My grandma didn't know anything about Yu-Gi-Oh, only that kid me liked to collect the cards. She liked to buy a pack or two and hide it under the pillow of my bed when I came to visit during holidays. Only once did she buy me a single card: United We Stand. I loved that card and it was a staple in my decks back in the day. I may have stopped playing after the 5Ds era, but I still own that card. One of my wierd mementos of my grandma.^^
I feel like Malevolent Nuzzler should have made this list over Horn of the Unicorn, but that's just me. The DEF boost of HotU was nice, but it was never really used in practice. MN, on the other hand, had an optional top-of-deck effect that was even better than Axe of Despair (pay 500 LP, which means no loss in card advantage) and it would still cause your Level 4 1800 ATK beat-sticks to hit that sweet 2500 ATK break-point.
Definitely agree, most defensive monsters don't need the application of the bonus DEF and anything that did have a notable effect in DEF mode wouldn't want to waste an equip card to keep it more safe, while we also had much better 0 or 1 tribute Sets anyway. And Nuzzler had become a staple for me back then as well, it's hard to top something with that much value for me.
I remember one of the GBA YGO games decided to give Mokuba a deck with Cyberstein, Megamorph and Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon. Just... just a bit of a nasty surprise if you were unlucky picking on the punching bag of the old games.
In Yu-Gi-Oh WCS 2005 Mokuba only ran a bunch of horrible vanillas and weak and niche spells and traps. But he also has Cyber Stein and BEUD in his deck so after beating him like 20 times in a row he surprised me out of nowhere
Don't forget that you can put Megamorph on your opponent's monster as well. So if your LP are higher you have an equip spell that can halve the attack of any one of your opponent's monsters, making them much easier to destroy. Especially in early Yugioh when having a high ATK was sometimes enough to make a card viable, such as Blue Eyes or Summoned Skull and such.
Actually in Duel Links there was a crazy tactic called "Massive Amazon" that used a combo of Lava Golem, Amazoness Swordswoman, and Megamorph. You could alternatively use Massivemorph if you're worried about the Lava Golem attacking back.
@@nicolaistuhlmuller8718 Yeah, Blue Eyes was low-key terrible, but because of the anime every kid and their grandma wanted to pretend to be Kaiba and had 3 in their deck. Theres another reason Premature Burial is limited in old formats, the monster special summoned is not destroyed if Prema is returned back to the hand or banished. So you could use cards that bounce spells/traps (e.g. Giant Trunade) to activate the card multiple times while also making the monster first special summoned "forget" that Prema was equiped to it. Let's not forget that Premature Burial and Big Bang Shot can be used alongside Giant Trunade. One of my favorite strategies in old Yu-Gi-Oh! games! Also, Megamorph can be used on your opponent's monsters, too! Can't imagine Raid Duel events in Duel Links without it either. Such an amazing card still.
I saw in a video not too long ago (I don't remember if it was Master Duel or Joey the passion) that if you mix Premature Burial with giant trunade it doesn't get "destroyed" (as the text in the card asks for), so the monster stays on the field and you can use it again.
I had used Metalsilver Armor for at least 2 years to prevent my opponent from targetting monsters anywhere except the equipped one I control. Very strong in mikanko deck, and interesting in classic with great dezart or similar effects
@@gonzalez8juan The list is all about equips that released prior to synchros. Nowadays you have access to several deck shuffles a turn a lot of the time, but back in GOAT format during earlier formats, there wasn't a super consistent way of getting Horn to stay off of the top of your deck, even if it was close to being a relevant card nowadays XD
I used the Megamorph strategy with blue eyes ultimate dragon in old-school Yu-Gi-Oh video games for a 9000 beat stick. Could OTK on my first turn sometime if I drew black hole/Reigeki or change of heart.
Megamorph is invaluable in racking up ridiculous damage in Duel Links raid duels. You can easily get 200k+ damage in one hit when you equip Megamorph, then use the EX Skill multipliers and special monster type multiplier (based on the raid boss you're fighting.) Just make sure to equip Megamorph first.
