  • In Hawaiian, poke means “to slice,” which is the “hardest” part of putting together a delicious poke bowl. Everything about this keto-friendly poke recipe is easy: from the ingredients to the prep to the clean-up.
    This makes it the perfect dish when you want something quick, delicious, healthy, and keto-friendly. Once you get the hang of making it yourself, you will no longer have to wonder how many carbs and calories are hiding in your takeout poke bowl.
    Poke is one of the main dishes of Native Hawaiian cuisine, which typically consists of cubed raw fish quickly marinated in soy sauce and other seasonings. It was traditionally made with skipjack tuna or octopus, but salmon and ahi tuna have become the more common feature fish.
    As the dish evolved, other ingredients accompanied the fish and seasonings such as vegetables, seaweed, fish roe, herbs, nuts, and rice.

    PLEASE NOTE: This dish does use raw salmon. You will need to purchase sashimi-grade fish to make this dish. You cannot just use any salmon from a regular grocery store as it may not be safe. Sashimi-grade fish is handled with the intent to be eaten raw.

    Why is everyone confused about the salmon being raw? A poke bowl’s main ingredient is typically raw fish

    Raw salmon is called sashimi (part of a salmon roll in sushi)- when you buy it. Its not regular raw salmon. Its sushi grade- so even higher. Kinda like on that tuna catching tv show.. the high grade they catch is for overseas. Raw good tuna is yummy and very sweet.

      Yes there are different types of fish used in sashimi. Tuna and salmon are my faves

    I gotta have lime juice & salt on my raw fish first. Then add the soy & sesame oil. I also use sesame seeds on top.

    Where does one find high quality salmon that can be eaten raw? Walmart...Whole Foods?

    • @RuledMe
      @RuledMe  3 года назад +1

      Definitely not Walmart, but Whole Foods may have a selection. I purchase mine from a fishmonger that specifically sells sashimi grade fish. You want to make sure that it's sashimi grade fish - regular salmon will not work and can cause sickness if the fish wasn't handled properly before sale.

    • @RuledMe
      @RuledMe  3 года назад

      Of course - just make sure that it fits within your macros. You can always change/add to a recipe as long as it fits within your macros.

      Yes, I pinned a comment I made reminding people of that. Regular grocery store salmon is likely not handled properly to safely eat raw.

      "Poke (pronounced poh-KAY) is diced raw fish served either as an appetizer or a main course and is one of the main dishes of Native Hawaiian cuisine. " So yes, the salmon is raw. It can be made with yellowfin tuna (not tuna fish in a can!) and other fatty fish.

    • @RuledMe
      @RuledMe  3 года назад +3

      It would have to be sashimi grade salmon for you to be able to eat it raw. You can't just eat any salmon from the regular grocery store raw.
