    I love this album even better than Melancholy, it makes more sense to me and is very well put together. The last 3 songs also elevate the album to a very different dimension. I think it's a an album to listen as a whole.

      Necrotic Nick- There's definitely stuff I like about this album but there's a bit too much of the symphonic elements and honestly those synths start sounding very samey after awhile. The last 3 definitely showed some cool songwriting dynamics that I liked so I'm curious where they go.

    I thought this album was pretty good. Definitely not my favorite. I think their previous album “melancholy” was a deathcore masterpiece and is similar to elegy except they aren’t as drenched in symphonic stuff. I highly recommend malediction from melancholy

    On metal archives it has this band as Symphonic/Melodic Deathcore. Heading in, I was kinda expecting like the goofy cheesy symphonic metal stuff. But just now finishing the album, for me I actually quite liked this one. I liked the melodic nature to it and the symphonies to me only carried the music further and didn't create a cheesy atmosphere which I quite liked. I felt like for the most part this was a really solid record and definitely one that I would want to head back to.

      Necrotic Nick- I think the symphonic elements end up becoming too overdone at certain point. They kinda lose what I imagine was supposed to be a sinister edge and it just gets campy for me. When the symphonic albums take a backseat they're actually pretty good though.

    Shadow of Intent have become one of my favorite modern deathcore bands. This album to me is their best album to date. I love how they blend deathcore with symphonic elements so well, and Ben Duerr is such an incredible vocalist.

    I thought this was a great album. People think their last album, Melancholy, was their masterpiece. I could agree but I personally liked their Reclaimer record. If you want a really crushing song from them, try The Forsaken Effigy. It's one of heaviest songs I enjoy. Hell, SoI are my heaviest band I listen to. Anyway Elegy is a 8.75/10 for me.

    I quite liked this album personally. I'm probably less of a deathcore fan than you, I can't stand it for the most part so it's even nicer when I find one that's actually decent. I've never liked deathcore as a whole so it's rare that happens 🤣 I think the reason why I liked this is because of the elements that you were not really into. For me I'm much more of a fan of when an album like this brings in those kind of things, because otherwise I feel it can just be a bit boring. Same goes for the Fit For An Autopsy album, there's some tracks on there that are awesome, and also the Depths of Hatred album from last year. This and those mentioned above are definitely ones I will be checking in with in future to see where the sound goes

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  2 года назад

      Necrotic Nick- I'm not much a deathcore fan and more but I'm even less of a fan of most symphonic metal in general so this may have been a perfect storm of taking me out of my comfort zone for a bit. lol. I like when deathcore steps outside of the breakdown to blast beat formula but sometimes it's a mixed bag depending on which direction they step. I like the blend of Rivers of Nihil and Gojira in Fit for an Autopsy's sound but with this one the symphonic elements are just overbearing and a bit generic. I'm glad you found something new you liked though.

    I really enjoyed this album. I got hooked on the singles Intensified Genocide and From Ruin... We Rise and was highly anticipating this album and it didn't disappoint. I will say it wasn't as good as I was hoping, but still very solid. It's also my first time listening to a full Shadow of Intent album. I agree that Of Fury, even if it's not a bad song, feels really weird on this album. On first listen I would say that I liked the Worm Shepherd more (it's more brutal and less symphonic but still similar to SoI), but this album is really good. Of course the winner of Jan. 14th deathcore is definitely Fit For An Autopsy for me.

