I've been eating keto for 2 months and my weight loss is slow but steady. More importantly, I saw my endocrinologist yesterday and she said I am no longer diabetic. I have been off any meds for over 2 months and my average blood sugar has been 79. She told me I could stop testing and just continue what I am doing. This is a long time coming as I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2000.
That is seriously amazing! I know the diet gets a lot of opinions, but I know of so many people that it has helped, your story is one of those. Congratulations on getting off the meds, I know that must feel like such a relief ❤
Congratulations 🎉! So happy for you !! I got diagnosed with T2D 2 years ago & I got off insulin a few months back , I haven’t done any crazy diets but I’m hoping to start incorporating some of this into my lifestyle …. & see how it helps with my sugars … my mom also got diagnosed with T2D 1-2 months after I did and I hope to help her make some changes as well with her , might also incorporate this lifestyle with her ! 😊♥️✨
you will always be diabetic. what your idiot endo meant is you are in remission...which means through diet and exercise you maintain healthy levels. if you eat high carb again and stop this lifestyle, you will shoot right back up there and need to take meds again. please i hope you understand that there is NO cure to diabetes and once you are diagnosed it is with you for life.
I started at 400lbs. Down to 180lbs now. I feel amazing! All I did was, watched what I ate and walked alot. I wanted to change my habits to healthy habits. My next 50 yrs I want live life to the fullest 💯 🙏
I stopped craving carbs on keto. I'd rather eat steak and shrimp. I honestly think keto saved my life. I have hashimotos and gained weight rapidly. With keto, I lost 60lbs in 6months.
I’ve been on keto for 7 years, this year I transitioned to low carb, high protein, because I noticed a muscle loss and my skin became more soggy. Now I think that keto is great for fixing health issues and after that switching to low carb, healthy, clean lifestyle
Yeah that’s what I want to do , bread and pasta is way too delicious and I love honey, I’m mainly focused on avoiding sugar and anything that turns into sugar. But I’m not giving up fruit . Plus I consume 4-7 scoops of collagen daily . You gotta up your collagen ; maybe buy some pigs feet or chicken feet and let it sit for 12 hours and drain , it’s going to have tons of collagen
This happened to me too, after 8 yrs on keto I recently started Carnivore, this made me realise how lacking I was in protein, hence the sarcopenia … sagging skin that belongs to a very old person . But I think I might also just start high protein low carb. I was doing OMAD, it was really hard to fit in enough protein to support skin health . Now I’m doing carnivore and having to eat four meals a day just so I can eat enough for the nutrients needed. It’s hard ! Seeing your comment has been the first time in all these years I heard some one else struggling with sand issue . Snap girl😁🌷
I just want to clarify -My content is not changing as all my recipes are low carb and keto friendly. As much as I've loved doing keto for the last 5 years, I’ve slowly transitioned back to low carb. If I start to gain weight, I will 💯 go back to strict keto as it has always worked for me👏. Most of my food is still “keto” I’ve just added small amounts of fruit, potatoes and rice here and there (which is considered “low carb” vs keto. I just wanted to share this with you because some of you might relate. If you have any questions, comments, feel free to add them here! Love you guys ❤
I've watched your content over the last year, and I have considered most of your recipes "low carb" (not strictly "keto")...making delicious meals with a conscious effort to avoid unnecessary carbs. As a person who lost 75 pounds in the last year walking this fine line, I'm extremely interested in what content you come up with for the next era of your channel. Best wishes!
I’ve been doing keto/ low carb diets to help control blood sugar. I do lose weight also. Now I’m battling with an elevated cholesterol. So my diet is super restricted. Any recipe suggestions? I’ve been watching you a long time. You have definitely have inspired me.
This lady Myra helped when I was diagnosed with type two diabetes, I learnt a lot from this channel for my KETO journey and I reversed my diabetes but incorporated a low carb diet. My blood sugar is under control, I not only reversed my diabetes but my retinopathy, neuropathy, massive inflammation and lost all skin tags. Thanks Myra and greetings from UK 🇬🇧
That is how I feel too. I cut out gluten simply because I didn't feel good when I ate it plus I tested positive for an allergy to wheat. Gluten-free makes me feel sluggish and tired so I was cutting out those products too. I do miss ice cream and candy bars but I guess that is the way it goes.
Carbs are an addiction for a lot of people. All the friends I know who added back small amounts of their favourite junk/carb foods after losing weight on keto eventually gained it all back. I'm the only one who lost the weight & kept it off, mainly because I stick to very low carb.
Absolutely! It should always be a lifestyle. I’m the same, low carb is a lifestyle for me now and I loved doing keto, it just didn’t make sense for my lifestyle long term. Now, I’m still very much low carb, eating an average of 40-50g total carbs daily. Some of my days are much lower, and once a month, they can be much higher. Always do what’s best for you! All of my recipes here will still be low carb and keto friendly 😊
I did clean keto for 10 months I was 150 and dropped to 110. I now maintain a clean low carb lifestyle. If I feel yucky I go right back to keto. I feel it helps clean out inflammation that I may have consumed too much of. That balance is PERFECT!
Turning to low carb made me realize I don’t need to over indulge in the food to the point where I want to throw up. Definitely developed alot of healthier habits. Completely changed my life I’m only 27 lbs away from my goal where as I remember thinking 60 lbs was so far away. I’m so happy I started this journey.
My husband and I did this too. We did healthy keto for a little over a year and a half. We also eliminated several bad ingredients from our diet. We both have lost 90 pounds. We moved away from keto and just eat healthy and limit carbs whenever possible. We continue to do intermittent fasting as well.
GURL. I hear ya. I was strict Keto for 3 yrs and I just transitioned to low carb because I just could not continue the restrictive food list. I now enjoy half a sweet potato, half a banana or a handful of grapes sometimes and it tastes so GOOD!
I’ve been keto on/off x5 years and I’ve noticed that cycling with low carb makes it more realistic for me. I don’t feel as bad eating the cake at a birthday or pizza once in a while with my kids. It’s best to focus on Whole Foods but you have to do what works for you.
💯! I let myself enjoy the occasional celebratory or holiday meal. Sometimes a full day of eating. But I get back on track and let myself have those breaks. Much more manageable for me. The problem is when people have like 3 or 4 cheat meals every week and expect to stay in ketosis lol.
I didn't lose a massive amount of weight. I lose 40 pounds, but I am off my insulin, blood pressure, and thyroid medications. That means a lot to me. I start keto after watching your videos. I am no longer on keto, and I have again a little weight back. Hope to be able to stay on track.
What? 40 pounds isn't a massive amount? That's great!!!!! Be careful with the holidays. I also took a break since there really isn't any weight to lose, as I weigh 100lbs. Happy Holidays and keep up the good work.
My husband's A1C went from 9.6 to 5.4 in 5 months on Keto. Even though I'm not struggling with diabetes, he and I are in this together! ❤ I totally understand where you are coming from, you do you!!! Everyone needs to take care of themselves physically and mentally!!! No one needs to explain that! Much ❤ love!
That's great news! My husband also has type 2 diabetes and went from 10.3 to 6.4 in six months. He's doing great! I'm not as strict as he is, but I don't have diabetes. Still, I've lost about 20 lbs doing low carb (not keto). lol
@@shawnwalden2669: If you want to achieve the lowest HbA1c possible you should eat a high-carbohydrate low-fat diet. *_«Surprisingly, given the enthusiasm for LCHF diets in the media and from some professional commentators, we found that lower carbohydrate intake was associated with significantly greater odds of T2DM and higher HbA1c concentration. I have been doing low carb for 3 years . Lost 43 lbs and maintaining the weight loss. You’re right, it is a life style now, not a diet. I actually feel guilty if I taste anything high carb. I did Atkins many years ago and weight watchers. Lost weight on both but gained it back once I stopped those diets. Living low carb is so much easier now with all the products out there to help. I’m 75 and even my husband says I look better than I ever did and he is not one to throw around compliments. I ride a stationary bike every day for 30 minutes and I feel like I’m in my thirties. My heath is excellent so don’t let anyone tell you that low carb is unhealthy. Even my doctors are impressed. I wish I had done this many years ago. Good luck with your journey. I enjoy your you tube channel. ❤
That's awesome!!! Do you do IF? I'm trying to gather ideas on how to transition to low carb from Keto and I'm nervous lol!! But Myra brings up a great topic which has me thinking about the transition.
