I cannot agree more with your final point. I'm so six of all the yugi/kaiba merchandise. These following years, I'd like to see: A pair of jaden and Zane mega tins, then yusei and jack, then yuma and kaito, then yuya and whoever else is in that show, then maybe a yusaku/(insert rival here)

Matthew Withers well really I just want a secret rare alternate art Stardust dragon, my favorite monster! And a yusei run seems to be the best way. That being said, I like your idea. I think that Idea would work best for the arts that come with multiple pre constructed decks though.
As a returning yu gi oh player and a current magic player its quite refreshing to see that both games have very similar issues plaguing the player base . I'm not that well versed in yu gi oh decks but solitare decks in magic are annoying as hell as you can sit there watching them play magic by themselves for 20 minutes and still not kill you.
I'm pretty sure people like Heroes because: a) they look cool b) they're a fusion archetype and have plenty of tools to help with that (besides Fusion Gate) c) Jaden used Heroes d) any combination of the above
Jaden is objectively the worst, most annoying protagonist, rivaled only by Yuma, yet HEROs and Utopia are my favorite eras. Sorry Yusei, you're cool and all, but a big white dragon is kinda overplayed.
I love heroes because everyone knows them, I love gx and theres soo many fun ways to build them. The fusion mechanic is frightfurs and all that are fun, but heroes are fusions with multiple cool mechanics and combos that are super easy to build.
I also want spellbook of judgement back. Also, you look really nerdy with the Sonic shirt and the glasses while talking about a children's trading card game, and it's magnificent.
I personally love HEROes and Six Samurai, but for me, growing up, my favorite season was GX of the anime and when I went back to finally finish watching the series, I decided to look up some of the cards for it and that led me to finding out about the Masked HEROes which I immediately fell in love with because I am a massive fan of Kamen Rider which Masked HEROes are based on, so for me, that was actually what got me back into the game. The same can be said for Super Quantum. I also just find the decks fun with the idea of having this squad of what are basically superheroes as my fighting force. I even put a kaiju in my Super Quantum deck just so I could finish a duel with my megazord taking down a giant monster. In regards to Six Samurai, for me it comes from a show I watched growing up called Ronin Warriors. I loved this show as a kid and again, it's a lot due to the idea of having kind of card versions of these characters that I loved as a kid or even now as my deck.
Number 2 was exactly what I ran into when I went into tournaments. Some people were just that willing to jump down my throat over me not having exactly the cards that they would use and such. I totally agree with you and sympathize with you there.
I love Heroes for the fact that even though I was born during the original series I grew up more with and closer to GX and I just thought that Jaden was the best in my opinion plus I love superheroes so I always have Loved the Hero deck I have both a straight Elemental Hero Deck and Masked Hero which is the only real deck I play right but that's just cause I have the most fun with it
Born into GX era started playing the card game in ARC-V era yet GX is my favourite Yu-Gi-Oh series the crystal beast cards and Jesse are what stopped me from committing no longer live for just long enough to make friends and enjoy life again.
We need more other generation support, I understand the original is the original and it made yugioh what it is today, but Gx is my favorite and the true special (non booster) gx themed set was Legendary Collection 2, while theres like 3 Legendary collections based on the original and every year theres like a kaiba and yugi structure deck and all those.
Honestly I don't do it often but I sometime shuffle cards in my hand when my opponent takes a while, it's just like tapping on the table or your leg fidgeting when you're sitting down, it's because of impatience
Oh my God. This is round about the 25th video i have wached now and i try to get into yugioh again. I played it while 5d`s was realesed for about 2-3 years and really enjoyed it. Then I quit and started playing again since like last week or so. And your channel is just amazing. At first i was like hmmm their vidoes are ok fun to watch but not that exciting i dont know, but now after i really watched more and more videos u rapidly became my favourite Yugi Channel. GOAT is a solved format. How can a solved format require more skill than un unsolved, ever changing one? GOAT is fun. Nostalgic as the word makes clear, are OLDER players. Older players always think they are more skilled and try to hold on to the past. Before December '16 ,I had last played Yu-Gi-Oh in '05. I am only now starting to grasp the game in its current state and I can understand why GOAT players are holding on to the format and trying to justify not making the effort to learn something new with "more skilful". The flip side is that anyone that denies that KoMONEY has been power-creeping the hell out of the game to sell more cards is a complete ignoramus. GOAT is more skilful is equivalent to "there are only 151 Pokemon".
tbf many new players also like GOAT because they want to also play an older form of the game after getting into Yugioh, the expanding playerbase is one of the things that contributes to rising prices
I have to agree with your last opinion, they really have been focusing on the classic rivalry between Kaiba and Yugi. As much as I love the classic rivalry they had and all the new prints of cards, it getting old, like you said I like to see characters like Joey or jaden and Chazz or anyone else.
With all due respect, Spellbook of Judgment needs to stay banned. If you bring back judgement then you have to bring back Super Rejuvenation since it literally does the same thing
In regards to #1, I think the Legendary Decks are fine. The most recent one still had Yugi, but, also Zane and Yuya, and it’s probably the best way to get all the Legendary Dragon stuff. With that said, they could do something different like put Marik and Bakura on their products. Those two always seem to be on people’s best YGO antagonists lists, so I’d wager that products featuring them would sell.
Yes! Glad that you brought up the Yugi and Kaiba thing. I think that also ties with the opinion people have of missing "old Yu Gi Oh." To me, it feels like Konami is trying really really hard to bank on nostalgia... But it really doesn't work all that well when they do it all the time. Here's the thing, if you want to bank on the nostalgia of a specific point in your series, be it a game, an anime, whatever, you have to allow for time to pass before you start banking on it. You can't just flood the market with six or seven goddamn variants of Blue Eyes and Dark Magician that you're releasing every other week. There's the problem. I feel like Konami isn't confident enough to LET GO of classic YGO when moving forward. If you sit down and look at the releases of structure decks, tins, collections, and whatnot, Yugi has made a very regular act of presence. I think that they should really just push the new stuff. It's ok to have a blast from the past but for crying out loud, Konami, don't just bombard us with it. Give people time to actually GET nostalgic about it and yearn for the "good ol' days" before you release a product that is meant to bank on such nostalgia. You know, there used to be a time, years ago before I went on hiatus, when I thought "man, sure would be nice if Blue Eyes or DM got more support!" and boyyyy did they. It's almost bloated at this point. I know I'm personally passing on those latest Mega Tins cause I already have like five or six different Yugi/Kaiba decks.

