Hopefully people will have a lot of fun playing with this rig! It's interesting stuff, though I kinda think Toon Boom works better when it's more stylized and isn't trying to imitate a hand-drawn look. This has almost an uncanny valley effect, where the character moves aaaalmost like he's hand-drawn, but he still has a slight paper doll look.
yeh it's just in the nature of drawing that you can make it a little more dynamic, give the drawings a little bit better form, and make it more expressive. And I suppose doing a character like this invites the comparison. You could theoretically use the rig instead of doing cleanup animation, but it might end up taking longer than just drawing it! And there are some limits to what you can do with rigs too, hair and clothes tend to be blocky
This is really gonna save me, as I'm about to get into an animation studio using very similar type of 1940's expressive and dynamic rigged characters. Thank you a ton man, this is an amazing job!!!
OOH. Yeah I also rigged some characters with mainly envelope deformers a few months back. It really opens up the options for squash n' stretch and turning the form. Can't wait to animate Marky Mark here!
