  • James Clear’s book Atomic Habits is a bestseller for good reason. Let’s apply his framework in our task manager to build better habits. (Here I demonstrate with OmniFocus, but the principle works with any task manager.)

Great video. It’s the establishing of habits that is the hardest thing. I taught parenting classes for years, and establishing habits to get to the “invisible” stage is crucial. Mornings are a particular parental bugbear, and our clarion cries were: “The morning begins the night before, and evenings begin in the morning,” and “The mornings need to be decision-free,” and “How will you remember to remember?” So, the night before: lunches made, school clothes out (including socks), parent-permission slips signed, breakfast decision made, and discussion about exactly when everybody would be out of the house. No decisions in the morning (“Where are my soccer socks?”). And establishing the “how will you remember to remember” … this is where OmniFocus repeats help, until it all becomes second nature. (We used reminders taped to doors, fridges and bathroom mirrors, back the day … :o) Thanks again.
