Great game! Did you consider taking the second cannon? The first was in the discard spot and you decided to reveal the tactic and even though Genghisip didn’t have an easy transition there would be a case where he sends away an army (or more) and wins the inhabited and thus gets a decent way of transitioning. Also you talked a bit about whether to take both yellows for 1 CA or using 1 CA to develop theology. If the you were so unsure about the value of that last CA I for sure would have loved to hear your thoughts on leaving both opponents without cannons in the middle of age 2. Amazing game!! Very well played! Congrats!🎉
Thanks for your comment! You are right, taking the other copy of Cannons is definitely something to mention during this turn. I considered this move during the game but forgot about it in the video. Of course it is very tempting to make sure that both of the opponents don´t have access to Cannons and I think it would also be a very fine turn to go for the denial. However, I am playing on 5 CA and with that I have to be very careful with going for a denial, even if the price for that is relatively low. Even if Genghisip wins the Inhabited Territory and with that has an easier transition into Fortifications, I still think I would be fine with the outcome. He hasn´t upgraded his mines fully yet, and building a bunch of Cannons isn´t that cheap for him. At the end I think the following outcome is worse for me: I pay an additional CA for the cannons, and leave the Rev Idea for Genghisip, only for him (or whsvin) to have the Classic Army. I didn´t draw the Classic Army myself yet, and with both opponents being without Cannons, it is not unlikely that it will be revealed by one of my opponents at some point. So at the end I wasn´t willing to harm my own position, because I thought there is a good chance that the denial won´t do that much at the end. The price for the denial isn´t big, but with playing on 5 CA still something. Having the Rev idea (which I probably would have skipped when going for the denial) allowed me to develop both Strategy and Opera in one turn later in the game, while Genghisip "wasted" 1 CA on taking the Cannons. Those things are of course only known in hindsight. It still was a close desicion, and I think my evaluation might already change if I wouldn´t have knowledge about the Mobile Artillery tactic.
Thanks for the cool videos! At 48:56, did you consider playing Strategy this turn instead of Architecture? You'd lose a resource (no discount on the temple), but +3 strength for the coming round looks relevant. (Could even be +6 strength if you want to use a new extra military action to build a cannon.)
Thanks for your comment! I think it would also be a fine move to play the Strategy instead of the Architecture. The game is now already a while ago and I don´t remember exactly what knowledge I had about the age I events in the deck and how likely it was that there are some strength events in there that reward being the strongest. I don´t have any aggression in hand, so getting more strength might not do a lot in that regard, it maybe could force my opponents to build up some strength. Also with developing Strategy it is more likely that I am not the weakest at my next turn, making it more likely that I can push an event if I want to. With developing the Architecture I gain one resource for certain, while with developing the Strategy it could give me nothing, but also has the potential to give me more. One reason why I went for the Architecture is also, that I want to go for Bach, but I don´t know yet how cheaply he will be available for me. If I can get him at the next turn it could be nice to set up an opera immediately, but I might not have enough CA to go for both Architecture and Opera in one turn (when I develop Strategy the turn before), especially if I need to grab Bach for multiple CA. At the end I think both plays have their benefits and both are fine.
Damn, another perfect game with tactics coming in clutch! Of course you helped your luck a lot as always and you made Colossus do quite a lot of work... but it does seem Vlaada blessed your games so far!
At 1:18:00, isnt one of the bigger reasons to go vs Genghisip also that both players mainly get bailed out by air forces and whsvin has more chances (more cards get revealed after Genghisips turn) to find them? Compared to the others you have the least CA (= least cards taken away from the row), also there is a chance that Genghisip won't deny whsvin air forces, making it overall way more likely that whsvin will end up with them instead?
Yes, whsvin is more likely to get Air Forces in this situation (though I think the chances that Genghisip will leave the Air Forces to whsvin are almost 0, so it is mainly about the more cards revealead) and that is a reason to go against Genghisip. However, even with getting Air Forces, whsvin can´t easily go for more than 53 strength, while Genghisips defense is already at 52 without the Air Forces. So I would say Genghisip is a bit better prepared for the war, and the main reason why I still went against him was that I considered him the bigger contender for the first place.
Great game. Would it have been worth denying cannons? You could have taken the one in the 2 slot and the other would have been discarded? Not that you need advice!
@10 I was thinking taking Irrigation would block Michalangelo form the player with no leader and the Hanging Gardens but maybe he's not good enough an more even when producing a bunch of early culture.
Some aggressive Bach play for sure 😂 Nice win again! I thought about what you said at the beginning about Moses+HG combo. I find Moses just pumps those population out fast enough anyway until you hit the 0 food region and he becames useless, extra food makes it even faster with but is it really that good? Well at least those happy faces are something to keep all that population happy, but I think having too little population or too many unhappy faces are rarely a problem at the beginning anyway and just focusing on something else would be more efficient? Wouldnt Moses suit better Acropolis, where you might wan't to actually spam cheap buildings and have +1 limit for urban buildings early?
Thanks for your comment! You are right that Hanging Gardens is probably not (that much) needed during age I to get more population out. I think it is at the beginning of age II, where the Hanging Gardens come in handy, not necessarily because of the food, but because of the two happy faces. With having Moses you will often be already quite deep in the yellow bank by then, and without happy faces there is the big danger of a Rebellion, so without the Hanging Gardens it will often be necessary to invest into an age I happy face solution immediately to avoid this risk. Having the happy faces (without needing a worker for them) together with having had Moses will leave you with a lot of free population. Utilising all of them is often not that easy in age I, but I think at the beginning of age II it is often the time where some nice stuff can be done with the workers. Either to put all of them into the military, in order to take the strength lead and maybe even pull of an aggression. Or there easily can be build a 4th mine, maybe a 3rd Alchemy. Or it can be possible to go for Printing Presses in addition to the two labs, which can be very viable if there are some culture leaders in age II. So I think the benefits of the HG Moses combination often are not fully activated while Moses is still in play, but rather after he already left the game. That also means that the HG don´t necessarily have to be finished early. Ideally you find some other ways to upgrade your economy like going for Iron or Alchemy and finish HG at the end of age I, at the time, when the happy faces will be needed soon. You are right that the Acropolis also has some nice synergies with Moses. But if I would have to decide between those two wonders while having Moses, I would most of the times go for the Hanging Gardens.
A minor improvement would've been to delete a cannon and build a warrion in the last turn, it's +2 for variety, would not change strength and competition was in your hand... Otherwise a brilliant game!
Uiii ein Video

Nice to be going into scoring when your score it 1 more than you opponents combined score! X-D
Clean game, Bach & good tactic unstoppable
Dominating with only 5ca, impressive
Colossus Suez here we go! (haven't finished watching, but surely this will work out)

That Bach and his canons... I mean cannons

Yes, you are right, I should have built a warrior at the last turn, nice catch!