      Necrotic Nick- I really enjoyed Intensified Genocide. That song is a banger. Of Fury just didn't seem to fit on the album for me. It felt too much like a symphonic power metal song in spots. All bands should do the same as these guys and self release. It's so much "easier"* to do now. Home studio programmes are cheap and amazingly easy to use and make a record- I've managed to put a whole 11 track Big Beat/sample/cut n' paste DJ Shadowesque LP together in the space of two years, including teaching myself how to use it... And it was only £/$14. I can't play an instrument at all, so imagine what you could do if you can!
    Record labels are obsolete in every way to be honest, they just don't want people to find out. They were there to pay studio fees and producers wages and then dish out on promotion and manufacturing. All of that you can do yourself, especially with the reach of social media. Imagine bands being able to create without the yoke of record label debt over their heads.
    In the early to mid 80's I started becoming aware of the DIY punk scene with bands like Crass, Subhumans et al. Photocopied covers and tapes and self released, pressed singles on vinyl, paid for with fanzine, gig money and social benefits ;). There are so many bands now going down that route in the resurging underground in UK. Jungle, Grime and all the electro dance sub cultures have been doing this since early 90's.
    With so many different platforms available to promote and release new music the time has never been better to drive the vultures in the big companies into the ground forever.. I have no love for them. The money they steal from the artist is sickening and has lead to the ultimate kick in the nutsack- Spotify. Bandcamp and Mixcloud have been amazing. I've bought so many bits and bobs because of them.. Hellripper being a great example of a Bandcamp find. When you have so many bands literally hoping their merch sales will cover the cost of tours and help with LP sales to cover the debt they are in to the record company, something is so fucking incredibly wrong.
    My favourite band in the entire world and has been since I was 18, is British punk/techno/grebo/hip hop/underground legends, Pop Will Eat Itself- love them. Seen them live more than any other band, 30+ at last count. In 1992 they were dropped by their record label before the end of their contract and because of this, their debt to the company was written off. Over £1million. Studio costs, promotion, artwork etc for three LP's. And that was 30 years ago, can you imagine the debt that bands are yoked with now? Fucking shocking. The lads in PWEI were only about 26 when they were dropped.. Imagine being that much in debt at that age? 5 in the band, £200+ grand each. That's fucking scary shit.. I'm 51 now, I don't think in my entire working life I've actually earned 200 grand if added all together.. 334 years man lol!
    So, after such a ramble hahaha.. Yay to bands self releasing.. boo to record companies.. and I thought this record was pretty awful all in all.. but I really don't like symphonic anything in metal to be honest. I just want chug, growls, thrash, mental drumming, blistering guitar solos and scowly band photos. I'm a simple man with simple tastes \m/
    * I say easier.. obviously it takes a lot of dedication, commitment, forward thinking, dedication and a team of people on your side and above all- time, patience, bloody minded determination, contacts, kindness and the truth that you very unlikely to be rich, but if you get to do what you love and it pays for itself, then that's a fucking win.
    Sermon over, turn to hymns, page 456...

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  2 года назад

      Necrotic Nick- There's arguments to be made for and against going with a label. With labels there's arguably stronger promotion and support for the bands but that really does depend on the label. With self releasing you're not subjected to the restraints of being on a label as well or them pushing you in different directions artistically. There's definitely room for a big discussion (maybe something we might cover in a video someday actually) but it really can go either way.

    • @sichinook3793
      @sichinook3793 2 года назад +1

      @@thrallsofmetal agreed Nick. I think some labels- especially in our music community are much better.. ie- have a conscience and a soul lol.
      Metal has some great labels like RoadRunner, Metal Blade etc that have pushed the genre and bands to the forefront. All these guys were independent labels started by enthusiasts that could see that the majors were never going to sign metal bands, especially in the early 80's. Without them, where would we be in terms of the music we love? Probably much poorer in diversity and your cd collection would be just one shelf dude lol.
      I think most labels are cutting back on expenditure, even with the resurgence of vinyl and cd sales. The amount of money used to promote bands and records is being scaled down- especially when you can pay a small team of social networkers to use all platforms to push LP ad's and reviews in marketing campaigns, largely for free.. no massive printing costs for posters or advertising budgets for ad's in music press etc and instant access in to the eyes of the buyer.
      Even how an LP is plugged seems to have dramatically changed, with live album streams on YT and being available on Spotify.. whether or not that helps sell the record digitally or physically would be an interesting answer.
      I really think that this subject would make for a good discussion on your channel- especially with Jammin' as he's looking at promoting new bands, right ?.. fuck it guys- you should make a Thralls record label for releasing and promoting underground metal bands.. I'm a top illustrator if they need LP art work.. like proper good old skool Metal art a la Derek Riggs at his height and the current best work on Death metal releases \m/
      Subject wise, it would make for an invaluable roundtable for up and coming bands and teens in the basement or garage that could really do with the knowledge or extra drive to make things happen for their music. Could even branch out into sharing tips for home recording via digital platforms, which programmes are the best value for money and give the best results for recording. Perhaps invite members of bands and industry types onto the channel to discuss their experiences and insights on the subject?