the D-heroes we got were NOTHING like the originals though. trying to play the old with them would be wasting decks space. it's more a redesign than support, which god knows is what it needed, but its a shame to see.
I'm not sure if this is unpopular/controversial, but I see people talking about banning gofu and level eater cause they are really good for links. I disagree with this. Not many people even play these cards in decks, and therefore I do not think they should be banned. Gofu is basically a link 3 monster. However, do make a link 3 you need to run 2 link spiders. This is unnecessary, wasteful, and so far hasn't proved to be broken.
I think for the most part people want it hit as a preemptive hit so we don't have another terrortop situation and because the OCG also had both those cards at least limited (level eater might be banned but I can't remember atm)
+jerry han Wholly agreed! People cry wolf way too preemptively. Gofu is far from broken an hasn't done anything meaningful in tournaments so far. Like I said in my banlist video, it's better to wait and see.
people have been calling for level eater to be banned forever, they just either watch too many youtube combo videos or see a 30 step OTK as more of a problem than a 4 step OTK fsr even though the 4 step OTK is much stronger in this game.
Goat Format original old days witness here... and i can testify and confirm with my still fresh memory that said format is indeed O V E RR A T E D as all hell i'm sorry, and here's why...... imagine having basically 90 percent cocky cutter Chaos CED decks everywhere - less variety than usually 3 decks dominating -, imagine having TER summoned the cheapest way possible like 90 percent of the times, meaning all the matchs will be NoAttacks and Pass, imagine having almost no ways out or counters for it except just Compulse, TT, limited Raigeky, limited DarkHole, Magic Jammer, Cursed Seal and Heavens Wrath... Bottomless wouldn't work, Solemn Judgement even at 3 would just burn yor LP's for a sacky burn card for game, imagine integrating EXODIA consistent shenainigans to TER lock, imagine having mostly beaters the deal with all that.....sounds like fun right XD. That being said I'm personally more nostalgic for 5D'S ERA Formats, the synchros felt like an universal not really overwhelming version of GladBeasts shenainignas with the correct measure of powercreep, the days when Skill did mostly matter whatever you were using, the days when Vanity was at 3 cause it was supossely sucky and it was all you needed to play slower decks.... the days when ALL kinds of decks from the first 3 gen were mostly able to compite and make a fair run of anyone's money at all events, the days when the only really powerfull synchro based dack was Infernity and even then it had 2 big weaknesses - hand advantage and graveyard shenainigans -...... the days when CardGamesOnMotorcycles were actually awesome to watch .... - and now, my soul is at peace.... -
Upopular opinion : I like the fact that Konami is trying to slow the game down and prevent the stupidly unbreakable boards of the past. But a new summoning mechanic that literally fucks over ANY deck that cannot summon more than 2 monsters every turn is not the way i would go about doing it. Links have killed so many decks and it is sad.

actually quite enjoyed this video. guess ill give my opinions. 1) agree for most things. i still think judgement would put them at tier 1, but, its not like they werent unbeatable in their own format anyway. 2) yea. true doe. 3) i know i have all these habits lol. cards in hand legit reason, knowing advantage to make certain plays. no real reason for graveyard fanning and hand shuffling, picked up the habits when i was like 9 watching jt the underdog. i mean, maybe if your playing someone who cant do it, it can be intimidating... 4) goat format alright, not the greatest. having more knowledge of certain cards though i would say always makes you a better player. 5) maybe... decks like final countdown still annoying af tho. 6)mmm...mhm, idk if i believe you... i know you a big city/little city player for life... also tbf... its stratos's time...7)mmm... i know worse companies... maybe... 8) very true. although. i think whats lame is when konami keeps them around for 2 years... or any elongated period of time. stale formats are lame... not the deck itself. 9)at a point i agree... 2006 and before for sure. my ideal time is 2009-2011... definitely when i felt the game was fast enough without being at a point where advantage and reading means nothing. 10) it doesnt really bother me... like... whats a tin. im too poor for that stuff.

I'd prefer Konami to keep cards on the ban list until power creep says they can come off, and give us replacements with an errata'd effect instead of errata-ing the effect of the card itself just to take it off the ban list. A part of me would also like Fish and Sea Serpent to be errata'd into Aqua Type, and maybe Wyrm errata'd into Dragon.
As a hand-shuffler, you are 100% correct! I saw some other players do it, thought it looked cool, and then practiced it to emulate the action. I honestly didn’t realize it portrayed myself, to other players, as pompous. I really just thought it was a fun fidget maneuver. And in the case that my opponent is running discard tech, I don’t want them to keep track of what I’ve added to my hand, via search. I too, fan-out my GY, but I only do that to check. If an opponent does it too much, take advantage of it; they’re clearly trying to set up something, but are missing pieces of their combo.
Yeah but I’ve heard tons of people ask for cards in hand and I respond with none or just one and then the player just ends their turn and doesn’t make any sort of play that would require knowledge of any of my potential responses. It’s one of those annoying like those people that have some sort of disease that causes them to constantly throw/shuffle/bend/fan out/ their cards all over the place.
I’ve been getting back into Yu-Gi-Oh! lately. I was in middle school when the original series and cards came out. Never watched GX until now. I started collecting cards again and trying to learn all the new rules and revamp my deck to make it somewhat better.
Because not everything is hate, I love six samurais and heroes but I'm not gonna hate you for your opinion Paul, and I'd gladly give you MY reasons to like both of those archetypes.

I don't know if you've actually ever played the old or classic game, going off some of the opinions you've expressed it might have been before your time, but the game is in no way shape form or fashion more "interactive" now. Hand traps existed in cards like Kuriboh, which was a staple for competitive play, and gravekeeper's watcher and nothing about Kaijus are original; lava golem has been around for a while. The concept of "helmet decks" may have changed your opinion on what a good card is but i think people who are expressing the displeasure of Konami's ban list are feeling the negative effects of 'create new broken deck ban it 6 months later' money grab formula being implemented that in your video you say we should just accept since its "always" been like that. the thing is it hasn't, and while some of the fanfare you see for the goat format is nostalgia this era was the last before Konami realized they could milk their player base for money buy reprinting and destroying the value of what at the time were collector's items. I can rant for hours on this but almost all of your points bleed into each other but being a newer player you can't see the forest from the trees. there's a reason every year Konami is reprinting cards and featuring characters from that boring way less skillful era of yugioh that just doesn't stop making them money. i don't wholeheartedly disagree with all your opinions but i think you might not be observing the issues with the right amount of empathy. my own opinions Goat format was the best, terms like helmet or gimmick deck didn't exist; ALL cards were fair game Broken cards shouldn't be created to be banned after I've wasted my money on them since it was the only way to play competitively All cards should at least be at 1. I think what would be cool, if they did say a bakora or a bandit Keith deck would be if they were generic support for fiends and machine monsters, we haven't seen some basic type support in so long, and generally is that form of support that gets used and helps tons of other decks.
I find it interesting you bring up hand shuffling, because I picked up doing it because people in the game I looked up to did it as well, now, after doing it for so long, I find it helps me think out plays and things just because it's now a habit that I have to hand shuffle.
I have an opinion that's apparently unpopular, and it makes my upset that it is; I don't really care if Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, Vanguard, Pokemon etc. is "better" than other card games. Just play the ones you want to, and don't attack those who like to play others. It's a matter of preference and I personally know how to and am happy to play all 4 of the aforementioned games.
I will tap into this comment and say I stand with that statement, anyone going out of their way to hate a different card game then they are interested in is a lame and I have stated this at my locals many times and never had a viable response in doing so because it's fucking foolish and most of them are cowards. You need to focus on more important things like your life if you're bashing other people for their preferences.

