    Proper job mate, I'm going to use a welders blanket for my jack, going to cut a dinner plate size circle and stitch it where needed then cut the tent portion away then cut an x in the middle for stove pipe and iv also got one of those stove pipe alloy tiles with the rubber cone from my local bilders merchants £12 to put over it if its a monsoon. . Nice tent mate .

      Thanks mate for your intel. I was looking into a welders blacket too, good for upto 100 degrees C. I will fabricate my own verson and see where thaat takes us, (practice tent first) Ha! Hope you enjoy your winter tenting mate. All the best...Bex

    good thing I saw this review, I won't camp in anything less than a 2 skin tent, last 2 I had got rained through.

      I converted this tent into a hot tent with wood burning stove, for winter as it is single skin. Defo a car camping tent. I use the Vango Orion for twin skin tent.

    Happy B-day Bex. I've been looking at similar tipi styles. Great value. I was looking at mil-tec bivvi one man but heard bad things about it. This looks the business. For anyone considering a less ambitious project, I've seen Polish lavvu's converted into hot tents here on RUclips. I have a Polish lavvu myself (2 tent halves), but haven't modded it at all. I think canvas is safer, although much heavier. It's impressive how Bex always maintains his narration through cuts, edits. Picks up exactly where he left off lol.

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  6 лет назад

      Thanks for my birthday wishes mate, I too had the Polish lavvu, but failed with the stove jack, it was that lavvu I burned to the ground. (hot tent epic fail) The lavvu is heavier, and takes a long time to dry out, but will smolder very easily, but a great starter tipi tent. "Stove jacks a must." ...Bex
      As a side note I use ex surplus bivi bags only, the Dutch bivi if money is not an issue. Surplus is heavier but well worth the value.

    Happy belated birthday friend. Nice tent. Looks alot like the old Canadian Forces tents but those were very thick canvas. As others have mentioned a nylon tent could be an bit tricky to setup a hot tent safely. Perhaps you might be able to make it work with a fiberglass panel sown into the tent. That is how the old military ones worked. You might be able to DIY that with a welder's blanket.

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  6 лет назад

      Yes mate, think I mentioned a few times in the episode, I will need to fabricate a stove jack. Mine will be a fire blanket (heat treated) and a pannel removed from one of the window meshes. Hoping a spark arrester will help with the tent being nylon. Try watching wawhiker with his nylon tent and stove...All the best Bex

    Cheers for another awesome video. That teepee looks great and will be like an oven with a stove in there! Great find as always mate. Upon your recommendation, I tried the meths burners again. This time I got a Swedish Army mess kit that properly positions the billy above the burner and includes a wind shield. The sooting is still a pain, but it's manageable with a wet wipe and a quick rinse. Magic pulling into a scenic spot and cooking up some lunch - though I get some jealous stares. :) Happy Birthday and best wishes for the hospital visit. ATB

      Thanks for your kind words mate. Can't wait to finish this project off, a DIY wood burner is next on the series I think, Hope youv,e tried the cat wicking stove out on my channel (home made) runs on pink meths with no soot. I think someone gave me a Swedish billy, but then again, looks like the German one, or Polish..I once had to make the park warden a hot brew, to allow me to stay,,,(Good bribary costs nothing). LOL...Bex

  • @calummcneil6006
    @calummcneil6006 Год назад

    Iike the tipi, but it looks a bit flimsy, wouldn't try a wood stove, it would be full of spark holes in no time, during a windy night. However I would use a Swedish army stove inside, the meths type sitting on a good non inflamable surface, would be nice and cosy in no time and no worries. All in all nice tipi and no bugs or midges, take care.

    nice tent,best cut out some of the ground sheet where the stoves going,make a jack from a fire blanket and silicone,make the stove pipe a metre higher than the tent and keep the stove 2 feet from any flammable surface and enjoy

      Excellent intel, much appreciated. I may use a fire blaket on the floor?? The jack will be a fire blanket. The high temp silicon has arrived, so the make will be soon. I have a spare fire blanket in the bug out campervan. Bed space by the door, and stove to the rear. Will try and get to watch your channel as soon as, my stiching is rudimenatry to say the least...Bex

    happy birthday mate, ... looks a big tent ... easy to set up thou, which is good,
    what about putting the stove jack through one of the windows?
    You can get a fireproof wash in solution on ebay ... might be worth treating the whole tent,

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  6 лет назад

      Cheers Neil will look into that. I was thinking of removing one of the windows and vents, and covering that space with a homemade heat treated flue jack. I will practice on my cheapo tipi first me thinks LOL....Bex

    Thanks for the video! Excellent review. Just missing one crucial element...how waterproof is it?

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  5 лет назад +1

      Only had it up in light rain showers, with no problem. The tent only has about a 2000 ml of hyro coating on it, so that would give UK 2 season, spring and summer. Many people these days will coat with fabsil on their tents, to give it a better PU protection. A good 2 or 3 person family tent, or one prepper and a tent stove for winter, watch the tent stove episode using this tent on my channel. Happy days...Bex

      bex bugoutsurvivor thanks for the very detailed answer. I like the price/quality ratio of this tent, especially since it’s a tipi. Will have to treat it a bit more before putting my stove in. Thanks for the great video’s and your feed-baxk!

    Looking at this one for $140USD or a version of the Old Brit Army Teepee in Canvas for around $400USD. I like the idea of thicker material to keep the cold out but like the budget of the MIl-Tec. For other's info Mil-Tec makes their gear in India, China, and the Middle East albeit a German Company. Most of their stuff is Epic and a few of their items disappoint. Just depends what you are looking for.

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  5 лет назад +1

      Know where your coming from with Mil-tek kit, heres hoping this stands the test of time. Carefull with canvas tents, super heavy and bulky, even heavier when wet, and takes three decades to air out. I'm using the teepee in late sping, where winds are lower, and may give it a coating of fabsil too....Bex

    happy birthday my mate,, like the tepee, maybe try carbon felt or a fire blanket to make the fire proof bit for the chimney, real big monkey has had a go at makeing a few hot tents maybe check him out for a few ideas, he's also burnt his tent down lol, be careful with the fire in the tent especially synthetics, my mates legs went on fire when we was sleeping under a bivvy with the fire too close as kids, I've also melted my sleeping bag with hot rocks off the fire and melted my brothers ground sheet with tea lights lol, be careful and best wishes for the hozzie tomorrow

      @bexbugoutsurvivor  6 лет назад +1

      thanks for the Bday wishes mate. I have a couple of ideas on the stove jack, and one is to heat treat a fire blanket, but will look into carbon felt too. all the testing will be done on a cheap tent first, including a couple of really easy makes. Its always great to watch monkey, also have a go at wawhiker, who does loads of hot tenting with his dog cooper. thanks for the hozzie wishes too, check ya latter...Bex

      @@bexbugoutsurvivor What about with tent? Mil-tec it's not a too branded company. Seemingly Mill-tec is a deutschland (german) producer, but the most of products are made in china (probably). Stitches are fine? What about waterproof? And if he can withstand the strong ,,gale''? (I will very grateful If you could been correct mistakes that i made writing this).
