- Indonesia's Islamic boarding schools or pesantren are an important part of the education system even as they battle the ever-present threat of radicalism. This as the country’s Religious Affairs Ministry says institutions vulnerable to radical ideologies are on the rise. There’s nothing wrong with pursuing religious education. Pesantren existed even before formal schooling existed in Indonesia. Anyone who hates on it don’t give enough credit on their roles and meaningful influence. Several rouge schools does not mean that the model does not work. If thats really the case, our traditional schooling system should also come into question a long time ago.

The government should spend money to the national interest, not to a particular religious belief.
Many of alumni from this school become high profile politician even Indonesia's current vice president is a Product of 'pesantren' and this off course Will influence their policy including budgeting
It IS for the national intest; it's a nation with 87% Muslim population. This is Pancasila-based Indonesia, not secular France.
Religious belief is a part of citizen's rights, the state should serve its citizens, so it is a national interest

Initially, I thought that islamic boarding school only studied religion. apparently they are also equipped with general subjects, patriotism for the country, extracurricular activities, foreign languages, and even business knowledge to create new jobs. complete package.. nice.

One would have to be blind to not immediately see something suspicious about this. Was that shot taken before or after vetting that school? It seems the school inspectors wouldn’t know if a truck hit them in the face.

@@deddy9675 IAKN (Institut Agama Kristen Negeri), UHN (Universitas Hindu Negeri), they are state universities and of course funded by the government.
But private religious education institutions can also get funding from the Ministry of religion affairs..

@@muhammadsecret8783 Well, I read your comment then I looked at this video from CNA titled "India under fire as Muslim nations lash out over Prophet Mohammed remarks" and indeed the reporter called Indonesia the largest Muslim country, I can understand why you considered the term appropriate for Indonesia.
But I would still disagree with that term (Muslim country) being use for Indonesia because my definition of Muslim country included the implementation of sharia law country wide (by government) which only being implement in part of Indonesia (Aceh). Which made me concluded that our disagreement with the use of Muslim country term is because we have different definition of what is a Muslim country.
If I may ask, what is your definition of Muslim country? what would you consider to make a country a Muslim country?

School pesantren Is a good place to learn religious knowledge, such as studying, reading the Qur'an and memorizing the Qur'an.

Wa'alaikumussalam brother, there's a plenty of option in Indonesia. There are Public school, Private school, Islamic boarding school, and International school.
I believe Public school are only for Indonesian citizen because it's Government funded by people's tax and the smartest one are competing to get in here. But if your kids are able to speak in Bahasa Indonesia, they could go to private school or Islamic boarding school. But if they don't speak Bahasa Indonesia, then it will suit him/her more in International school. If they only speaking in Urdu, try to find an International school for Pakistani/Indian in Indonesia.