About that rapid hand shuffling part and so on, here is my opinion. I just recently transitioned from online to paper mtg and I just enjoy the tactile nature. Little things like having a personal system how I organize my board, tapping cards, and the sound cards make when you place them are what make the game for me. So if I saw someone ask cards in hand or fan graveyards for no reason, I'd just attribute it to them immersing themselves in the card game.
Not to justify the hate, but I think people hate burn and stall and alternate win condition decks because sometimes it's just not possible to beat them and it gives you a loss knowing that that person who beat you isn't going to top. Basically it feels like they stole a round from you by playing something that's not going to top. If you draw no outs to royal magical library game 1 and 3 and exodia beats you, you kinda feel cheated. But that's just my two cents. Great video
GreyShadow Ori I totally respect this point of view. That's a great point, and I've actually felt that way in regionals before. To be fair, I definitely don't love facing the decks and I'm glad Konami seems to have tamed most of them from the past.
Team APS I'm happy they have kept those decks in check enough so they won't ever top (Sorry Worlds) but look ahead and I see a deck like Trickstar being meta and it's burn focused..... but at that point once it's meta there's no excuse to not have a side deck for it.
GreyShadow Ori And that's really it. The alternate win conditions are relatively easy to side against. I can get the "boring" or frustrating part of facing down an alt deck. However, they are not unstoppable. That being said, if you get caught slippin, I don't feel bad for you. I mean, you can't possibly side for every possible deck you may encounter. But decisions were made. Either you did not perceive these decks as a threat, which is on you for underestimating your opponent; or you didn't know that these alt decks were out here, which is also on you because it's the 21st century and google is your friend. Lol Either way, decisions were made and we have to live with our choices, and move on. Or not. It's whatever. This is your world, I just live in it. Lol To be clear, and in the interest of full disclosure...I am a back up burn player (I also play Six Sams😜, but mainly D/D/D right now). Just putting my two cents out there. I definitely agree with the yugi kaiba opinion. It was a refresher to hear that the next legendary decks didn't just have yugi and kaiba, but Yuya and Zane. Sure we still have a yugi deck in it, but it's only slightly annoying now seeing as it's support for the Atlantean Dragons. Would have been cooler if it Yusei or Jack. Maybe the next legendary decks could be based on Villain characters?
I think Primal Origins format was the best. You had so many viable decks, such as Infernity, Fire Fist, Mermail, Mythic Rulers, HAT, Etc. It was a good mix as well, some were really slow but had tonnes of traps and others were fast.
I don't like the more kiddish archetypes designs and I kinda dislike that the card stylings have changed drastically since 5ds which I think is the last truly good yugioh anime since it still had plenty of grit and a character that didn't sound like some 13 year old who hasn't hit puberty
I personally do the rapid hand shuffling because for some reason it helps me focus. I get overloaded by senses easily, too much sound, too many people around me, etc. So shuffling my hand calms me down because it gives my hands something to do and the flicking sound is soothing to me for some reason,
interesting points about the banlist! At my locals we were discussing what could really come off the banlist yesterday: We came to the conclusion to that for the most part apart from the obvious (Pot of greed etc) and some exceptions I'm not bothered to list, most cards from the last few years could either come off completely or could come back to one due to either powercreep or links puts them in check. The list really is a bit of a mess and needs to be cleaned up.

At least from what I know both Yuya and Zane are getting their decks in the next legendary deck collection so thats nice at least
I love Elemental Heroes as well and I have a lot of fun creating decks out of the bricky old heroes and ones from the manga. One thing I never liked though was how HERO is one giant archetype consisting of 5 different types of Heroes. As someone who loves E-Heroes, but finds D-Heroes a boring slog, it feels odd having them now be part of a single archetype.
what does a month matter when you were screwed for six-seven months if you didn't have this deck? Or did you forget about the tournaments when zoo was winning 80-90% of the top 32? OCG had this stuff ban as they realized how bad it was
I have two reasons for shuffling my hand constantly. 1 is when I'm bored, like when my opponent is taking a really long turn. 2, is because I quite often go against decks that have effects that force me to discard, so I shuffle my hand a lot in hopes that my opponent won't discard one of my good cards with effects of cards like Toon Gemini Elf.

I still keep up with the game, the meta and have enjoyed playing with each format that's come out since the very start of the game, but I geniunely feel like the game has lost a lot of the magic and charm that the first series has. As such, I shall continue to be nostalgic for that time irrespective of how much enjoyment I do or do not get out of modern YuGiOh at any given time. You wanna point the finger at anyone, it should be those retards that claim "YuGiOh is dead!" from the top of every rooftop every time a new summoning mechanic is released.
As an old school player myself, I hate how so sucked into goat format some people seem to be (including you Yuginono). I personally like picking out certain sets (for example; LOB-LOD, Original series + cards from anime that were released later, etc.) And creating my own banlist with my friends and BOOM we have created a skillful nostalgic format that nobody has ever played. Of course we would ban Staples that are OP by today's standards but we also ban cards that would be considered "too viable" or "too popular" that wouldn't have otherwise been banned (such as, Blue eyes, summoned skull, upstart, mirror force, scapegoat, call of the haunted, etc.)
I can relate to the overuse of Yugi/Kaiba. I'd love to see more characters from other series getting more spotlight. Jaden, Chazz, Zane, Alexis, Aster, Yusei, Jack, Crow, Yuma, Shark, Kite, Vector, Yuya, Yuto, Yugo, Yuri, Reiji, Kurosaki and of course Neo New Sawatari. Just anything new than Yugi/Kaiba again (I say as I plan to get the Kaiba tin this year. I also theorize the popularity of Heroes can be a number of reasons: 1.) Early archetype + Protagonist used them and won a lot so they must be good, right? 2.) Pre-Synchro so appeals to "classic" fans more 3.) Superheroes as a theme are always popular whether it's movies, comics, or cards

Pot of Greed can go to 1. People say it is broken, but omg all it does is draw 2 cards. Look at Pantheism, that was at 3 at one point which was far more busted than Pot of Greed. 2. Zoodiac is a bad engine to splash, the boards it makes are easy to break. It is best playing it as a "pure" build. 3. You can be a good player and still not top events or even go to events. Just cause a person tops an event doesn't mean they know what they are talking about. They may had just gotten lucky through the whole event, or cheated. (Especially with people topping multiple times consecutively) 4. Stop using broken for anything that is "powerful" if you use the term "broken" easily then you obviously don't know what broken is.
I think the reason pot of greed is still banned is because there is no reason not to play it. It's just a simple good effect, but the effect is so simple that no player would not play pot of greed if it was legal.
I agree with a lot of things here, except for the part that deals with "Solitaire decks". I'm not going to say that they require no skill, some comboes require a lot of knowledge of the perfect pieces. However, I'm the kind of player that likes seeing back and forth. I like reactions and counter-play. Sure, I can side deck and deal with it for game two, and I accept that. It's still kinda boring if you don't draw in to your hand trap, assuming you're running them at all.
People take way too much pride in being bad at the game. There's like 3 dudes at my locals who act like they're better than everyone else even though they only beat children because they "Don't chase the meta." When these dudes play basketball they must boast about how many shots they miss and how slow they run.

