It wasn’t subtle. Thamel declining to comment on the reference doesn’t necessarily mean that it went over his head. Dude is 45 years old. Highly doubt that he missed any part of that reference.

SMU’s deep pocketed boosters are making a stunningly audacious gamble on a league that might not exists as a major conference in the next 10-15 years. It would prove to be a wise investment only if the ACC is more than a picked-over carcass at the time of the next ACC media rights negotiation.

I think it’s a win-win for SMU because even if the ACC collapses, if they prove that they can compete in a power conference, then they will set themselves up to be invited to another power conference.

This move allows them the opportunity to make themselves relevant again with the boost of being a “p4” school during recruiting. My guess is they hope they can become relevant enough to make the next wave of big12 expansion after the ACC collapse

not a bad return from the only team to ever get the death penalty......

@@aaronn3487 SMU's dream would be to be part of the Big 12(or whatever number it is by the time they'd join) to play schools in Texas like Houston, Baylor Texas Tech, and of course, TCU, and the only way that's happening is if they're already in a Power Conference. SMU being in the ACC makes them one of the better picks for the Big 12 should they expand again

Pure desperation by ACC, FSU, Clemson, MiamI, UNC, etc...all are still looking for an exit if they can find one. NCST flipped b/c they know they have no place to go if the conference implodes, they surely made some calls & nobody was interested.

Remember that ESPN needs to have a presence on the west coast since Big Ten and Fox took four PAC 12 schools

Why are SEC fans such toxic people?
What makes you think the SEC is the best conference in the USA?
ACC in basketball is a thousand times better than the SEC where only Kentucky is a relevant team.
Duke and UNC have more fans around the country than the entire SEC combined.
      Stop writing nonsense.

Just a question but the 3 teams leaving the pac-12 will still play their home games at the same place right ? Just asking to see if they are moving or not

      Yup

Low game attendance and expanded television and streaming requirements may lead to pod or hub system. A mid season bowl deal in neutral location within conferences.

  • @2040wagon
    @2040wagon 11 месяцев назад

I anticipate a mid season bowl coming to off set weakly attended mid week games. USC plays Illinois at Soldier Field on a Tuesday or Wednesday to accommodate television and streaming since the time difference will not work for PCT. A 6 PM CT start is 4 PM PT.
USC may have to play Illinois in Las Vegas the next year mid year. UCLA vs anybody during the week? Without a star quarterback? Against Masked Singer? Tough proposition....

    Goodness!
Big 12 adds Cincy and UCF
    not bad, not bad
    ACC adds PAC 12 scraps
    ......

Stupid move trying to save Stanford and Cal two schools that bring nothing to the table. I hope this screws all the teams in the ACC now.