That’s so sad that you feel guilty. God gave us FOOD and carbs to sustain us. Don’t feel guilty because you’ve been influenced by people to believe something is bad.
@thedeels7522 I think its more about our discipline to not eat high carbs and how hard we work to make that happen. Then when we have our cheat days or eat something we normally wouldn't, naturally there is guilt because we have broken that discipline. I have felt the same, it's nothing bad, just a pressure we put on ourselves just like any other human does. A big reason why keto is so successful. Discipline.
Yes, completely support your decision! Low carbs and whole foods are the best choice for my normal life. As less sugar free stuff, sauces, processed foods, just keeping it real with real stuff like red meat, chicken, fish, seafood, fruit and veggies, gluten free grains, and no bread, tortillas, junk food, bacon and all the treated meats. Just clean nutrition🎉
I agree with everything you have said. I was keto for 3 years, and now low carb adding in the vegies that weren’t allowed on keto and I’ve maintained my loss for 2 years. I lost 90 pounds, and after going low carb gained about 10 pounds in the first year, then have maintained that weight for the duration. It is much easier to be low carb.
I started Keto in 2018 and lost 120 lbs and have been in the same thinking mode as you. I am trying to transition away and do more low carb. I am eager to watch your journey and hopefully gain some knowledge to assist me so I don't gain it all back ( my greatest nightmare and fear). Thanks for sharing. By the way, I just turned 74 in August and I am in agreement with you that losing all that weight has helped me feel much healthier.
No simple carbs, no processed foods, high protein and healthy fats, and intermittent fasting has worked for me. Lost 50 pounds over the course of a year. Off all my medications...
@@epinedo Literally all you do is make an eating window. A popular one is 16:8, which often means you ONLY eat bettween 12 noon and 8pm. That literally amounts to nothing more than not eating breakfast. It's nothing more than "don't eat before x hour and don't eat past y hour." If you think about it, it's no different from "eat breakfast before work, eat lunch during your lunch break, eat supper when you get home, and then don't eat again until breakfast the next morning," while you may or may not choose to eat a snack here or there between your meals through the day before the shut-off period. You can set the time whenever you want. Aside from 16:8 another popular one is 18:6, or your eating window between noon and 6pm. Personally I let it slide around. I started out doing 16:8 with a noon - 8 schedule but quickly learned that I slept better if I stopped eating at least 3 hours before bed. So I set the rule that I had to be done with supper by 7, but often as not I find myself not eating past 6. But I also sometimes set the window between 10-6, or 11-7, depending on my mood. I'm hungrier some mornings than others. The thing to understand though is that Intermittent Fasting ONLY works the same way all other diet mechanisms work: by putting you in a calorie deficit. If you eat more calories than you burn, it won't matter one bit whether you eat on an Intermittent Fasting schedule or not.
I completely agree Mayra! I did keto/I.F. for about 4 yrs. It became too restrictive for me as well. Now I just focus on I.F. 18/6 or more. I would still consider myself low carb compared to the average person. Now I have the freedom to enjoy carbs while still being mindful of food quality. Zero guilt if I want a treat on occasion. Still in maintenance and with peace of mind😌
I absolutely love this! I also IF as well, and I know it can sound scary at first, but it will always get easier over time. I'm glad that you know yourself and that you can live life with maintenance and peace of mind.
@@mellybear IF = Intermittent Fasting . Most people will fast for 18:6, which 18 hours no food and a 6 hour eating window of usually TMAD (2 meals a day). Some will do an IF of 20:4 or 22:4 with an OMAD (one meal a day).
@@mellybear It's short for Interment Fasting it's a lifestyle where you restrict yourself from eating a certain amount of time for example your last meal would be at 8pm until your first meal at 12pm the next day so that's what's called a 16/8 IF window. you don't eat for 16 hours (including the time you're sleeping ) and have 8 hours to eat all your meals preferably three meals in those 8 hours but a lot of people choose two instead. You can choose to change the time that best works for your lifestyle as not everyone can do 8pm-12pm. The trick is you have to always break your fast with a healthy meal high in protein, healthy fat, and fiber. you can not break your fast with bread or junk food otherwise you won't see the results you would want. IF really does work I absolutely love it, It has helped me lose a lot of weight and it helps so much with bloating and gut wealth. you should do some research on it. I follow Autumn Bates here on youtube she's great at explaining exactly how it works. Mayra also has videos here talking about it. Hopes this explain a little bit. Good night
There's a season for everything. Your keto season is over. Thank you soooo much for all of the amazing recipes!! I'm low carb for medical reasons. It's a serious struggle. And adding work and four kids into the mix makes the struggle real!! Lol
I'm keto for medical reasons too. If I come off it I'll suffocate. At least, unless something else changes along the way. I have chronic BOOP which is basically the same organizing pneumonia that was killing covid patients. For me, staying in ketosis is more helpful than being on 40mg of prednisone a day.
Thanks for posting and best of luck Mayra. A clean low carb diet isn’t as restrictive as the Keto and allows for more variety. Achieving metabolic flexibility is what’s worked for me ✌
@LowCarbLove I got this from Vince Saint (vshred) yes I watched his video, very long. But what he said for my body type, has worked for me, when I've plateaud. (say from being keto for a while, and after not seeing results, switching to low carb for a few days) then I check the scale and I continue dropping weight. And even when the scale plateaus, I know I'm still losing fat, because I can see my muscles growing and my clothes feels much better than when, "I weighted the same " last year.
Hopefully Reggie shares his experience, but typically metabolic flexibility needs to trained* with one or both of extended ketosis and fasting - ideally 24+ hour and multi-day @@LowCarbLove. “Trained” may give the wrong impression, because you’re building new pathways that have been long dormant or are effectively gone - by destroying old cells/mitochondria (autophagy) and replacing them with new, better functioning cells… throughout your entire body. Unfortunately, autophagy typically only happens during ketosis/fasts (except cases of trauma/toxicity). That very long process of rebuilding your body, 1 cell at a time, is why most people have low ketones even when they have low blood sugar… even 16 or 20 hours into a fast, and after months/years of keto too. Short-term keto does help lose weight either way, but long-term achieving “full” metabolic flexibility (i.e. ketones immediately & highly available after glucose spikes, spikes clear out quickly without lag, ketone pathways efficient enough to fuel demanding sport and mental activity, etc) is a cumulative transformation. Early on, autophagy may not start until 20 hours into a fast (or continuous ketosis with < 5g glucose, for many perhaps < 1g) or could even take 2-3 days. As you gain flexibility though, autophagy will start sooner… and eventually you can make significant transformation progress even during IF single-day fasts. So achieving “full” metabolic flexibility depends on how often/long you put yourself into autophagy…. which might take only a few months for someone dedicated, or many years (or never) if someone never fasts long and also never goes for long in super strict ketosis. Personally, I’ve been varying levels of low carb/keto/paleo for 11 years (with some off periods)… My metabolic flexibility however didn’t improve much at all-until I started fairly aggressive IF 1 year ago (a mix of 20:4 TMAD and 23:1 OMAD), and then especially 8 months ago when I went carnivore (sometimes full, sometimes with fruit/ferments) and added in a 36+ hour multi-day fast every 1-2 months. Now I regularly play running sports (e.g. tennis, basketball) for 2+ hours a time, 4x a week or more, while fasted… or do heavy mental work on ketones. I’ve measured my blood ketones and glucose on meters. While it’s pretty good (high & responsive) I’d say I still have a ways to go still…. I don’t know of any good way to measure this, but in my mind I feel like I’m 30-50% of the way to fully metabolically flexible? I’m very happy at least with where I’m currently at-how available energy feels, how long I can last in sport, how quickly I seem to recover from occasional bad carbs, how sharp my mind feels, how rarely food comas/brain fog ever arise, etc-and looking forward to where I’ll be in another year! That’s my experience anyway! Hope that helps and/or is of interest at all 😄
Thank you for this video! I started keto in March of 2022. I lost 70lbs and over the past 3-4 months with the holidays just went off the rails and gained about 30 back. I'm going to do strict keto again until May and this video is super helpful for when i transition off of that. Thanks!!