I do get why you dont liked heros and six samurai, it just doesn't give you that unexplainable feeling that makes you like it so much. I love blue-eyes, paleozoics, ancient gears, and six samurai alot. Some people hate those. I personally have always loved the Six Samurai ever since the originals. I also liked that they released a Six Samurai structure deck, it makes that deck far cheaper to make.
Bring back the E dragons. It's simple; errata them to remove the "or dragons" part of their summon. Those are the words that made them completely broken back then.
I had that deck problem with a friend saying it sucks for what it does (anti meta with insects) and I just don't care I like building incredible weird decks that I like even if it's anti meta or not

i agree with a lot of the stuff said in this! i can understand the appeal of older formats like GOAT format, its a different strategy from modern yugioh, but also its inherently an unchanging format, because all the new ones are post-GOAT format! i like modern yugioh better because stuff changes! you can adapt and make new things with new cards, and i think that kind of strategy is a lot more fun
my 5 unpopular yugioh opinions as someone who stopped playing in his teens: 5. the power creep is too strong in this game 4. banlists should be decided by the community, not by the creators of the game (I'm not saying a single person or a small handful of people, but the entire competitive community, similar to how tier lists are decided in smash or how certain mons are banned in competitive pokemon) 3. I know its unpreventable with the internet and whatnot, but I don't think metadecks should be a thing since they ruin the fun of the game. I remember back in the day I had so much fun just sitting on my couch for like 2 hours looking through my cards to come up with combos, deck synergies etc. with metadecks this aspect of it just falls flat. 2. its fun to play the odd friendlies match with some of the old anime "rules". 1. inherently, this is a childrens' card game, so I think its odd to say the least how the competitive scene is ruled by these late 20s lookin niggas. like fam, maybe its time to move on to a different hobby, its getting kinda creepy.
TheMike0088 I agree with you on 5 and mostly on 4. I have a few issues with that, but mostly I agree. On 3, like you said. It's unpreventable. No matter what format, there will always be a deck that is better than the rest. Sure there are some that are no fun to play or play against. Like this format, True Draco and Zoodiacs. But I'm sure there are some that are fun to play. I only got into competitive yugioh recently so I don't know any off the top of my head. But there are fun decks that are meta and/or meta relevant. Dark Magician for example. I have a lot of fun playing it. And considering all the rule changes, it gets a huge boost once True Dracos and Zoodiacs disappear from the competitive game. 2 I agree on completely. I even play with some anime rules every now and then. 1, there are some points I agree with you on. Yes this is aimed at children. But there are people that have fun playing yugioh that are in their 20's or 30's. Also this isn't quite a children's card game. Card prices are way to high. The only way a child could get some is if they want to bankrupt their parents. Yes there are some points I agree with you on. But as I said. It is fine playing yugioh competitively as long as you're having fun with it. You get to meet a lot of people you wouldn't have met any other way. Now I am not bashing your opinion. Stratos stil makes sense by old Sangan logic and other shenainigans, Shurit is literally the cheapest card of victory for Necloths, why is a skilless yolo CATASTOR for everything special so hard to understand even if you're a bad player, TIV is half and a half but maybe Mermail Atlanteans though.
While I'm open to Stratos coming back, I'm somewhat in favor of it staying banned partially because I don't want it to lead to Shadow Mist getting limited. E HEROs have 3 Shadow Mist, 3 A HERO Lives, 3 E - Emergency Call, and 1 RoTA. I don't think they even need Stratos. On top of that, I'm paranoid that if Stratos comes back in the TCG, they'll hit Shadow Mist in order for it to look more like the OCG list. I play the Fusion variant of Destiny HEROs. Because of combos my deck does that relies in Shadow Mist (Discarding with Fusion Recycling Plant/Dangerous, sending her to the GY with Vyon, etc.), *I'd rather have 3 Shadow Mist and 0 Stratos than 1 Mist and 1-2 Stratos.* Also I do kind of agree that HEROs are a bit overrated. D-HEROs are the only HEROs I like, and the Fusion build is the only build (besides old-school stall) I like of _them_
Phil Dees Goat Format is essentially a 2002 format where Scapegoat was one of the most powerful cards in the game. People would need the free tokens for the tribute summon of stuff like Summoned Skull, old yet really powerful beatdown monsters. Nobleman of Crossout was amazing, man eater bug and hane-hane were trouble, etc.
In regards to hand shuffling, Magic has a card in a joke set that addresses. Called "STOP THAT!" it does as follows: "Target player discards a card. Gotcha - Whenever an opponent audibly flicks the cards in his or her hand, you may say "Gotcha" If you do, return Stop That from your graveyard to your hand." ANd yes that rapid hand shuffling thing does count as a trigger for playing it.
surendra vasireddy As a Blackwing player who has played the Raidraptor matchup several times, 9 times out of 10 Blackwings win the matchup (especially with Links around now). While yes, Raidraptors can make big defensive boards with some occasional good offense usually reliant on Last Strix for Ultimate Falcon; Blackwings have some very good recovery plays with Hawk Joe and Gofu, massive offense from Raikiri, Chidori and Onimaru, good defensive plays with Armor Master, Kalut and Black Sonic and some pretty potent attack manipulation shenanigans with Nothung, Gale and Lost Wind (yes Lost Wind isn't a Blackwing card but practically every Blackwing deck plays it)
I think hero decks are so popular because it was the most relatable anime to a large portion of the players. Putting it in a school setting is a great way to leave a lasting impression on viewers! Also why d hero, cyber dragon, crystal beast, ect are still common decks that are favorites to a lot of players.
I usually ask about number of cards in hand and check my opponent's graveyard to assess how many resources they currently have, how much removal/disruption/combo potential they currently hold, so I can try to plan around that and commit to spending my own resources as I think is smartest.
The hand shuffle thing I think is more of a fidgety thing. But yea I largely agree with that point. A friend of mine used to run empty jar and he would have to ask cards in hand and stuff. And it was always funny to see people ask him thay back if they had the chance
I like the beginning format because I could actually do stuff. There are a few decks out there where the most participation you do is sit down and draw cards. Alexis Rhodes and Mai Valentine are bae and definitely would love to see more love for the Harpie deck
Couldn't agree more on Judgment Currently its going to 1 on our APS tournament ban list, but i've tested against the card, and protect the Jowgen isn't a win condition anymore. Yeah, you can go +9 or w/e, but any excess searches that put you above 7 cards will be discarded I also think cards like Gofu and Eater staying at 3 is a good thing
"cards in hand?" is always a good question, turn 3 if I ask you, and you say 6 with 6 cards on board without playing any card advantage then I am gonna call the judge over. Don't want opponents to be drawing extra cards.
Weighing in on the random hand shuffle/cards in hand opinion, I think some players are also Magic: the Gathering players, and most MtG players do that due to there being more cards in that game that allow a player to look at/discard from the other player's hand, and the shuffling is done in MtG to keep your opponent from knowing where a particular card is in the fan of cards a player is holding/know which cards were drawn after you played your Thoughtsieze/Duress/Inquisition of Kozilek/et cetera. The "cards in hand" question mainly comes from discard/control players, who have to give that sort of thing a lot more thought than your average combo or aggro player. Not that everyone is doing it because they are a convert, but that seems to be a possible reason (to me, anyway) for players to have gotten into that habit. Also, thanks for sharing your opinions. Not everyone may agree with them, but isn't that supposed to be what America is all about? EDIT: I agree that there are too many Yugi/Kaiba products, but I wouldn't kill the Legendary Decks entirely. They just need to use more characters. Honestly, the fact that Legendary Dragon Decks didn't have a Signer-themed deck was, to me, criminal IMHO. That said, some of the characters you named were underused in their respective series that it would be tough to use them as the faces of the franchise. I'd love to have an official playmat with Alexis or Leo and Luna, but they just weren't used as much as they could have been. Sad, but true.
You and I agree on a great many things. I'm actually excited for this years Legendary Decks, as two of them directly support decks that I already play. Those decks being Cyber Dragon and Odd-Eyes.

