Just because a deck is considered meta, it doesn't mean it can't be defeated. Every deck has a weakness of some kind, and I believe everyone has the potential to find and understand those weaknesses.
WRONG tru dracos became meta becuz they have no defined weakness they are the alpha and omega of decks and I'm happy they are getting key cards banned, after all if every deck had a weakness with each deck being able to exploit that weakness why would we need a ban list? get it?
alexander bovard The ban list exists because some decks are stronger than others, absolutely, but it's also rare for a deck to be unbeatable. Tier 0 decks obviously fall into that category, but True Draco sits at the kids table compared to how oppressive the likes of Full Power Nekroz were on the game. These decks are the most commonly played because they need the least amount of help to succeed, not because they're completely unstoppable. You seem somewhat upset that people are vaguely optimistic about this game.

this is a great topic for discussion guys! As a player who exclusively uses a Gravekeeper deck this topic is near to my heart...every week I go to the tournament hoping to go 2-2...that's the fun for me is using new cards to keep my old engine strong and semi competitive...I never go to my shop (Super Games in Roswell Ga...Yu-Gi-Oh Mecca of the southeast US)...it's a cut throat tournament that I only ever hope to scrape one or two wins against meta players just to disrupt their night...I'm never there to win...just there to give those meta players a hard time with my 15 year old engine
Originality to your deck is a big thing. If your playing something you made off youtube then it wont help. already know what your deck can do in every situation by play testing your deck. & learn how to protect rather then trying to run every turbo build. Build & Practice to your own standards dont justplay something because a big yugituber builds that way. People cant guess or side deck against a personal style. ORIGINALITY WINS!!!!!
Michealla Smith you're not exactly right you make a solid point but there are ppl like me who can adapt to basically any playstyle so copying a deck and ruling with it isnt hard. There are also ppl who can copy a deck and get used to a new playing style so originality isn't everything
I have two reasons 1) I play the cards that i like even if are the biggest piece of shit (The new rainbow dragon) 2) i don't play the cards that i don't like... For example, solemn and any variant of solmen.
im stuck throwing Neo Spacian grand mole in every single deck... i cant stop cause he is very useful and i also play 3 pots all the time (i do not play in competitions cause i find them boring as konami keeps printing new cards and then banning them like why print them if people cant use them?)
Losing is essential to learning. You learn the combos and outs to your deck opponents use. It is then easier to know what's face down through experience, repeated plays become second nature. Play to win but embrace losing
9:03 Really like this point a lot. If you take a look at Joshua Schmidt, one of the best players in Europe, if not the world, you'll notice that during the Zoodiac era, he NEVER played Zoo. He recently mentioned in his True Draco deck profile at YCS Rimini that a large part of the reason was that he personally disliked playing the Zoodiac mirror match. So he always played things that were strong, albeit not as dominant as Zoodiac, and found just as much success as he normally would with decks like Paleozoic and True Draco. Great point to note here, and I thought I'd just throw in a very prominent example to further prove the point. Great video, as always guys, keep it up! :)

Definitely some good advice. When I do go to events finally, I fully plan on getting advice on how to improve what is likely to be my "tourney deck". I already enjoy facing new people, and as I continue learning the meta, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to eke out more wins. Good to know I at least have a decent attitude for all of this.
at my locals i either get out classed by things suchas blue eyes (sort of) and abc's, i beat them out right, or i find those decks that we have to fight for every point of damage. i love those games.