Interesting fact snatch Steal would also synergize with bad reaction because you can also punish your opponent for healing due to the effects of snatch Steal which would normally give you a thousand life points because you lost a monster through this way but because of bad reaction now you would be burned for a thousand damage as well as having your monster being stolen every turn that the card is equipped to the monster
3:34 and 10:10 So these weapons belong to the Guardians, who haven’t had much love in a while… Idea to take these 2 and use them as a general blueprint for a suite of retrains for each Guardian and their weapon: _Arms of The Guardians - Rod of Kay'est_ Equip Spell (This card's name is always treated as “Rod of Silence - Kay'est”.) _The equipped monster gains 500 ATK/DEF. 5. I remember there was a monster that can gain ATK equal to the of stars each monsters, imagine how much more it will get if united we stand were to equipped it.

Big bang shot is incredible, technically the opponent takes that piercing damage, same as fairy meteor. Equip to opponent, put some 0 def monsters. And wait to see their confused face
Dude! United We Stand actually SAVED me in a battle against Kaiba in Yugioh World Wide Edition 😂😂😂. The dude had pretty much cornered me, destroyed everything I had, and all I had in my hand were Kuriboh and Multiply, and two other useless cards. I drew United, and hatched an idea. I used Kuriboh and the Multiply card, created a whole wall. Kaiba just destroyed one of them, because for some reason he didn’t bother to summon another beater, and by pure luck I drew a Monster Reborn, brought back my Dunames Dark Witch and used my United We Stand, flipped the other Kuriboh tokens, and processed to mop the floor with Kaiba after 😂😂😂. It’s not an ideal situation, but this is THE fondest memory I have of United We Stand 😂😂😂. Since then, I learned to build my decks a little better, because holy crap do I recall struggling with most of these.
This list is pretty Bunk. Megamorph saw far more consistent success than Axe of Despair, Mage Power or United We Stand (the latter two falling off after Ancient Sanctuary and Axe of Despair fell off after United and Mage Power got released). Megamorph saw competitive Success in at least three different decks prior to the Synchro era. Butterfly Dagger Elma *never* saw any competitive play it was banned for it's potential loops, but it was never consistent in those loops it is way too high on the list.
Butterfly Dagger Elma could easily be unbanned if its effect was just changed to once per turn. That would negate all its infinite loop abuse but would still be a reasonable good card for classic Yui-Gi-Oh since the chances are it's not going to be destroyed more than once per turn in normal play.
Funny fact about Big Bang Shot: It doesn't target and it doesn't destroy, and on top of that, it has no protection itself. Back in the day if your opponent had something really nasty on board you could actually remove it with Big Bang Shot and an MST... It's still an usable way to remove problem monsters because it neither targets nor destroys. Just way too slow and requiring too much investment.
You forgot about the only other equip spell that is banned in the modern TCG: Smoke Grenade of the Thief. Took ages to become broken but infernobles made it broken because it has a confiscation effect but the way it was used was so janky UNTIL infernobles.
I cannot believe he did not mention the Omega turbo strategy with vylons with Rod of Silence. :) i know that combo was a bit hard to pull off but… i mena it had some merits right?
Wait! The double edge sword isn't fully true and you skipped that option. You could also put Megamorph on your opponents' monster if you were ahead and half the attack of something. Meaning the card does never become dead in your hand, if you are ahead, you can be weak anything powerful the enemy brings out, if you are behind double your beat sticks. -and that is why it should be, at least in spot 6 above, Axe of despair. Also because the gain even on a 1800 monster is bigger than Axe.
-Equip BBS or Fairy Meteor crush on your opponent's monster. -trick them into attacking your defense postion monster -inflict the piercing damage back at them -get ready to get beaten up.

I love how 5 of these cards were staples in my Deck: Megamorph, United We Stand, Mage Power, Premature Burial, and Axe of Despair. Great times!
