      @@mathewjones8886 all pitchers were using it. It helps them grip the ball better and now that the MLB has stopped allowing it. Pitchers like Glasnow are injured because they have to hold the ball tighter. It will take a while for pitchers to get use to it but I’m a big fan of Cole so I’m happy to see him back to what he was.

      You realize the Astros swung 5hrough at least 15 pitches right down the middle sometimes pitchers get lucky hitters have bad timing games another day this same performance would have been 7 runs

I just hope we can do something about our Starting Pitching before the deadline. I'm still pissed we didn't sign and keep Greinke way back when.       @@69sidewinder As an Angel fan myself my entire life and constantly being disappointed, the only way the Angels will ever win a world series again is if they A. Stop making ridiculous contract signings of players such as Rendon B. Spend that money on Pitching C. Understand the true balance that a team needs of both Pitching and Hitting. You cannot win baseball games with only hitting regardless if we have two of the best players in the entire league. Sure, is Trout, Rendon, and Walsh injured? Yes, but the reality is that this team would get absolutely demolished against any really good team in the playoffs with just how awful our pitching is. Just imagine how different the Angels could be (granted if everyone is healthy) if the money spent on Rendon was split up on extremely solid starting pitching alongside Ohtani. They would absolutely get to the world series. No pitching, no winning.

    Looking back, I feel like this has to be the single most dominant pitching performance of the 2021 season. A complete game shutout against the best offense in baseball.
    Scherzer's perfect game bid comes close, and so do a few DeGrom starts. But nothing of this sheer magnitude.

      It goes part way there but we coulda used him pitching that well against the Red Sox a coupla weeks ago! Still if he can turn it on like this in WC game for example or PS if yanks get their act together, then he proves he is still that dominant clutch ace for them!

      @@killthecardinals Yeah it's a bit in doubt, KTC. An ace has to step up but against Boston he did not and against the kid brother Mets, he also did not so yeah....we all begin to wonder. The performance in Houston was fantastic and goes a long way to quelling those doubts though.

      I mean all it ever did was make him a little better, it didn't make him the ace. It's the same as Bonds (albeit less extreme) where the roids didn't make him the best, he was already the best and got just a bit better

    I saw the tail end of this game last night. That 129-pitch effort was awesome and all, but the best part of Gerrit Cole's performance that night was him telling Aaron Boone in a VERY passionate way that you're NOT taking me out of this game. I ain't no Yankees fan (I'm a Dodgers fan) but man, I was so happy when Cole told Boone to shove off and when he got that K to end the game.

    That light to shadows situation between the mound and the hitter against Cole just isn’t fair. Hard enough to track Coles pitches then add on the shadows starting half way between the mound and home plate and it’s got to be a nightmare for hitters
