I must be one of the few out there that ranks Divine Intervention in his top 3 with Seasons in the Abyss and South of Heaven. It's one of their most technical riff wise and absolutely showed that thrash metal wasn't going anywhere without a fight in the era of groove metal and grunge reigning supreme. Between Fictional Reality, Serenity in Murder, and Mind Control the album is a 37 minute ripper that doesn't get enough love.

Enjoy that album better than most of the others that came after. Loved the Diabolus live shows too. My first show was on the Reign In Blood Tour in Edinburgh Scotland, April 1987. 😎🤘
D.I.M. is better than anything that came after it. I was listening to it yesterday. I loved GHUA when it came out, but I don't really enjoy it anymore. I never liked, and still don't like Christ Illusion. I still like World Painted Blood, but rarely listen to it, and thought Repentless is their worst album.
@@Gregbaltzer I marginally prefer Christ Illusion over World Painted Blood but they are not anywhere near as good as Diabolus. GHUA is good but again it sounds a bit forced in places.
The song Tormentor on Show No Mercy is my favorite song off that album his falsetto from that song gives me goosebumps but it an awesome way. That's song is why its my number one.
I remember my little stoner buddy James putting various Slayer albums on while I was hanging out with him at his house in 1988. I couldn't wrap my mind around them. I was too into the Metallicas, the Megadethes, and the Anthraxes. I knew of Nuclear Assault but hadn't at that time heard them, Exodus (not proud of this) didn't impress me as much at the time (at the time), Overkill I liked a bit more but I just couldn't understand (at that time) what Slayer were. I knew they were thrash, but I didn't know what black metal was though I'd seen the first two Venom albums but hadn't even thought of a band like Bathory. Death metal was still a couple years away as far as me finding out what that was, but a few more years before actually getting into it more in the mid-'90s (there's a whole story behind that lol). I will say, even though I wasn't the biggest Slayer fan then or now, you can't beat 1980s Slayer (including "Seasons in the Abyss"). I also remember hearing them in the movie "River's Edge"...
Hallowed Point is one of the most brutal songs the lyrics too.. The intro to jesus saves. The riffs in postmortem. The intro to spill the blood and intro in mandatory suicide etc etc.
It’s technically the start of Jesus Saves but to me it’s the transition from Alter of Sacrifice to Jesus saves and I fu€king love it! Probably really simple to play but to me it’s like getting a dose of gamma radiation! Smash!
Tough to rank! Been 🤘🏼 Slayer since ‘87 #1 South of Heaven #2 Reign in Blood #3 Seasons in the Abyss #4 Christ Illusion #5 Hell Awaits #6 Divine Intervention #7 Show no Mercy #8 Haunting the Chapel #9 World Painted Blood #10 Repentless #11 God Hates us All #12 Diabolus
I remember waiting in line on 9/10/2001... my birthday....until midnight at the House of Guitars, for the release of God Hates Us All. Got it home, listened and loved it. And the next morning when I brought it to work to play for everyone...started playing it...and....9/11 happens. Totally took the wind out my sails. Was soooo stoked to play new Slayer for everyone...and nobody cared anymore. Still a great disc to me. Payback is still a great track! And looking back on it, that track totally fit everyone's mood the rest of that fateful day!
Hell Awaits came on while on my way into office this morning and volume instantly maxed out. Seriously, is there any band who comes close to using killer riffs and intros to build atmosphere of a song? Hell awaits, black magic, seasons in the abyss, raining blood, dead skin mask, etc.
I've seen Slayer twice in concert! First time was in October of 2016 in Abbotsford and the second [and unfortunately final] time was in May of 2018 in Vancouver. Both times I saw them, Anthrax were on the bill. First time I saw them had Death Angel and Anthrax on the bill and the second time had Testament, Behemoth, Anthrax and Lamb of God on the bill.
One of metal's most important bands. 1. Show No Mercy 2. Reign in Blood 3. Seasons in the Abyss 4. South of Heaven 5. Haunting the Chapel 6. Divine Intervention 7. Christ Illusion 8. Hell Awaits
Crazy how the song that has recently gotten me into slayer is Seasons In The Abyss... I've never been a fan of Tom's normal vocals, however I really fucking love the delivery and style on that song (enough to make me give Raining Blood and South Of Heaven more chances...) now here I am to really delve deeper into their discography! Also those album covers... shame Repentless isn't as good as the Reign - Seasons was, because that cover is my favorite of theirs... I mean, Jesus Christ crying tears of blood is just insane, I love it

