It’s funny that you ask this because my laptop just died 😂 But for example the laptop pictured in and shown in this video is a 2014 Sony VAIO, it has a old 3rd gen i7 with intel graphics and a GeForce gt640m for encoding and live streaming in 30 fps @1080 p it will do just fine! As long as you have it properly configured in OBS and your not going to use it for any other reasons besides live streaming. But if you want something reliable to todays specs I’d suggest looking at what OBS recommends CPU: Intel i7 8700K, AMD Ryzen 1600X RAM: 8 GB OS: Windows 10 (64 bit) VIDEO CARD: GeForce 10 Series, Radeon 5000 Series, Intel Xe
I stream with an older I-5 10th gen (no dedicated gpu/ 128GB SSD) at 1080 60fps with a Camlink4k (even streamed at 4k/30fps). As long I have a strong upload speed (18-20) all is fine. I have also found that Streamlabs Desktop (formerly Streamlabs OBS) is a free and open-source streaming software that is based on a fork of OBS and, has a much better user interface. Streamlabs distributes their user's content over platforms such as Twitch, RUclips Live, and Facebook Live. You just need to be sure and select "performance mode" when using Streamlabs (much less confusing than OBS). Even my wimpy laptop get a beautiful stream out of my G7.

What about the focus as you connect the HDMI output to a device? My G70 won't focus at all while connected, unless i just start filming with the camera itself. (without getting a signal, because it will get blocked) Is there a solution for this?
Hi Seez! Can I use my Lumix G7 to hold zoom meetings? I'm curious if the higher quality kit lens will be a better resolution when I record my online yoga livestream classes. I have an older mid 2015 Macbook pro and the camera on there is really fuzzy.
It’s necessary if you’re looking to live stream for longer than the battery life of your G85. There is a USB port on the G85. You may be able to use that to keep the camera on through usb power !
@@SeezSantos Thank you. One small doubt is Can i connect the Capture card to the pc and then insert a HDMI to micro HDMI cable to my camera ? Instead of using an adapter like you did in this video . Does that work ?
I’m using the hdmi adapter because of the length I needed but if you have a micro hdmi to hdmi cable it will work the same way. As long as it’s a good quality cable.
Im new to all of this. Trying to use the free version of Streamyard but it's not able to detect my camera. Any reason why? Do I need to do something with OBS first?
This is a great video for anyone setting up their camera for a live stream! Nice work. I have some technical questions about my setup. I used a brand new Micro HDMI adapter (that is directly plugged into the camera) to a brand new HDMI cable that runs from the adapter to Elgato Cam Link. I don't have an AC adapter yet, either, just a standard battery. When I have the power ON, in Movie Mode, the display screen intermittently flickers on and off. My Elgato Cam Link is getting 'No Signal' from the camera. Do you think (A) the Micro HDMI adapter is incompatible / defective; or (B) am I not getting a signal because my battery is weak and I don't have it plugged into power with an AC adapter?
@@SeezSantos Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! This is driving me insane. The Micro HDMI adapter is made by 'Watch Onn' and is probably garbage. I'm using Streamlabs, but regardless, my Elgato Camera Hub says it isn't even receiving a signal from my camera through the Cam Link. I can't feed anything to Streamlabs if I can't even get anything to show up on Elgato Camera Hub. I know my Cam Link works perfectly because I hooked a Canon Rebel T7 up to it earlier this week with no issues, but I had a direct Mini HDMI cable (no adapter) and a dummy battery. I feel like one of these two pieces of hardware are my issue.. thoughts?
No problem! It honestly sounds like one of the cables you have is not compatible-either the adapter or the HDMI cable. I'd manually change the “TV” settings in the g7 to eliminate the possibility of it being a camera issue. If that doesn't work, try getting another adapter! I use one made by “INSIGNIA.” I picked mine up from a local Best Buy.
i got the Cam Link 4K but the camera freezes every few minutes and i have to restart it every time. like on Obs i have to click on the "eye" icon to turn it off then turn it back on in order for the camera to start working again. every few minutes
On the Panasonic G7 could we leave the "TV connection" setting at "AUTO" and still stream 1080 (60fps or 30fps)? Do we have to change the TV connection setting to 1080? I frequently switch my camera setting depending on the type of activity that I'm streaming (even do 4k on occasion) . Thank you for such a clear explanation.
I’ve had issues at least with OBS on my PC’s where the camera isn’t recognized at least with my Camlink4k. But you can always try and see if it works for you!
hey, i hope you can answer me about this, how long can i have the camera lumix g7? I'm using the fake battery to connect my camera to a power bank, but is it good to have it turned it on longer than 3-5 hours?
I've actually put this to the test, had mine on for 6 hours recording using OBS and there were no overheating issues at all. The only time I've ever had my camera shut off during a recording was taking it into a cold indoor environment to a humid outdoor environment. the camera has a sensor that will protect the camera from operating in that condition apparently.