The net decking tip is so true, actually. The internet taught me how Lunalights are built, but practice taught me how they play. I'm currently running 2 Mask Change II and 2 Dark Law.
I'm a BLS Chaos Maxx & Trickstar player. 😎 I tried other decks, but I feel like these decks fit me & my personality. If you don't like your deck, what's the point of playing. I use decks that I enjoy playing with. At the end of the day, its about having fun.
I remember when I was like 11-12 years old and I went to one of those Toys R Us tournaments for the first time and until then I had just played with my friends from school and we played with decks that were too big and unbalanced so I didn't win a single game while I was there but I did learn "Okay, clearly I'm doing stuff wrong because I couldn't win any duels and I usually win a few against my friends". So yeah, I learned from that. Haven't really played much in recent years (played a classmate in high school; lost but it was close and I felt that my deck was properly balanced at that point; plus I had been out of the game for a few years).
I 100% agree with yall about getting used to a tournament environment. I took a break around when Zoo got big and came back not too long ago, but i never made time to play outside of the few homies i have and i got rolled(not entirely but enough) at the YCS Atlanta 3v3. A lot of stupid mistakes and rulings that i didnt understand before i got there, which wouldn't have been an issue if i had taken the time to get better prepared.
When you said brilliant fusion, I immediately thought of having 3 black whirlwinds on board and normal summoning twice to get 6 summons plus if you have nothung out and you normal summon AGAIN that’s 3 searches 😩 absolutely amazing
I haven't been able to get many new cards the last few years. I managed to make a few trades to get some Warrior type Xyz Monsters for my E•HERO/Warrior Beatdown Deck. But now with Links abounding, I need to research which Warrior type Link Monsters would strictly benefit my side of the field if I want to continue with using Xyz. A little research goes a LONG way!! But...even then, there's just some decks that are much better than others. Some old decks I used to run wouldn't stand a chance nowadays, card upgrades or not. Like a Normal Deck with Skill Drain...or Silent Magician lv8 Deck...or even Armed Dragon/Wind Deck... Not to mention I don't have the resources as far as spells & especially traps to really support more than two decks...and for right now, those two are the aforementioned E•HERO/Warrior Beatdown and my Water Beatdown (and by my standards, that water deck is actually incomplete. It could use another Mobius at the very least). MAYBE XYZ Dragon Cannon or VWXYZ Dragon Catapult Cannon can still do the thing (ABCs work similarly, don't they?).
i dont know what to do anymore i used to use zombie synchro but its ruined now and i cant use it anymore cause link format so i went back to a deck i used to use "the troll deck" its a lot better than it sounds its like penguin soldiers, spirit reapers, man-eater bugs, gravity binds, mirror forces etc. but it just dosnt stand up to meta but i really dont have any money as im 13 (cant wait till i can get a job (14) but i have like no money but i know i need a new deck i heard u can by the pendulum evolution booster box and make a tier 1 deck so i was gonna use all my savings and buy a 70$(au) one i found for cheap (normally $100 here) but i just dont like the concept of the deck and i feel like its not for me but than i dont really have a deck for my local weekly tournaments.
I love to play rouge decks because they are fun to play. Meta decks are still fun but I just like rouge better. I usually lose my games in locals and still have never won my locals but I only have been playing competitively for about a year and I'm a kid but this video was great. I love your channel keep the good work up!
straight to the point video,when I started playing meta i went up against the top meta decks and got creamed didn't know what to look out for,so basically went into a match blind folded,when people don't know what they up against they play more cautious .
I like my low-tier decks. If I go up against a meta deck, or an archetype that I just know is more consistent, I don't take it personally when I lose. If I did all I could to make my low-tier archetype as strong as it can be, hey ya win some ya lose some. I just don't like losing in 1 or 2 turns. If I can fend you off for 3 of your turns and you demolish me, oh well ggs. I had to accept that my Fortune Lady deck SUCKED ASS when it came out and still does today. BUT, I was able to be slightly below anti-meta when I splashed in Spellbook Invoked cards. It was no longer pure, but it was strong and fun.
Hey team aps. i would like to know the different types of decks like combo decks and control decks etc. How to identify them and how to figure out what your playing style is.
Steps to building a deck:Come up with a winning plan, ways to protect that plan, and ways to disrupt your opponent's plan. Remember to give it some versatility so you don't brick.
I just finished beating a Hero deck in Link Format with my Harpies. they had Dark Law and Stratos on board with 1850 life points and Elemental Hero Honesty Neos in hand. I summon Dancer and then use Elegant Egotist to then go into Heartland Draco and attack for game

I lose because I'm not very good. :-) Blue Eyes isn't top tier, but with the modern dragon/blue-eyes support it's fun to play. Sadly Fusion isn't really a thing anymore now Synchro and XYZ is in the game. Galaxy Eyes Dark Matter is so nice.
I play now blackwing now for 5 years and always update it, but also play new decks as well, but it's true that I for example are sometimes not interested or just don't like it and not inform myself about the new meta. (sry for my bad englisch)
I got third last Friday when I entered a tournament and that's the highest I've gotten I think. Usually I'd end 2-2 in the past, so I think it can be changed of you try hard enough.
I do follow all the tips here, for the most part! The only thing that irks me is that my friends are SO stubborn. They refuse to play link format, and they complain about my dark magician deck being OP. Feelsbadman. Locals I don't even do bad at. Like 2-1.

