Off-Grid with the French Army F2 Tent - Budget Camping Adventure

- I took the French Army F2 onto the Moors in Winter but will I be warm enough in this very cheap budget tent?
The forecast was -1 but you can bet it went down colder than that on this barren wasteland. Gone are the trees long ago and even the homesteads couldn't exist no more but here we are, about to camp out in this very thin tent. I have every confidence it is waterproof but will I be warm enough is the question. I do have my trusty Alpkit 600 with me so I'm I was going to be fine but you never know!

I used to love the mess tins when i was in the army back in the late 80s, i even used to keep my wash stuff in them and in my webbing.

My Flextail pump kept switching on in my electrics bag. Not great given the heat those LEDs put out and a flat battery to boot!
I 3D printed a cover for it. The bag it comes with keeps it in place.

Used to stop there for a tin of soup with my dad when I was a lad, maybe 5 years old. We'd sit under the tree for shelter n heat up the soup on an old stove. Good days.
I've made a bacon butty a few times with my tribe. Good little spot on a slightly quieter track than the main one. Gotta love the West Pennine Moors. Never tire of the views and the wind up there. Funny that I spotted you lads walking back to your cars in the morning, only 100m away with Billy in the woods

I bet you have been everywhere on there pal. I'll have to do more exploration of them, see what nooks and crannies I can find.
I'd always seen it when walking and kept saying I should head that way. A cracking spot and as I say fab memories for you.

That's my kind of campsite. Superb video.
That's a heck of a lot of stone for what at first appeared to be a small building. I'd put a tentative date at around the mid 19th century the interior cement render would indicate that, plus the age of the trees which I'd put at no more than 200 years given where they are. As for what the buildings were used for is anyone's guess (or Dr Google) they could be farm buildings or peat cutting.
I very much doubt even in the heathen north you plant your bodies in the rubble of demolished buildings 🤣😂If the 'gravestones' were down here I'd say they were window sills, flooring or door thresholds (although a bit thin) that someone in the past has stood up.

It is not discoloring, it’s patina! Honestly tho my camping gear is used with such a low frequency that I believe it will get out dated before it gets worn out. My cheap 25 quid down jacket has seen more wear time than my 600 quid bag ever will and it’s just fine…
Haha yeah! Wow, I'd be using that bag if I had it dude haha. I must admit I wear my old Rab jacket more than my new but I think it's because I don't want to wreck my new ones lol. Thanks pal 👍

I know ot doesn't solve the problem but check if Alpkit offer a cleaning service for your bag. I know Rab will was a down bag for about 30 quid.

Great sleek edit Ant, and the moorland was so still and melencoly. In hill country graves were sometimes walled in by small enclosures, your example well, I wonder if the upright stones were old larder benches utilised as markers?

Original canvas tent with fly is warm enough.
Morning Pat, yeah I do like the look of them and they are considerably warmer but like all canvas tents its the weight. I don't mine if its a local camp and you aren't wandering up hills or mountains but for camps like this, this is the perfect weight. Cheers, Ant 👍

Get a silk sleeping bag liner Ant. They have a hood on them, weigh next to nothing, are comfortable and can be chucked in the wash after each camp. They add a couple of degrees warmth to your bag too👍

Hi Brad, I got XL mate but I reckon I could have got away with large. They are OK though as the don't restrict you when you have your main pants on but they do need hitching up every now and then. Cheers for watching, Ant 👍

Absolutely beautiful area Ant! What a great spot to camp in. About that sweat, I reckon you have too much clothes on if your head gets sweaty. Or maybe you should use some baby powder 😂
Seriously you could use a pillow case on the top of your sleeping bag which is a lot easier to clean.

That French Army F 2 reminded me of the tents we used to buy and use back in the day ..... 30 Bob waxed canvas wooden pole tents and a candle to keep it water proof .
A pillow case or extra bag to cover your sleeping bag head space may slow the discolouration down .
That toaster I'm still not sure like I said in the last video is it worth the carry ? .

Really good spot that. I think I've seen it too on me travels but never walked near it or just walked past it on the way to another spot. Will keep my eye out next time I'm up there. I've got the same toaster and it's great. I use it at festivals with my trangia mostly. I get sweaty head too. I just wash my pillow each time but I sleep with a wooly hat on so that helps. I'm never fully inside a sleeping bag so hoods fine

Nice quiet camp with good food. Nice little spot that Ant. Try a sleeping bag liner so you can pull the hood section up around your head/shoulders and protect the bag material. Bung it in the wash when you get home! Nice one Ant

Beautiful moorland spot Ant. I reckon those buildings on your way in are farm houses of the workers not necessarily the farm owner. It looked a bit like the ruins of Malkin Towers the home of Demdyke the Pendle Witch and her family. 1612 era.

They were victims of their time. A few spells and a curse or two were normal for the day.