Is it possibile to reproduce a recorded video inside the camera pushing the play button and to see it on a monitor Just attaching the camera with an hdmi cable? Thanks
Hi Seez, thanks for the video. I have the G7 and just purchased Elgato 4k link, and downloaded their hub software and for some reason I am not getting video. Any ideas?
I have tried using the cam link on a Mac Pro running an older version of macOS. If I remember correctly you have to make sure to enable access to your camera in the security setting on Mac OS. And also configure the video settings in OBS. If I can get access to a Mac I might just make a video on doing this.
The G7 is definitely compatible with the Cam Link 4k. It’s listed as the “Lumix DMC-G7” if you check the pinned comment I have all the sources mentioning the information for it. As for the software OBS can be a bit tricky on Mac to run.l but it’s possibly. Also Mac your your using a USB 3.1 port and not a slower usb 2.0 port.
Thanks so much for this, super helpful. Question if you have a sec as I've exhausted all resources... I'm getting a black screen when I connect my camera to anything - zoom, riverside fm, even just to the tv. I've changed out hdmi cables and even got a mini hdmi to male hdmi cable to skip the adapter (per panasonic's guide). The camlink does register on all apps/computer, but not registering my camera. My guess is I have some setting on my camera in the way, though i followed your instructions for settings. Would it matter what mode the camera's in? ? Thanks so much, am desperate to solve!

Great question! I shoot all my content in Movie mode! Also, I was at iso 400 at f1.8. And a shutter speed of 1/60 since I was recording at 30fps. Man, idk if I’m doing something wrong but do you absolutely need the capture card? I connect my g7 to my MacBook Pro using the hdmi port and it doesn’t pop up when I go to “video capture device” in sources
Are you connecting your G7 to your mac book using the HDMI port on your mac? From my understanding, there is no mac book pro that has an internal capture device. The HDMI port on most if not all laptops are for external monitors. So yes you will indeed need a capture card.
I tried connecting my G7 using the cam link for Zoom and it's not getting any signal. I changed the setting of the camera per your video but I still have the same results. I tried it on my Mac and Windows. On the Mac it gets the message that there is no signal with the Elgato logo. On Windows, it's similar but with a fuzzy image. I tried to install OBS for the Mac and not getting anywhere on it. I just need to get it to work on Zoom. What am I missing here? I appreciate any suggestions.
I have a lumix G7 I also got a cheap Capture card and I got the dummy battery would that work also if you ever in Garden Grove California maybe we can do a video together? If your recording to the camera itself the hdmi output will showcase a black screen. So if you want to use the hdmi out for streaming you need to record externally using OBS.

