The "Print Dot" in printing terminology is called a hickey. It happens when there is a foreign object on the plate during print production.
No, the print dot is a centering mark to allow for centering the sheet before cutting and gauge how to adjust the machine. A defect is when a foreign object or other incident happens to alter the production of the card.

So much nostalgia, I loved getting the double starter deck boxes. The smell of the card, the cool old art. God I miss that
This blows my mind. Beta just ended when I started playing and I stopped during Ice Age. I took a look at my Nephew's cards recently and was completely lost. The game has changed a lot.
That was a short first foray into MtG! I started at Foreign Black Border in 1994 and stopped at Stronghold in 1998 because I landed my first girlfriend and became otherwise occupied. I came back right after the release of Zendikar Rising in 2020, a set I found really cool (it's the Pathways that blew my mind!), but I quickly got acquainted with WotC's reprint policy and stick with collecting cards from the Reserved List now.
It's easier to get into with magic arena game to understand phases, as rules changed significantly. E.g. Interrupts are also now instants and damage doesn't go on the stack

@@im7254 honestly mtg arena and mtg online are amazing. Sure arena gets hate for being expensive and some stupid rng stuff but it's still really good. Especially for a game that you can play on your phone anywhere
The inner seal looked sketchy to me, I would ask some of the experts on RUclips what they think. Rudy and openboosters would definitely know as well as several others.

AncestralMTG is selling Beta starter decks and they mention that there's a high chance that they contain Alpha rares, so all of these starter decks must be coming from the same box. Surely, Wubby is buying these knowingly.

If you search around for possible repacks that included a sinkhole you might come across stories of a certain well known investor of alpha! Its a known issue.

@@Loki- I can quite literally be sued by the people I would be calling out, so I will decline. However, I can say that that I was an east coast vintage player in the mid 2000s to mid 2010s and watched people learn hard lessons when buying an already 20 year old extremely limited product. There really is only one good man out of NJ, a CARD TITAN, who I would only ever trust with singles, as even singles were majorly compromised all the way back then, let alone sealed product which were already considered completely untrustworthy and depleted. It was believed at the time that there was machinery that was sold from wotc that allowed people to reseal product, do I personally believe that, no. I think it would just be easier to take your time and figure out how to replicate a celephane seal, its probably worth the time considering the payout for a piece of sealed product.
I do appologize for not being able clarify further as to who who would involve themselves in a scam, but I can elaborate on the scam itself. There was a belief that repackers would leave "used to be valuable" cards in their packs. Even sinkhole which was used in a few decks in the 90s lost value in the 2000s, its left in because theres so much nostalgia and used to be good "air" around the card that it would be crazy for that to still be in the pack. But sinkhole is like $150 fresh, whoever sold the repack just made $10k+ who cares.
I dont know if I could get in trouble for posting the guys name but there is a guy on Long Island who currently deals with buying and selling original magic art. He knows the artists personally, and through him I purchased art from Volkan Baga. You can find his group sell page on facebook "____'_ artist signature service and other elves and goblins." personally if I was making huge investments I would consider the dramatically harder to forge one of a kind artwork over, plainly, cardboard.

Depends on when the repack was done the stinkhole was not a very expensive card back in the day. I remember it being a price in a no cost to enter local tournament with I think just 16 players, the stinkhole was just put up by one of the players as it was just about 10 bucks or so (Beta stinkhole). I didn't win got 3rd after loosing with my goblin against a wall deck in the tribes tournament.
I could absolutely see this being a repack, where someone pulled out the lotus and the mox and left you with a back then cheap alpha and crappy beta common as they had some decency...

I just noticed the plains earlier in the pack doesn't either, but every other card in the pack does. Weird.
Thats normal some cards in beta dont have white dots

First impression: I thought the pack looked suspicious before the inner wrapper was taken off. It looked heat sealed. I could be wrong; I’m not an expert. However, I have never heard of a starter deck not having two rares. Also, as to why it may have an alpha rare and a beta sinkhole.. you gotta remember this could be a very old searched deck. At one point crappy alpha rares and beta sinkholes weren’t worth much at all and they would leave stuff like that in. This could have been searched in 2006 for example and been sitting for almost 20 years. I think it was searched 100%. Of course we wall want it to be real but do not put blinders on based on emotion. I hope the experts on this stuff see this. Also, all sides of the deck in the wrapper should have been filmed and I hope they were.
My plastic card buys me cardboard cards instead of food or a mortgage or anything else super unimportant like that

you say that if it was a repack it wouldn't be with Alpha cards but if you had the means to re seal decks, wouldnt it actually be genius to open genuine valuable starter decks and if you dont get any good hits just repack that bitch and get your money back... just saying... if there is no way to verify that the seal is authentic i dont understand how that isnt already commonplace. And this is purely a paranoid speculation but it could very well be why ancestral mtg is willing to give a money back guarantee that they will not be blatantly obvious repacks. But the fact that you have gotten hits out of the stuff they source you like the mox emerald makes that way less likely in my opinion.

Starter decks are mapped. If you bought it loose, Duel Lands will be HIGHLY unlikely.
Didn't show enough of the box or the outer wrapping or the inner wrapping for us to see if its likely to be legit or not.

100% a repack, i would be questioning the company selling these, some of these larger stores will professionally repack these, there is WAY too much money in it for them not too.
Is it possible it was a re-pack? I mean, sure... but, Alpha/Beta (and even Revised) was a much different time for Magic. You'd get crazy crap all the time opening packs.

In all my years of opening big packs (since 1995...) I've never seen this before - 2 Alpha rares, sure, but this screams reseal - yet again so it seems :( Sorry. TBH, I'd stop doing these... the remote possibility that a vintage ABU pack is NOT resealed at this point, is very low. That booster was legit for sure though.
I am new to magic, can anyone explain to me why the lands have different values? And I am not talkin about the art, but why is it that plains and island are worth more than mountains?
