Luckily I'm a hoarder and kept my original Brother black empty cartridge. Thank you, the solution worked for me.

Successfully refilled and replaced my first laser cartridge today on a Brother MFC-L2750DW thanks mostly to your related videos. I really appreciate your help, thanks.

Recently, I ran across another situation where the Toner Cartridge isn't recognized. The Brother printer (HL-L3290CDW), will not necessarily recognize the cartridge was replaced. The cartridge which was previously in it was a standard capacity, but the replacement was high capacity. Here's what happened: I ran out of Black Toner Cartridge. Removed it and inserted the High Capacity One. That's when I received the cryptic Error Message stating that no Toner Cartridge was in it. There was no indication as to which one was missing. I brought up the Printer Toner Reset display by pressing the Clear and Stop Buttons at the same time and then the Clear Button. Pressing the Clear Button the second time is what brings up the display. I initially reset the High Capacity indicator for Black. That didn't work. I then reset the Standard Capacity indicator and that worked.

    Thanks, great infos as always!
By the way, just a little piece of additional info maybe:
If you have a newer Brother laser/LED printer that uses toner cartridges with chips and you get the error message "No Toner. Open the Top Cover, then install Toner Cartridge" the source of this problem might be a missing or broken chip. I checked this behaviour by putting some tape over a chip of one of the TN-243/247 cartridges of my Brother HL-L3210CW and got the aforementioned error message.
The printer also didn't tell me which one of the four colour cartridges (C/M/Y/K) was the source of the "No Toner" error message, so just by looking at the printer alone, it would've been hard to know which one of the four chips was malfunctioning (well, covered with a bit of tape in my case for this test).
Fortunately you can use the "Brother Status Monitor" software from the "Brother Utilities" on your PC to determine which toner cartridge is the source of the "No Toner. Open the Top Cover, then install Toner Cartridge" error message. It actually tells you which of the four colours is the problem.

      @roehmg 3 года назад +3

@@zinoscost5731 no problems, but you have to swap the chip from the brother cartridge to the replacement. Process takes about 20 seconds pee cartridge. It's just unscrewing the side piece with chip and putting on replacement

@@zinoscost5731 As someone who doesn't print a lot I haven't even used up the starter toners after 1.5 years yet, but so far I'm very happy with the printer. My only regret so far is not having chosen the version with a duplex unit (It did cost only a couple of bucks more, and without it I have to turn the stacks of paper by hand and put them in the paper tray again).
I think Brother laser/LED printers are quite robust machines and as far as I've heard they take 3rd party toners without complaints. And even if a 3rd party toner has quality problems, it usually won't hurt the printer (unless the cartridge loses toner, so you have to clean out lots of dust), you can just replace the bad toner cartridge with a new one and should be fine mostly.
However: Toner cartridges are quite complex little things, it's not only a box with powder inside. There are quite a few things on very cheap toner cartridges that might go wrong and might impact the print quality. Or they might work at first, but the print quality might degrade after printing only 50% of the expected pages.
There are better 3rd party cartridges, but they are also more expensive.
Genuine toner cartridges generally work best and will give you the least amount of trouble, I think - not only in Brother models, but all colour laser printers.
I would advise to have a look first at your expected print volume per month. If you print a lot and regularly, then you might wanna buy an inkjet printer. Maybe even an inkjet with a continuous ink system, like an Epson Ecotank or whatever the other brands call theirs. Reason being: Cheap laser/LED printers are usually way more expensive in the costs per page. (Also: inkjets have better photo print quality on special papers. But ink won't hold up to sunlight or water as well as toner.)
As someone who doesn't print much, I'm happy with this cheap LED printer though. I got fed up of inkjet cartridges drying out, clogged print heads, them using a ton of ink on print head cleaning cycles etc. A laser/LED printer nearly always just works and doesn't care for long pauses between print jobs (however I try to turn it on once every one or two months at least, so that the fuser unit rollers don't get flat on one side, like car tires that are never moved).
The costs per page are a little bit higher, but I don't care since I print so little... with an inkjet printer, most of the ink would go unused in print head cleaning cycles for me.
As I said, I would take a look at your expected print volume first. And I would decide what printer to buy based on the prices of genuine toner or ink cartridges.
If 3rd party toner cartridges or ink cartridges work for you: so the better, you can save a few bucks then, compared to genuine carts.
But you might also try 3rd party toner cartridges at first, might find that they are more trouble than they're worth to you, and then you might switch to genuine cartridges later on anyway.
Or you might find a 3rd party toner brand that you're happy with, that give you a good compromise between print quality and savings.
I can't comment on good quality 3rd party toner brands since I haven't tried any so far. All I'm saying is: I would advise to decide on which printer to buy based on the prices of genuine toner/ink cartridges. The availability of cheap 3rd party carts is a plus in my book, and something that you might give a try. But it might happen that you're not satisfied with the print quality/reach of 3rd party carts, and wanna switch back to genuine carts later.

I have an MFC8850CDW that gives this error intermittently. It will print perfectly, and then it will give this error, and when it gives the error, it also prints with all of the colors being a messy background behind the text. Then if I take the drum out and reseat it, the next printing will print perfectly again for a few pages. I just replaced all of the toners. Any ideas? Gratzie mille!

@@viandant5 I cleaned all of the rollers on the drum unit, and cleaned the surface of the transfer roller, but that didn't change the behavior at all. Here's the kicker that I realized yesterday. We can print images and they print perfectly, but if we print text, it gets sloppy toner color patterns behind the text. Those patterns are the same each time I print a single page of text. At the end of printing one text based print job, it also gives the toner not detected error. Every time I do the test print on the printer, it still prints beautifully.
