      Team APS 1.its a card game and a computer game YGOPRO etc 2. it is fundamentally important to know how to read and have a tad bit of common sense 3. you will get robbed if you're inattentive at locals or regionals or both 4. it's an expensive game 5. this game actually requires the manual for lots of rules and will have unheard of rules which are written by konami on their yugioh website 6. reading beyond the manual is important i.e. rulings of certain cards 7. the game changes in waves 8. it's a trading card game so instead of just buying everything you want try to trade as well.

      Where do u get the specific decks you need? For example i want a geargia deck but the structure deck is pretty bad.
      so how do i get that Budget deck profile and that exact cards, do i get em all online individually or buy decks online? or just buy packs?

    • @dynamicdiode1740
      @dynamicdiode1740 7 лет назад

      Keven Hernandez so two ways individually or people sell prebuilt decks on Amazon and eBay. if you're looking for particular rarities etc better off buying individually because unfortunately people will rip you off. the best way to buy cards individually is looking up the market of yugioh cards on : Yugioh Prices website or app then look at retail prices versus individual sellers. hope this helps. i built all my decks this way then traded what i didn't need to other players IN PERSON no online trades or at least i learned my lesson from online trades got my Slifer robbed like that

    5 things to know before you play yugioh:
    1. mst negates
    2. main deck 3 winged dragon of ra sphere mode in every deck
    3. if you have no monsters on the field you can summon dark magician and declare a direct attack therefore you win.
    4. Play "maxx c" if your opponent activates pot of duality.
    5. You can only activate magic cylinder if you have dark magician girl on the field since only herself can hold it.
    Nuff said.

      The LP loss is not a cost, just like discarding due to Dark World Dealings isn't a cost. Because Konami is on drugs.

    • @Marcusjnmc
      @Marcusjnmc 7 лет назад +1

      Dark World Dealings' purpose is to put a card in the grave, that's it's relevant effect, the only reason you draw one 1st is a neg 2 to get a grave effect would be weak as hell

    • @casketbase7750
      @casketbase7750 7 лет назад +3

      I'm not talking about the purpose of cards, just the wording. I just used Dark World Dealings as an example of a rare card where discarding is not a cost.

    My tip: If you take a break from Yugioh, keep following the game. If you don't the game will be really hard to get back into because 90% of what you used to play will not be viable at all.

    • @JohnDoe-wy4zj
      @JohnDoe-wy4zj 7 лет назад +1

      Someone could argue that doesn't really count as taking a break though.

    • @jirehjirehjirehjireh
      @jirehjirehjirehjireh 7 лет назад

      True. I would say just keep an eye on like 1/2 YugiTubers. And if a new super OP card/archetype is announced. You don't gotta buy new cards or play, but just seeing a thumbnail that says "Zoodiacs Tier 0" helps you know whats out there and what you wanna play when you decide to pick the game up again. I stopped playing for like 1 1/2 years and it took me a good minute to get acclimated to the new meta again and all the crazy new techs and stuff.

    • @romkin1197
      @romkin1197 7 лет назад

      @John Doe taking a break from the game. So you're taking a break from playing, you can still follow Yu-Gi-Oh! news and be taking a break with the game.

    • @Monty2289
      @Monty2289 7 лет назад +1

      Taking a break from the game and taking a break from YGO is the same thing. You don't have to be unplugged from YGO entirely to take a break. Being familiar with the game already and following news simply gives you an info map that tells you where to start from if you want to pick up back playing it. Or even seeing new spins on old things like all of the Fusion and Ritual stuff. You may look at a Yugi-tuer talking about them and it might peak your interest.
      Living under a rock about anything and then coming out to play isn't a good idea.

    • @shawnjavery
      @shawnjavery 7 лет назад

      This game power creeps at a pretty fast and interesting way. I'd suggest you just do research on a deck before building one after getting back in.

    When I look at how expensive this game is, like I love the game, but I don't "spend $600+ to build a good deck" love it. If I were to actually buy a deck, you can bet I'm gonna get all those cards in the lowest rarity possible because I'm not paying hundreds of dollars just so all my cards can be shiny. Shiny or not, they still work the same way.
    As far as metas and the ban list, I ignore both of those and just play with the cards that I want to use. I really don't care what Konami says is banned, since I just play the game with my friends anyway.