Since I can see you guys are reading the comments, and I know creators are interested in which videos are helping them hit the algorithm, it was the Cannibal Corpse discography one that found its way into my recommended video list 😃
All right. I’m good and drunk. And still got a few more. First off. This is my favorite band. Even carved SLAYER in my arm in shop class 🩸 👿 mad trust , love , and respect. No idea what to expect 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
Show No Mercy - 7 Haunting The Chapel - 8 Hell Awaits - 6 Reign In Blood - 2 South In Heaven - 4 (songwriting was 10/10 but for some reason a weak guitar sound and really thin production, would be 2 or 3 if it had same production as Reign) Seasons In The Abyss - 1 Divine Intervention - 3 Undisputed Attitude - 10 Diabolus In Musica - 5 God Hates Us All - 9 Christ Illusion - 11 World Painted Blood -12 Repentless - 13

Slayer to me is just a great master band!!! Maybe one day!???? 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾, my favorite album is reigning blood, n hell awaits, but it is definitely not fair,…..thank you guys!!!!!!!
Hell awaits is my favorite. Crypts of Eternity is my favorite Slayer song with At Dawn They Sleep being a close number 2. This album rips. My list would be pretty close to Jammin Jon's I think.
Show No Mercy was great, but they grew from there. It's the first Slayer I heard on a made tape. Analog, trading tapes and word of mouth was how we did it.
Interesting...I still have a hard time picking a favorite, it seems to depend on my mood. One day Reign, another day Seasons, lol. Thankfully I'll never have to pick just one! Love your appreciation of music and F*CKING SLAYER!!!!

This was a cool vid to watch and it was fun making my own list as well, thanks! If I could make a suggestion? I love seeing your individual ranks, but at the end of these discography rank vids, could you guys do a Thralls Of Metal average list? That would be really cool to see!
Necrotic Nick- That could be an interesting thing with the rankings having an average list at the end. Maybe just do it as an end screen or something. We'll definitely look into it because I like the idea overall.
Ok I couldn't wait haha Here is the Thralls Of Metal average list, hope you guys dig it: 1- Reign In Blood (1.25) 2- Seasons In The Abyss (2.5) 3- South Of Heaven (3.75) 4- Hell Awaits (4) 5- God Hates Us All (6.25) 6- Haunting The Chapel (6.75) 7- Christ Illusion (7) 8- Divine Intervention (7.5) 9- Show No Mercy (8) 10- World Painted Blood (9.75) 11- Diabolus In Musica (10.5) 12- Repentless (11.25) 13- Undisputed Attitude (12.75)
You analyzed South of Heaven and missed "Ghosts of War"? Also talked about Divine Intervention (criminally underrated album!) and not one of you mentioned "Killing Fields" and ESPECIALLY that outstanding "213" track?!
HELLo to Shredlord, The Tommie, Jammin' Jon and Necrotic Nick, ... here is my ranking. A bit late, I concede, but keep in mind that I've discovered your channel only recently. Here it comes (I start with the assbomb and end up with the three highlights): #13 Undisputed Attitude (Punk meets Slayer? NO GO!) #12 Diabolus in Musica (You've said all about it - no further comments necessary) #11 Repentless (Jeff, you are missing!) #10 World Painted Blood (quite a remake of 'Christ Illusion') # 9 God hates us all # 8 Divine Intervention # 7 Christ Illusion (btw, it had been released on my 45th birthday) # 6 Haunting the Chapel (an EP only, but 'Chemical Warfare', 'Captor of Sin' and 'Äggressive Perfector' make it worth mentioning) # 5 Show No Mercy (excellent material, but: no budget - no 1st hand producer - no good sound... a pity) # 4 Hell awaits (the music on this album keeps the promise given by the album title) # 3 South of Heaven (highlighted by the title track, along with 'Mandatory Suicide' and the incredible anti-abortion song 'Silent Scream' (the latter hadn't been mentioned in the comments) # 2 Seasons in the Abyss (unites all virtues of the former Slayer releases, with an excellent production) ... and last not least, my favourite Slayer album: # 1 REIGN IN BLOOD (Slayer's answer to Metallica's excellent 'Master of Puppets', which had been released approx. 7 months before Slayer's masterpiece). Greetings from 'Tyskland' (Germany), Detlef (60 ys. old but being rather a metalhead than playing bingo in a retirement home)
First off; i like these rating videos a lot. Good work guys, eventhough i do not always agree (but that doesn't matter..taste differs) I do notice that you guys are probably(?) a bit younger than me..that shows off in the choices you make in these rankings. As far as Slayer goes. Hell Awaits was my intro to the band. By far the most atmospheric they did imo. Ofcourse RiB is thé milestone. Its maybe the ultimate thrash album, but on the other hand it's totally not because of the hardcore/punk influence..1986 was the era of crossover and it shows on the album. Not as say SOD or Nuclear Assault, but still it's there. Production on RiB is timeless. But that makes it also a tiny bit less atmospheric/evil than Hell Awaits.
Nick's comment about the track "Spill The Blood" is spot on! The closer to South of Heaven just starts with this evil riffage and the lyrics are also badass. Solid album from top to bottom.
show no mercy has got to be 1 or 2 for me- i love their early first wave black metal/ speed metal sound so much more than their later stuff. i remember being a kid and hearing reign in blood for the first time and being actually scared shitless. i had to turn it off. but somethng kept calling me back to it.... also haunting the chapel fucking rules too....ground breaking legends \m/
Necrotic Nick- Agreed, though I knew in my heart it was going to be Reign in Blood that was #1. I've been jammin' that since I was a sophmore in high school and it hasn't lost it's luster one bit.
1. Reign in blood 2. Seasons in the abyss 3. God hates us all 4. South of heaven 5. Divine intervention 6. Hell awaits 7. Show no mercy 8. Haunting the chapel 9. Live undead 10. 1- Reign In Blood 2 - Seasons In The Abyss 3 - Hell Awaits 4- South Of Heaven 5 - Divine Intervention 6 - Show No Mercy 7 - Haunting the Chapel 8 - Undisputed Attitude 9- God Hates Us All 10 - Diabolus In Musica 11 - Christ Illusion 12 - World Painted Blood 13 - Repentless the reason Attitude is so high is that I think it is one of the best SOUNDING Slayer albums.. and the aggression/performance feels the most LIVE of any of their records
My Ranking: 1) Reign in Blood 2) South of Heaven 3) Hell Awaits 4) Divine Intervention 5) Seasons in The Abyss 7) Diabolus in Musica 8) Show No Mercy 9) Christ Illusion 10) God Hates Us All 11) World Painted Blood 12) Repentless