It is true. One time I entered a Yugioh tournament and at the same time I was in a Naruto tcg tournament. I won the Yugioh one for my first time without even knowing.
I...Need to change my deck XD considering I have been playing karakuries for 6 years but I also have the issue of when I play I tend to overextend myself to much and use up my resources to soon.
My only deck is a odd eyes (pendulum magicians and performapal combo with it) then phantom knights because that was my first deck that I got as a gift then I just love odd eyes and I have done a lot so that's the deck I'm best with and I like it. People usually wont find that out like in my old school nobody figured out what they wanted to play and got wrecked then me and my other two friends who all three of us figured out what we wanted to play beat all of them so it kinda doesn't help not finding your play style it really doesn't
Number 4 got me today. I was playing against the new vendreads today and honestly I just kept striking the wrong monsters at the wrong times. Was hard to pick between Omega and other monsters. And honestly my deck is about banishing and so the deck he was playing was all about being banished and gaining effects. That's like opposite of my deck lol. Number 6: Maybe the deck you're playing against is just the opposite play style of your deck and it benefits from your decks play style :/
Another reason, and this kinda goes hand-in-hand with #1 and #4: Your deck's a one-trick pony that gets shut down way too easy. Been guilty of that for _far_ too long, even of late. I tend to play character-themed decks, and often times I find myself getting shut off completely by _one card._ The past few weeks I've been running Fluffals (or, as I call it, Five Nights at Sora's), and time and again all it's taken is an Anti-Spell Fragrance or a D. Barrier to shut me down completely because my Extra Deck is _strictly_ Frightfurs. Last night I was undefeated up until the final round, wherein True Dracos put me in my place. Just _seeing_ the D. Barrier off a Duality on their first turn game 2 was enough for me to scoop before he even picked it, because the Sabre-Kraken FTK would've been my only option at that point given the board he would've had on his next turn, and there was no way it was gonna happen with that in my way. Had I done as little as swap 2 of the Fusions out for Utopia and Lightning, I might've been able to manage.
honestly whenever me and my friends go to a tournament we actually get a little annoyed when we end up going up against each other, cause we go to tournaments so we can go up against new people and have a new challenge, and yeah we do test against some other people outside of our friend group but that is usually only on ygopro
There are two guys at my school that play pendulum magicians at my school, i usually always beat one and usually loser to the other because there skill set is differnt and there plays are different.

I love playing Archfiends, Using lightsworns to mill to the grave and setup combos.

I have a friend who doesnt want to play links because he plays elemental heroes so this spoke to me on a spiritual level lol

i dont know what to do anymore i used to use zombie synchro but its ruined now and i cant use it anymore cause link format so i went back to a deck i used to use "the troll deck" its a lot better than it sounds its like penguin soldiers, spirit reapers, man-eater bugs, gravity binds, mirror forces etc. but it just dosnt stand up to meta but i really dont have any money as im 13 (cant wait till i can get a job (14) but i have like no money but i know i need a new deck i heard u can by the pendulum evolution booster box and make a tier 1 deck so i was gonna use all my savings and buy a 70$(au) one i found for cheap (normally $100 here) but i just dont like the concept of the deck and i feel like its not for me but than i dont really have a deck for my local weekly tournaments.

I love to play rouge decks because they are fun to play. Meta decks are still fun but I just like rouge better. I usually lose my games in locals and still have never won my locals but I only have been playing competitively for about a year and I'm a kid but this video was great. I love your channel keep the good work up!

This goes for most games, I came back to duel links after stopping at season 3 and the meta decks from back then get destroyed now
it may not be nessary to run the meta decks but it helps you understand how to beat them better

straight to the point video,when I started playing meta i went up against the top meta decks and got creamed didn't know what to look out for,so basically went into a match blind folded,when people don't know what they up against they play more cautious .