I refer to Axe of Despair as "IBM": Instant Boss Monster. 👍
Big Bang Shot worked well with Shiranui, since a lot of their monsters effects proxied from being banished
So Big Bang shot is basically the old format's equivalent of running MST to out Mystic Mine? Some things truly never change
I loved using Ojama Tryo
There were negates for Snatch Steal, quite a lot actually! MST, Dust Tornado, Magic Jammer, and all sorts of other cards.
From your list, Premature Burial and Megamorph are the two most used cards by me.
I saw in a video not too long ago (I don't remember if it was Master Duel or Joey the passion) that if you mix Premature Burial with giant trunade it doesn't get "destroyed" (as the text in the card asks for), so the monster stays on the field and you can use it again.
The thing with Celestial Sword is that it cannot combo with Eatos' effect as the Equip Spell is a 'when' effect, and as such misses timing.
I had used Metalsilver Armor for at least 2 years to prevent my opponent from targetting monsters anywhere except the equipped one I control. Very strong in mikanko deck, and interesting in classic with great dezart or similar effects
1:53 Howmever
....GUARDIAN GLAMBERG?
I should've ran a Maha Vailo and Benkei deck back then. I loved equip cards back then but wasnt too keen on deck building like i am now.
Interesting how Smoke Grenade wasn't played very much back then^^
For a moment I was thiinking that number 9 would be that card that give the monster a boost of attack+defense
I think horn of the unicorn is pretty bad, because it MUST be returned to the top of the deck when it’s destroyed.
This exactly
Too many cards interact with the deck for it to be a downside
@@gonzalez8juan The list is all about equips that released prior to synchros. Nowadays you have access to several deck shuffles a turn a lot of the time, but back in GOAT format during earlier formats, there wasn't a super consistent way of getting Horn to stay off of the top of your deck, even if it was close to being a relevant card nowadays XD
In Duel Link with raid event,Megamorph and United We Stand is MVP
Man i remember snatch steal was the bane of my existence when i was playing the GX gba Game.
Back then, I used to use this card with in my Bad Reaction To Simochi deck, which understandably pissed everyone off.
3:34 and 10:10 So these weapons belong to the Guardians, who haven’t had much love in a while…
Idea to take these 2 and use them as a general blueprint for a suite of retrains for each Guardian and their weapon:
_Arms of The Guardians - Rod of Kay'est_
Equip Spell
(This card's name is always treated as “Rod of Silence - Kay'est”.)
_The equipped monster gains 500 ATK/DEF. Negate other Spell effects that target the equipped monster, and if you do, destroy that Spell. Once per turn, you can shuffle the equipped Monster into your deck, and if you do: Special Summon 1 “Kay'est” monster from your hand, deck or GY, and if you do that, equip this card to it._
_Guardian of the Waters - Kay'est_ (WATER)
Level 4
Sea Serpent/Effect
_While in your hand, face-up on the field or in the GY, this card’s name is also treated as “Guardian Kay'est”. This card is unaffected by Spell effects and cannot be targeted for attacks, but does not prevent your opponent from attacking you directly. While this card is Face-Up on the field, the field is treated as “Umi”. If this card leaves the field: Special Summon 1 “Guardian Kay'est” from your Hand, Deck or GY, ignoring it’s Summoning Conditions, and if you do, equip 1 “Rod of Silence - Kay'est” to it from your hand, deck or GY._
ATK/1000 DEF/1800
_Arms of The Guardians - Dagger of Elma_
Equip Spell
(This card's name is always treated as “Butterfly Dagger - Elma”.)
_The equipped monster gains 300 ATK/DEF. When this card is sent to the Graveyard or Banished while equipped: You can pay 600 LP, and if you do, return this card to the hand. Once per turn, you can shuffle the equipped Monster into your deck, and if you do: Special Summon 1 “Elma” monster from your hand, deck or GY, and if you do that, equip this card to it._
_Guardian of the Winds - Elma_ (WIND)
Level 3
Fairy/Effect
_While this card is in your hand, Face-Up on the field or in your GY, its name is also treated as “Guardian Elma”. If this card is Summoned, or if it destroys a monster by battle: You can Equip 1 appropriate Equip Spell from your hand, deck or GY to this card. If this card leaves the field: Special Summon 1 “Guardian Elma” from your Hand, Deck or GY, ignoring it’s Summoning Conditions, and if you do, equip 1 “Butterfly Dagger -Elma” to it from your hand, deck or GY._
5. I remember there was a monster that can gain ATK equal to the of stars each monsters, imagine how much more it will get if united we stand were to equipped it.