Undisputed attitude actually does have a few 'original' songs. The 2 pap smear songs are from jeffs side project, and for my money are the best ones on the album, "DDAMM" is a stone cold classic, i only wish their were more.
My ranking for the Slayer albums would be 12. Diabolus In Musica 11. Undisputed Attitude 10. Divine Intervention 9. Christ Illusion 8. God Hates Us All 7. World Painted Blood 6. Repentless 5. Show No Mercy 4. Hell Awaits 3. South Of Heaven 2. Reign In Blood 1. Seasons In The Abyss
For me i loved the three of SLAYER albums like Divine Intervention, World Painted Blood & Repentless it depends to the fans what will be there opinions.🤘🔥💯 #SLAYERRRRRR

"None of the songs stuck out" Go listen to Catatonic with headphones on. It's one of Lombardo's best songs. Christ illusion was meant to be listened at a volume level so loud that it almost hurts.
Yes s s s shred lord I’m glad you said seasons as 1st place album . Seasons is the one, reign in blood is overly placed at #1 imho I put it after seasons.
hey guys! I just want to give a few thoughts on Repentless as i have finally listened to the entire record and also it seems to get a lot of hate. I think Kerry did a really good job with the instrumentals and it was cool to get one last offering from Hanneman (rip) in 'piano wire' The vocals where a bit off in parts just too loud and out of place.. Good tunes though the last songs riffs were giving me Earth Crisis vibes funny enough. It would have been better with just ten songs i think ten is perfect for an album album anytime is see like twelve songs i automatically start thinking filler..just give us your best ten. loI I think it's an 8/10 album. Sorry just wanted to get that out. I haven't done my own ranking yet..cheers.

Great vid guys, but totally disagree about Undisputed Attitude, it's a really good album! All the songs they chose to cover are great and they gave them their own unique Slayer twist. Also Gemini is a fucking cool song, killer riff, great build up and release towards the end. I listen to more punk than metal though, so maybe that has something to do with it. :-)

Been 🤘🏼 Slayer since ‘87

Dudes IN THE NAME OF GOD & SCREAMING FROM THE SKY are Killer tracks. I hate how people dog this album.
Perversions of Pain. Bostaph OWNS EVERY OTHER DRUMMER by virtue of that ONE track.
Hell Awaits came on while on my way into office this morning and volume instantly maxed out.
Seriously, is there any band who comes close to using killer riffs and intros to build atmosphere of a song? Hell awaits, black magic, seasons in the abyss, raining blood, dead skin mask, etc.
We reviewed Undisputed Attitude, and I think we largely agree, but Gemini is a killer track!
I finally got into Verbal Abuse and DI thanks to Undisputed Attitude, it gets points from me for that
Spiritual Law!
Agreed with most except my favorite was South of Heaven. I just can’t get enough of that one followed by seasons then reign.
Goosebumps EVERYTIME the opening of South of heaven plays
One of metal's most important bands.

