I'm going with Hoss as well. The character played by Dan Blocker was a great character! He was so physically strong but could be very smart and kind. I know your bull can't be "kind", but the mere fact he will will approach you and is interested in what you're doing sounds like he's got a good brain!! Keep these great videos coming Dusty, you are so interesting to listen to and to watch!!

HOSS is a perfect name for a big bison bull! And Little Joe and Adam too! Even Bonanza would be a good name . Oh I loved the Bonanza tv series and the adventures of the family on the Ponderosa Ranch. In the early 70’s Our famiy took a day trip to South Lake Tahoe and planned a visit to the original set of the Bonanza ranch which had been opened for tourists. We were disappointed to find it closed that day. Your Ponderosa tree is lovely and I hope you will plant several more on the Cross Timber Ponderosa Bison Ranch. I would love to see your herd running to the strains of the Bonanza intro music.🌲🦬🌲.

Name suggestion for the first bull calf: "Adam" was the first son on the Ponderosa. There were 3 sons - Adam (Pernell Roberts), Hoss (my favorite. He was big, easy going, & a big eater. He was played by Dan Blocker) & Little Joe layed by Michael Landon.) Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think "Hoss" might suit the calf.

Hi Dusty from the coooold northeast of Montana Five Diamonds Bison Ranch. I have been watching you for some time and am proud of what you are doing for the Bison industry. We have used tubs in the past and find that once the bison eye is below the top of the tub they will abandon the tub. So show how far down they get before quitting. Also I have on my bucket list to go to the Custer roundup but there is always some thing that prevents it. We have used breeder bulls from Custer State Park for years. Thanks for your videos our batteries shut down when it's -25 and blowing.

I too have noticed that Dusty is always cautious and practices what he teaches about situational awareness.around bison. I wondered why he jumped into the truck when they all seemed so friendly? Maybe it was because they were expecting and wanting treats and not getting any and someone might try to search his pockets next?

Hey, it works, gets the job done and that's all that matters- doesn't have to be beautiful, right? In this video, you showed a lot of your new ranch, the Ponderosa (by the way, you certainly showed your youth by not knowing about Bonanza and the Ponderosa!! that was in the good ol' days😃). You certainly have a lot of land now. Lucky, hardworking man and it's paying off. Thx for the video. Take care. Oh! Take your time on naming the new bull. Ahh..."Pondis" -not sure how well they would grow where you are. I'm in Oregon, lots of them here. They grow very quickly and are able to bust through concrete. Do not plant them close to your house. If the tree isn't doing well or you have a lightning strike, they can be dangerous. Best not to plant them too close to one another or with other trees.

The Ponderosa! You already have Big Joe (who was the youngest brother), so that bull needs to be named HOSS! He was the middle brother, and very likeable! Keep up the great content Dusty! I love watching your videos about OK and your Bison herd. 👍

Well, Big Joe's first red dog at the new place has to be named Little Joe. Ya need a Hoss, an Adam, a "Pa", and, a "Hop Sing" too. Thanks for the visit of "the kids" at the original place too.
Dusty, we need an update on how Popcorn's mom is coming along. Are they two of them bouncing back to health?

I love Hoss too Dusty! Dan Blocker that played Hoss Cartwright was a mountain of a man. He was 6’4” and 300lbs. He was a Texan born in DeKalb, Tx in Bowie County and raised from age 6 in O’Donnell, Tx just south of Lubbock when his Dad opened a store. If you were to watch every episode of Bonanza you’d be in front of the tv for months!!! Lol

I know most people on here are naming the new bisons . But I would like to offer a piece of advice please . I know you are really busy at the new ranch but you need to take time to stop and smell the roses !!! By this I mean you have so close to your old bison and I think they are missing some of that one on one time w you !!! So please go get some cubes and hand feed them and get that feeling all over again !!! You are awesome !!! We love watching your channel because of the love that shows which you have with your bison your family and your work !!! 🌹🌹 💜🌹🌹🙏👍

Dusty - do we re-name you to Hoss or Little Joe? Always need to have a bag of cubs with you, especially if you are going to see Dunbar and Elenore. But it applies to Big Joe and that herd too. Best two pine trees to grow are the Blue Spruce and Douglas Fir, great for creating lumbar and firewood. I might consider Larch or Red Fir another great wood for lumbar and firewood, better than any pine specie. Other good wood trees are Birch around water and the king of firewood is Tamarack. If your looking for a large shade tree - I like the Willow.
Don't forget to play the Ponderosa theme song!! I visited the Ponderosa Ranch in Nevada as a kid, it was remarkable place, still one of my favorite shows. I think Bill Parnell (eldest son) is the only cast member still alive.

I'm sorry, but from a timber family in the Cascade Mts, A Blue Spruce is a Spruce & a Douglas Fir is a fir. You can't plant Fir & Spruce trees & call them Ponderosa!
It's a great name & great trees, but please don't call
Blue Spruce & Douglas Fir Ponderosa Pine.
It's like calling my Grandma Apache when she's a Cherokee. Thank you, Patty

But Daniel at AFH already named his miniature bull Little Joe. And two joes would be too confusing. I had the biggest frush on Adam, but it doesn't really work for a Bison name. Hoss would probably be best for a Ponderosa name, or Ben or Cartwright

Pondarisa pine is a real pine tree in Navada where Bonanza was filmed. Up by Lake Taho.
Pine trees and alk trees for that matter will help build the underground water shed on your land. Also, you may want to plant some texas sage. It is drought tolerant and will also help your ground water and build your eco system on your ranch. Buffalo have always been builders of the natural prairie grasses and eco systems.
Realizing your business is raising buffalo, but they are naturally prarie grass eaters.

Your love or Bison as America’s animals of history, think about that but your love is commendable. If we ever changed America’s Sign of Freedom it might be the Bison! They’ve endured quite a bit in their history! Nice Dusty! Continued success!

The Ponderosa is such an old show, but it was definitely a family favorite 🤩! Let us know when you start watching. My husband has an old Kabota. I can’t imagine how many hours it has on it. It’s a staple on our farm. Nice to see some of the original characters 🤗! How is the cow doing, that was so terribly thin, her calf as well.