    • @bryand.5240
      @bryand.5240 7 лет назад +2

      Blue Sparx that's the thing with cost, the decks don't cost $600+ because people get the rarest version, they cost that much because many of the necessary cards for a deck are single print cards, for example, Zoodiacs use Zoodiacs Barrage, which is a $100 card that has only been printed once, so to play a competitive build you absolutely need a playset which ends up being $300 for those three cards because there is no cheaper version of the card, this is true for every single meta deck, my blue eyes build was $850, but if I went out and bought the rarest version of each card I'd be in the $2000+ range

    • @BlueSparxLPs
      @BlueSparxLPs 7 лет назад

      Yea, I'm aware. I just used rarities as an example because I can't believe people would add extra cost on such expensive cards just to make them more aesthetically pleasing. I would never spend more than a couple dollars on a single card. It just isn't worth it.

    • @bryand.5240
      @bryand.5240 7 лет назад +1

      Blue Sparx to you that is, at my workplace a lot of the people in office play as well as I do and all of our decks are in the $500+ range, but if you go to locals there's tons of kids with $50-100 decks, they play what they can afford for their playstyle, not going to tell a 14 year old to spend $500 on a deck, but I'm not going to recommend a $50 deck to someone who can afford the meta

      Mr. Señor damn i thought i was going all out for spending 30 bucks on toon kingdom.

    • @BlueSparxLPs
      @BlueSparxLPs 7 лет назад

      Yea, it seems really excessive. And I forgot to mention my other issue with this is that you spend all that money on the cards, and then they become useless when the next meta rolls in and forces you to buy even more overpriced decks.

  • @AccelerationYGO
    @AccelerationYGO 7 лет назад +1

    I completely agree with you on knowing the mechanics. I always learn the mechanics and even if I don't play the deck its still useful to know. It also helps mentally as you won't get as intimidated or worried because you know whats going on, rather than just cards going everywhere and you're confused. If you expect to win against the meta with an old deck I think it would be best to atleast go into like ygopro or something and use those meta decks and learn how the operate and learn the combos and then, you as a player will develop. Atleast that's what I believe :)

    I think playing DevPro is a good way to start out if you're coming back after a long time out, or just starting out. It gives you access to any card you want, allows you to experiment and see what you like, and it spoonfeeds you rulings and card effects basically, allows you to spend time getting used to this kind of stuff before you jump in, and then you can take it up to locals from there.

  • @geargone

    I have to say that Hobbies are expensive but it does not have to be. I honestly feel that we should be able to use Japanese cards from the ocg.

    • @geargone
      @geargone 7 лет назад +1

      Lmao I've played Yugioh since it was been released. However, it's Not What I meant. Ocg cards are greatly cheaper due to the rarity difference. For example, I would rather pay $10 bucks for a zoodiac barrage from japan rather hen $70+ In the tcg. Sadly you're unable to play ocg copies in the tcg which does not make sense to me as it's simply corporate greed. It would not bug me if the card pools were the Identical between ocg and tcg.

    One thing I can appreciate about YuGiOh is that there are certain decks that are completely anti-meta, but when they're played against a meta deck they can actually pop off and have the meta player rage quit. I play a Red deck on ygo pro and I have gotten a few times that a meta player actually had a good field but got beaten by just me getting one synchro off.

    Before Hurricane Ike, I had around 6000 cards(structure decks, starter decks, booster packs and grab bag assorted). I even had a pre-legal Ra(ordered a 100cnt grab bag, they sent me Ra in a solid plastic sleeve😀. Contacted them, for free they sent me my order☺). I even had the Duel Masters Guide collection(with my favorite card; Dark Paladin😀).
    But....after Ike came and went, looters robbed my home, one thing they stole was my entire card collection😞).
    Well, that's long past
    Anyway. My favorite deck style, best I can describe, is a combo of spellcaster/warrior/dragon, as evidence of my favorite card☺. I'm the kind(or at least I used to be, before finances became tight), that prefers to have as large a collection as possible to amalgamate my combo deck☺(find out what works best with my desired build).
    I have a few cards right now, and will someday rebuild my collection☺. I now have a *legal* Ra😀.

    Great video guys, keep up the content. I'm personally stuck hard between competitive and casual because of where I live and my schedule. When I move to university I imagine I'll be going in more competitive route, but building some fun decks too, but with Link summoning I imagine I'll be playing around with some older decks to see if they will be more competitive.