I struggled to lose any weight while on the keto diet for 4 months. In researching the reasons why, I learned that my caloric intake was greater than the calories I was expending and decided that if I have to restrict calories to lose weight, I would prefer to be eating foods I enjoy including fruits, Greek yogurt, oatmeal, and other healthy alternatives to meat, cheese, and eggs. Also, it is great not being constipated.
I appreciate that this was NOT a click bait video. Thanks for your transparency in letting us know. I too think that a low carb VS a completely keto diet, is more suitable for me as well. Blessings Myra!
I have been on Keto for over a year. I went on it to improve my metabolic health and lost 35 lbs at age 65. I'm almost at my high school weight which is crazy. But as you stated, it's not really about weight loss for me at this point. I just want to stay healthy and stay out of the doctor's office. Thanks for all you do.❤
This video could not have come at a better time!!! I've been struggling so much 😩 I started keto probably around 5 years ago too...I lost 60 pounds the first time, gained it back for a while, got sick of being heavy again, did keto plush intermittent fasting, lost the 60 again, started menopause and my Dad got sick with cancer and passed away in January...I put about 40 pounds back on and now I can't lose anything 😭I also got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I'm so frustrated and tired of constantly living with this restricted mindset for so long and not see anything happening now. I want to be healthy and enjoy myself but also want to feel good about myself too. It's tough being in my 50s. I know my body is changing and what used to work just doesn't anymore with my metabolism. I'm at a loss. I won't give up and I think I'm going to maybe be low carb for a while by eating healthy foods but not worrying about trying to stay under 20 carbs a day. Sorry for the pity party...it's just been a tough year in so many aspects. ❤
Things will get better. ❤ Go easy on you, love and be patient with yourself. How about starting little by little? Baby steps are still steps, and even if you moved just a bit, it's still movement. You got this! 🥰 Hugs, from a stranger who understands what it feels like to touch rock bottom.
Your telling my story! Yo-yo weight gain and loss over and over again. It has been embarrassing for me, I would do Atkins then Keto only to stop n put it all back n then some, I told myself no more! Start moving and try again, stress had been my enemy but from here on out I will not let it have power over me. Please keep going and stay strong for YOU
so sorry to hear about your loss. if you ask me, weight loss in your 50s shouldn't have to be a thing, just go to the gym and get toned and build muscle and then you will look fantastic in anything. eat whatever you want in the meantime. I think even with a bit of extra weight, when you're confident and toned it looks amazing
I'm sorry for your loss. Things will get better...I was experiencing perimenopause symptoms a couple years ago. It took me 2 years to close the weight I gained. I'm 53 now and almost to my goal weight. Something to remember there is not a one size fits all. I started fasting and changing my choices in food and slowly lost weight. Lifting weights and walking is good for us 50 year old😅 Also, I started watching videos on perimenopause and menopause to help me understand the changes in my body and what I can do. You are not alone.
I totally relate! While it does help in many different ways, it started messing with me mentally after 3 years on and off. I was tired of being so restricted & having to over think every time I got hungry. I feel so much better now, just making healthy decisions & working out! I am still losing AND eating carbs 😂🎉❤
I’ve recently transitioned to an animal based diet. I’m 90/95% carnivore, 5/10% plant. I did it primarily for energy, and so far so good. It’s been about 3 months, and I’m very pleased with the results. While I didn’t start it to lose weight, I have lost about 15lbs. Not only has my energy improved, but the cracking in my knees has subsided, as well as the pain and strain when bending over and standing up, climbing stairs, etc. I’m feeling much stronger overall. That’s not to say that I don’t feel the stiffness and discomfort that comes with age. I’m in my late 50’s, and I’ve always been semi-athletic, so the arthritic pain and stiffness in my joints, wasn’t all that surprising to me. However, since going animal-based I’m feeling less of that stiffness and discomfort and I like it.
I transitioned from keto to low carb by very slowly raising my carb count, when I got to the point to where I saw some weight gain, I cut back a little on my carbs until I finally found my sweet spot. For about 6 months now I’ve just been happily living my life and I definitely do not feel like I’m on a diet. I think low carb is very doable. The thing most ppl need to do is just get all the junk food out of their lives, eat a good clean diet, and get some sort of exercise in every day, something you enjoy. Life is short, it should be enjoyed to the fullest! Good luck to everyone on your fitness journey ❤
We did keto for four years. I only had 15 pounds to lose but was doing it with my husband for support. We now do low carb and carb cycle and it’s amazing how well it works. My hubby is as low as he’s ever been. Check into carb cycling. You look amazing! I’m excited for more low carb/low calorie recipes.
I don't do keto or carnivore, but I did start counting calories and adjusting my eating habits to try and adhere to about ~2000 calories a day. I started this in early January when I was ~330 pounds. I am now 228 and feeling great. I am off numerous medications (blood pressure, cholesterol) and I am out of pre-diabetic range. To anyone trying to lose weight, find what works for you, dedicate yourself and remember to approach it as a lifestyle and not a diet. You can do it!
That's a quick drop. I've started counting calories 3 months ago and only lost 20 lbs. I was a similar weight as yours and about 2000 calories on average. What's your secret?
I've been keto for over 26 years and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I lost 80 pounds my first year (all I needed to lose) and since that time ALL of my heath issues disappeared and have not come back. And my energy level is out the roof without taking ANY stimulants of any kind. I feel as though I've been freed from a horrible life. It's amazing and I would never stop my keto diet. To make eating out less stressful, I ordered keto items... steak, hamburger patties, anything on the menu that was keto-friendly. So I have no problem at all staying on the keto diet.
Thank you for your work. I am now 77 years old and have diabetes. About 10 years ago I got onto the ketogenic diet, lost 60 pounds and was able to get off all my diabetes medicine. The way I did keto was to cook all day every week and freeze my meals. It worked great but that began to take more energy than I had. I have switched to low carb and am doing ok. Your life experience and resulting perspective is so valuable. Thank you and keep doing what you do.
@@jojo060612 I just eat rice twice a week I’m not a rice lover 🤣🤣 but I do like pasta I just eat half of cup for the craving and eat it with protein, most of the time I eat the protein first then the pasta or rice!
I love this! How much protein are you eating a day? I'm so proud that you're seeing this as a lifestyle, because a diet should never feel and be restrictive at all. It's all about making healthier choices everyday. Before you know it, you'll be making these decisions without even knowing!
@Encantada777 as odd as this sounds im so excited to also do that lol!! Thank you SO much for sharing that with me. I'm actually nervous haha but sooo looking forward to opening food doors again haha
Te felicito a ti y a tu esposo.
Also, I appreciate that you we’re straight up about this. And it’s your career, so u could’ve tried to hide to protect it. Keto Connect isn’t keto … and they never acknowledged it but do grocery hauls and show us bananas, pita bread … hummus … like we’re all there for keto and that’s pretend like they never were healthy on keto and ignore. Drives my whole family mad!! You did this head on like a boss bush lol looove it 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I agree. I love keto connect but the way they just changed, and never addressed it, is horrible. I love that she did a video and explained it. Not saying anyone owes us anything, but I have so much more respect for how she handled it.
I NEEDED this video! I did Keto and lost 65 lbs...then Covid hit. I've not gain it all back, but I'm ready to regroup and get serious again. I've been thinking about doing Keto again, then using a low carb style eating as my maintenance. You convinced me my way of thinking could be very doable. THANKS!
This is me! Covid threw me for a loop, and I am trying to catch my barons. I have added fruit, whole grains, and beans back into my diet. Initially, I did not gain, actually lost a little, until I fooled myself with bread! 😂 Best wishes on your health journey!