I don't even play Yu-Gi-Oh, but I love these videos.
Caught a small error at 9:43. Meant to say Mage Power, but said United We Stand instead.
10:05 I wasn’t surprised to see this equip card make the top 3, anybody else
Top 10 Best Structure Decks
megamorph can be used on opponent monsters too to halve their attack
I would use BBS with Evocator chevalier to double pop things all the time. Give BBS to opponent's monster, use evocator to pop a card by sending BBS to the grave banish the monster equipped to it. Would be such a better combo if Evocator wasn't a gemini
Big bang shot is incredible, technically the opponent takes that piercing damage, same as fairy meteor.
Equip to opponent, put some 0 def monsters. And wait to see their confused face
Dinomorphia should definitely be useful with megamorph easily fits that condition xd
I love united we stand on my fur hire deck
Butterfly Dagger Elma could easily be unbanned if its effect was just changed to once per turn. That would negate all its infinite loop abuse but would still be a reasonable good card for classic Yui-Gi-Oh since the chances are it's not going to be destroyed more than once per turn in normal play.
I put megamorph in my dinomorphia deck as a funny/spicy tech card. It's always funny attacking for game with a 6k+ plus with kenta
Funny fact about Big Bang Shot:
It doesn't target and it doesn't destroy, and on top of that, it has no protection itself. Back in the day if your opponent had something really nasty on board you could actually remove it with Big Bang Shot and an MST... It's still an usable way to remove problem monsters because it neither targets nor destroys. Just way too slow and requiring too much investment.
Do a top 10 of your top 10 videos
Can you do best decks of each type and/ or attributes?
You forgot about the only other equip spell that is banned in the modern TCG: Smoke Grenade of the Thief. Took ages to become broken but infernobles made it broken because it has a confiscation effect but the way it was used was so janky UNTIL infernobles.
Horn of the Unicorn's effect to return to the top of the deck is mandatory, not optional. So you CAN NOT choose.
Me when thinking about #10
Nows your chance to be [big] bang Shot be [big] be [b-b-ang] shot!
I cannot believe he did not mention the Omega turbo strategy with vylons with Rod of Silence. :) i know that combo was a bit hard to pull off but… i mena it had some merits right?
Horn of a unicorn i would say is worse, its a double edge sword being forced to return to the deck.
Top 10 niche quick-play spells (after synchro era)
Well Royal Magical Library doesn't work exactly like that.... But we got the idea
I think we all agree that no card can beat Feral imp and Horn of the Unicorn
-Equip BBS or Fairy Meteor crush on your opponent's monster.
-trick them into attacking your defense postion monster
-inflict the piercing damage back at them
-get ready to get beaten up.
Butterfly dagger. Me and my friends never played with a banned list. So as soon as gearfried came out. Game over
Wow this guardian deck you speak of must be very strong to have this many top 10s huh???
you made a mistake:
Royal Magical Library needs to you cast 3 spells before drawing 1 card.
Ironically, for the Elma combo, it doesn't matter ^^
Top 10 Worst classic cards 7: Ancient Sanctuary, or Top 10 Worst Warrior type monsters
For the non top 10 list: The Unknown side of Yu-Gi-Oh: Beasts of the Colliseum featuring Gladiator Beasts
Slow pace was the real intended pace of the game. I really miss those times.
Yes
You know if u equip BBS to ur opponent's monster and also massivemorph, if ur oppoen isn't smart and decides to attack with that monster to ur monster the massive dmg will be dealt to him/her
Malevolent Nuzzler should have taken Horn's place. It's not mandatory and you pay LP instead of going minus.
Not me equipping most of these to Maha Vailo to make the ultimate beatstick

My Axe of Despair doesn’t have the creepy face. It looks cool tho.
