Ya know why this sucks, 30th Anniversary bulls are using Wubby's audience to try and move their bags. Most hated product is an understatement. This product undermines the integrity of the game and 99% of players want nothing to do with it. It sits like a toxic asset in binders. RIP
Unless he bought it and forgot, dude just sent it to him and took the full loss on it. I highly doubt anyone who likes and is knowledgeable enough about Magic to spend this much on magic proxies doesn’t already hate this product with a burning passion, nor would this video, where wubby also expressed his disdain for it, sway them to suddenly buy some. I think it’s neat the dude instead of trying to scrape back Pennys on the dollar for it took the L and let wubby open it and let us watch it.

Until today, I thought the Magic 30 product was like a set of reprinted cards for $1000. I didn't realize it was 4 shitty booster packs you could potentially pull shitty non-legal repros from. They should have at least given a chance to pull OG power 9 from it or something.
You can pull power 9 from it. They just can't be played anywhere but most hate it since this is what they did for the anniversary of magic and the price was so high most will never be able to purchase it.

30th anniversary would have been an absolute grand slam if they just made them like normal booster packs that you could draft and have an event with at your home or local game store. Hell, I haven't played paper magic in like 10 years almost and I would have found an event to go to. I started playing MTG in 1996 and this would have been a huge nostalgia trip for me and my friends.

Two very rough product openings. Opening sealed is wild, though amazing when it pans out. The cost of 30th boxes was crazy, especially as you could end up with cards like in this box. This video is a reminder that bad beats can happen with all sealed openings. I agree was cool to see the old set re-printed in modern HD. 1993 still the classic.

30th Anniversary was the biggest fumble Magic has ever experienced. I haven't played Magic in two plus decades, but I was excited at the idea of 30th. My friends and I talked about buying some packs, drafting them, bringing us back to our high school days... then the price was revealed.
Imagine... IMAGINE if WotC released this at a much cheaper price and encourage people to draft them. Like little tournaments with only 1993 cards to celebrate Magic's 30th birthday instead of releasing absolute fucking shit proxies for a 1000 bucks. I hope WotC implodes

If I wanted a lotus, I’d get a proxy with better art. This “product” is a spit in the face to all of Magic’s history and its community. That’s why it was only available for sale for 40 minutes and Wizards took it down. It sold miserably in that time, and it’s not hard to see why.

So how does he justify someone spending 600 dollars on these cards?
He doesn't need to. They go in with the knowledge that they likely won't recoup their money, but throw down for the ~7% chance of getting selected to receive the rare, which could still not recoup their losses. Cracking Beta will never be a winning proposition financially, so Wubby is essentially crowdfunding the opening of these packs for posterity.
the anniversary box couldve been for so many more people, if they didn't have that price tag. i mean they print their first official proxies (I count gold borders as collectors edition) and price them at non-proxy value. which completely goes against the reason to get proxies.
imagine this 4-box was priced at 200$ or even 40$
i don't think the price of the alphas/betas... wouldve tanked (maybe slightly decreased or stagnated) because people who actually buy the original one, would either want the originals or both (original AND proxy), not either. and people who cant afford original cards have no impact on their pricing.

Anytime I see this set I remember getting banned in WOTC twitch chat for arguing with a guy that was saying WOTC should do a charity/fundraiser secret lair for a hall of famer that has cancer. I was arguing that thats one of the worst things ever to ask for since Secret Lair is a spit in the face of their players and let scalpers ruin it. After a couple times trying to get my point across I got banned from their twitch chat lmao.

If the whole set was retro border *and* inked heavy like actual beta, there's a brief period of time when I was insane enough I'd have dropped a grand if it was a whole booster box. Finding out it was 4 packs and only like 8 of those were anywhere close to the actual nostalgia look? Fuuuuuuu no. Everything about that release was trash and I'm glad the market spoke on that and barely any sold.

Honestly the whole gimmick would’ve sold out if they had just made them legal to play, but since they didn’t make them legal to play, each card is worth whatever a proxy from a Joe Schmo sells on eBay. Not rocket science.

For your 4 packs, you got 12 basic lands, and multiple duplicates of cards so you really only got like 40 cards in total.

I have a sneaking suspicion the Pokemon company is going to this exact thing on their 30th anniversary in 2026.
magic 30 should have been a $60 draft box of proxied beta cards you could play with friends to experience what magic was like in its early years. That would be a proper celebration of its legacy, but instead its this abomination of a product people think have value when it's easily going to be one of the first products to sink in price when the game's popularity starts fading.