I saw Slayer in Billings Montana in 2004 with the original lineup. It was the same night that Dimebag got murdered in Ohio.
Necrotic Nick- Damn. I got to see them in 2004 on OzzFest with the original lineup. That was an amazing set.
Been bingeing these guys videos lately. And enjoying them a lot actually. A weird thing I noticed is that I agree with shredlord a lot. But wtf about world painted blood? I I love it, it's fantastic
Since I can see you guys are reading the comments, and I know creators are interested in which videos are helping them hit the algorithm, it was the Cannibal Corpse discography one that found its way into my recommended video list 😃
Miller- thanks for watching man we appreciate it!
Undisputed Attitude is super underrated. It's insanely fun and pretty ballsy for Slayer to put out such an album when they're at their highest.
I 100% agree!
All right. I’m good and drunk. And still got a few more. First off. This is my favorite band. Even carved SLAYER in my arm in shop class 🩸 👿 mad trust , love , and respect. No idea what to expect 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
Show No Mercy - 7
Haunting The Chapel - 8
Hell Awaits - 6
Reign In Blood - 2
South In Heaven - 4 (songwriting was 10/10 but for some reason a weak guitar sound and really thin production, would be 2 or 3 if it had same production as Reign)
Seasons In The Abyss - 1
Divine Intervention - 3
Undisputed Attitude - 10
Diabolus In Musica - 5
God Hates Us All - 9
Christ Illusion - 11

Slayer to me is just a great master band!!! No matter what, i am always waiting that either tom or kerry will finally dicide to open hennemans secret stash of songs that didn’t put out in a record or records and bless us!!!!“ the fans”, NEVER LOOSE HOPE!!!! Maybe one day!???? 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾, my favorite album is reigning blood, n hell awaits, but it is definitely not fair,…..thank you guys!!!!!!!
I agree about World Painted Blood...but Psycopothy Red is fucking brilliant. One of my favorites of all time.
Necrotic Nick- I do love that song and Unit 731 one as well.
@@thrallsofmetal Yes!!!! That Unit 731 song is crazy!
su nioj, su nioj, su nioj, Welcome Back! Hell Awaits...
Did you guys ever do a video on Kerry King's album?
Basically a Slayer album 🤣
I do like it though 👌
Hell awaits is my favorite. Crypts of Eternity is my favorite Slayer song with At Dawn They Sleep being a close number 2. This album rips. My list would be pretty close to Jammin Jon's I think.
Show No Mercy was great, but they grew from there. It's the first Slayer I heard on a made tape. Analog, trading tapes and word of mouth was how we did it.
Interesting...I still have a hard time picking a favorite, it seems to depend on my mood. One day Reign, another day Seasons, lol. Thankfully I'll never have to pick just one! Love your appreciation of music and F*CKING SLAYER!!!!
god hates us all was released on 9/11
1- Seasons In The Abyss
2- Show No Mercy

Divine and Diabolus have high marks for me, as I was a teen throughout the nineties and I played the living shit out of these 2 albums!
Ok I couldn't wait haha
Here is the Thralls Of Metal average list, hope you guys dig it:
1- Reign In Blood (1.25)
2- Seasons In The Abyss (2.5)
3- South Of Heaven (3.75)
4- Hell Awaits (4)