As a returning yu gi oh player and a current magic player its quite refreshing to see that both games have very similar issues plaguing the player base .
I'm not that well versed in yu gi oh decks but solitare decks in magic are annoying as hell as you can sit there watching them play magic by themselves for 20 minutes and still not kill you.

I love heroes because everyone knows them, I love gx and theres soo many fun ways to build them. The fusion mechanic is frightfurs and all that are fun, but heroes are fusions with multiple cool mechanics and combos that are super easy to build.
I also want spellbook of judgement back. Also, you look really nerdy with the Sonic shirt and the glasses while talking about a children's trading card game, and it's magnificent.

I personally love HEROes and Six Samurai, but for me, growing up, my favorite season was GX of the anime and when I went back to finally finish watching the series, I decided to look up some of the cards for it and that led me to finding out about the Masked HEROes which I immediately fell in love with because I am a massive fan of Kamen Rider which Masked HEROes are based on, so for me, that was actually what got me back into the game. The same can be said for Super Quantum. I also just find the decks fun with the idea of having this squad of what are basically superheroes as my fighting force. I even put a kaiju in my Super Quantum deck just so I could finish a duel with my megazord taking down a giant monster. In regards to Six Samurai, for me it comes from a show I watched growing up called Ronin Warriors. I loved this show as a kid and again, it's a lot due to the idea of having kind of card versions of these characters that I loved as a kid or even now as my deck.
Number 2 was exactly what I ran into when I went into tournaments. Some people were just that willing to jump down my throat over me not having exactly the cards that they would use and such. I totally agree with you and sympathize with you there.
I love Heroes for the fact that even though I was born during the original series I grew up more with and closer to GX and I just thought that Jaden was the best in my opinion plus I love superheroes so I always have Loved the Hero deck I have both a straight Elemental Hero Deck and Masked Hero which is the only real deck I play right but that's just cause I have the most fun with it

Born into GX era started playing the card game in ARC-V era yet GX is my favourite Yu-Gi-Oh series the crystal beast cards and Jesse are what stopped me from committing no longer live for just long enough to make friends and enjoy life again.
We need more other generation support, I understand the original is the original and it made yugioh what it is today, but Gx is my favorite and the true special (non booster) gx themed set was Legendary Collection 2, while theres like 3 Legendary collections based on the original and every year theres like a kaiba and yugi structure deck and all those.

Then I quit and started playing again since like last week or so. And your channel is just amazing. GOAT is fun. Nostalgic as the word makes clear, are OLDER players. Older players always think they are more skilled and try to hold on to the past.
Before December '16 ,I had last played Yu-Gi-Oh in '05. I am only now starting to grasp the game in its current state and I can understand why GOAT players are holding on to the format and trying to justify not making the effort to learn something new with "more skilful".
The flip side is that anyone that denies that KoMONEY has been power-creeping the hell out of the game to sell more cards is a complete ignoramus.
GOAT is more skilful is equivalent to "there are only 151 Pokemon".

I have to agree with your last opinion, they really have been focusing on the classic rivalry between Kaiba and Yugi. As much as I love the classic rivalry they had and all the new prints of cards, it getting old, like you said I like to see characters like Joey or jaden and Chazz or anyone else.
With all due respect, Spellbook of Judgment needs to stay banned. If you bring back judgement then you have to bring back Super Rejuvenation since it literally does the same thing
In regards to #1, I think the Legendary Decks are fine. The most recent one still had Yugi, but, also Zane and Yuya, and it’s probably the best way to get all the Legendary Dragon stuff.
With that said, they could do something different like put Marik and Bakura on their products. Those two always seem to be on people’s best YGO antagonists lists, so I’d wager that products featuring them would sell.

Yes! Glad that you brought up the Yugi and Kaiba thing. I think that also ties with the opinion people have of missing "old Yu Gi Oh." To me, it feels like Konami is trying really really hard to bank on nostalgia... But it really doesn't work all that well when they do it all the time.
Here's the thing, if you want to bank on the nostalgia of a specific point in your series, be it a game, an anime, whatever, you have to allow for time to pass before you start banking on it. You can't just flood the market with six or seven goddamn variants of Blue Eyes and Dark Magician that you're releasing every other week. There's the problem. I feel like Konami isn't confident enough to LET GO of classic YGO when moving forward. If you sit down and look at the releases of structure decks, tins, collections, and whatnot, Yugi has made a very regular act of presence.
I think that they should really just push the new stuff. It's ok to have a blast from the past but for crying out loud, Konami, don't just bombard us with it. Give people time to actually GET nostalgic about it and yearn for the "good ol' days" before you release a product that is meant to bank on such nostalgia. You know, there used to be a time, years ago before I went on hiatus, when I thought "man, sure would be nice if Blue Eyes or DM got more support!" and boyyyy did they. It's almost bloated at this point. I know I'm personally passing on those latest Mega Tins cause I already have like five or six different Yugi/Kaiba decks.