      Link Format - Zoodiac, Mermail, Kozmo, Lawn Noid etc. Links didn't even slow the game down, only dumbed and reduced the viable card pool as a cash grab.

    • @Marcusjnmc
      @Marcusjnmc 7 лет назад

      Links weaken turn 1 boards & slow down the rate at which decks can make multiple plays in a turn, & turn 1 stun can be an autowin which is a lot harder to accomplish after links, & Mermails aren't exactly brand new, links make the game slower relative to where it is now and increase the viability of some older decks, OTK plays have been part of the game since before synchros, for links slow doesn't mean more turns, it means doing less in 1 turn

    I have a question. For the longest I have been back and forth between competitive and Local hobby level of dueling. I find MUCH more fun in dueling locals, lower stakes, but you see a MUCH larger variety of rogue decks and deck combinations, opposed to everyone using 3-4 different decks over and over (not that THAT is bad, it has to be this way, just look at Online games, some weapons are MUCH better than others and duh, you use the best) But the question is, what does everyone in the community prefer, the cheaper, more accessible level or the hyper competitive level. I, Personally find more enjoyment in locals. Much more friendly, and i love sharing my expertise with newer players (i love teaching and being a mentor)

    Talking about games that can get stale, it is MODERN magic. You will always have like Burn or Infect in top tier. Every now and then someone will build a glass canon, come out of nowhere and take the month by storm, but then after all the top tiers lost to the deck 4-5 times, it's weaknesses will be exploited and we will just be back to the usual top tier decks such as Affinity, Infect, Burn, Urza Tron - so forth. Each deck might just run slight variants. But yea. Not saying it is bad because there will always be the surprise factor as mentioned. But in Yugioh stuff is always changing. Both are great games though. Just interesting to see the differences in meta formats.

    I have a ton of old cards and probably won't expand my collection any time soon.
    But what's cool is that I can build several totally viable decks that can play well against each other.
    So I can still play with friends, just without the newest and best cards.
    It's kind of like playing in the past.

Granted maybe after 2-3 years, but it will happen again, and again...typical questions I ask are "do you want to PLAY? Or do you want to WIN?" Playing is easy, buy a structure deck and use it. Winning in this game costs money, sometimes way too much. I'll stick with my "jank" decks ( that I spent hundreds on over the years, that are now "worthless"). I can still use those, at least for now.
    Since the game does keep changing, buy a Link Structure deck (not the starter, wait for the structure deck) and just use it until the next change comes out. Otherwise, find players who are "okay" with playing in the same format/era as the cards you have. No point at throwing more money at Konami, or the secondary market, when things change everyday in this game. Or just find another game...but Yu-Gi-Oh! is one expensive hobby. Yes, its a hobby people. I said it.
    I'll look into the costs of other games. EDIT: Seems like all card games are expensive (when it comes to the CCG/TCG variety). Only cheap ones are the "boxed" board game style ones, with a limited card pool to use. Maybe try that style of game, if you're on a budget. You won't find it being "cheap" in any of the CCG/TCG games out there. Good luck to all!

    I have a serious question. I just recently started to get back into yugioh so i ordered some sleeves. Everyone told me that pc whites were the best so thats what i got. Later i found out that their were different sizes ( i got standard ) So my question is, should i just trash them? Or is it acceptable to use standard sized sleeves instead of Mini (Yugioh) sized?

      @darkarkeyblader7502 7 лет назад

      Variants or not, you don't start seeing cards other than the standard Zoo combo that I'm sure everyone and their dog has memorized at this point until Turn 3-4 (assuming it even gets to that point) and I know the Paleo thing. 'Tis the reason I put 95%. I acknowledge that there's a lil' bit that isn't Zoo, but they're really obscured thanks to, you guessed it, Zoo.

    • @Marcusjnmc
      @Marcusjnmc 7 лет назад +1

      Zoodiacs have been out for like a month, chill, complain if they're still dominating in 6, which tbf they might be, but with different builds

    • @Marcusjnmc
      @Marcusjnmc 7 лет назад

      & the Zoo combo isn't standardised either, there are variations & summon orders to play around certain cards like ghost ogre & ways to gain more advantage, some people even play sub optimal versions of the combo to bait out opposing options or smokescreen a follow up play or tech

    • @Monty2289
      @Monty2289 7 лет назад +1

      But that statement is true. Any deck at a peak near tier 0 capacity isn't going to be that way for a long time. Sometimes as short as 3 months. THen those 95% of players have to scramble to move on to the next big thing which is especially hectic in terms of the market.