Necrotic Nick- That's pretty cool. Those top 4 were my personal top 4 anyway. lol. Thanks, bro!
@@thrallsofmetal haha you're welcome!
That looks like a nice sensible ranking to me. I agree!
You analyzed South of Heaven and missed "Ghosts of War"? Also talked about Divine Intervention (criminally underrated album!) and not one of you mentioned "Killing Fields" and ESPECIALLY that outstanding "213" track?!
HELLo to Shredlord, The Tommie, Jammin' Jon and Necrotic Nick,
... here is my ranking. A bit late, I concede, but keep in mind that I've discovered your channel only recently.
Here it comes (I start with the assbomb and end up with the three highlights):
#13 Undisputed Attitude (Punk meets Slayer? NO GO!)
#12 Diabolus in Musica (You've said all about it - no further comments necessary)
#11 Repentless (Jeff, you are missing!)
#10 World Painted Blood (quite a remake of 'Christ Illusion')
# 9 God hates us all
# 8 Divine Intervention
# 7 Christ Illusion (btw, it had been released on my 45th birthday)
# 6 Haunting the Chapel (an EP only, but 'Chemical Warfare', 'Captor of Sin' and 'Äggressive Perfector' make it worth mentioning)
# 5 Show No Mercy (excellent material, but: no budget - no 1st hand producer - no good sound... a pity)
# 4 Hell awaits (the music on this album keeps the promise given by the album title)
# 3 South of Heaven (highlighted by the title track, along with 'Mandatory Suicide' and the incredible anti-abortion song 'Silent Scream' (the latter hadn't been mentioned in the comments)
# 2 Seasons in the Abyss (unites all virtues of the former Slayer releases, with an excellent production)
... and last not least, my favourite Slayer album:
# 1 REIGN IN BLOOD
(Slayer's answer to Metallica's excellent 'Master of Puppets', which had been released approx. 7 months before Slayer's masterpiece).
Greetings from 'Tyskland' (Germany),

Great to watch! Cheers from Norway
Their first 3 records including the EP are my favorite era of Slayer.
Slayers first five are all so good it's really hard to rank them.
Necrotic Nick- Agreed, though I knew in my heart it was going to be Reign in Blood that was #1. I've been jammin' that since I was a sophmore in high school and it hasn't lost it's luster one bit.
Everyone should take a few minutes to watch Jim Breuer's standup about going to see Slayer. It is ridiculously funny & accurate.
1. Reign in blood
2. Seasons in the abyss
3. God hates us all
4. South of heaven
5. Divine intervention

8 - Undisputed Attitude
9- God Hates Us All
10 - Diabolus In Musica

the reason Attitude is so high is that I think it is one of the best SOUNDING Slayer albums.. and the aggression/performance feels the most LIVE of any of their records
I love these videos, van you do an obituary one? I guess it would be like 3 hours long though 😂
Necrotic Nick- Obituary is definitely one we want to do in the future since we're all fans of the band.

That was a bad ass show too. A small bar with like 100 people and played songs off Hell Awaits & SNM that they never play.

I love the Rivers of Nihil beanie dude they’re sick🤘🏼
Undisputed attitude actually does have a few 'original' songs. The 2 pap smear songs are from jeffs side project, and for my money are the best ones on the album, "DDAMM" is a stone cold classic, i only wish their were more.

4. Seasons in the Abyss
5. Reign In Blood.
For me i loved the three of SLAYER albums like Divine Intervention, World Painted Blood & Repentless it depends to the fans what will be there opinions.🤘🔥💯 #SLAYERRRRRR
Zero bad albums. Even the 'worst' Slayer album is better than most 80s thrash bands 'best'.

3.) South of Heaven
4.) Season in the Abyss
5.) Divine Intervention
I Love all their Albums.
"None of the songs stuck out" Go listen to Catatonic with headphones on. It's one of Lombardo's best songs. Christ illusion was meant to be listened at a volume level so loud that it almost hurts.
For me, Christ Illusion is just behind Seasons as Slayer's 5th best album, prefer it to Show No Mercy or any other post-Seasons albums
Yes s s s shred lord I’m glad you said seasons as 1st place album . Seasons is the one, reign in blood is overly placed at #1 imho I put it after seasons.
Slayer fucking show no mercy...reign in blood fucking Slayerrrrrrrr......................
Great vid as always - but no way Repentless is better than Undisputed Attitude - Araya’s vocals alone make that impossible imo
1) reign in blood 2)south of Heaven 3) seasons in the abyss 4) hell awaits 5) divine intervention 6)show no mercy 7)god hates us all 8)Christ illusion 9)world painted blood 10)repentless 11)diabolus musica 12)undisputed attitude. Reignin blood south of heaven & seasons in the abyss are all #1
The way certain people talk about Diabolus you'd think they brought in a DJ to scratch over half the songs or something. It's fine. But that's it.

show no mercy is slowly taking over hell awaits as my number 1.reign in blood is just too clean.
One of the greatest metal bands of all time. Probably #2 right behind Sabbath for me. The top of the ranking is easy for me, and the bottom as well. That middle portion is tough, though.
