I was adopted 59 years ago and I've been looking for my first mother ever since. I always thought it was cruel that somebody couldn't know where they came from.
Hi Marry- Fellow adoptee here. Have you registered with Ancestry and 23 & Me? I went from 1 adoptive sis to 11 bio sibs in a short time. My reunion story is nearly a fairytale but be careful what you wish for as most are not. That said it should be YOU who gets to decide. Thank god for adoption-related therapy. I hope you connect with someone soon. Our history should not be a mystery!
@@ricksaunders oh yes I hired a PI... it was worthless. 23andMe has turned up my father's side not willing to reach back to me. Long story short, I don't think she wants to be found. Know her name but thus far, nothing.
@@marryellenmonahan5585 My pleasure. Feel free to give me a holler if you need help or to talk to someone who gets it. You and I are about the same age and it's taken me a long time to come out of the adoption fog so if I can help another adoptee figure things out I am happy.
Whether they are willing ro meet or not, in this day and age, it's impossible not to be found and no mistake. And whether your mother is still alive or not, it at least would make it more possible to discover health histories and circumstances.
What a beautiful segment! The only adopted children / adults I've ever known had the best of both worlds. Usually open adoptions, they had some level of communication with their birth parent and then truly loving and accepting adoptive parents. Once I was aware of the adoption I would never refer to them as... _"your adoptive parents"_ .. simply *_your parents_* .
“Sometimes we create barriers where barriers don’t need to be. When we pull those barriers down, we find love on the other side.” Dang. That speaks to the current climate we all find ourselves.
What a beautiful story in so many ways. Love made all the difference in so many ways by all who loved this baby! You are role models for the world, if the world wants to "change". Thank you all for this story!
This is an incredible story and these people, this couple, they are unbelievably good, warm, loving, generous people. There is not enough of this in the world
An unusual and encouraging story! Open, gracious and generous, the potential for a positive outcome for all concerned seems to have been realized. Not many are so highly evolved. Steve Hartman offers an intriguing assignment. How would I have handled this challenge and opportunity?
What wonderful parents!! All 3. It takes a village to raise a child. The fact that all 3 parents waited for the meeting of the biological mom until the son was 7 speaks volumes. They waited until Steven was ready.
Good Lord, what a great story of success. I am a married mother of 4 children, and I don’t know these people, but would like them in my children’s lives. ❤
Wonderful adopted parent 🙏, Shauna's heart is empty, never thought what she wants, anyway Stephen is sooo sweet with beautiful son; lucky both sides get along, very blessed 🙏🤗
What a great story! This is another prove that all lives matter. If she had chosen to abort, everyone would have miss out on happiness! Yes to life! Yes, sometimes we do put barriers were they shouldn’t be! Thanks CBS!
This is beautiful. Thank God Steve wasn't aborted and the adoptive parents made this possible.. The baby was in good hands while mum was getting her life together
Oh, another one of these “Hollywood” adoption stories. Let me tell you something: two of my children were adopted at birth. We never stood in the way of either of them reconnecting with their birth mother. Our daughter tried. It didn’t go well. She was utterly rebuffed, and I think that’s the majority of experiences. Our son never bothered; he said his parents were the ones who loved and raised him. I’m glad this woman came full circle. It doesn’t happen often.
I agree with you, this is one of the success stories they would like us to feel warm and fuzzy about. I have loved Steve Hartman for years but I have come to accept that he tells stories about the exceptional few rather than the vast majority.
It's unfortunate your situation wasn't better. What I don't understand is your need to rain down hate and discontent on another person's situation that turned out differently. Maybe just try being happy for someone else.

The biggest failure is trying to raise, when you know you are not fit. She said she was very young. Good on her for realizing that her child needed adults to take care of him. You might want to do some growing up yourself, here. The birth mother clearly did not want to abandon her kid, or else she would not have stayed part of his life. Grow a heart.
@@gardenjoy5223 maybe u can tell all the young women who are throwing their new born babies in dumpsters and trash cans to grow a heart!! She was "adult" enough to have sex and get pregnant tho!! She lucked out and the adopted parents didn't tell her to kick rocks until she was finally ready...whatever ready means!!
What wonderful adoptive parents to do this
When the dad said you could never have enough love, I felt that In my heart
“When we pull down the barriers, we find love on the other side.” Words of wisdom, indeed.
You can never have too many people loving you! Profound wisdom.
It's so good to see kindness and empathy like this.
What amazing parents they all are. How lucky Steven has been.
"You can't have to many people loving you." So true, what a BEAUTIFUL story!

It seems like this story sort of epitomizes the argument make by folks who argue for the right to life in the debate regarding abortion?
