    Great video and I like the hat! I'm in the Pacific northwest and last year I said to my wife, " I wonder with the weather getting hotter if more guys will start wearing hats in the summer?" Well, this year I have. One a recent outing I say several guys wearing straw Fedoras. One twenty something guy was even wearing a straw Open Road.
    Have you noticed more men in your neck of the woods wearing hats this summer?
    Happy 4th of July brother,
    PS. I think I'll steal your line line, "I've wore the stew out of that." It's kinda fun and gets the point across without being vulgar. I like that. I'll. also use the "hotter than a two dollar pistol."

    Many thanks for the information and review of this particular line from Stetson. 👍
    The construction of this hat is of great importance to me, as in the woods of East Texas, where I live is not only humid, but prone to lots of rain. Simply put, we require a hat that can take a drenching and not fall apart.

    Just before Christmas I saw a new $25,000.00 Panama for sale. Yup, and they kept in what I'd call a glass humidor. They had a few other very high quality hats around $5,000.00. I bought my Panama and my wife's Gambler Panama at that store a year ago for $250 OTD each.

    Just bought this palm leaf hat. I only planed on wearing it on the occasional bad hair day so maybe the shantung would have been better, but it rains so much where I live that I wasn't comfortable with the paper hat. I did notice that the hat straw is woven very tightly. I can put a flashlight inside the hat, but I can't see the light through the hat on the outside. Despite this, surprisingly, I didn't feel hot while wearing it. Others claim you can make the hat cooler by running cold water through the hat & putting it on as long as you don't mind a wet head. I did notice the hat seems slightly heavier than paper straw hats. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase & I got a compliment on it the first day I wore it. I kinda would like to try Stetson's panama straw version of this hat, although it's $200 &. I would rather invest in a good felt hat next. I'm also curious about Stetson's waxed cotton fedora which is made to wear in the rain

      I have switched back and forth between the palm straw Rushmore and the Shantung straw Adventurer over the past couple of weeks and have not found one to be hotter than the other despite scorching temperatures here. The Rushmore is decidedly more durable, but as I said in the video, the Adventurer is a bit dressier looking, at least in my opinion. Wear your hats in good health, and many thanks for watching!

I had originally planned to also review bourbon on this channel since I've got an extensive collection, but while the hat videos get thousands of views, the bourbon vids get only a few hundred. If anything, I know how to read my audience and stick to what interests them. Be well up in Washington state, Chief.

      I do have plans for new videos and will hopefully film them in the next few weeks. Wear what you like, and tell anyone who makes comments to smooch your hindquarters. If it makes you more comfortable, Stetson makes several "crossover" hats that are a blend of traditional cowboy hat with more conventional style. The Stetson Open Road is probably the first of such "crossover" hats. You might want to take a look at some of those.

    Both of those hats are quite handsome. I don't think that Rushmore is much more casual looking than that Adventurer. Both would be fine with a coat and tie, IMO. • @historynerdsmancave7567
      @historynerdsmancave7567  Год назад +1

      As best I can tell, the Retro Panama is going to be more similar to the Adventurer than the Rushmore. As noted in my video, I wear the Adventurer with coat and tie at work because it is a bit more "dressy" looking in my opinion, but I wore the Rushmore with a seersucker suit recently and got many compliments. The palm straw Rushmore will be more durable than either the Adventurer or Retro as it is much thicker straw ropes vs braid and can get wet.

      @@historynerdsmancave7567 BTW- I did get the Rushmore and it took to shaping quite well, actually. I do wish the crown was a smidge taller to have a bit more to work with, and it did sit directly on my odd shaped head. I've managed to work the crown up just enough to where it's not sitting directly on my bald patch which seems to cover all but the sides of my head. In my opinion, the reshaping makes it look a bit more expensive! Thank you for all of the time and effort that u put into these video and into us lowly hat plebeians.

    • @historynerdsmancave7567
      @historynerdsmancave7567  7 месяцев назад

      Two significantly different kinds of straw - palm straw, which is a natural straw that can get wet, versus shantung straw, which is made from pressed paper and doesn't do well with prolonged water exposure. The Alderton will be a more intricate weave whereas the Rushmore is made from coils of palm straw rope. Enjoy your hat, and thanks for watching!

      Heck, brother, we all slow down as we get older...even Raylan Givens. Personally, I don't drink nearly as much booze, woo nearly as many gals, or shoot nearly as many gun thugs as I did 15 years ago, either. And, I agree, seeing Mr. Bad Guy strutting around in his tighty whities ain't something I necessarily want to watch repeatedly. But, with that said, the Jusitifed reboot may not be as good as the original, but it's still better than 90% of the other crap on TV these days. Be well, and thanks for watching the channel.
