@@SabatSch95 the fact that she is still here, alive, day by day living with what happened to her and sharing her story with us, the world. She has the strength to do that and she's so strong to be able to put herself out there because I know many of us wouldn't.

@@deargifty Rape isn't life-threatening in and of itself.
That doesn't mean what she had to go through didn't suck... doesn't mean it wouldn't have been incredibly hard to deal with psychologically (especially as a woman). But that also doesn't mean what she went through was comparable to someone who experienced attempted murder.
And why is it strong to "put yourself out there"? Again, I just don't see it. She isn't being judged, she isn't facing contempt for coming out. Everyone supports her. It's commendable and healthy, sure. Brave and strong? Absolutely not.
Putting your own life on the line to save others, THAT's brave. Enduring and accepting suffering in service of others, THAT's strong.
True bravery would be to retaliate and attack the rapist, to make your stand. Obviously, as a woman, that may not be particularly smart, so I don't blame her AT ALL. I'm just saying, this isn't an example of bravery.
What you're doing is like saying someone who fell off a building and had to have their leg amputated or something is "strong" and "brave" for going through such an experience. This woman didn't choose to be raped. I really think you need to be more precise with these types of compliments. It almost seems like you're glorifying it to some degree.

@@SabatSch95 he meant as in mentally strong. It doesn't have to be physically strong by doing an action or etc. She's strong to speak out knowing that there's many women out there went through the same thing but never voiced out because of how society will judge them. It is not easy, because people will say you're asking for it if you're just wearing pants and shirt. Yes, I agree to that person, she is mentally strong

To myself, I'm brave because last week i did something for the 1 st time , that i was very anxious about ,I hesitate again and again . But I took my imaginary balls, and did it. To me i'm brave . So to have the strenght To share a deep situation with others is really being strong.

I remember, when i was younger, i used to read statistics about the amount of women that were sexually assaulted and raped and I used to think "that would never happen to me, and if it did, i wouldn't be scared to tell someone or say no" until I was 13 and I was sexually assaulted by a family member as i slept. Multiple times. I would wake up as he was fondling me and I was too scared to move or tell anyone during the day. At the time i was too young to understand that it was sexual assault. I felt guilty that I couldn't tell anyone. I blamed myself because I was just too scared to move and tell him to stop. Now whenever someone touches me while I'm sleeping I jump up from my bed in fear. It's something that has stuck with me and wherever I hear other people's stories I get very emotional.

You start to worry about stuff you shouldn't worry about. I have to try so hard just to keep myself from freaking out in the middle of class. When I was 14, I went to El Salvador with my mother. There, I met my family that I never seen before.. but when my mother was gone, I was molested multiple times by my own cousin and called me many things. I didn't know who to tell, or what to say. I was scared to even tell my mom because she loved him so much and respected him.
Once we left, I had lost so much weight. I was 5'6 and weighed 110 lbs. I even began to self mutilate my entire body cause I hated what he had done to me. Once I actually told my mom and he confronted him, he denied it and said something was wrong with me. That I was crazy and making it up.
Since then, I had a hard time living. I was depressed, had many panic attacks, and was suicidal cause in my entire life of 20 years I've been molested by many people. I had such a hard time making friends and I couldn't form a relationship.
Thankfully, I'm alright now. I learned to move on, keep pushing forward no matter what happened. I'm now about to be married, I have one friend who is my everything, and working my way to getting my bio major.
Even now though, I hesitated to even speak about what had happened.

I had to do something like this in a behavioral psychology class. The instructor told us to write something that happened to us that kind of traumatized us, and we put it in something, and everyone read something different. Thats when i realized how fucked up the world was and gave me a new perspective to life. The person sitting next to me could have been the one who wrote they were abused, neglected, molested, raped, etc... i didnt know. And yeah, the stranger sitting next to you in class, in a bus stop, coffee shop, whatever, they may be able to write a novel about all the messed up things in their life. Thats why we should never judge anyone without knowing their full story...

We did something similar in my high school Psychology class. We had to write about our life story and what happened in our lives. The teacher only read them. But there was one lady who's story stood out. The teacher asked if she could share her story. She was one of the preppy girls. She had told us how her dad physically, verbally, mentally abused her, her older sister and her mom. She talked about how her sister was raped by her dad and how she felt jealous how her dad and her sister were so close. She talked about how the mom resented her sister that was being raped. My heart broke that day. It's been 8+ years sense I was in the class and I still remember her face and her story to this day.