I'm not sure if this is unpopular/controversial, but I see people talking about banning gofu and level eater cause they are really good for links. I disagree with this. Not many people even play these cards in decks, and therefore I do not think they should be banned. Gofu is basically a link 3 monster. However, do make a link 3 you need to run 2 link spiders. This is unnecessary, wasteful, and so far hasn't proved to be broken.
I think for the most part people want it hit as a preemptive hit so we don't have another terrortop situation and because the OCG also had both those cards at least limited (level eater might be banned but I can't remember atm)

and i can testify and confirm with my still fresh memory that said format is indeed O V E RR A T E D as all hell i'm sorry, and here's why...... imagine having basically 90 percent cocky cutter Chaos CED decks everywhere - less variety than usually 3 decks dominating -, imagine having TER summoned the cheapest way possible like 90 percent of the times, meaning all the matchs will be NoAttacks and Pass, imagine having almost no ways out or counters for it except just Compulse, TT, limited Raigeky, limited DarkHole, Magic Jammer, Cursed Seal and Heavens Wrath... Bottomless wouldn't work, Solemn Judgement even at 3 would just burn yor LP's for a sacky burn card for game, imagine integrating EXODIA consistent shenainigans to TER lock, imagine having mostly beaters the deal with all that.....sounds like fun right XD. That being said I'm personally more nostalgic for 5D'S ERA Formats, the synchros felt like an universal not really overwhelming version of GladBeasts shenainignas with the correct measure of powercreep, the days when Skill did mostly matter whatever you were using, the days when Vanity was at 3 cause it was supossely sucky and it was all you needed to play slower decks.... the days when ALL kinds of decks from the first 3 gen were mostly able to compite and make a fair run of anyone's money at all events, the days when the only really powerfull synchro based dack was Infernity and even then it had 2 big weaknesses - hand advantage and graveyard shenainigans -...... the days when CardGamesOnMotorcycles were actually awesome to watch ....

Upopular opinion : I like the fact that Konami is trying to slow the game down and prevent the stupidly unbreakable boards of the past. But a new summoning mechanic that literally fucks over ANY deck that cannot summon more than 2 monsters every turn is not the way i would go about doing it. Links have killed so many decks and it is sad.

I'd prefer Konami to keep cards on the ban list until power creep says they can come off, and give us replacements with an errata'd effect instead of errata-ing the effect of the card itself just to take it off the ban list. A part of me would also like Fish and Sea Serpent to be errata'd into Aqua Type, and maybe Wyrm errata'd into Dragon.
Me: They could just make several "broken" effects once per duel and they could reintegrate easily.

I honestly didn’t realize it portrayed myself, to other players, as pompous. I really just thought it was a fun fidget maneuver. And in the case that my opponent is running discard tech, I don’t want them to keep track of what I’ve added to my hand, via search.
I too, fan-out my GY, but I only do that to check.
If an opponent does it too much, take advantage of it; they’re clearly trying to set up something, but are missing pieces of their combo.

Yeah but I’ve heard tons of people ask for cards in hand and I respond with none or just one and then the player just ends their turn and doesn’t make any sort of play that would require knowledge of any of my potential responses. It’s one of those annoying like those people that have some sort of disease that causes them to constantly throw/shuffle/bend/fan out/ their cards all over the place.
I’ve been getting back into Yu-Gi-Oh! lately. I was in middle school when the original series and cards came out. Never watched GX until now. I started collecting cards again and trying to learn all the new rules and revamp my deck to make it somewhat better.
Because not everything is hate, I love six samurais and heroes but I'm not gonna hate you for your opinion Paul, and I'd gladly give you MY reasons to like both of those archetypes.

I don't know if you've actually ever played the old or classic game, going off some of the opinions you've expressed it might have been before your time, but the game is in no way shape form or fashion more "interactive" now. Hand traps existed in cards like Kuriboh, which was a staple for competitive play, and gravekeeper's watcher and nothing about Kaijus are original; lava golem has been around for a while. The concept of "helmet decks" may have changed your opinion on what a good card is but i think people who are expressing the displeasure of Konami's ban list are feeling the negative effects of 'create new broken deck ban it 6 months later' money grab formula being implemented that in your video you say we should just accept since its "always" been like that. the thing is it hasn't, and while some of the fanfare you see for the goat format is nostalgia this era was the last before Konami realized they could milk their player base for money buy reprinting and destroying the value of what at the time were collector's items. I can rant for hours on this but almost all of your points bleed into each other but being a newer player you can't see the forest from the trees. there's a reason every year Konami is reprinting cards and featuring characters from that boring way less skillful era of yugioh that just doesn't stop making them money.
i don't wholeheartedly disagree with all your opinions but i think you might not be observing the issues with the right amount of empathy.

I think what would be cool, if they did say a bakora or a bandit Keith deck would be if they were generic support for fiends and machine monsters, we haven't seen some basic type support in so long, and generally is that form of support that gets used and helps tons of other decks.

I find it interesting you bring up hand shuffling, because I picked up doing it because people in the game I looked up to did it as well, now, after doing it for so long, I find it helps me think out plays and things just because it's now a habit that I have to hand shuffle.
I have an opinion that's apparently unpopular, and it makes my upset that it is; I don't really care if Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, Vanguard, Pokemon etc. is "better" than other card games. Just play the ones you want to, and don't attack those who like to play others. It's a matter of preference and I personally know how to and am happy to play all 4 of the aforementioned games.

I will tap into this comment and say I stand with that statement, anyone going out of their way to hate a different card game then they are interested in is a lame and I have stated this at my locals many times and never had a viable response in doing so because it's fucking foolish and most of them are cowards. You need to focus on more important things like your life if you're bashing other people for their preferences.

As for your opinions, I agree with all of them. _Especially_ regarding Yugi and Kaiba. They lumped in a Zane and Yuya deck into the Legendary Dragons decks, and guess who's on the cover? Dan Green himself.
About that rapid hand shuffling part and so on, here is my opinion.
I just recently transitioned from online to paper mtg and I just enjoy the tactile nature. Little things like having a personal system how I organize my board, tapping cards, and the sound cards make when you place them are what make the game for me. So if I saw someone ask cards in hand or fan graveyards for no reason, I'd just attribute it to them immersing themselves in the card game.
Not to justify the hate, but I think people hate burn and stall and alternate win condition decks because sometimes it's just not possible to beat them and it gives you a loss knowing that that person who beat you isn't going to top.
Basically it feels like they stole a round from you by playing something that's not going to top. If you draw no outs to royal magical library game 1 and 3 and exodia beats you, you kinda feel cheated.
But that's just my two cents. Great video
GreyShadow Ori I totally respect this point of view. That's a great point, and I've actually felt that way in regionals before. To be fair, I definitely don't love facing the decks and I'm glad Konami seems to have tamed most of them from the past.
Team APS I'm happy they have kept those decks in check enough so they won't ever top (Sorry Worlds) but look ahead and I see a deck like Trickstar being meta and it's burn focused..... but at that point once it's meta there's no excuse to not have a side deck for it.