Sorry to hear you gain the weight back. You will do it again! You got this!!! 😊 I made this a lifestyle. Made it a off Keto meaning, not eating all that beef,(mainly chicken, fish and beef on occasion) but no sugar at all, no grains, etc... Until I got too thin. I felt I need berries for brain health too and now eat raspberries, blue and blackberries all organic. Try to eat very little sugar, low carbs. I missed eating grilled cheese, sometimes. So, I found a great bread(no sugar) and some great low carb bread too. Found this works for me and when I want a piece of a cake....... I get. Found a lower in sugar/carb. one(tried to make a cake- 😟😝😅) Lets say best to leave it to the professionals. 😀 Sometimes I have the munchies,(should eat) it can be hard and I'm tried of eating nuts, cheese, dark chocolate, etc.. and all you want is chips. Until recently, I found no sugar, very low carb Chicken Breast Chips.. They are Awesome! Expensive! But sooo tasty and delicious. 😋 Hope this helps.
I ate keto for almost 5 years. I loved the fact that I was never hungry between meals and that, even after menopause, I still had a very discernible waistline. But my cholesterol, which was always a problem, went even higher. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had several surgeries, family and friends visited and brought food. I couldn't refuse their thoughtfulness! I didn't gain any weight when bringing back carbs, but within a month I lost my waistline, and look like a average 62 year old woman with a thick middle. Like you, I am more focused on getting healthy. I still maintain my weight through exercise, but cannot get my keto body back. I am leaning toward low glycemic carbs, meat and cruciferous veggies, nuts, seeds and some dairy. No sugar, of course.
Same here Garden!! I did Keto to support my husband, he is 10 years older than me, I’m 53 and he 63….. suddenly, over night…. His A1C came back as a full blown diabetic, so we went Keto, literally over night…. For me, I only lost about 20lbs and couldn’t lose any more! I felt terrible, tired, bloated and awful…. My husband was doing great! He lost the weight (45lbs) and his A1 came down to almost normal levels!! So it worked for him…. Me…. Not so much… I went for my yearly checkup and my cholesterol levels were thru the roof!!! I mean DANGEROUSLY high… my A1C was also high!!! Keep in mind, my husband and I NEVER have any sugar what so ever…. Only blueberries a few times a week… so what gives?? So my dr sent me to my gastric Dr to see if something may be amiss (I have intestinal issues prior to keto) and he told me that he has seen this before, mostly in women but sometimes men too…. Keto tanks their blood work, raises fat in the body….and also messes with insulin levels, thus raising the A1C …that was for sure ME!! So he put me on “The Starch Solution” diet by Dr McDougall …. And whala…. Without even trying I lost 23lbs and my blood work AND A1C is back down to normal again… Keto isn’t a “one size fits all” diet. There are others out there like me, that practiced Keto perfectly, to a Tee…. And it did not work for them… I can’t tell you how many times I have had people say to me “you weren’t doing it right then, because it worked great for me”…. But every person, every Body in motion, is different. Many women of my age group (53) can not do keto because of cholesterol or insulin issues…. You just have to find what diet works for your body type. 💯💕👍🏼
SAME SAME SAME ❤ I was KETO for a year and then naturally transitioned to low carb / mediterranean whole food clean lifestyle. Essentially an overall healthy eating where moderation is key with a splurge here and there cuz life happens! Blessings to you and your health journey ✌️
Yo también llevo 5 años en Keto y nunca lo he dejado, no es necesario cambiar a low carb u otro estilo de alimentación. Keto no hace daño a largo plazo.
I’ve lost 50kg through a keto diet and fasting. 40kg was lost in 11 months. The last 10kg has been a slow one as I’ve hit an emotional stump. But I was 130kg, size 24 in pants. I couldn’t touch my feet to put my shoes on at 26 years old and thought that was normal. I had to get seat belt extenders on planes and was always treated different. So thankful for the low carb diet and how it’s changed my life. I focused on quality protein with homemade seasonings and marinades and sauces rather than packaged. I also watched my calorie intake as I love cheese and high calorie proteins like beef and salmon so I watched my calories and aimed for 50g carbs total (not net carbs) per day. 1500 calories a day max until I lost 40kg. Then I moved to 1300 calories a day.
I lost 65 lbs back in 2018 with keto. I actually healed the inside of my body so well it cured my pcos and I got pregnant at 40 after being told it was no option back in 2006. I do find carb cycling is easier for maintaining. I did it again after I had my daughter and have maintained it since. Going lean just low carb allowed me to drop the final 10 lbs I really wanted to lose to get my high school weight back.
I going into my second week of doing keto and I felt sooo energetic so light just so good overall and one day i definitely had a high carb day and oh my gosh the difference I felt from the crash to the long naps after I definitely would love to incorporate keto as my lifestyle or even just low carb . Love you and your channel 🤍
Hi! I’ve lost 84lbs since Nov 16, 2022. I still have 50 lbs to go with 9 months to do it to meet my goal 😊 I’ve done IF and lower carb lifestyle. I don’t think I’ve ever done true Keto, but for sure love not over indulging in carbs, especially the bad ones. I cut out all fast food and added sugars, no more processed foods, etc. I LOVE my new life and never want to go back to my old lifestyle. 🙏🏽💪🏽 Gracias, Mayra! ❤
SAME! I am a foodie and found it hard. It was not about eating Keto, because the food was good, but more so the social aspect of it, the wine and sometimes a good old juicy burger, or stone oven pizza. It’s also nice not to always have to plan everything you eat. Now, I just try to eat low carb as much as possible. If I eat carbs, I will try and balance the other days. What I do love about keto is that it helps you eat a high level of veggies and avoid fillers such as rice and potatoes. The thing that I don’t like about eating carbs again are the sugar cravings, the late afternoon slumber and the mind getting foggy again. I guess it’s all about balance. KETO works really well, but I don’t think that it sustainable forever. Anyways, your channel is called LOW CARB LOVE and not KETO LOVE 😉 Wish you all the best on your new journey!😘
Very true about how it stinks to have to always plan out ahead of time when going out to eat. I always have to look up the menu and most times I can find something but I hate being that person that keeps everyone from going to a certain spot cause I can't have anything there..usually it's like Asian cuisine. And man I miss ramen nights!!!
Thank you I am about to go away on a 3 week break and I was very worried about how I will manage my keto lifestyle but going to stick to a low carb diet and keto when I can and not stress about it. ❤❤❤️
I actually just started this year on improving my health through nutrition. I use a lot of keto recipes, but I don't focus on a diet. I just balance carbs, protein, fiber, and good fat. Some high fiber toast with eggs or cottage cheese in the morning satiates me until lunch and I'm not craving carbs at lunch as much. I've lost 25 lbs so far. 🥰
The hubs and I started a low carb lifestyle last August. He's lost 70 lbs and I've lost 50 lbs. It's just how we live/eat now. We celebrate and indulge occasionally. Your videos have helped with that. We try to get some extra activity when we do but we haven't felt deprived at all. We love meat and veg. Thanks for what you do Mayra!
Thank you so much Myra for being transparent & keeping it real. When I was first started Keto primarily for health reasons to reverse my Type 2 Diabetes & this channel was a great help to me❤. That was 2 years ago! Now with some life challenges currently, I'm struggling & sticking with Keto has been really hard since I'm a stress eater & my go to comfort foods is Ice Cream, cake & cookies 😭. I've gained back 20lbs of the total 50lbs I lost. But I know when I get back focused I will have the tools & the many recipes from your channel to help, so again Thank U❤
Lost my weight in 2013. Not a problem to stay away from sugar, and I love protein. I have a piece of cake once in awhile. I’m 76, and feel very healthy. I walk 3 miles a day too. Love making sourdough too…
Thank you for sharing. I was 56 and 198 pounds when I started, I’m now 61 and weigh 148. It wasn’t a quick weight loss due to hormones but after that adjustment, the weight started coming off. It took almost a year but I’m satisfied with my results. Keto taught me self-discipline and healthier eating habits. I feel terrible when I eat carbs, so I try to refrain but I agree that it’s difficult sometimes. Keto is not hard but it can be inconvenient. I am so grateful for people like you that educate people and remain so real. You’re a beautiful person! ❤
Thank you for being real with not only yourself, but with your fans. Great job keeping off your weight. Ive currently lost 50 lbs, have another 30-40 to go, but what I am scared of is the maintenance. This helps.