I like my low-tier decks. If I go up against a meta deck, or an archetype that I just know is more consistent, I don't take it personally when I lose. If I did all I could to make my low-tier archetype as strong as it can be, hey ya win some ya lose some. I just don't like losing in 1 or 2 turns. If I can fend you off for 3 of your turns and you demolish me, oh well ggs. I had to accept that my Fortune Lady deck SUCKED ASS when it came out and still does today. BUT, I was able to be slightly below anti-meta when I splashed in Spellbook Invoked cards. It was no longer pure, but it was strong and fun.

Steps to building a deck:Come up with a winning plan, ways to protect that plan, and ways to disrupt your opponent's plan. Remember to give it some versatility so you don't brick.
I just finished beating a Hero deck in Link Format with my Harpies.
they had Dark Law and Stratos on board with 1850 life points and Elemental Hero Honesty Neos in hand. I summon Dancer and then use Elegant Egotist to then go into Heartland Draco and attack for game

Blue Eyes isn't top tier, but with the modern dragon/blue-eyes support it's fun to play. Sadly Fusion isn't really a thing anymore now Synchro and XYZ is in the game. Galaxy Eyes Dark Matter is so nice.
At the tournament. I love blackwings, there awesome. I love evil heros too.
I play now blackwing now for 5 years and always update it, but also play new decks as well, but it's true that I for example are sometimes not interested or just don't like it and not inform myself about the new meta. (sry for my bad englisch)
One thing this channel is different is the intros are often spicy instead of the same thing every video.

I do follow all the tips here, for the most part! The only thing that irks me is that my friends are SO stubborn. They refuse to play link format, and they complain about my dark magician deck being OP. Feelsbadman. Locals I don't even do bad at. Like 2-1.

My only deck is a odd eyes (pendulum magicians and performapal combo with it) then phantom knights because that was my first deck that I got as a gift then I just love odd eyes and I have done a lot so that's the deck I'm best with and I like it. People usually wont find that out like in my old school nobody figured out what they wanted to play and got wrecked then me and my other two friends who all three of us figured out what we wanted to play beat all of them so it kinda doesn't help not finding your play style it really doesn't

lol haven't been playing longer than me, been playing literally since day 1.
Number 4 got me today. I was playing against the new vendreads today and honestly I just kept striking the wrong monsters at the wrong times. Was hard to pick between Omega and other monsters. And honestly my deck is about banishing and so the deck he was playing was all about being banished and gaining effects. That's like opposite of my deck lol.
Number 6: Maybe the deck you're playing against is just the opposite play style of your deck and it benefits from your decks play style :/

Another reason, and this kinda goes hand-in-hand with #1 and #4: Your deck's a one-trick pony that gets shut down way too easy. Been guilty of that for _far_ too long, even of late. I tend to play character-themed decks, and often times I find myself getting shut off completely by _one card._
The past few weeks I've been running Fluffals (or, as I call it, Five Nights at Sora's), and time and again all it's taken is an Anti-Spell Fragrance or a D. Barrier to shut me down completely because my Extra Deck is _strictly_ Frightfurs. Last night I was undefeated up until the final round, wherein True Dracos put me in my place. Just _seeing_ the D. Barrier off a Duality on their first turn game 2 was enough for me to scoop before he even picked it, because the Sabre-Kraken FTK would've been my only option at that point given the board he would've had on his next turn, and there was no way it was gonna happen with that in my way.
Had I done as little as swap 2 of the Fusions out for Utopia and Lightning, I might've been able to manage.

honestly whenever me and my friends go to a tournament we actually get a little annoyed when we end up going up against each other, cause we go to tournaments so we can go up against new people and have a new challenge, and yeah we do test against some other people outside of our friend group but that is usually only on ygopro
There are two guys at my school that play pendulum magicians at my school, i usually always beat one and usually loser to the other because there skill set is differnt and there plays are different.

+Adam Alfonso They're not allowed to be sold, so you have to win them as prizes or entry packs. You _can_ buy them online, too, though it's sometimes pricey.