However, they are not unstoppable. That being said, if you get caught slippin, I don't feel bad for you. I mean, you can't possibly side for every possible deck you may encounter. Either you did not perceive these decks as a threat, which is on you for underestimating your opponent; or you didn't know that these alt decks were out here, which is also on you because it's the 21st century and google is your friend. I definitely agree with the yugi kaiba opinion. It was a refresher to hear that the next legendary decks didn't just have yugi and kaiba, but Yuya and Zane. Sure we still have a yugi deck in it, but it's only slightly annoying now seeing as it's support for the Atlantean Dragons. Would have been cooler if it Yusei or Jack. Maybe the next legendary decks could be based on Villain characters?

I think Primal Origins format was the best. You had so many viable decks, such as Infernity, Fire Fist, Mermail, Mythic Rulers, HAT, Etc. It was a good mix as well, some were really slow but had tonnes of traps and others were fast.
I don't like the more kiddish archetypes designs and I kinda dislike that the card stylings have changed drastically since 5ds which I think is the last truly good yugioh anime since it still had plenty of grit and a character that didn't sound like some 13 year old who hasn't hit puberty
I personally do the rapid hand shuffling because for some reason it helps me focus. I get overloaded by senses easily, too much sound, too many people around me, etc. So shuffling my hand calms me down because it gives my hands something to do and the flicking sound is soothing to me for some reason,

At my locals we were discussing what could really come off the banlist yesterday: We came to the conclusion to that for the most part apart from the obvious (Pot of greed etc) and some exceptions I'm not bothered to list, most cards from the last few years could either come off completely or could come back to one due to either powercreep or links puts them in check. The list really is a bit of a mess and needs to be cleaned up.

On the other hand I do agree that other characters should get some attention, Joey/Jonouchi needs some better Red-Eyes support(not hating the current one we have, but it could be better), We could see some cool stuff with the GX cast too. At least from what I know both Yuya and Zane are getting their decks in the next legendary deck collection so thats nice at least

I love Elemental Heroes as well and I have a lot of fun creating decks out of the bricky old heroes and ones from the manga. One thing I never liked though was how HERO is one giant archetype consisting of 5 different types of Heroes. As someone who loves E-Heroes, but finds D-Heroes a boring slog, it feels odd having them now be part of a single archetype.
what does a month matter when you were screwed for six-seven months if you didn't have this deck? Or did you forget about the tournaments when zoo was winning 80-90% of the top 32? OCG had this stuff ban as they realized how bad it was
I have two reasons for shuffling my hand constantly. 1 is when I'm bored, like when my opponent is taking a really long turn. 2, is because I quite often go against decks that have effects that force me to discard, so I shuffle my hand a lot in hopes that my opponent won't discard one of my good cards with effects of cards like Toon Gemini Elf.

I still keep up with the game, the meta and have enjoyed playing with each format that's come out since the very start of the game, but I geniunely feel like the game has lost a lot of the magic and charm that the first series has. As such, I shall continue to be nostalgic for that time irrespective of how much enjoyment I do or do not get out of modern YuGiOh at any given time. You wanna point the finger at anyone, it should be those retards that claim "YuGiOh is dead!" from the top of every rooftop every time a new summoning mechanic is released.
The hand shuffling thing I adopted it because it keeps me busy and moving my hands helps me think.
As an old school player myself, I hate how so sucked into goat format some people seem to be (including you Yuginono). I personally like picking out certain sets (for example; LOB-LOD, Original series + cards from anime that were released later, etc.) And creating my own banlist with my friends and BOOM we have created a skillful nostalgic format that nobody has ever played. Of course we would ban Staples that are OP by today's standards but we also ban cards that would be considered "too viable" or "too popular" that wouldn't have otherwise been banned (such as, Blue eyes, summoned skull, upstart, mirror force, scapegoat, call of the haunted, etc.)
I can relate to the overuse of Yugi/Kaiba. I'd love to see more characters from other series getting more spotlight. Jaden, Chazz, Zane, Alexis, Aster, Yusei, Jack, Crow, Yuma, Shark, Kite, Vector, Yuya, Yuto, Yugo, Yuri, Reiji, Kurosaki and of course Neo New Sawatari. Just anything new than Yugi/Kaiba again (I say as I plan to get the Kaiba tin this year.
I also theorize the popularity of Heroes can be a number of reasons:
1.) Early archetype + Protagonist used them and won a lot so they must be good, right?
2.) Pre-Synchro so appeals to "classic" fans more
3.) Superheroes as a theme are always popular whether it's movies, comics, or cards

1. Pot of Greed can go to 1. People say it is broken, but omg all it does is draw 2 cards. Look at Pantheism, that was at 3 at one point which was far more busted than Pot of Greed.
2. Zoodiac is a bad engine to splash, the boards it makes are easy to break. It is best playing it as a "pure" build.
3. You can be a good player and still not top events or even go to events. Just cause a person tops an event doesn't mean they know what they are talking about. They may had just gotten lucky through the whole event, or cheated. (Especially with people topping multiple times consecutively)
4. Stop using broken for anything that is "powerful" if you use the term "broken" easily then you obviously don't know what broken is.
I personally feel Pantheism or Stormforth could go back to 2...
Stormforth can go to 3 for all I care, I just don't like the fact that Pantheism was deemed "ok" and Pot of Greed who does much less than that isn't.
You can literally say the same thing with Solemn Strike/Warning/Vanity whoever has it first has an advantage or about any other staple.
I think the reason pot of greed is still banned is because there is no reason not to play it. It's just a simple good effect, but the effect is so simple that no player would not play pot of greed if it was legal.
It would render Pot of Desires nearly meaningless.
I agree with a lot of things here, except for the part that deals with "Solitaire decks". I'm not going to say that they require no skill, some comboes require a lot of knowledge of the perfect pieces. However, I'm the kind of player that likes seeing back and forth. I like reactions and counter-play. Sure, I can side deck and deal with it for game two, and I accept that. It's still kinda boring if you don't draw in to your hand trap, assuming you're running them at all.

I think all of what has been said in this video is honestly right. I do get why you dont liked heros and six samurai, it just doesn't give you that unexplainable feeling that makes you like it so much. I love blue-eyes, paleozoics, ancient gears, and six samurai alot. Some people hate those. It's just that I love those decks because I do, there really isn't an explanation since it's just a human intricacy that can't be explained. Always love you guys keep up the good work!😉

I personally have always loved the Six Samurai ever since the originals. I also liked that they released a Six Samurai structure deck, it makes that deck far cheaper to make.

CaiusLigarius I enjoy playing a lot faster in the newer formats but it doesn't stop me from going back and trying to have an old fashioned duel just to appreciate how far the game has come.
i agree with a lot of the stuff said in this! i can understand the appeal of older formats like GOAT format, its a different strategy from modern yugioh, but also its inherently an unchanging format, because all the new ones are post-GOAT format! i like modern yugioh better because stuff changes! you can adapt and make new things with new cards, and i think that kind of strategy is a lot more fun
my 5 unpopular yugioh opinions as someone who stopped playing in his teens:
5. the power creep is too strong in this game
4. banlists should be decided by the community, not by the creators of the game (I'm not saying a single person or a small handful of people, but the entire competitive community, similar to how tier lists are decided in smash or how certain mons are banned in competitive pokemon)
3. I know its unpreventable with the internet and whatnot, but I don't think metadecks should be a thing since they ruin the fun of the game. I remember back in the day I had so much fun just sitting on my couch for like 2 hours looking through my cards to come up with combos, deck synergies etc. with metadecks this aspect of it just falls flat.
2. its fun to play the odd friendlies match with some of the old anime "rules".
1. inherently, this is a childrens' card game, so I think its odd to say the least how the competitive scene is ruled by these late 20s lookin niggas. like fam, maybe its time to move on to a different hobby, its getting kinda creepy.