When I was 14 I went to this high school party and I was raped. I woke up in the morning with my panties down and in some random room. I felt sore and I had bruises. I didn’t tell anyone in fear of being rejected. I was under the influence of alcohol. 3 years later I came foward to a teacher and I was interviewed. They told me it was my fault and that I shouldn’t have been drunk. I remember everything up until a point where I passed out. I remember saying no, despite being under the influence. I remember my dad telling me I was lying and that I was attention seeking. It broke me to pieces. Well I didn’t receive justice because of lack of evidence and I couldn’t provide a description of my rapist. Andrew Michaels Thank you for being honest about it. I really hope our future generations dont shun men for showing deep emotions or expressing them. But I hope that you do take a stand for yourself and start to freely do it for you because once you start doing, who know you could help other men like you who feel the same and that can spread and over time it could become a natural thing for men and not have to feel embarrassed about it. All I know is that when I have sons I want then to express themselves freely, no matter what.❤️:)

I was raped by my brother's best friend a week after my father passed away. He threatened me not to tell anyone. And me being the scared, little girl spoke no words about it. I recently told it to my "Friends" and what they said just broke me into pieces..."You might have shown some interest!", "Oh you b*tch! Why did you miss the chance?!", "I wouldve supported the guy." I know I know. It's disgusting.
Well it's been years since it happened, and I realized that I had to move on and that hanging on to the past is not gonna bring me any benefit or happiness. I was insecure, antisocial, depressive and many more negative stuff. But some people around me helped me to get out of that depressive hole. They helped me to find myself, face myself and love myself. I cant thank them more. Rain said to the principal that he didnt even know who i am and i was just putting him in danger. And the principal believed him. The principal suspended me immediately. I was in tears. @itstatilol4392 5 лет назад +2

I think that men and women definitely have to come together for those issues that affect women and those issues that affect men. That’s what feminism is, fighting for the equality of the sexes by rectifying challenges that affect all genders. That being said, since men hold a privileged place in society as compared to women, more progress needs to be made on women’s behalf to give them the same opportunities, representation, and compensation that men receive from society. I think that saying that men’s issues are “all their own” is to ignore the support women throughout society give to men’s professional and personal ventures, even to their own detriment. From my understanding testicular cancer is one of the cancers that causes the least fatalities, which could be the reason for the discrepancy between awareness about testicular cancer and say, breast cancer. That being said, I have seen many women and men together at the forefront of issues like awareness of sexual abuse toward men and involuntary male circumcision.

i was sexually coerced when i was 14 by my first boyfriend. i didn’t realize until like half a year later after we broke up that what he did, what he said was wrong. he always told me that it was my job because i was his gf & that i owed him bc he did something nice to me. i told one of our mutual friends what i realized and she didnt believe me because he wasnt “that type of guy”. another one of our mutual friends asked if it was okay to date him. i said hes a rapist but its ur choice and she asked “are you sure?” ive been very open to my experience & most people are understanding, but people like this are why so many people are afraid to come out about their assault. i already felt like it was way too long after to tell anyone in authority about it, but after 2(maybe more,, ive forced myself to forget these things) people have denied me, i felt it wasnt important anymore and that it didnt matter. i dealt with my own trauma for 2 years now and it hits me like a missile every time rape comes up.

I was a very clueless teen who saw the world through untainted eyes. When my classmate told me she was raped by her bf i didnt know how to react or what to say or do. It was the 1st time in my life i was exposed to something heavy like that. That was over a decade ago and obviously if she was to tell me that now, she would get a total different response and all my support.
Im not sure why she confided in me as we werent close. It was random during lunch break at school, so i imagine she was probably really desparate to reach out for help, and unfortunately i was the wrong person.
My point is if you try to reach out for help and not receive it from certain people, please dont let that stop you from continuing to seek the help and support that you need. Dont automatically assume that your issues are invalid and that people wont care. Sometimes, like in my case, they do care but just dont know what to do, or sometimes they may be struggling with their own issues and cant be strong enough to help you too.

Oh my goodness I can't believe I read this comment. Almost the exact same thing happened to me when I was as school also just over 10 years ago. As children and teenagers we haven't necessarily started to come across issues like this yet so we can handle them really badly when we're confided in. We can't go back and change it, but it's one of those awful, stark lessons which forms us into adults.
      *
I completely echo your sentiment about encouraging people to continue to seek help and speak up if it doesn't go the way that it should the first time, especially for teenagers because there will be people out there who understand and know what to say and do, even if your friends don't.Your friends likely still love you, they just don't know what to do.That was the case for me anyway at 15.

Somehow i made up my mind to tell it to another friend who's relative was an activist and involved with an ngo that helps women in the area to speak openly about such topics. As soon as i did my friend confessed that it was a false accusation she made because she just wanted to get back at the guy for breaking up with her. I cannot imagine what wouldve happened if we actually went through with the lie. Stay safe not everyone is honest.

I was sexually assaulted when I was 17. I told my dad a few days later and the first words out of his mouth were. What did you do to make him think you were up for it? You might have led him on without realising it. If that was the view from my own father why would anyone else care? So I swallowed it down and didn’t tell anyone else I saw the man who assaulted me several years later in a shopping centre and I had a panic attack
