when I am lowering my weight before the throw? The firearm hangs up about 1 out of 4 times. As always, stay safe! P.S. It's great to teach loved ones not to be victims and/or punching bags!
Love your videos. Always good stuff. Love Aikido. The two hand attack/block is important. Most do not coordinate their attacks this way and it gives a huge advantage. Suggestion: Look into a Pak Sao 'stop' against the inside low bicep; I find it more effective and quicker against a rounded punch. VERY effective against haymakers. One must use a RELAXED hand, little force, strike like a snake [mouth in the middle of the palm] absorb the contact, then return the force off the rebound. It's a quick, easy motion. Caution: the harder the opponent swings, the more damage is done to their arm [if the Pak Sao is performed correctly]. A full force swing into a Pak Sao can break the arm of the attacker. If you "return" their force, they often go bouncing back as well. The best part is one doesn't have to change their force when using Pak Sao. The softness and absorption is more important. It WILL leave quite a dark bruise on the bicep [it's a tender area as well by the nerve bundle] if you let her practice on your haymaker. Start with less punching force, then ramp up. I think it may suit your wife's personality and approach more than the traditional hard block method.
Hi again lenny we call that throw in traditional jujitsu head and hip throw just a little tip for the smaller defender has the punch comes in if the defender uses momentum and includes using their bodyweight and drops onto one knee this throw becomes effortless and shocks the attacker because the body mechanics is like a cog on a bicycle the attacker won't know what's hit them so he will have no resistances BE WARNED!! When the leg you're kneeling on goes down make sure you're instep is flat to the floor because the attacker could land on the heel if it is raised and could potentially snap the achillies tendon . awesome video mate just try the drop on one knee see you what you think mate I'm sure you will definitely be suprised but like I say drop you're heel down that's a must mate respect as always lenny. All the best mate.
Great as always, Sensei! For Koshinage, Yoshio Kuroiwa Sensei would take the back leg-that winds up closest to uke after the throw-and walk through as their falling in case they manage to resist. But with their head and shoulder dropping/turning resistance seems futile. Haymakers give balance away to nage quite nicely! Side note: You’d better start putting your dirty drawers in the bin and stop leaving your shoes in the hallway! She’ll drop you man!! 😇
You apply the side of your pointer finger knuckle (not thumb) just above his elbow. It's a yonkyo nerve press. You can apply it anywhere between the bottom crescent of his tricep and his elbow.
Great technique and your wife did very well. As seagal said women have better agility than us men, because they have to rely on the angles to make the techniques work.
Thanks for the videos, you are a great sensei, hope you can come to FL.and open a dojo here, want to know if you have a cd video with all the techniques??? Thanks
Good video Lenny. But as a judoka, you have to bump his center of gravity with your butt, only that detail to tell to your wife, but you are uploading great stuff. The throw is called koshi guruma btw

Thank you very much for the excellent demonstration sensei. Sensei, I would like to take this opportunity to say that you have a very beautiful wife. She's very pretty. She seems really sweet. I'm very new to your channel and just subscribed. Please continue making your videos and uploading. I have been studying martial arts for 23 years now: traditional shotokan karate and koga ryu jujitsu under sensei Teddy Butler in Louisiana. He passed away several years ago because of a heart condition. He studied under Sensei Kubota and Sensei Onaga in Japan for nearly 32 years. I have had the misfortunes of going through stomach cancer. I have had multiple surgeries within the last 8 years. Because of my condition, I have gained a LOT of weight; NEARLY 150lbs. I'm currently working out slowly and getting back into fitness. I have a long way to go. Please pray for me. Pray for my family as well. Thank you very much sensei for all of your videos. One word of advise, let your haters hate. They are NOTHING but keyboard warriors who have nothing better to do than to make stupid comments. Continue producing great content and continue doing what you are doing. Sensei Butler always used to say, "Let your haters be your motivators." Blessings
This would all work a 100% if you could move 20% faster than your opponent, in these videos she's already getting into the throwing motion as the guys lunging forward,
Flytrap I don't know what your trying to imply here..... but it's like rogue warrior says baby steps don't forgot his wife hasn't trained before it's her first time... ???
@@ChfBgTlk /watch?v=qSKaGSiq4k8 I know we're not talking about boxing in here, but this is how it's done. Notice how his left foot always stays in front when moving forward? Notice how he tries to plant his feet for power? Untrained people naturally keep their left foot forward too (if right handed), except for when catching their balance after the punch is thrown (like a pitcher throwing a baseball). Sword fighting lunges are not natural.
It’s called a headlock throw or head and arm in wrestling. Go figure? Because you end with a headlock and have the head and arm trapped In judo terms it’s halfway between an ogoshi and a harai goshi
Ilyass Nejjar thank you, I knew there’d was a name for it but I didn’t know what to call it because it was just a hip throw but has a harai goshi head grip
Who cares if there was a step or not? If you are throwing a hook or a round house punch, you are committing your energy forward. Like Sensei said, she is not going up against a boxer. Any untrained fighter will commit to a haymaker. Once they are in range and you pull that head down, they have no choice but to get tossed. It's human nature to go down to protect the spine. You don't even think about it. It's just instinct. She did very well for the first time doing it. What I would like to see is a future video , after she has practiced the technique extensively, dealing with the same scenario, only with more pressure from the attacker. Meaning, someone who is not going to let her throw him. It's obvious that the uke was throwing himself over after the initial toss, as he should to avoid injury. But, as she advances in the technique, she should be able to do the throw on her own with an un-willing aggressor. Correct me if I'm wrong about the uke Sir.
No, you're missing the point that the lunge step (where your stance switches mid punch) is characteristic of sword techniques and Aikido. Not untrained people. It matters because it completely opens up your center for counters, and overcommits your body weight. Even an "un-willing aggressor" will be easier throw when lunging at you. I have no problem with the throw, just the setup.