I just started my low carb journey. I thought about doing Keto, but I realized that I just would not be able to maintain that level of restrictiveness. I've done very well on a low carb diet. I've lost 45 pounds and lowered my A1C. I still enjoy some Keto recipes because they allow me to enjoy a moderate amount of carbs in other meals, but I wouldn't be able to stick with it day after day. Everyone must do what works best for them and their health. Happy to hear you'll still be posting low carb and even Keto friendly recipes! Thank you for all the great recipes and ideas!
From what I have learned, healthy and keto 3 to 4 days a week and then carbs one day. This works on your metabolic system in a positive way. Integrating intermittent fasting into this system is a homerun for weight loss!
This video felt soooo much like I’m just chilling in your kitchen having coffee with you 💜 I love this and I’ve definitely decided low carb is better than keto for me too. I want to have good thoughts when I think of food. Not fearful
I was largely on keto for about five years too. In the beginning, it was great. It gets REALLY old. I recently switched to a vegan diet with mostly complex carbs, and it (ironically) feels so much more free. I was sick of cutting out what felt like entire food groups. So, I relate!
I’ve been on keto for 4yrs. I’m no longer keto but I’m on a low carb lifestyle. I loved keto and it’s a great tool. I think it’s awesome for ppl that want to start. When I first started I was 184lbs in 2 months I was 165lbs. If I gain a few more pounds than I want I cut back but I’m living life. I have lost and gained but at a happy place. I love my bananas and watermelon and can’t no longer live without them.
Finally learnming what and how yourbody processes food was the key for me. Most of us have been in the dark all of our lives about that. And I think the profiteers in the food and medical indiustries hace had an intentional hand in building that darkness. LOW CARB and knowledge about highly processed foods is now out in the Light for many and I hope it keeps spreading like wild fire.
I've gained 9 pounds since I stopped Keto in Feb. However, I think portion control and mindful eating has been very helpful to avoid gaining all the weight back.
Usually, I think the reason this happens to many people is that they still keep the fats in a relatively high range now IN ADDITION to the carbs. It's tough to transition when you're accustomed to eating such a high percentage of fat
I know I will gain weight after transitioning from Keto to Low carb and I wonder if I should lose more than my goal so I have the room to gain??? Not sure if that's even a thing lol.
I think the intermittent fasting time is also very important. Fasting Foodie lost weight & maintains that weight loss with just an Intermittent Fasting Lifestyle with an eating window of usually 22:2 6 days a week of an OMAD, a down day of 500 calories with the OMAD & then 1 up day with eating 2 or 3 meals within usually a 6-hour window. She clean fasts, which is very important. No diet soda during the fasting time. She will drink water, plain coffee or sparkling water with plain LMNT in it during her fasting time. She eats a good variety of food.
If I may ask, what do you consider a "low carb lifestyle"? Under 50 carbs a day? 75? 25? I've chosen the keto diet to fix my insulin resistance and fatty liver but more importantly to get my brain working on ketones instead of glucose. So far it has helped tremendously with my symptoms of depression and bipolar disorder. Losing 50 pounds was just icing. However, I can see where I might want to enjoy some additional carbs occasionally. I agree that the keto lifestyle can be a bit too restrictive sometimes.........like Thanksgiving! LOL! Too many carbs would knock me out of ketosis and I don't know how that would affect the depression symptoms. I'm assuming the symptoms would return and wreak havoc again.
You just have to find what works for you I do like a hundred carbs at least a day that makes me feel the best but it also kind of matter sometimes what kind of carbs you're getting are they healthier or unhealthy
I went from pure keto to Mediterranean Keto and never looked back! I am diabetic and taking no meds. My A1C went from 11.0 to 6.0 in just 4 months and I continue to work it down further to normal ranges. Oh and my Cholesterol levels are looking great! I am also an exercise addict so that helps! You are on the right path! Just mix it up and stay away from bad carbs once in a while. I still reward myself with the occasional and I mean occasional sweets to keep it real! You have a new subscriber! Cheers!
Welcome to the club girl…..same here, just maintaining my weight after being on Keto and low carb….still trying to be low carb , but not as strict as before….got my ideal weight and just maintaining, have 2 meals a day and intermittent fasting…
I completely agree with you. I eat low, fibrous carbs, but I am not "keto" per se. I love all fruits and can't deprive myself of eating fruits so I refrain from SOME carbs like potatoes and rice (I actually am ok with swapping veggies or Cauliflowerrice for real rice), but I don't restrict my carbs to certain amount of grams per day as required on a keto diet. I am only limiting carbs while I'm trying to lose weight. I lost 20 pounds since May and have 20 more to go 🙌 the only keto foods that I may continue eating after I attain my weight loss goal are keto cakes and sweets because I have a serious sweet tooth 😒
Everyone just pick a healthy eating option and commit to it. Like signing a contract with yourself or a marriage. That's what I did. I chose low carb lifestyle. I LOVE this way of eating! SO many options! I took my triglycerides from 400 to 114! Lost 80 lbs. and now I'm just maintaining. Doing this for the rest of my life.
Hi Mayra. I’m definitely low carb, high protein. I’ve never checked my ketones, I eat between 10am and 6pm, but I’m not completely strict with that. I have, so far, lost 31+ pounds, and I, too, cannot feel like I’m restricted such that I feel bad if I slip up. There is nothing that I miss that badly right now (about 5-6 months in) but if there was something I absolutely had to have, I would have a small bite and be good. I realize this isn’t the same for everyone. I’m 62, I did Atkins back 25 years ago, lost 40 lbs. I’ve had bariatric surgery, lost the typical 10% of my weight. But I was ultimately not successful. I am low carb now…I take it one day at a time! One reason I feel I am, and can continue to be, successful is because of channels like yours, the Keto Twins, Serious Keto…not to leave any others out, but there are so many recipes, tips, tricks, and products available to us now. Congratulations on reaching your goal. I look forward to any and all low carb recipes that may come in the future.
That's awesome! I also watch SeriousKeto which he is just as amazing! I also will eat whatever I want to satisfy, like if I want it I want it haha. But I feel I have gained enough knowledge and discipline where it's never an overboard issue, ya know?
I am so glad you shared your keto to low carb transition story. You always keep it real with us! That’s why we love you! I’m actually in the weight loss phase of low carbing and intermittent fasting. I need to lose 25 more pounds and I’ll just low carb. I’d love to hear about how any bloodwork you may have after switching to only low carb. I’m sure you’ll still be on point. Keep us posted! ❤
Totally agree. I did strict keto to get the kick start on weight loss and my D2 under control. I lost 1/4 of my weight over 8 mos period 3 years ago. I expanded to a more low carb approach this last year for same reason (less restrictive) and I feel like I still make better decisions as a low carb lifestyle. Pasta, potatoes, rice, pizza is a rare treat but I struggle with salty snacks and a glass of wine, the occasional cookie (one) and that bagel you mentioned made my mouth water. I still do IF 16/8, 2 meals 10:30-6:30 without effort, this seems natural for me. Glad you brought this up as a lifestyle that can be maintained
I have done Keto 3 times, but never saw a significant weight loss. It was very depressing seeing others drop weight when I wasnt. I dont know what I did wrong, and constantly go over everything I ate. So i am now working on just a low carb lifestyle in the hope i will lose weight this way. I love your low carb recipes and make many of them weekly.❤ Wish me luck! 😊
Just keep in mind that keto is not for every body. Each body is different and has different needs. Some bodies thrive on high carbs, some on moderate, and some on low. If you did everything right on keto and gave it a full 90 days to get fat adapted and find no progress is being made in any aspect of your dietary lifestyle, then I’d suggest a different dietary lifestyle. We all have to find what works for us.