    Hello everybody, me and my brother wanted to play again after a 2, almost 3 years hiatus from yugioh. We saw that blue eyes and dark magician are recieving some really neat support and for nostalgia value wanted to play them (we don't plan on competitive, just locals, mainly for lack of time). Are they viable or do they get stomped from everything under the sun? And what changes did we miss? Last time I played was ycs 2014 with qliphort so I know pendulums at least. Thanks for the help.

    My trouble with Prices is only on nonsplashable cards
    Spent $75 dollars on 3 strike, but every $30 to $50 budget deck I build can have those strikes with out costing me. And if strike gets hit to 1 I will now have 2 to trade away. The price fall may go from $25 to $20 so I will get back most of the vaule I spent on it.
    BUT if you get a $40 center piece card to a deck that only works with its archtype, then the archtype is killed on the ban list, the card becomes useless and pluments in price. So I can no longer use it and I can not get vaule back for it.
    That is my problem. a card prices. It lead me to stop playing major decks cause when Konami took the dates off the ban list I went from turning cards for 75% of what I got for to 10% so I could no longer afford it

      Sdgtdp you don't have to use the other mechanics just understand how they work. some deck use xys summoning some use synchro summoning others do fusion or pendulum summoning. then there are other decks that don't even use either of those mechanics.

    Only one thing to know, really.
    1. If your opponent starts an OTK with a years-long card-combo, just activate a MST. Say you negate.
    This can cause one of two scenarios:
    1. Your opponent blindly ragequits and you win the duel.
    Or 2. Your opponent asks which card you want to negate.
    If your opponent asks which card is negated, you´re fucked.

      Zero Ace Noids run three copies as well as Left Arm Offering to make it work. The advantage it generates is obscene. Some decks like Paleo and Minervasworn make use of it as well. 60 also isnt too bad if you're running multiple desires + grass looks greener

    • @bryand.5240
      @bryand.5240 7 лет назад

      Emek Sancar my blue eyes and dark world decks are considered "slow" in the current meta, but can end games by the 2-3rd turn, if my opponent goes first I can usually win 1st turn with blue eyes or if I brick I can pull off a 2-3rd turn win, very fast, but slow against current tier 1 decks, so if you prefer the slower grind game of the GX era I don't really recommend any new sets since they don't cater to that crowd any more, look around your town and see if any shops hold casual events, one of my local shops has cross banlist tourneys and I love playing with my 2004 Chaos Deck

      the current meta is relatively slow, because Zoodiacs dominate, D.Barrier & Strike are at 3 so OTK combos can be frozen or interrupted, & my body as a shield can prevent board wipe based OTKs which are among the most common, the main difference is the person going 1st can pull 3 extra cards from their deck after thinning it by 3 so have an advantage in the grind game and are more likely to win, yes you can lose in a turn, but sometimes it can come down to chipping around 1200-4200 at a time over 5, & the player interaction playing out resources is a huge part of the match up in deciding who wins

    One thing that should of went along is, dont shit on what other people play. What I mean by that is, if you like playing casual dont shit on your friend who likes to play meta. Same goes for if you like playing meta dont shit on your friend who plays casual.
    My friends and I play decks we love, some are casual, some end up using meta cards. My friend who plays mostly casual decks cuz meta decks "arent fun" to play against and shits on one of us (primarily me) who uses high end cards (like d barrier) before and after he loses to the deck. Its not our fault that he wont run more competitive cards/decks, just like him we use cards we love. (None of us use Zoos or true draco. What we use are, heroes, shinobird, harpies, ddd's, spyral, galaxys, zarc, yosenju, superheavies, dinomist, sharks, cyber angels) Yet our friend gets mad when we win. He wants all duels to be 50/50 but thats not how it works then wont play against certain decks we have because theyre "not fun" when the only problem is, if he ran better techs or you know more meta cards his decks can compete with ours but hed rather us dumb down our decks to be only "casual"