But for example the laptop pictured in and shown in this video is a 2014 Sony VAIO, it has a old 3rd gen i7 with intel graphics and a GeForce gt640m for encoding and live streaming in 30 fps @1080 p it will do just fine! As long as you have it properly configured in OBS and your not going to use it for any other reasons besides live streaming.
But if you want something reliable to todays specs I’d suggest looking at what OBS recommends
CPU: Intel i7 8700K, AMD Ryzen 1600X
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Windows 10 (64 bit)
VIDEO CARD: GeForce 10 Series, Radeon 5000 Series, Intel Xe
@@SeezSantos 😅 that's unfortunate . I am planning on buying i5-12th gen with integrated graphics card . hope this will be enough .
What about Lens? Do You recommend any for live streams?
I've been streaming for a while but now my camera looks better! Thanks!
Love to see it!
Great stuff mate. Very educational. Much appreciated [from Australia].
Let me know if there is anything else you’d love to learn about !
@@SeezSantos Can I still get professional looking video from the G7 [I have 3 of them] for Live-streaming, without the Lenses that you recommend? In Australia it will cost me around $1,000 to get the 2 lenses you recommended. Thanks
What lenses do you currently have ?
@@SeezSantos Hi mate. Here are the lenses I have to use ATM:
1. LUMIX Panasonic 42.5mm | F1.7 ASPH
2. NEEWER 25mm | F/1.8 APS-C
3. LUMIX Panasonic 14-42mm | F.3.5-5.6 ASPH
4. OLYMPUS M.Zuiko |Digital ED 40-150mm | F4.0-5.6 R
CAMERA KIT INCLUDED:
Lumix G Vario 14-42mm
Lumix 45-150mm
Thank you 😄
What about the focus as you connect the HDMI output to a device? My G70 won't focus at all while connected, unless i just start filming with the camera itself. (without getting a signal, because it will get blocked) Is there a solution for this?
Hi Seez! Can I use my Lumix G7 to hold zoom meetings? I'm curious if the higher quality kit lens will be a better resolution when I record my online yoga livestream classes. I have an older mid 2015 Macbook pro and the camera on there is really fuzzy.
You can! You need the gear I mentioned. You;; have to configure your browser to give access to the CamLink 4K as a webcam.
@@SeezSantos Okay thanks I'll give it a go!
Nice Presentation. Is dummy battery necessary ? I am using Lumix G85 .
@@SeezSantos Thank you for the clarification Appreciate it brother.
Im new to all of this. Trying to use the free version of Streamyard but it's not able to detect my camera. Any reason why? Do I need to do something with OBS first?
If I wanted to use it as a zoom camera, would I still need OBS?
Can this be done with ps5
I dj u want to mix live will this work!
Yes !
@@SeezSantos thank u boss will try yeyeyeye
Great job!
Aww thank you!
What brand is your micro to full size HDMI adapter?
Also have you tried to manually set the output resolution to match the settings on OBS
You ever fix this? Tried several different cables and got nothing
i got the Cam Link 4K but the camera freezes every few minutes and i have to restart it every time. like on Obs i have to click on the "eye" icon to turn it off then turn it back on in order for the camera to start working again. every few minutes
dumb question- i know its not actually storing anything on the camera, but should you still have a sim card in it?
On the Panasonic G7 could we leave the "TV connection" setting at "AUTO" and still stream 1080 (60fps or 30fps)? Do we have to change the TV connection setting to 1080? I frequently switch my camera setting depending on the type of activity that I'm streaming (even do 4k on occasion) . Thank you for such a clear explanation.
I’ve had issues at least with OBS on my PC’s where the camera isn’t recognized at least with my Camlink4k. But you can always try and see if it works for you!
You may also have a message display on the camera “af performance may be temporary I’ll degraded 4K to 1080p”
hey, i hope you can answer me about this, how long can i have the camera lumix g7? I'm using the fake battery to connect my camera to a power bank, but is it good to have it turned it on longer than 3-5 hours?
I've actually put this to the test, had mine on for 6 hours recording using OBS and there were no overheating issues at all. The only time I've ever had my camera shut off during a recording was taking it into a cold indoor environment to a humid outdoor environment. the camera has a sensor that will protect the camera from operating in that condition apparently.
I hope I was able to answer your question!
hay man ik this is an older video but by chance you see this, is it possible to use the Lumix Gx7 as a webcam I happened to get it at a garage sale and would like to set up live hand cam streaming stuff
@@trollsmonster9077 hi! As far as i know the gx7 has no live hdmi output, its playback only.
Which means you won’t be able to use it as a webcam
@@SeezSantos thank you this solves alot of things lol been trying to figure this out for the last day and ran into ur video, ill keep a good look out for another mirrorless camera that has that option now that I know about it and stick to useing my phone for now (b'v')b
Hey, i loved your video! I was just looking for info to start live streaming for fun, but I cannot really install the LUMIX Tether for streaming (Beta) becuase the option of g7 is not compatible, but for you it is, how do I make it happend? Like how did you do it?
Thank you for watching! The lumix tether app is not compatible with the G7. The only way to live stream with it is by using what I mentioned in this video.
would I need the camlink if my computer has an HDMI port?
Unless you have one of those new laptops or PC's that has an HDMI capture card that looks like a regular HDMI port then yes you will.
Most of the time the HDMI port on your laptop and PC are for output only.
Hey - QUESTION PLEASS - i’m using a Lumix G7 with HDHI capture card. I set up everything right but when i hit record the camera goes black and display “Video Now Recording” how can i fix that please?
Is it possibile to reproduce a recorded video inside the camera pushing the play button and to see it on a monitor Just attaching the camera with an hdmi cable? Thanks
Yes, if you have any photos or videos on your camera and select the PLAY button they will appear on your monitor or Tv when connected via HDMI.
Quick question. When using the camera, the image is reversed on my computer screen. How do I fix that?
Flip your video oby right clicking on the canvas and selecting “flip horizontally”
Nice video 👍🏻
thanks!
Hi Seez, thanks for the video. I have the G7 and just purchased Elgato 4k link, and downloaded their hub software and for some reason I am not getting video. Any ideas?
Having trouble finding g7 software like when I go to link in bio i dont see g7 as compatible camera
Are you trying to see if the G7 is compatible with OBS or the Camlink?
Just tested the newest version of OBS with the Camlink on my G7 and it worked great!
Ill try again today running it threw obs also im trying to do this on a mac book air 2017
Hi! Thank you for your question!
First off MAC or PC?
@@SeezSantos amazing! Mac
How do you disable the audio? The hdmi will capture the audio from camera
You have to do that in OBS