I started Keto and OMAD about 18 month ago. I was a type 2 diabetic and had a A1C of 12.3. I also had very high blood pressure and of coarse fatty liver disease. My starting weight was 440 pounds and I'm now down to 245, with about 60 pounds to go. Not too bad for 18 months, but even better, I'm off all my diabetes and high blood pressure medications. My last A1C was at 4.4, my doctor almost fell out of his chair. Once I get to my goal weight, I might switch back to 2 meals a day. However, just easting low carb I've learned to enjoy all whole foods now. I make all my own meals and nothing out of a package. Also NO seed oils, just butter (ghee) or extra virgin olive oil. I don't miss the carbs at all, especially since I can replace many of them with healthy alternatives.
@@powerguiller, True, but my choleterol wasn't too bad, but he still suggested a statin. I pretty much told him to read up on Keto and high LDL, or I'll find another doctor. Since then he doesn't bring it back up anymore. I had the full heart workup with stress test, then echo cardiogram and finly a calcium artery score, which was a zero.
I love that you’re very open minded. Like you I started keto then went low carb for maintenance. I still stay away from most carbs because it raises my glucose but I cannot stick with keto either, it is too restrictive.
Thank you so much for sharing your story Julianne! Openminded is the way to go, but I also love to tell others that you should lead with a health mentality and not a weight loss mentality. That meaning, do things that feel good for your body that you can maintain and the weight loss will follow. This usually happens when you're making better choices 🥰
I totally agreed 100%. I lost 50 lbs on keto. In 6 months and I stay on it almost 3 years. Total I have lost is 65lbs, but I can't do it anymore. I missed fruits so much. I can see low carb is better for for me too. Thank you.
I think you've got the right idea. Low carb is an excellent tool for getting back on track. Personally, I have an addiction to carbs so when I have them a couple days in a row, the cravings are insane. I've found it's easier for me to stay below 50 total carbs per day to keep those cravings away and stay on track with maintaining my weight loss. I'm at three years now and feel like I have a good sense of control which is the most important aspect of diet for me.
I needed to hear this today! After doing keto for two years I have been adding more and more carbs and have gained some weight. I need to lose more, at least 30 lbs more. Back on keto for me! Tracking what I eat will help me! ❤❤❤
Thank you for your honesty! Exactly why I decided not to go Keto. It can aid in jumpstarting weight-loss and reversing health conditions like diabetes but it’s not sustainable. I even have a cousin who is a nutritionist and stated that it’s too restrictive and your body will be like a sponge when you do decide to transition. Simply cut back, exercise and maintain your weight by not over indulging. I’m glad you mentioned habits and pills that aid in weight loss too. I have family members who think they can drink ACV and continue to eat fried chicken and cornbread and lose weight. You have to put in the work!
I have been keto, and then low carb, for about 3 years now after finding out I was pre-diabetic. Keto rapidly got my blood sugar under control and got me out of pre-diabetes, and I also lost 21 pounds that I needed to lose. I use My Fitness Pal to track my calories and carbs, and have weighed myself every single day for 3 years. Yes, I know that’s not always a good thing but it works for me, keeps things in check. I also work out 4 days a week. I just got back from a life-changing “girls’ trip” (with my mom and 2 adult daughters) to England and Scotland (I live in the US) and decided while I was there to eat everything I wanted to and not worry about it. I ate sticky toffee pudding, steak pie, cheesecake, potatoes, fish and chips, you name it, I ate it 😆. In addition, although we did a TON of walking, I didn’t “work out” for 10 days, did not weigh myself, and did not track a single calorie or carb. I ate intuitively, ate two meals a day, ate whatever I wanted during those two meals, and wasn’t snacking a lot like I tend to do at home. When I came home I was sure I gained at least 5 pounds. I mainly wore leggings and looser jeans the whole time I was there so it was hard to gauge. Imagine my shock when I got on the scale and I had actually lost a pound!!😱 This has shown me that I don’t always need to be so restrictive about what I eat or track every single thing that passes my lips. My body can adjust to some extra carbs every now and then and it won’t kill me to have the cheesecake or some potatoes once in a while. I do need to keep an eye on my A1C and glucose levels to make sure I stay out of my previous pre-diabetic range, but I feel as long as I balance a mainly low carb lifestyle with a day or two a week for extra treats, I should be ok. Love your videos and recipes, and appreciate your honesty!!
Keto is wonderful way to drop the weight and living a low carb lifestyle has changed my life. I feel so energetic that I could never go back to eating unhealthy. I have been on a low carb journey for 4 years and I love it. Thank you for helping me turn my life around for the best. 💙
Thanks for this very personal video. I wish you all the best. I started keto to help with weight loss too but it also has helped get control of my diabetes. I lost about nearly 100lbs… reversed nearly all my health problems… my kidney pain is gone, body acne is gone, not seeing stars, stopped feeling dizzy, so much more energy. Keto changed my life for the better.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us😊I originally started strict keto almost 3 years ago to manage chronic inflammation, and it was life changing! As someone who is already pretty slim, I wasn't looking for weight loss, and the beauty of keto is that your body is smart and doesn't go beyond your healthy weight:) Like you, I started to feel the need to introduce small amounts of carbs, especially during PMS/period, and even more so now, as I recover from foot surgery. Not a pound has been gained and infact, I've even lost some sadly😔 But, my inflammation is still controlled on a low carb lifestyle. Cheers to you for listening to your body! I believe it always tells us what it needs😌
WOW!! I love that . Keto can also be beneficial to those not looking to lose weight as well. I'm gad it helped with chronic inflammation as well. Thank you for sharing, love 🩷
Love you Myra! I've started Keto to lose my post pregnancy weight and hopefully, once I reach my goal of 30lbs weight loss I will transition to low carb. I am definitely having success, and so much of it is because of your content and recipes. The first few times I did keto, even though I was successful, it was hard to sustain for me because I had no clue about low carb or keto options for substitutes or recipes that were actually good! Thanks for all you do!
I was keto about 9 months and it served its purpose for me. I did lose weight and fast, but being keto showed me how strong I was. That I was able to resist the bad foods that got me to my highest weight of 340. I just got to a point where I knew how to eat healthy, I work out regularly and my entire life is just different now. I am 240 now and still losing weight. When I was out with family and friends it was helllaaaa stressful not being able to enjoy being out because I couldn’t eat with them. I would literally be at the table like, “does the salad dressing have sugar? Just oil and vinegar please…”. I was out, my friends ordered a charcuterie board and I was like guys….I’m going to eat this cracker?? They were like girl, if you don’t eat that damn cracker. Lol. It felt crazy after so long to eat a real carb. But it felt great. I learned that I could balance and I was no longer the person I was. I am still primarily low carb. If I want a flippin baked potato though I’m going to eat it.
Honestly you did keto for the wrong reasons if your reasoning was to "see how strong you are"... no the purpose of keto is to be healthy internally and rid yourself of insulin resistance/diabetes. You're just making yourself a yoyo dieter which you will be worse off now then you were before. Please look up dr Bergs videos on going on and off diets. Your metabolism has now stabilized and that is REALLY bad for your long term health.