@@flytrap6511That is my whole point. An untrained fighter will throw his entire body weight into that punch. It makes absolutely no difference whether he steps or not. I don't care where your feet are. Energy is energy. Once it's in motion, it is very hard to stop, unless you are trained to not over commit. Which, we have established already, that most of the time, the aggressor will not be trained. As an example, when I throw a hook punch, it is typically in close quarters, and I will be punching off the rear leg, torqueing my hips to drive the punch in an arcing motion. Now, this is a very powerful strike, and there is a lot of energy driving through the target. If my opponent, instead of trying to stop that energy, simply excepts the energy, they could easily disrupt my structure. This is the reason I seldom throw a punch like this, unless I already have control, and am in a dominant position. Bottom line is, the haymaker is one of the easiest strikes to defend.
@@frodo1968294 No, not all overcommitment is the same. There's a huge distinction between leaning your bodyweight forward on a sloppy haymaker, and stepping your entire body mass forward on a lunge. Not to mention opening your center in the process. Pause a lunge step in mid-punch, the Uke is standing on one foot with their hips squared to you. This is probably the most unstable position you could possibly be in. I totally agree that a haymaker is among the easiest strikes to defend. Unless set up Khabib style, where you feint a takedown an loop an overhand right. But we're talking untrained, so I digress. I somewhat agree with a having to be in position to throw a tight right hook, as it's a short range punch, but people seldom lead with that punch anyways. Which is why left hooks are far more utilized.
Well rod explained that he had no choice but to go with the technique after the "headlock" because his leaned-over position comprised his balance. Yes, there was no resistance...but I don't think he gave her the ukemi. I think Gen took it and forced his ukemi.
@@ChfBgTlk No, I agree she took him down properly. And he did not let her do it. But, he did throw himself into the break fall, as anyone who is used to being thrown would. But, most people are not trained in break falls. There would be considerably more dead weight from someone else.
I understand the application however my question is why would/should there be a difference between women's self defense and regular self defense if the technique works why differentiate between the genders?
Men can "muscle" through a technique where women have to rely on leverage and speed to pull the same thing off. It's not so much the technique is "different" as it is the application of it and the approach to pulling it off is more important.
Art T if you need self defense it means you’re smaller than your attacker to begin with. “Women” is just a bonus term to get more views, because women won’t normally look at martial arts videos. Lenny’s regular viewers will watch it no matter what but this gets women who are scared for their lives and want self defense techniques
Two reasons. First one: women are not as strong as men, so their techniques should be designed to take into consideration their need to fill the power gap by laverage, timing, momentum, etc... Second reason: The types of attackes women could face differ. The rape attack, two handed standing choke, hair pulling... these are not stuff a man would face on the street, so they need specific tools to deal with it. Women also carry stuff men don't use in their hand bags, so it could be useful to teach them how to modify that into improvised weapons if needed.
Ilyass Nejjar the first one I disagree. If you’re anywhere near as strong as your opponent you don’t need self defense, no one teaches self defense for people who are big and strong. That’s an advantage. You don’t need to learn techniques to defend yourself, people just won’t attack you if they think it’s a 50/50 chance of winning or losing. Weak people get attacked, not typical people As for the second part I agree rape defense and hair pulling and stuff is one differentiating factor but this video didn’t cover that
%$#@Mr. Lenny Sly, PLEASE READ, I have checked in my area where I live and the only good style aikdo is aikiki, there isn't any "tenshin" so I can practise "hand deflections", some of the inst haven't even heard of "hand deflections" wich I find really dissapointing! Tenshin aikido is the only style that teaches that unfortionatky.........any suggestions? I can call you if you like......I have north americian wide on my phone
The throw is good. The punch with the Aikido lunge step is not good. That's not how untrained people throw haymakers. If anything they'll take a step after the punch is thrown as a follow through, not during the punch. If you're gonna argue that she won't encounter a boxer, then she won't encounter that sword lunge either. Try to figure out a more relevant setup.
@@SLYSCOMBATIVECONCEPTS13 I'm trying to have an intelligent conversation with you sir. If your reason is that it's her first time, why bother with an unrealistic punch at all? Just teach her the throw, then move on a realistic setup. Right now, you're teaching her a bad thing she'll have to unlearn.
Your trying to have an intelligent conversation? All you’re doing is trying to tell me how I’m teaching her the wrong things. Really??? Who are you anyways and why do you even care?

I absolutely agree isn't this just self defence?
Why call it womens self defence
Weak people get attacked, not typical people
As for the second part I agree rape defense and hair pulling and stuff is one differentiating factor but this video didn’t cover that
No MMA guys saying won't work?
What are you talking about?
nice learned alot
geee, she is super beautiful(tulip), but I'm trying to be a hard ass( literally) target like Donna(throwing star)its an energy thing, obviously.
This was her first time doing this dude, relax. Baby steps
@@SLYSCOMBATIVECONCEPTS13 First time doesn't matter. This isn't teaching a proper usage.
Lol oooook if you say so.
You have zero bearing on her life what so ever.
One of my good friends is a 3rd degree black belt and very close friend to Rickson Gracie and he had not one bad thing to say about what I was teaching her. Trust me if I was teaching her wrong he’d definitely tell me. So how about stop being a troll, if you don’t like it move on.
But thanks for your opinion, duly noted.
Lenny, Awesome video brother! Thanks to that video, my wife is now giving it a try. By the way, check out my comment over at: Aikido Still Sucks | Followup to Rokas vs. Lenny. He's such a turd. As always, don't feed the internet trolls. Keep doing what you do! Love your videos.
When it's feasible you'll see me there.