What I struggle with on the G7 are the autofocus settings. I still dont understand them all, if you have some videos covering them, that'd be awesome
@@DamienMarecaux thank you for this I’ll start creating content around this subject. There are a few different autofocos setting based on the type of lenses your using like in my case the sigma lens with the adapter. I do have a LUMIX lens I can show as this with to help you and anyone else out!
The HDMI Mode (Play) setting on my G7 is grayed out??
helo bro , im from india i broght this camera 3 months bac now i byed a hdmi a to hdmi d cable from amazon basics brand , is it mandatory to connect all this addons
Yes! If you need to do any screen recording or in this case live streaming.
TQ broh
The thing I wanted to know that you did not cover was which mode are you in?
are you in the movie mode? or just manual?
It would be good to get an idea of where you are in iso and aperture and what shooting mode
also maybe the best focus settings as I think thats one of the biggest flaws of this camera is keeping decent focus
Great question! I shoot all my content in Movie mode! Also, I was at iso 400 at f1.8. And a shutter speed of 1/60 since I was recording at 30fps. Since this camera does not have the best autofocus system, I only use manual focus. I have a couple videos on my channel that cover the focusing and frame rates specifically with this camera.
Please let me know if you have any other questions!
@@SeezSantosthanks. Ill check it out. Sounds good. Thats super wide, impressed you nailed the focus in manual for a talking head. Im near the same.
I have your exact set up and this isn't working for me. The camera hub continues to say initializing video engine or the camera's viewport just flickers on and off. I have it plugged usb 3.0

💡Are you live streaming using a Panasonic camera?
No matter what I do, I can't get my Panasonic g7 to connect and show live feed. I downloaded the app and all I get it the "Lumix webcam software beta", as a picture, but no video feed. What do I do?
Hi ! I got the same camera, the same hardwares and softwares but it doesn't work for me !!! My camera screen is glitching when I plug the cables (black screen/grey screen/pov camera) Help !!!!
@@SeezSantos Yeah that's what I'm doing. I didn't know that so thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to respond

Yes! The only reason to have an SD card in is to record.

@@mnector6724 Ok then idk sorry. Your camera has completely different quality options than mine
did you fix this? need some help as well
Will the G7 go to sleep during stream because record is not pressed?
If your recording to the camera itself the hdmi output will showcase a black screen. So if you want to use the hdmi out for streaming you need to record externally using OBS.
The G85/95/100 will allow you to record internally but may have limitations on time while outputting via HDMI at the same time.
There is 30min limit on camera how to overcome the problem???