I think this is a great next step for a lot of people on this journey. I have a little bit more to lose before I’m satisfied but I had always planned to transition off being so restricted. I understand what keto is doing for my body and will keep those principles and habits forever.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I live a low carb lifestyle too and find that it’s most attainable for me. Did keto for a year and lost a lot of weight but low carb has helped me maintain it 😊
Thank you for this video! I and I’m sure there are tons of people who completely understand. I often feel the same way and I’ve only been doing keto/low-carb consistently for 3 1/2 months. At this point, I am pressing to lose another 10 pounds, and then I will be mindful and transition into eating a little differently as you are until I reach my goal weight. I do definitely plan to do intermittent fasting the rest of my life. And that is because fasting has so many health benefits, and I truly want to eat to live and not live to eat. But, also enjoy good food! Moderation is definitely the key and eating when you’re hungry. Knowledge is power and once you have the knowledge you then have the power! Again thanks for sharing because a lot of people are feeling the same way. Love and blessings always ❤️
I'm doing keto for the second time, because unfortunately I'm a stress eater and COVID hit 😳. The good thing is I love keto and all the food, so for me it's not restrictive, but I love a lot of other foods 😊 I have found that with this second round I can carb cycle and lose more. Keto is always slow and steady for me. I want to get healthier, being more physical and like you said mentally healthy. I just turned 54 going thru menopause and don't want to be miserable as I get older! So the goal is to be healthy! Love your channel ❤
Mayra I'm a huge fan! Best of luck however you decide to eat. I just hope you still share with us your amazing keto or low carb recipes. I'll be eternally grateful for the tamales video with your mom, that was the thing that made Christmas feel like Christmas again. I'm from Costa Rica, and getting that style tamales in north Carolina is about impossible!
Good for you. So glad you aren’t leaving us. I don’t count macros, calories or anything. I go low carb occasionally to control sugar spikes and cravings. After 3 months of strict low carb, I start adding in occasional foods, like Keto bread and low carb tortillas. It makes low carb doable. Watch those keto recipes. So much heavy cream and so forth if just doing low carb.
I learned some great recipes from you. I discovered that eating low carb but not Keto is still helpful. Eating keto is extremely difficult for my family financially, which is why I stopped, but I still learned about carb balancing, cutting down on sugar, and eating protein for weight management. Much love.
I have been high protein and fat keto for over a year. I read about a doctor on low carb keto for cancer treatment. He survived (over 7 years+ remission) and note this: He had a "clean" carb day on Sunday. Fruit and honeycomb only I believe. Called it "metabolic flexibility". He said only to start this after about 3 months. I think that was because the cravings become nominal to nothing. I'm very carb sensitive (love sweets) and I started having high carbs on Saturday evening into Sunday. I keep it clean most times, but the freedom to not worry and have something to look forward to every week makes worth it for me. By the way I haven't really gained more than 2-4 pounds doing that, and I'm not sure if it's extra muscle. I've been doing it about three months. And I can go right back to Keto, just like you said, with no cravings!
I was on a strict keto diet and lost 54 pounds. I developed heart palpitations and my doctor determined I wasn’t eating enough. I am now on low carb clean diet and feeling better.
I don't think TTail1's comment is necessarily blaming keto. They're just sharing their experience. I do appreciate darknesssleeps coming to defend keto, especially when there are those who may be more quick to blame it even though they may not have all the information. At the end of the day keto has helped millions of people but there are those who didn't feel it's a fit. Everyone's body is different. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes after a really stressful year and didn't even realize I had been treating it with keto. Keto definitely worked for me but it requires a lot of time to be able to find healthy food and cook it or have the funds and the resources to access it. A lot of people, despite living in first world countries, do not have consistent access to these.
I've lost just about 100 lbs on a low carb lifestyle. I do a "Keto when I can" and a "low carb as much as possible diet". I'm on disability, and with prices these days - I'm very food challenged. Keto and healthier food options are more expensive. There have even been times where I've had to go to food pantries, where I've gotten pasta, rice, potato chips and ice cream. I've learned that when eating carbs, add as much veggies as you can to lessen the amount of the carbs, (often pasta) It drives me crazy that the no sugar options are always TWICE as expensive as the other choices - that's when big box stores even carry the no sugar options. You have to learn to bend a little, not beat yourself up when you can't eat the way you want to - it's a process and sticking to the plan as often as you are able will still bring you results, they may take a little longer maybe - but you definitely will get there if you stick to low carb as much as possible.
Thanks for the affirmation Myra, since my wife passed away in 2009, I decided to start walking every single night for a mile to a mile and a half. I could not for the life of me figure out why I wasn’t even losing a half a pound for all the years that I walked. Fast forward to 2023, and I stumbled across keto and all this time. All I needed to do was stop carbs and sugar and Bam, I’ve lost about 35 pounds and can fit in the clothes that I’ve always wanted to fit back into. Like you I struggle when I go to restaurants with my son because we both love to eat but I just got to figure out that I have to stay away from sweet tea and anything that has to do with carbs. Thank you Mira for your recipes and I’m gonna continue to follow your recipes.
Good for you! I have been keto for over 4 years. I went full tilt for the first year and dropped 120 pounds. My labs were remarkable for a 64 year old. During COVID I continued keto carb rules but stopped caring about quantity (25 oz ribeye instead of 12 oz) I gained back about 30 pounds over the last 3 years but I'm still down 90 pounds! Lately, I've been deviating from time to time but I get right back into ketosis in a day or so. I'm like you though, I prefer meat, veg and fat. Popcorn every now and the is cool!! The journey continues!
I am not a fan of RUclips but I adore your recipes and take on the low carb lifestyle. Kudos to you! I found out a year ago I was type 2 diabetic. I have successfully turned that around by losing over 60 lbs and now, I am no longer diabetic. All done without exercising (given few military injuries) and only took meds for first 3 months. I love, love food like you. I tire of the "keto" label. It stresses me out too. I have maintained by just counting carbs lately. I would love to lose another 30lbs, but I hate the lack of diverse foods and the crazy ingredients or not able to find the crazy ingredients. Can't wait to see your new recipes and thank you for your guidance, help. Keep the AWESOME coming :)
Congratulations on your weight loss and getting off of medication. Keep up the great work! Happy for you! 😊
Would you possibly share how much weight you've lost in 2 months please?

Wow !! Did you eat low carb or did you just watched your calorie intake?
I stopped craving carbs on keto. I'd rather eat steak and shrimp. I honestly think keto saved my life. I have hashimotos and gained weight rapidly. With keto, I lost 60lbs in 6months.
I’ve been on keto for 7 years, this year I transitioned to low carb, high protein, because I noticed a muscle loss and my skin became more soggy. Now I think that keto is great for fixing health issues and after that switching to low carb, healthy, clean lifestyle
do you still use an app to know what you're eating?
@@dana102083 sometimes
I'm with you there. I have done the same.
Snap girl😁🌷
I agree with everything that was said in this video! 450 to 188 lbs and maintaining with a low carb lifestyle.

I don't feel Keto as a diet, rather a life style. Losing a few items that are high in carbs is not a killer for me.

Very good. What clean keto recipe or books etc. Did you use or follow?
Love that you both went on the journey and found success ❤

I’ve been keto on/off x5 years and I’ve noticed that cycling with low carb makes it more realistic for me. I don’t feel as bad eating the cake at a birthday or pizza once in a while with my kids. It’s best to focus on Whole Foods but you have to do what works for you.
💯! I let myself enjoy the occasional celebratory or holiday meal. Sometimes a full day of eating. But I get back on track and let myself have those breaks. Much more manageable for me. The problem is when people have like 3 or 4 cheat meals every week and expect to stay in ketosis lol.
I get it. Staying on Keto is very hard. My brother could not completely cut some stuff out. He did get healthier. It just took him longer.
I didn't lose a massive amount of weight. I lose 40 pounds, but I am off my insulin, blood pressure, and thyroid medications. That means a lot to me. I start keto after watching your videos. I am no longer on keto, and I have again a little weight back. Hope to be able to stay on track.
So stopping it didn’t get you back to medications?

What? 40 pounds isn't a massive amount? That's great!!!!! Be careful with the holidays. I also took a break since there really isn't any weight to lose, as I weigh 100lbs. Happy Holidays and keep up the good work.
What? 40 lbs is awesome! I am just starting low carb and want to lose about 50lbs.

@@cathyosborn9905🙄 that's all you got from this inspirational comment?
💯. Low carb is healthier
I agree with everything you have said. I was keto for 3 years, and now low carb adding in the vegies that weren’t allowed on keto and I’ve maintained my loss for 2 years. What s the difference? Isn't t keto low carb or no carb at all?
