This an assault on the rights of others and their right to assemble
The university has a legal responsibility to protect the students . Physically and mental duress. Students and faculty do not have a right to assemble on campus . That makes the university liable to any lawsuits filed against them . The university can not take a stand for or against , they can only protect their liability
This is nuts and must be stopped.
Know who also thinks it's nuts? Kenneth Stern, who wrote the IHRA definition in the first place.
"Stern also criticized how the working definition of antisemitism adopted by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which he drafted 20 years ago, has been deployed by universities. Stern said it was designed to determine what incidents from different countries to include in a report aiming to take the temperature of antisemitism across nations.
"But Stern indicated that a turning point was when the U.S. Department of Education in 2010 released a Dear Colleague letter clarifying that Jews, Sikhs, and Muslims are protected under Title VI. He supported this but said Zionist and pro-Israel groups began using the IHRA definition as a basis for suing universities under Title VI-with complaints over what was being taught and what speakers were coming to campus-which Stern said is 'nuts.'
“'We’re missing the drivers of actual antisemitism in our country today,' Stern said. 'When I speak to synagogues, I say, "If you’re concerned about antisemitism, be concerned about the vilification of Muslims, be concerned about the vilification of immigrants, because that’s what’s going to drive people to antisemitism. It’s not going to be what an 18-year-old on a campus may be saying about Israel."’” -- Penn Today, 4/8/2024

I'm still gobsmacked that some men and women I respect voted fro this monstrosity of a bill.
WE NEED TO PRESS THEM ABOUT OUR ANTI-BLACK HATECRIME BILL!!!
We have such short memories in this country. Now everyone claims that they were against apartheid in South Africa, but when students protested, sat in, etc. demanding divestment from South Africa, they were arrested and harshly criticized by many many people who thought they deserved worse. When students and others protested and sat in against Jim Crow laws and other racial segregation in the US, they were villified, beaten, arrested, similar to what's happening to the students here. Same thing with those who protested against the Vietnam war, Iraq war, etc. In another decade, it's likely that the people who are villifying these students will be claiming that they always opposed Israel's mistreatment of the Palestinians, and even claiming that they were part of the protests. Or it could go the other way, and we could be living in a heightened McCarthyite era, or a fascist state, in which all of us face imprisonment or worse for opposing any of our own government's policies. I hope Robbie's warning is heeded here.

This is what I hate about our government. I've been super critical of these protests, but I hate how predictable it is that the gov't would use this as a chance to enact more gov't overreach. I don't understand why it's so hard for the gov't to just respect individuals and private property. I'm against the protesters because I see the colleges as private institutions with guidelines on where the students can protest and how they can go about it. Enforcing their own, self governed rules should be enough to properly achieve order. It shouldn't require changing laws. Similarly, despite disagreeing with the pro-Hamas students, they should be allowed to demonstrate as long as they are respecting private property and respecting people. The gov't always makes things worse.
The most draconian ever? Robby is 100% right. I went to get my masters in Political Science, and I was the only right leaning student. One day in class, my cohort stated and all agreed that if you have the wrong opinion, you should not be allowed to talk. This was 2017, and this was in direct reference to me. My professor, after another class, stated, "I'm impressed you state your opinion still even though we all know you're wrong."
This was a masters program, mind you, and that professor was the head of the program, and her husband was the advisor....
sure thing bro...
@hairywhodini3429 what are you even trying to say? That I'm being dishonest? Idc, either way, I'm just telling my experience to give light to this being an issue for years and in all levels of education.

yes, I think you're FOS
heard the same story too many times
almost verbatim
@hairywhodini3429 hahahahahahaha. Okay, you could have just said, "I don't believe anything that doesn't fit my view."
Maybe, and I know this is a wild thought, but maybe these stories are true like mine, and it's a reoccurring issue? But no, you have to be right. No one could experience anything like this in a college. 😂😂
With that said, thank you for your comment, and have a good life in your false created bubble where you pick and choose what's true and not while we all live in reality. Go troll someone else. 😊😊
They are anti genocide not "pro Palestinian".
They're not waving anti-genocide flags.
Or pro Hamas or antisemites