No matter what format, there will always be a deck that is better than the rest. Sure there are some that are no fun to play or play against. Like this format, True Draco and Zoodiacs. But I'm sure there are some that are fun to play. I only got into competitive yugioh recently so I don't know any off the top of my head. But there are fun decks that are meta and/or meta relevant. Dark Magician for example. I have a lot of fun playing it. And considering all the rule changes, it gets a huge boost once True Dracos and Zoodiacs disappear from the competitive game. 2 I agree on completely. I even play with some anime rules every now and then. 1, there are some points I agree with you on. Yes this is aimed at children. But there are people that have fun playing yugioh that are in their 20's or 30's. Also this isn't quite a children's card game. Card prices are way to high. The only way a child could get some is if they want to bankrupt their parents. Yes there are some points I agree with you on. But as I said. It is fine playing yugioh competitively as long as you're having fun with it. You get to meet a lot of people you wouldn't have met any other way.

Stratos stil makes sense by old Sangan logic and other shenainigans, Shurit is literally the cheapest card of victory for Necloths, why is a skilless yolo CATASTOR for everything special so hard to understand even if you're a bad player, TIV is half and a half but maybe Mermail Atlanteans though.
While I'm open to Stratos coming back, I'm somewhat in favor of it staying banned partially because I don't want it to lead to Shadow Mist getting limited.
E HEROs have 3 Shadow Mist, 3 A HERO Lives, 3 E - Emergency Call, and 1 RoTA. I don't think they even need Stratos.
On top of that, I'm paranoid that if Stratos comes back in the TCG, they'll hit Shadow Mist in order for it to look more like the OCG list.
I play the Fusion variant of Destiny HEROs. Because of combos my deck does that relies in Shadow Mist (Discarding with Fusion Recycling Plant/Dangerous, sending her to the GY with Vyon, etc.), *I'd rather have 3 Shadow Mist and 0 Stratos than 1 Mist and 1-2 Stratos.*
Also I do kind of agree that HEROs are a bit overrated. D-HEROs are the only HEROs I like, and the Fusion build is the only build (besides old-school stall) I like of _them_

Phil Dees Goat Format is essentially a 2002 format where Scapegoat was one of the most powerful cards in the game. People would need the free tokens for the tribute summon of stuff like Summoned Skull, old yet really powerful beatdown monsters. Nobleman of Crossout was amazing, man eater bug and hane-hane were trouble, etc.
In regards to hand shuffling, Magic has a card in a joke set that addresses. Called "STOP THAT!" it does as follows:
"Target player discards a card.
Gotcha - Whenever an opponent audibly flicks the cards in his or her hand, you may say "Gotcha" If you do, return Stop That from your graveyard to your hand." ANd yes that rapid hand shuffling thing does count as a trigger for playing it.
Here's another unpopular opinion: I don't like Blackwings, I never understood why people love them so much.

surendra vasireddy As a Blackwing player who has played the Raidraptor matchup several times, 9 times out of 10 Blackwings win the matchup (especially with Links around now). While yes, Raidraptors can make big defensive boards with some occasional good offense usually reliant on Last Strix for Ultimate Falcon; Blackwings have some very good recovery plays with Hawk Joe and Gofu, massive offense from Raikiri, Chidori and Onimaru, good defensive plays with Armor Master, Kalut and Black Sonic and some pretty potent attack manipulation shenanigans with Nothung, Gale and Lost Wind (yes Lost Wind isn't a Blackwing card but practically every Blackwing deck plays it)
Because they love the aesthetic, play-style, synchros, nostalgia, they get a lot of support.
I do the hand shuffle because I play Sky Striker, so I'm searching constantly and it helps keep it random for my opponent
I think hero decks are so popular because it was the most relatable anime to a large portion of the players. Putting it in a school setting is a great way to leave a lasting impression on viewers! Also why d hero, cyber dragon, crystal beast, ect are still common decks that are favorites to a lot of players.
I usually ask about number of cards in hand and check my opponent's graveyard to assess how many resources they currently have, how much removal/disruption/combo potential they currently hold, so I can try to plan around that and commit to spending my own resources as I think is smartest.
The hand shuffle thing I think is more of a fidgety thing. But yea I largely agree with that point. A friend of mine used to run empty jar and he would have to ask cards in hand and stuff. And it was always funny to see people ask him thay back if they had the chance
I like the beginning format because I could actually do stuff. There are a few decks out there where the most participation you do is sit down and draw cards. Alexis Rhodes and Mai Valentine are bae and definitely would love to see more love for the Harpie deck

Currently its going to 1 on our APS tournament ban list, but i've tested against the card, and protect the Jowgen isn't a win condition anymore.
Yeah, you can go +9 or w/e, but any excess searches that put you above 7 cards will be discarded
I also think cards like Gofu and Eater staying at 3 is a good thing
"cards in hand?" is always a good question, turn 3 if I ask you, and you say 6 with 6 cards on board without playing any card advantage then I am gonna call the judge over. Don't want opponents to be drawing extra cards.
Weighing in on the random hand shuffle/cards in hand opinion, I think some players are also Magic: the Gathering players, and most MtG players do that due to there being more cards in that game that allow a player to look at/discard from the other player's hand, and the shuffling is done in MtG to keep your opponent from knowing where a particular card is in the fan of cards a player is holding/know which cards were drawn after you played your Thoughtsieze/Duress/Inquisition of Kozilek/et cetera. The "cards in hand" question mainly comes from discard/control players, who have to give that sort of thing a lot more thought than your average combo or aggro player. Not that everyone is doing it because they are a convert, but that seems to be a possible reason (to me, anyway) for players to have gotten into that habit. Also, thanks for sharing your opinions. Not everyone may agree with them, but isn't that supposed to be what America is all about?
EDIT: I agree that there are too many Yugi/Kaiba products, but I wouldn't kill the Legendary Decks entirely. They just need to use more characters. Honestly, the fact that Legendary Dragon Decks didn't have a Signer-themed deck was, to me, criminal IMHO. That said, some of the characters you named were underused in their respective series that it would be tough to use them as the faces of the franchise. I'd love to have an official playmat with Alexis or Leo and Luna, but they just weren't used as much as they could have been. Sad, but true.

You and I agree on a great many things. I'm actually excited for this years Legendary Decks, as two of them directly support decks that I already play. Those decks being Cyber Dragon and Odd-Eyes.