I started Keto in 2018 and lost 120 lbs and have been in the same thinking mode as you. I am trying to transition away and do more low carb. I am eager to watch your journey and hopefully gain some knowledge to assist me so I don't gain it all back ( my greatest nightmare and fear). Thanks for sharing. 120 lbs, Wow! That is an amazing accomplishment for sure and very encouraging. Congrats.
No simple carbs, no processed foods, high protein and healthy fats, and intermittent fasting has worked for me. Lost 50 pounds over the course of a year. Off all my medications...
How do you incorporate intermittent fasting?
@@epinedo
18/6 at least 3 days a week. 24 hour fast at least once a month.
I think this is the answer
@@epinedo Literally all you do is make an eating window. A popular one is 16:8, which often means you ONLY eat bettween 12 noon and 8pm. That literally amounts to nothing more than not eating breakfast. It's nothing more than "don't eat before x hour and don't eat past y hour."
If you think about it, it's no different from "eat breakfast before work, eat lunch during your lunch break, eat supper when you get home, and then don't eat again until breakfast the next morning," while you may or may not choose to eat a snack here or there between your meals through the day before the shut-off period.
I'm glad that you know yourself and that you can live life with maintenance and peace of mind.
dumb question but what is IF?
Good night

Thanks for posting and best of luck Mayra. A clean low carb diet isn’t as restrictive as the Keto and allows for more variety. Achieving metabolic flexibility is what’s worked for me ✌
Thank you so much for sharing! How do you achieve metabolic flexibility and what has worked for you?
Same here!! I finally changed my mentality as well. Slow and steady I'm losing inches and gaining muscle
Me too
Hopefully Reggie shares his experience, but typically metabolic flexibility needs to trained* with one or both of extended ketosis and fasting - ideally 24+ hour and multi-day @@LowCarbLove.

Thanks for all you do.❤
Being healthy is really what I am all about to the core. Thank you for sharing your journey 🧡
Go easy on you, love and be patient with yourself. How about starting little by little? Baby steps are still steps, and even if you moved just a bit, it's still movement.

Lifting weights and walking is good for us 50 year old😅
Also, I started watching videos on perimenopause and menopause to help me understand the changes in my body and what I can do. You are not alone.

Can you please share the food you eat?

I was in keto for a year and now I’m doing low carb and I love it, I can eat everything!
I learned to balance proteín with carbs and I’m loving it! 🥰
That's great!!! My biggest concern is pastas and rice...how do you do that or what type do you use?
@@jojo060612 I just eat rice twice a week
I’m not a rice lover 🤣🤣 but I do like pasta I just eat half of cup for the craving and eat it with protein, most of the time I eat the protein first then the pasta or rice!
Could u please tell mw what’s the different between keto and low carb diet?
Sometimes I have the munchies,(should eat) it can be hard and I'm tried of eating nuts, cheese, dark chocolate, etc.. and all you want is chips. Until recently, I found no sugar, very low carb Chicken Breast Chips.. They are Awesome! Expensive! But sooo tasty and delicious. 😋 Hope this helps.
I loved keto! I lost over 50 lbs. Keto helped me eat healthier. Did it over a yr and now I'm low carb.
Me…. Not so much…
I went for my yearly checkup and my cholesterol levels were thru the roof!!!
And whala…. Without even trying I lost 23lbs and my blood work AND A1C is back down to normal again…
Keto isn’t a “one size fits all” diet. There are others out there like me, that practiced Keto perfectly, to a Tee…. And it did not work for them…
I can’t tell you how many times I have had people say to me “you weren’t doing it right then, because it worked great for me”…. But every person, every Body in motion, is different.
Many women of my age group (53) can not do keto because of cholesterol or insulin issues…. You just have to find what diet works for your body type. 💯💕👍🏼
SAME SAME SAME ❤
I was KETO for a year and then naturally transitioned to low carb / mediterranean whole food clean lifestyle. Essentially an overall healthy eating where moderation is key with a splurge here and there cuz life happens!
Blessings to you and your health journey ✌️
Yes! Pay attention to your body and spruling every now and then is A-okay! It's all about balance and mindset. You got this! 💛
YES!!!! So happy for you. Be proud of all you've accomplished ❤
Anyways, your channel is called LOW CARB LOVE and not KETO LOVE 😉
Wish you all the best on your new journey!😘
Very true about how it stinks to have to always plan out ahead of time when going out to eat. I always have to look up the menu and most times I can find something but I hate being that person that keeps everyone from going to a certain spot cause I can't have anything there..usually it's like Asian cuisine. And man I miss ramen nights!!!
Thank you I am about to go away on a 3 week break and I was very worried about how I will manage my keto lifestyle but going to stick to a low carb diet and keto when I can and not stress about it. ❤❤❤️
U cant do this to ur body as it's a huge stress to switch from ketosis and back. If u want carbs, just eat carbs. I dont want carbs.
I'm happy to have helped in your journey 💚
Congrats! Truly inspiring.
Congratulations on meeting your weight loss goals! Good luck on your next steps in life.
Thank you for sharing 🩵
I’ve been on keto for 4yrs. I’m no longer keto but I’m on a low carb lifestyle. I loved keto and it’s a great tool. I think it’s awesome for ppl that want to start. When I first started I was 184lbs in 2 months I was 165lbs. If I gain a few more pounds than I want I cut back but I’m living life. I have lost and gained but at a happy place. I love my bananas and watermelon and can’t no longer live without them.
Good for you! 🧡 😊
Olive bananas and watermelon too!
Addiction is real.
You just confirmed why I can never leave keto. Losing 9 lbs is no small feat, and I sure as hell don't want any weight back once it's gone.
@Joe_C. good point, I didn't even think of that!! Oh boy, lots to learn for this transition but appreciate it!
YES!!!! Love that you found what works for you. Thank you for sharing ❤
If you have a high choleterol, your doctor will automatically prescribes you a statin even though your A1c level is low.
So wonderful to see you again. You are a delightful person and wish the best at whatever you challenge.💗
Your honesty and realness is refreshing!!! Thanks for sharing your journey!!
I started watching your channel when you had your daughter for low carbs so I love how you continue to show both low carbs/keto.
Thank you for sharing your journey 🧡
Imagine my shock when I got on the scale and I had actually lost a pound!!😱
This has shown me that I don’t always need to be so restrictive about what I eat or track every single thing that passes my lips.
Wow!! So good 💜
Thank you for sharing your experience with us😊I originally started strict keto almost 3 years ago to manage chronic inflammation, and it was life changing!
YES! Thank you for watching my recipes. Which one have you tried?
i love the 2 ingredient egg/spinach wraps and your bagels!@@LowCarbLove
I was keto about 9 months and it served its purpose for me. I did lose weight and fast, but being keto showed me how strong I was. That I was able to resist the bad foods that got me to my highest weight of 340. I just got to a point where I knew how to eat healthy, I work out regularly and my entire life is just different now. I am 240 now and still losing weight. When I was out with family
and friends it was helllaaaa stressful not being able to enjoy being out because I couldn’t eat with them.
Hahahahhahahah ❤
That is the life of a diabetic......it was a difficult adjustment. I very very rarely eat out anymore, at all......ever.
Knowledge is power and I try to educate what I learned so you guys can find your own success in your own journeys. Thanks for sharing 💙
Much love.
Keto is extremely cheap. If you’re finding it expensive then you’re cooking the wrong recipes
Really? Is it because food prices in general are more expensive?
Don’t blame keto for that. That was really kind of your fault for not eating the correct calorie count
I've learned that when eating carbs, add as much veggies as you can to lessen the amount of the carbs, (often pasta)
It drives me crazy that the no sugar options are always TWICE as expensive as the other choices - that's when big box stores even carry the no sugar options.
Your Keto recipes changed our lives for the better! Even my daughter and husband enjoyed it over the summer..Thank You for the sacrifice!!
YEs! Which ones have yo tried? Which one is your favorite?
@@LowCarbLove I think the orange chicken, crispy keto fries and it’s an old one but the Costco chicken bake!!!! Delicious
