In a 1978 interview Lee told the interviewer Barbaralee Diamon . . .something, I forgot her full name, that before the Womens Lib thing there were male and ( lots of ) female artists and it wasn't an issue àt all!! The moment when the abstract scene moved from Paris to New York it BECAME an ussue. Lee never bothered about this 'equality' hipe. If you're a good painter, male or female, you are a good painter.

Saying Jackson Pollock was the “Father of Abstract Expressionism” is like saying Elvis was the father of rock n roll. No, he was just the most famous practitioner of the genre. Hans Hofmann was the father of abstract expressionism.

She was one of the lynch pins of the NY School always a better painter than Pollack, she was to Pollack like Bonger to Van Gogh.
